I live alone, so I'm doing my remodel on my own, and always second-guessing myself long before even spending a penny. Your videos, your teamwork, and your willingness to make mistakes (and hide them!) is fantastically inspiring and confidence-building.
It directly reminds me of a memory from when I was a teenager, the lesson from which I didn't recall until seeing your videos. I was in high school, working as a busboy at a diner, and I was asked to help out on the grill during the 2AM drunk rush and the 8AM breakfast rush. They wanted me making fried eggs and omelettes. Now, our cook could flip eggs and omelettes perfect every time, tossing them high in the air just for show, never using a spatula. I said I didn't know how to flip anything in a pan. The cook took out a flat of eggs and just told me to go for it. I worried about the waste, and he said it would be the best buck ever spent, even if all the eggs were ruined, so long as I learned how to flip fast and easy. And it worked! I was soon able to handle a dozen pans on the grill, each with a different egg or omelette order.
50 years later, and I still love flipping omlettes. Time to flip some kitchen cabinets, no?
Being from the South, I just adore how you are raising your daughter to be such a wonderful southern lady. Fishing and all. Folks in cities just do not understand the wonderful world of living in the Country for kids. I love this channel and I love you guys. Jim, I hope you both know how much of an out of the park homerun you've made with your lives!!
Yeah we do...we love the outdoors too...I was raised in a northern small town but not country at all and we LOVED hiking, exploring, my boys fished a LOT with my stepdad. Being outdoorsy is a state of mind not geographical location :) I agree these folks are raising their daughter correctly, but remember, Lydia is from the North 😊
If you plan on more woodworking in the future I would strongly suggest getting comfortable with a table saw. A good one, with a good blade. It's the absolute most versatile tool you can own, with countess jigs that can be made for it. If i were only allowed one single power tool for my shop, it would be a table saw.
Thanks Miss Eva, we appreciate you helping our Cajun Family out... Looking good you two....Thanks for sharing
Thank you!!!!
Great video Jim and Lydia
Your cabinets are looking awesome! You guys do such a great job and you look like you are having fun every time that you work on a project together. Keep it up! You are a pleasure to watch!
Thank you so much!
I totally agree with the Warbird. How wonderful he has a partner that is helpful and so interested in the project. Keep up the good work. I love the dry pour concept by the way. Will be pouring a 20 X 20 work slab soon, in sections. Did a 5 X 12 and it turned out great. I am fairly experienced with redimix. After I skreet I hit it with a flat 14" metal trowel, then let the paint roller work its magic.
Y'all's cabinets are great. I'd use them in my home for sure. I don't think pre-made, store bought come close to what you all did.
I will be the first to admit that I am not a "finish carpenter", so ya'll have totally blown me away with the job you are doing on these cabinets. They look great!!! Also, not being a good "finish carpenter" means that I know the secret to "carpenter mistakes". Trim and molding hide a lot of screw-ups! 😁
Thank goodness for trim right?!?! Thank you for the nice compliment!
"Went in the woods and made some cookies" just about made me spit out my drink! 🤣
😂😂
Everything is coming along and the best way is at your own pace. That Cypress wood is going to look great! Being a wood working amateur hobbyist I would love me some Cypress wood. I also just purchase a mug! Jim, ya done good! A new saw and an oven! Lydia is happy, you are happy and that makes us happy!
Thank you Harold!!❤️
We will be sending it to you asap!!😁
Dado joint is what you cut inside the cabinet … keep up the good work 🇺🇸👊🏼🔨🪚👊🏼🇺🇸
Ya'all should grab the entire tree...could use it for so much or even sell portions of it to museums and what not. Worth salvaging the whole tree. Id kill to be able to have something like that in my grasp ;)
Thanks Miss Eva for helping them out.❤️
😊
Cabinets look great Jim and Lydia
Just love the meticulous approach to everything you two do - makes for a brilliant result. And thank you for taking the time and trouble to upload the videos, they make for great viewing!
Thank you so much Dave!
Great video!! look forward to Lydia cooking in the new oven!!
Thank you!
So that Cyprus was probably cut down in 1780! And you guys are so privileged to have such a piece of history.😽
Oh wow. Looks great! Thank for another great video guys!!!!
Thank you Terence!
Oven Surprise!!!
I was half expecting there to be a miter saw in the oven. Conns does crazy deals like that sometimes....
Hahahaha
Lol! That would have been incredible! 😂
I laff every time y’all say hootis- I think that’s a new word for me! And using the same tape measure - great tip
Lol! Love it!!
It’s so nice to find an employee that really cares, thanx Ms. Eva.
You both did a great job on the cabinet. Love the ovens 🥰.
Good job again mr jim n Lydia
Thank you Bobby!
Thank you so much!
20 years ago we (husband & I) built our Fridge & Double Wall Ovens into cabinets, Looks Wonderful. I did say this was 20 years ago. Over the years they (manufactures) CHANGE the Dimensions of the appliances. My Jenn-Air wall ovens had to be repaired (had to send the part to Jenn-Air to fix) (our government says they only have to have parts up to 7 years) Next thing, my Fridge quit. The new ones are taller sometimes wider. I was lucky to find a cabinet builder to shave off the sides & top so a new Fridge could go in. He did such a great job you would never know anything was different. So remember built-ins look great but think about years later. In the Fridge case we have a cabinet on top so we could shave just enough off to make a new one fit. Make your spacing boards between the fridge & upper cabinet wide for adjustment later. Just some information to share.
Great information! Thanks Connie!
@@CajunCountryLivin I learned the hard way-made it work this time but 20 more years from now ????
Thanks miss Eva for helping!!!
Ms Eva your the best… thank you for helping out!
Have a great day guys. See ya on the next one
What a Bunch of smilers ! You all have Million dollar smiles ,even You Little Girl, Just Love your channel and always look forward to your next offering . Greetings from The Republic of Ireland
Thank you so much!
@@CajunCountryLivin Can I ask you guys, please, what is the space between the back of the oven and back wall? Did you find it in the installation instructions?
Thank you!
I am surprised the Cyprus trees that are historical treasure are not protected and have to be left laying. I am glad they aren't because now hundreds of thousands of us get to see and appreciate the beauty.
It is a pretty Blue on the inside though. I really appreciate how smoothless your videos have become. The integrations of the different styles and much more subtle music throughout really ties it all together. And great advice on the scrap pile, I have done that once, but I should check it more often. - Cheers
Thank you Mikey. We really appreciate hearing that. 🥰
Haha is Jim in Gus’s dog box for the Lydia impersonation 😅😂 High Five Jim 😊 ‘sure’ you needed a new tool Jim 😂❤ Wow that tree is just as old as Jim 😮 Cabinet looks good, as you say no one will know about the stuff ups, only you know 😊 Great looking oven. Until the next video❤❤
Awesome guys!
That blue inside the oven in dope LOL!
Yes that is LG very pretty.. 😊♥️🎈🌸👏
Thanks y’all!
Nice units. Pretty well all LG I think are blue inside. I have never seen it till my sister got a new oven. Pretty cool I thought. 😊🇨🇦👍
It was so odd to us!
@@CajunCountryLivin Lol, 😄
Good work you two! Very nice oven combo, good job Jim! Great job Lydia with your cypress ring hootis! Thanks for the scrap lumber tip. So where's the new miter saw?
Thank you Jack! The saw is still in the box…. I think Jim is afraid to get it dirty😂
for that kitchen wall, where its not important to have finished, i would still recommend putting a coat of primer on there to protect the drywall from potential moisture
just cuz moisture can get in the weirdest spots
That’s a good point!
You guys are amazing. You did a great job. It goes to show what can be done when you get rid of fear.
Thank you Richard!
Cabinet looks great with the oven. Looks like Jim survives to build another hootis. Thanks for sharing your journey
Thank you for watching Gary!
You guys are off the charts. People spend thousands of dollars on cabinets and it's just a box with either drawers or doors :-) I love it that you just go for it and don't worry about making mistakes, because no matter what, they are bound to happen. As always, awesome job!
Great work 👍 love the blue. Personally I would not have put the fridge so close to your oven/microwave due to all door openings, however your using the space. Look forward to the next video 😊
Thank you!
Jim you a correct you can't win now matter what you do! They it's ok r it's fine 😂😂 but you got lucky and knocked it out of the park 😂😂! We will catch yall on Sunday and another thing my lil one is graduating 🎓 on Saturday wish us lucky!!
Thank you Cedric! And CONGRATULATIONS to your daughter! See you Sunday!😊😊
Just built a similar cab…, I pt a hole into the top cupboard to feed the wire through to a power box in there, made it easier to wire it in.
But just found your channel.., awesome work
Thank you!
Thank you Miss Eva for helping !!!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless you
😊😊
Ya'll are too cute and your baby girl is precious.
103 years old 😊 and Thanks Eva for helping out with the oven, your the best!
Wow I was close, only 140 years off 😂 I think I’ll stay away from Vegas for now 🙃
Well done Miss Eva. Good job Captain Croc. 🇦🇺👍❤️🦋🦋
Thank you!
I think the blue is awesome! A small blue accent, vase, small potted plant on the counter next it would be perfect!!! Thank ya Mrs. Eva!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Oh My Gosh... I had forgotten about all the tape measure shenanigans.. 😂😂😂 That was the best! I was off by exactly 100 on the rings (that was counted) not too bad of a guess. Hey, I noticed a lot of echo while you were in the house... I wonder if some alligator print wall paper could help with that?? Would you happen to know where some would be?? (giggle giggle) Yall thought we forgot about that wall paper, huh?? NEVER!! That oven is awesome!! I like the blue... Great job, Capt. Crocs!!! Home run for sure!!... Have a great rest of the week yall.. back to work I go.
BODIEEEEEEEE!!!! How’s it going friend? Lydia keeps saying that we have the echo in the house because we need more furniture 😂 Oh well, guess we are gonna have to make another trip to tha swamp😁 Don’t you worry, the gator wall paper is coming and we also have a really REALLY cool alligator feature that will be making a grand appearance relatively soon 😁 See ya Sunday!
Thanks miss Eva for the help good video good to see y'all
Y’all are doing darn good carpentry. Imagine the money your saving and it’s looking very good. Would like to say I’m impressed, but been watching from the start and you two just don’t make boo boo’s. Very well done. Minor hidden saw blade curve and all. 🤣
Thank you very much! Love it when we can hide them and not have to redo😂
It does looks beautiful, ❤
Thank you!
Oh I so love every episode of this channel... and that adorable little girl is icing on the cake.
Thank you very much!
Thanks, Miss Eva! Hope you get a raise!!
I am a new subscriber, had to go back to the beginning and watch all your videos to get caught up. U2 are absolutely cute together. Keep up the good work I’m enjoying your videos.
Thank you so much Randy!
Go to the store to buy a wall oven come out with a miter saw! My kind of MAN!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes I feel like a squirrel crossing the road with my decision making skills😂
Those Kreg pocket hole jigs are the 🐝’s 🍯!!!
Yesss!!!
Great Job. The Blue inside the oven is fairly common these days by the way!
You guys are killing it, woohoo, 150K, thats 50K in 6 weeks, unbelievable y'all.
Thank you James!
Looking great! Rings on trees are rarely that tight and close together these days… check out the end of a 2x4 next time you see one. Humans have altered trees to grow much faster thus having wider spread rings! I thought that was a interesting little tidbit!
I love the wall oven microwave combo!!!! Great job, Jim! So much better than having a microwave above the stove, on the counter… or in our case… in the basement!
It’s all coming together and looking awesome! 🎉
Very interesting indeed yall! Thank you I think we are going to be very happy with it😁
I found this channel 2 days ago, and I've already binged every single one of y'all's videos. And I want more!!!! Y'all are awesome! It's truly inspiring to watch y'all. How much you get done on your own.
And how creative y'all are with your problem solving, hootis 🎩 off to y'all! 😁
Awesome!!
I've seen Electrolux ovens in that blue colour. Kind of freak me out at first, then I really liked it lol. Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada
That color is definitely going to take some time to get use to! Thank you for watching!
You were lucky to have Miss Eva!! I would have wanted to look myself.
Good job. I hope things change for the better.
Nice combo oven! great job ya'll
you guys are good people you make me happy to watch you work i hope your house stays a happy welcomeing house cheers from australia
I think there were 280 rings on the cypress tree. Miss Eva, thank you for helping Jim find the perfect wall oven!
Love the bright blue inside the oven!
Thank you!
When routing the dadoes, may I suggest that you cut them in incremental depths instead of the full depth. There are also some cool jigs to permit easy cutting of dado widths to account for the variable widths of today's plywood.
Lookiing at it, I say 160 years!
😁😊
I love it! And it is a beautiful treasure.
Good job guys, cool that you show the mistakes.
Thank you Bruce!
How cool...so much history for this tree ❤ and a marking point for you as well 😊 and loved your kitchen...it is going to be fantastically enjoyable 🎉
Thank you very much!!!!
I personally LOVE the blue interior of the oven.
😊😁
Thanks Ms. Eva!
243 rings and that number we know is understated somewhat because you could not count them all due to the damage in the center. In addition, the tree was cut and in water for an unknowable number of years. So that tree began in the 1770s just from what is countable! My goodness.
Wow Lydia that's a old tree Cookie, boy was i off on the count. LOL Glad you waited for Jim to help you move that. Jim you did good on choice of oven!! Cabinet for that looks good, ooppss on the little cut you did, but like y'all said you won't be able to see it. 😁 Looking forward to seeing the finished construction of it on the next video. 😍 Okay Cajun Family, yall have a wonderful day rest of your week Definitely been some hot days lately y'all keep COOL!! 😊
Thank you Thomas! You stay cool over there too and we’ll see you Sunday!😊
Miss Eva certainly helped Jim out, I wouldn’t trust my husband to buy an oven 😅 cabinet looks fab you two do a great job 😊 🇬🇧
Thank you Jane!
Ventilation to vacate that heat around the ovens. Just a thought but it'll help the lifespan of those expensive ovens. Nice work on the cabinet structures with the payoff from the facing and wood solids.
They vent through the front and are designed to be installed tight like that.
Thank you for the tip!
Well it looks like Jim didn't get too beat up for buying the new saw.
She spared me Mr. Bill!
What an excellent cabinet maker you are Jim - good job - have a great week - love ya all more !!
Thank you Lorina!
I love that color blue I just got done watching your video that is a beautiful blue
Thanks Joe!
@@CajunCountryLivin yer welcome hows that capet cleaner thinging
Another great video and bravo for the progress guys and happy mother’s day even if it is little late 🌹🙏
Thank you!
Goes for stove buys a saw. Hell yeah.
Great job guys and thanks miss Eva.
The precision is astounding. I absolutely love it. I’ve learned that a worthy investment warrants excellence. Kudos to you both! 💙❤️❤️
Thank you Alvin!
great job looking good
Thank you!
I found your channel and immediately began binge watching!
Now...I wait w/baited breath for each episode! (One of my favs was how you conquered weatherproofing your 4-wheeler, Gator, or whatever you call it!)
Thanks for including all of us on your Cajun Country journey!♥️
We are very happy that you are enjoying our channel! Thank you so much for watching!
We just got my mom a new oven for Mother's Day. Apparently, they add a polymer to the paint to add strength, etc.. That polymer turns the paint blue. Kind of a nice side effect if you ask me, :)
Very interesting!!
Good job guys! Cheers from South Africa.
I like the blue, it's unique! Well done on the cabinet.
Thank you!
You really should try to fit in a 900mm oven with a 900mm 5 ring cooktop, they look the best and give you the room that you need, to cook either small or large meals, if you have to compromise get the Double 600mm ovens, that gives you the best if you are working with a tight area, lol obviously I wrote my comment before the ending, you got the same style oven as I do, mine is 600mmx2.
Great minds think alike James😁
Picking up new how-to ideas everytime I watch. Loving this channel.
That one inch is good, you need it for the refrigerator to be able to ventilate.
😊
Your Kitchen is coming together , can't wait to see some of those Cajun cooking videos ❤❤
Thank you!
Love the oven…
Thank you Denise!
I wasn't far off on the Rings Yeah And The Walk Oven Looks Great Have A Blessed Week Much Love From Portland Indiana
It’s crazy how old this thing is! I wish we knew exactly when it’s was cut, that would be really neat! We hope that you have a great week too Daniel!
Looks great!
I really like both your personalities.
I’ll never build my own house, but it sure is fun watching you both do yours.
When my Son and DIL got their new stove last year it is blue, my son said it is to enhance the look of the food that is in the oven.
Great way to look at it!
Maybe you already got this but you should be cutting an access opening near the wall in the cabinet between the fridge and the oven for plugging/unplugging the oven.
Cabinets look great and the stainless steel will make your kitchen look amazing!
Awesome job on the cabinets again. The oven looks great.
Thank you Melissa!
