As with a Gate the diagonal bracing Always ascends Upward for constant lifting.
As for Glue, yes from the very start.
A small bottom ball-bearing wheel would assist wonders with load swing.
      Beautiful job

If you were a little girl. ‘When’ implies this actually happened in the past
Also, using when and wouldn’t together makes no sense here. When and wasn’t go together in this case.
The fact people get super basic grammar wrong is a sign of a collapsing society.

A couple of 4x2s on hinges mounted on the opposite wall with rubber stoppers on the end, one level with the base and the other with the top would make the bookcase seem solid from the other side when engaged would effectively make it just that. Relying on deception rather than full security, but should keep the kids safe from an intruder for a time should such a need arise.👍

My dad used to tell me “it’s not the mistakes you make that define you it’s the way you fix your mistakes that define you !” Another of his saying was “if a job is worth doing it’s worth doing well” , alway do it to the best of your ability also “there is no such word as can’t” He died when I was 15 after 10 years of illness but I’m 53 now and I still abide by his advice in everything I do !
The only saying I made up is never moan about anything you’re not willing to change !
Ps I can do everything from carpentry to electrics plumbing plastering bricklaying electronics if it’s possible to do it I will have a go and if I mess it up I will find a way to make it perfect !

I've been woodworking since 7th grade... so 50+ years. I built my own secret 'bookshelf' door into a small attic space for storage, so I know how much work goes into these projects, especially when you're retrofitting into an existing structure. In my case, I had to work with structural studs spaced 24" on centers, so I used hidden zero-clearance hinges to maximize the width when open. All that to say - you really did a VERY nice job with your build. I wish I had an area in the house to do something cool like you did sectioning off the media room area. It really turned out quite well. Looks beautiful finished. Congrats. I hope your wife will now allow you to do more fun stuff...

It's nice, well done. My house came with a hidden bookshelf door and it was the feature my wife liked the most.

You reminded me of the way my dad always had some kind of project going on around the house including the house! He remodeled the existing house and then built on to it and doubled the size of the house. Thanks for those memories. You made a most excellent hidden door and room!

Thanks so much for showing the work in this. I looked at the Murphy doors online, and they are a little pricey. I'm a novice wood worker and was initially a little intimidated by the idea of doing it myself, but this video gave me the confidence that I can.

Very well done! I like that you showed your mistakes. I'm glad I'm not the only one who will put a sander in a vise. I want to do something like this someday, but they need to be pretty custom, and I would need mine to swing out. Not to mention, these projects can be difficult when you have toddlers running around and you're an amateur figuring things out as you go.
