Not even gonna lie, this was the most brilliant thing I’ve seen on the internet in a while.
@@Jaycomma if you’re selling a pair of shoes the person buying them pays the shipping, genius.
Don't know if it's just me, but I figured this out when I was 9 and, on my own, had to ship a box of shoes back in the mail. I find this is common sense, not a "hack".
@@Jaycomma this video shows how to reconfigure a (free) shipping box so you can fit shoes in it. Effectively eliminating the cost of buying a box. The cost of the actual shipping is covered by the buyer. What exactly is the disconnect here?
@@j0p117 I think the other dudes a derp
USPS has priority boxes that fit shoes though... And you still pay based on weight. There's no need for this at all.
Postal clerk here. Just make sure the box says "mailing box" on it rather than "flat rate box" if you want the postage to be based on weight, size and distance (usually cheaper if it's not that heavy and you're not sending it far away). Priority Flat Rate boxes have a set price tag, but if they are modified, then they have to go by weight, size and distance, which can be more expensive if you're sending the item far away. Flat rates are really great for heavier items traveling some distance, but "mailing boxes" like we have here are usually the best and cheapest option for something like a pair of shoes.
Thank you for the tips!
So does this work like you see in the video?
I absolutely LOL on your "Postal Clerk here" part. Also thanks, your comment was very informative.✌️
I love the USPS
So how much is the shipping cost using the mailing box?
I thought the reason these boxes were cost effective was because their dimensions were consistent so they all stack nicely together in transport.
they're charging more than just the box she is misleading for views lol
@@aspirindamage5152 bro if your selling something online such as shoes you don’t pay for shipping the person that buys it does
@@josephhutchins8 you've never sold shit online and if you have its been like 3 times lol. because in a perfect world, yes. the buyer would cover every single cent of the shipping. in the PERFECT world, the shipping calculators will never be off and you will ALWAYS have the perfect box. don't try and tell me obvious shit, I know how this shit works, and I know that you cannot guarantee ANYTHING with either usps or ups. they're both a pain in the ass.
@@lilyflare2 how often do you sell on the site, and or what do you sell. each market is completely different with completely different standards for shipping
@@josephhutchins8 not always, I've paid to ship things I've sold, it's between the buyer and seller to decide
I work at the USPS, tip for everyone: PLEASE TAPE YOUR BOXES CORRECTLY! I care about your packages and personal items. I’d hate for my items to fall out when shipping. I just see too many damaged packages daily and I want to help someone who doesn’t have to go through that problem!
U aint lying. All day they slide out the sides....especially wen its cold
I had a poster tube arrive empty from Spain because the sender didn’t secure the tube and my limited edition artwork fell out somewhere on its way to me in LA 😭 I feel this deeply lol
@@kimmylovespolish it’s probably at the post office we usually hold it then put it in dead letter but we have no way of contacting the person
UPS don’t even let me tape my own boxes. They tape it for me. Really good customer service. That’s why I ship everything with them.
One time I sold a guitar and shipped usps, it was lost and the manager at the post office told me to leave because there was nothing she can do and she’s not responsible. She said speak to customer service line and they told me to speak to the store lol.
Anyways the package one day magically showed up to the person I sold it too. It took about a month but we are just happy it got delivered.
If I use a USPS priority box for non priority shipping what will happen?
They actually have a priority box that is the size of a shoe box. It’s actually called a priority “shoe box”.
And it’s a flat rate shipping, and it’s usually $15, which is a lot
That's what I said lol
@@jaredb4283 that's not a lot
@@jaredb4283 that's not a lot considering the fact that I pay that much anyways.
Yup...we ship these all the time 😃
Depending on the post office they will reject these modified boxes either at the source or at the customer and ship them back to you. You do not get to recover the cost you paid for shipping, that's lost.
I've been doing this with all sorts of USPS packaging for a while, several hundred packages a year. Never one single time have I had a rejected package.
Now, what you CAN'T do is try to use this packaging for regular mail, it must ship priority. Some folks I know try to wrap the box with brown packing paper and they get away with it, but I'm just not that daring.
@@golf4life357 Maybe that's how I've made it by... Our post office is huge, I guess to keep the line down they keep two large blue rolling bins in the lobby. Everyone who has prepaid places them in there. I guess my clerks are just really kind or careless or both?
@@golf4life357 Another thing is when I prepay my labels, it doesn't show dimensions, it just shows weight.
@@golf4life357 I suspect you were using a flat rate box. Shopping cost with those is based on size and they don’t want them modified.
I was about to say the same thing, my husband sells hot wheels and he altered one of the smaller ones to fit some hot wheels and they straight up said no to take it back since they are a flat rate
Reed the agreement you enter into when taking the box. You will find that is actually breaking a federal law. Commonly overlooked not always.
I can't stand these flippers thinking usps theft is cool and smart. When usps no longer provides boxes, this is why.
It says medium box.
They don't care. Not to mention the fact that their employees don't know about these regulations. Those regulations are used when they need to trap someone, not for the regular person.
@@RussSmith what?
USPS gives you these boxes free so that you use there service!
These boxes can be shipped to you free and the boxes are free on the USPS website and 100's more like it.
There is nothing wrong with changing the dimensions on a non flat rate.
She is wrong the dimensions don't change the price on this size of package. The only thing that matters is weight as far as cost of a small box like this goes.
I wouldn't count this as "never paying for shipping boxes" because they price of the box is included in the overall price of shipping.
It would be a free box though if you'll never ship it as intended?
Keep in mind that when you use priority boxes, you will pay priority rate.
Its a flat rate box and they are cheap.
*someone pointed out it wasn't a flat rate box.
If it’s USPS, anything over 1 lb. ships Priority....
Keep in mind if you alter the boxes you must pay full rate, you can use a self serve kiosk but I wouldn’t want to get in caught at the post office, it’s federal crime
@@Twistedmist I had a feeling it’s not legal to distort the flat-rates boxes in any way...
@@Americansikkunt you can distort them as long as then you pay for it like a regular box, it can't use the flat rate pricing anymore.
When you work at a UPS, USPS, or FedEx you learn neat tricks like this to save on supplies and time on the belt repacking. Awesome short👍🏾
UPS GANG! BOXBOYS FO LYFE!

UPS STORE ON TOP
Fuck ups
FEDEX ALL DAY!
Yall repack shit on the belts? I put everything in a a tote box and send it to clerks
Pro tip from eBay seller
If doing this, make sure you're NOT using the free flat rate boxes. Make sure you grab the box labeled "Mailing Box" like the one she's holding to not look so sketch and avoid having your package rejected.
Alternatively, just ask your USPS clerk for a Priority Mail Shoe Box. They'll know what you mean, I promise.
Note: free USPS boxes can't be used for for first class mail or parcel select ground.
Additional tips from someone who works at a Postal Terminal:
1) they sell priority shoe boxes, which are already shaped to size.
2) if you send something in a priority box, it has to go as Priority Mail (At LEAST $8, more likely $10-$12) so if you are sending something light, you are better off finding your own box to send as First Class mail (Around $4 - $5.) You also CANNOT turn priority boxes/envelopes inside out and send them as First Class, they will be sent back/thrown out.
3) Size/dimensions of the box don’t really matter unless it’s really big (like probably 4 times or more the size of a shoe box.) All the really matters when shipping is weight.
4) If you manipulate a Priority box like above, make sure you know whether it is Flat Rate or by Weight. If it’s heavy (Like about 5 pounds or so) do Flat Rate, and if it’s lighter, do Weight.
Yes but don’t forget….if u use those priority Mail boxes they can only be sent priority Mail. And don’t get the flat rate boxes cuz they look the same….
@Peter Dela Cruz they do care.
@Peter Dela Cruz UPS might not, but USPS does.
@Peter Dela Cruz flat rate cannot be altered in size there nimrod
No you can cover it in paper and take it anywhere to be weighed and shipped.
@@jasonm7973 so do extra work because your using the boxes for a purpose its not intended for got
USPS has Priority Mail shoe boxes for free in their shipping supplies section. Dimensions of that particular box are 7 3/8" (L) x 5 1/4" (W) x 14 7/8" (H) and come in a 10 or 25 pack and are free as well.
They fit shoes, but not a shoes in shoes box
The most helpful thing about this short….
Tell me you have no idea what you're doing with shipping without telling me you have no idea doing with shipping. Priority mail boxes are free, but you need to pay for priority mail postage if you use one. And if it's a flat rate box, changing the dimensions of it don't affect the price. You're better off turning the Box inside out if you just need a box to ship something in. Amateur
Exactly..
That doesn't even work anymore. They started printing "priority mail" on the inside of the box. Learned the hard way.
Unless you’re shipping these boxes through USPS Priority Mail, this is very illegal. You ultimately pay for the box when you ship the package. If you’re not paying USPS then this is what they call theft. I did this as a kid without consequence but you certainly could get in trouble.
One of the many reasons our post office is in financial trouble.
The only boxes that's allowed to be disfigured are the "mailing boxes" the ones that say flat rate on them we will send at which ever cost more...
Went to local post office the other day to mail out boxes of wrapped gifts. Our post guy was cool. The one box was going to cost $30 to ship. He asked what was inside and we told him. He asked if he could open the box to try and reset it. Sure. He proceeded to do some cutting and origami and dropped the shipping price to $12.
This is a company that almost went out of business and they still do things like this. 👍
Buy them a gift card next time will be less to ship and they will get exactly what they want
Alternate title: "how to get flagged by the post office"
I worked in shipping , those boxes are “free” because they are provided by the government to ship out the flat rate cost. And there is even a similar size box for shoes called priority mail large. This lady just reshaped a box which is normal in the shipping industry lol
I just save all the boxes and shipping material/packing I get stuff in and reuse that. It’s way easier and cheaper. If you have space for new boxes you have space for used boxes. Just cut the tape and fold them flat and keep a stack in the corner or the garage.
This. Why spend a bunch of time recutting and folding and shit. Imagine doing this for 10 or 50 packages. Bunch of time wasted. I was thinking the same as you
Best hack ever, I have about 75 1095's sitting right next to me haha
No this is not a good idea!😬 Please read my comment I just left explaining why.:)
How do you send a card to your teacher?
“You can grab as many as you want.” Yes. They’re for USPS’s shipping product, “priority mail,” which is flat rate shipping.
Priority Mail is not Flat Rate
As someone that uses to work in shipping... yeah we used to tape up our own boxes when we ran out of certain sizes.
Or you can just get the USPS boxes specifically made for shoes.
Those do work for some boxes, but the box she had is much too large for the USPS shoe box.
F blm. Snowflake
@@nastynas9610 Haven't heard that before
Literally have tons of those boxes lol great hack.
This feels illegal.
Wow, didn't expect you to be here. How ya doing?
Woah it's Cody
You could wrap it in some plain brown wrapping paper from the dollar store and then add your shipping labels. You still wouldn't have to pay for the box and if the items are light you shouldn't be paying a lot for the shipping itself
It costs more to ship an item that size if you don't use the priority mail boxes
The post office will reject it sometimes, they say the paper get jammed in the machines
If the paper gets stuck in the machine, and rips off, they now no longer have an address or a return address. I work for a packaging company, we ship all the time through USPS, And they were the ones that told us not to do that. They may still accept it, but it's really at your own risk.
@@Reece426 you could seal it on there with clear packing tape. It's a lot of work but still feasible
If the paper tears and the post office sees the priority box inside then it will marked postage due.
FYI if you alter the original priority shipping box you get charged extra
No you dont. I've sold over 500 pairs of shoes
@@maxinvasionleet youve done this box alteration?
@@rmartin6914 yes something 95% similar to it. In fact yesterday I made a box connecting 2 boxes into one since I was shipping 2 shoes to one person. Just make sure the box is a priority mail box and doesnt say flat rate anywhere on it. And obviously you must ship it priority mail
Nah that’s only for flat rate boxes
We just used to send a "Postage Due" to the receiver since we could tell by the weight shape and size of the package. Literally by touch and if we suspected something we just send the package to the postal inspectors since they are allowed to open them. Good luck!
Lol, true not supposed to modify the box , especially flat rate boxes... if a box comes modified I decline it .and the post office does have priority shoe boxes. Follow the rules and stop making stuff complicated
If they are not in your local post office you can order them online
@@poontang32 and they are free?
@@jackiehopson8334 yep!!
@@poontang32 It's not a flat rate box, it's a mailing box, probably a 1092. Her box would never fit inside a USPS shoebox. There is no rule against manipulating a non-Flat Rate box. I've shipped thousands, over the 20+ years I've been selling online without an issue.
@@ToyAddict sounds like you have lazy people who don’t do their job right at YOUR post office.
Love this hack!! My local Post Office has shoebox sized boxes. Truly best thing ever. Also padded sweater bags. Not many stations have them.
Genius af.
The USPS never expected such ingenuity.
make sure you're actually using priority mail though
Ever notice that there's printing on the inside of these boxes? This is to keep cheap people from turning the boxes inside out to make their own cardboard box.
Right on Tia you know what's up I been wondering why shipping cost was different on eBay this helps so drastically thanks 🙏
I'm going to try this at work. We do "ship from store" orders and lately we never have boxes that fit, they are either too small or way too big. Thanks 👍
USPS has boxes that are made for shoes on their site. Check there.
Amazing Hack!
How to never have to pay for shipping boxes? When you ship priority you are paying for the box. Remember kids, nothing is free, specially when it comes to the Government.
Yes nothing , nothing is ever free.
If you are going to send Priority anyway you are saving on the cost of the actual box.
Another tip if you want it go to your local gas stations on the day that they accept product in. They usually have a lot of packages and boxes that are empty from snacks that got shipped in. They are more than happy to not have to break those down.
Yep my local post office said ..it's been tampered with and are unable to ship....I tried..lol
Tried this with a sz 13 Jordan 4 box, instructions unclear, now I have Jordan 4 slides.
This isn’t true, that is a medium flat rate box, it still cost $15 to ship anywhere in the US no matter how you cut or configure the box.
It’s a “mailing box” so it goes by weight and dimensions. They are labeled “Medium Flat Rate” or “Mailing Box” also if you order regional boxes they are even cheaper but only come in certain sizes.
It’s actually a mailing box, not a flat rate.
These boxes are from their "if it fits, it ships" line. These are flat rate no matter what their weight is😉
@@Esellajessica that’s not true either, it’s up to 50 pounds.
You have to pay a flat rate no matter what’s in it, if it weighs less than 50 lbs. and no matter how the box is folded
See Jenny's comment, but also, if you print your own shipping at home you should be paying around $13.34 (at current time), to ship a Medium Flat Rate box. You save a lot if you print your own shipping.
USPS has free FLAT RATE SHIPPING BOXES AS WELL. I have never had any other box used ship more cheaply. No weight limit, same price. And USPS has SHOE BOXES that you can order for free online shipped right to your home. Any extras you can leave at your local post office for others.
I agree, my post office has a karen who will reject anything not exactly how it's supposed to be used. But good luck if you can
If you use these boxes they have to be sent priority mail..and you basically have to use USPS because FedEx and UPS can (if they want to) make you change the box 🤷🏻♂️
Poly bag the box
Except if you’re selling with StockX or Goat..it’s actually illegal to use USPS boxes to ship with UPS. Only do this if you’re shipping with USPS.
If you're using a free priority box they're still gonna make you pay priority shipping. It's cheaper and faster to just use a flat rate most of the time.
If you really wanna save money shipping, use unbranded or non-usps shipping supplies and pay for first class
Yep. This is what I do too
USPS CEO looking at this video like, "ooh really now"!!!!
If you ship shoes like this you’re asking for them to get destroyed on the way to the buyer
I wonder if they have a higher chance of getting damaged.
The post offices near me will charge you priority rate for using that box. Even for part of a priority sticker, they will charge you more.
“Siri, how do I commit mail fraud”
Then just mark the package “materials for the blind”, then you don’t have to pay for shipping… please do not take this joke as actual advice.
Only for certain things, all packages are subject to inspection when marked with materials for the blind or media because people try to cheat the post office.
These shorts are going to get you to a hundred thousand subs faster than you can say Sneak City:)

Resellers can now make another $2. 😂
I think paying for mail, and taxes, is one of the few things we could all agree needed to be paid for
Don’t think your allowed to tamper with the box like that to save money I think they’ll reject the box
That’s only on flat rate boxes. These are just USPS mailing boxes. You can reshape them, Frankenbox two of them together, shouldn’t be an issue. They look the same as flat rate boxes, but you’ll notice they aren’t labeled anywhere on the box as flat rates. :)
Correct!
Just an FYI altering the boxes makes you pay full shipping price, you can you a self serve kiosk but I wouldn’t suggest stealing from the federal government.
It is a mailing box anyway (not a flat rate box) so you are paying for the actual size and weight.
@@TheresaVE priority mail boxes from usps are flat rate as long as you dont alter them, then them become pay by size and weight.
@@Twistedmist not all boxes are flat rate. Some are mailing boxes (as seen in the video). They say “mailing box”, not “flat rate”. With Mailing boxes, you pay whatever the cost for weight. (Just like if you used a plain box)
@@Twistedmist and you can no longer alter flat rate boxes. That came out last year.
@@TheresaVE Unless they changed something since they came out with the mailing boxes, the flat rate boxes have the blue bade on them that say tracked and insured, the mailing boxes are plainer without the blue badge and say tracked and insured under for domestic and international use.
I would have never thought of this
Some Post offices will not accept it because the box has been changed. They can, at their discretion, deny the package, or send it back to the sender at any point of the shipping lane if it is warped, have a bulge or is changed from its originally intended form. Those boxes are made that way for a reason and it is why they are free and have a fixed rate. For other shapes, and sizes, the package needs to be measured and weighted and charged accordingly.
You can also make an account with USPS and they will ship the supplies to you totally free
But is there a limit =_= if there isnt ima make a bff=big fukn fort or just make a big fire _/(._.)\_
Dude, that's so smart of you! Thanks for sharing this you must be one smart cookie.
I can see this working on all the different sized boxes USPS uses!
You have to buy the USPS boxes though. "Buying a box from USPS with extra steps" 🤣
I needed to see this a couple days ago! Great idea!!
Stock up before they start charging for boxes 😭
I used to do this in the late 90s. They've been free a very long time. I don't think they will start charging for them any time soon as the cost of the box is factored into the shipping price.
You can’t alter a priority box from its standard dimensions
I’m sure some places don’t give a shit but most of the time they won’t let this fly
The box is free- but you’re not going to get the flat rate. My ‘brilliant’ idea cost me $45 to ship an altered $20 flat rate box last week. Ouch.
Just saved my life! I literally ordered 3 boxes of the wrong size, and I did this hack. I'm shook 😅❤
Thats dope -- whats the largest shoe that fits in that box?
Just go to the counter and ask for Medium Size box, they have multiple sizes I have no idea why SneakCity is telling people to grab the small ones.

Can't believe I haven't thought of that!! Always shipped bigger boxes for no reason apparently lol great hack!!
This is the smartest shit i’ve ever seen… wow this could’ve saved me so much money😂
Wow WTF say less
The more compact the box is, the bigger the possibility for the actual shoe box to get damaged LMAO
I have so many in different sizes. You can order them from your post office in a variety of shapes & sizes. You can even get free bubble bags.
If the box is altered, they're charging you more or telling you no. This is cap.
I love how this comes out right after i ship 🤦🏾♂️
This is a legit business move, depending on what you sell, this could save a lot in packaging cost
It's funny how she says in the beginning "never pay" but the last sentence had "cheaper, saves a lot of money" means I'll still have to pay lol. Anyway happy holidays all yall!
sheesh 🔥
If u want a free "box tho." Just save ur paper bags from stores and wrap with them, doesn't have to be a box, bubble wrap is the best all around!
Then you'd be paying by weight instead of the flat rate you pay with an USPS priority envelope (70lbs max). You also need to buy bubble wrap as most people don't have it on hand. USPS priority envelope is way cheaper.
@@SaltySeaWitch3 exactly
You could also just seal the shoebox with tape, weight it, print a shipping label and tape it on the box and put it in the mail. This will save you the cost of shipping the extra weight of an outer box.
You pay per pound, so if you have an item that weighs just over x amount of pounds, trimming some extra weight can save you some money. If a package weighs 2.3 pounds, it is usually petty easy to get the weight down to 1.99 pounds or less to save a few bucks. My first place to start is the inner flaps on a cardboard box. You don’t need 3 or 4 layers of cardboard at each end. Chop 3 of the 4 flaps off on each end and tape the ends closed.
They have priority shoe boxes at USPS for free
This isn’t a hack lol, the reason those are free is because when you go to ship it you have to pay for priority mail.
I remember doing this kinda stuff in elementary school to build play "houses" out of paper
Brilliant idea just have some comments...
As an employee of USPS, please keep in mind our stocks are not unlimited and priority can get pricey depending where u ship and it's weight.
We will accept this as a package for standard priority but...DO NOT do this to a flat rate package if you want flat rate cost. Once that package has the dimensions changed the flat rate is no longer viable and they CAN upcharge you.
They also have free shoe box size. Actually a LOT of different sizes. Just get on USPS and order all sizes you need and they will deliver them right to your door
Wow! I have cut regular cardboard boxes down before but that’s a money saver!
No wonder why the post office is going broke. 🤣
I work for the postal service and that's a good hack but remember always use mailing boxes not the medium flat rate boxes or the large flat rate boxes and there is such a thing as a shoe size box you can order them online but remember when you're mailing priority you always have to go priority it doesn't matter what size the box is
I didnt realize the medium boxes worked as well. awesome video lol
Thank You.Helped me out big time!💪🏼
That is dope af.. Love seeing ppl figure away to do something with what you got and not spending a penny more.
Absolutely fantastic tip. Thank you for actually posting something of value
My post office told me I can't changed the shape of the box like I'm a thief. I was mailing Christmas gift to a base. Well depend on the counter.
That was a neat demonstration! 👍
If you use priority flat rate boxes you have to ship them out as flat rate boxes which can sometimes be more expensive than if you shipped it out a different way (fedex/ups/firstclass etc)
Yup, learned a lot of box techniques working as a shipper I still use to this day 💪
I thought this is the reason why we had art class in school...
