Great video and helpful to new sellers! Some tips I wanted to add as a former Ebay Powerseller and someone who has shipped hundreds of packages. (My son is stationed overseas too, so I've sent many care packages to him.) 1) Don't forget the regular Priority flat rate envelopes! There is standard and legal sized. The standard sized one is the cheapest method of flat rate and it holds more than the small flat rate box. I think I've used a small flat rate box only like 2 or 3 times. That box fits INSIDE the flat rate envelope, so that tells you something. Also, I recently saw a video on UA-cam where a girl shows how to fold a flat rate envelope to create a base on it similar to a box, which allows it to accommodate a surprisingly wider variety of items. Totally within USPS rules, as long as you're not actually modifying the seams of the envelope and you can still close it with the adhesive strip. Tip 2) There is a Priority Mail large flat rate GAME box, which ships for the same price as the other large flat rate box but is longer and more flat...like a board game. It actually has a greater cubic area than the normal large flat rate box. My son recently shipped us a laptop and a bunch of other stuff in one of those. Tip 3) Another option for long items like board games, tennis rackets, etc is to use two regular Priority boxes nestled inside eachother, one on one end of the item and one on the other end. For example, a 1097 box fits nicely inside a 1092. Tape them securely together wherever they overlap. Last tip: get a free Pirate Ship account. Super user friendly and can be used for online sales or personal shipping needs. Gets you like 20-30% off the normal USPS rates you'd pay at the P.O. Also, Pirate Ship gives the option to ship things in a mailer envelope for cheaper by a method called Priority Mail cubic rate. Enter just the length and width of the envelope, as well as the weight, and this can sometimes provide significantly lower rates than shipping in just a box. You can even do the "box in a bag" method. You just have to make sure neither of the dimensions of the envelope are over 18 inches. Hope those tips helps someone out there.😊📦
@@colleenkeith3902 You're welcome! Just love to help people save on shipping costs as that's where many sellers lose money by not being informed and prepared. Also, I forgot to mention that Pirate Ship offers $100 of free insurance and their rates for additional insurance are significantly lower than the USPS. I've heard they are far easier to deal with than USPS should you need to file a claim. (Thankfully, I've never had to file a claim myself.)
Great, AMAZING INFO! Can you help me out with the answers to this question? Do you know about using your own boxes? Im confused about how it goes with this🤔 If i use my own boxes and its under the 70 lb thing, can i just use THE PRINTED EBAY SHIPPING STICKERS for Flatrate padded, Flatrate box, Regional boxes etc and place on my reused box Someone please help me out with the info for this! Ill be grateful for the answer to this question Thanks!
@@anthonybunch8044 First off, I never reuse Priority Mail boxes or envelopes. They are free and can be obtained either at your post office or by ordering free on the USPS website. They also aren't particularly sturdy so they usually don't look good enough to reuse. Secondly, I do reuse other types of boxes. If there is writing or shipping label remains on the outside of the box, I gently pull it apart at the seam, turn it inside out, and hot glue the seam back together. This is only worth your time if you can't find a Priority Mail box that works for your item or if you're not going to ship via Priority Mail, such as Media Mail, First Class, Parcel Select, or a different carrier altogether (FedEx or UPS). Third, anytime you use your own boxes you will have to enter the dimensions of the box and its weight. The shipping cost will be based off those details. Fourth, no, you cannot print off a Priority Flat Rate label and affix it to a box that isn't specifically labeled as that type of Priorty Flat rate envelope/box. You can, however, print a regular Priority Mail shipping label that is based off the dimensions and weight, as described above. Hope that answered your questions.
@@anthonybunch8044 Also, Priority Mail Flat Rate isn't always the cheapest. I usually find the smallest box I can safely fit the item(s) into, taking care to protect fragile items or things with sharp edges that could puncture the box. I fill up the empty space to keep things from shifting around. I have a huge roll of butcher paper, so I often just crumple some of that up to fill empty space. Then I enter the box dimensions, weight, and destination zip code into Pirate Ship to look over my options to determine whether a Flat Rate box/envelope is cheaper. If a flat rate is cheaper and I can fit my item(s) into it, I transfer items to that box/envelope. Shipping involves lots of out of the box thinking. No pun intended.😉

EXCELLENT tutorial! Shipping is the most intimidating and confusing aspect for someone like me who has never sold anything on line, and this is the tutorial I needed to watch. The TITLE of your video is perfect as well, it says it all. I do have one question, which is how to print a label if one does not own a printer. I plan on selling on Poshmark, Ebay, and Etsy, and I don't know how the shipping label procedures work with these sites if one does not own a printer. Thanks again for your excellent tutorial which will save many of us alot of $$ and time!
This video is Awesome. I've been selling for several years but just started full time as an ebay seller. Ive always been confused on shipping. I've watched numerous videos, but this video not only simplified the process, but also allowed me to create my own "cheat sheet" for my listing desk. Thank you SO much!
I'm brand new to online selling, and was feeling hopeless. There's just not a lot of good content out there for saving on shipping rates. This? This is excellent content! Thank you so very much, and please keep information like this coming!!
Great video. Two questions. How do I hose to ship with a flat rate box or the regional when I don’t know where it’s going till I sell It? How do you handle combing shipping on multiple purchases? Thank you!
The previous things I've sold, I sold at a loss because of shipping. Sometimes they want to charge me 30$ to ship! I'm like it was 4$ on Ebay. I *must* be doing something wrong.
I sell on Poshmark and mercari mostly because the shipping is so simple and straightforward. I occasionally sell on eBay but it is shipping what still scares me. Even though i've never had a problem, even chosing Pirate Ship. Since you don't know where the package is going (say Puerto Rico or around the corner) I'm always worried it will be a gazillion $$$. That is why I don't offer free shipping.
I've been selling on ebay since 2013 and I can say that shipping is by far the WORST part of the process for me. I'd recommend NEVER using anything besides the USPS. UPS is RIDICULOUSLY expensive and what really aggravates me more are the buyers who think shipping is cheap and that you are trying to rob them via shipping costs.
Usps just charged me 50 dollars to ship a box that weighed 3 lbs. their reason is the box size of 15x12x11. Ridiculous. I lost 20 dollars on that sale.
I don’t think the regional boxes are available anymore, I was just checking at the website. If you still have some they will let them go through but they’re not providing anymore.
Does anyone know about using your own boxes? @@sabretooth556 To me it didn’t work at all. You’re able to list only 5 items max when you start out and in a few months I was able to sell only one shirt. I know I should have kept going and maybe swap the items listed for something else more attractive for the eBay buyers, but that started being too much work for me. I only wanted to get rid of some bags of extra clothes I have, not have a business around it.

I also took the risk of accepting the one offer where the buyer was from the US and even had a 100 percent positive feedback (although they had just 1 purchase their entire lifetime) and You know what - they never paid up . Thankfully I had called EBay and they specifically told me not to ship anything till I got yhe payment, so no loss of anything. Thank you for your patience to explain it clearly!! You did an amazing job REALLY tell what we need to know. Keep up the great work and thanks again! 🌹☺️☺️
You can ship via USPS waaaaaay cheaper than in the video. Notwithstanding it is 2 years old at this point. Very rarely use that USPS priority mail, it comes with a free box yea but you can buy your own box for C$ and then use the cheaper USPS service and save big. I am sure at the time this was a good vid but now, 2 years down the road, this is old news, out of date and expensive when compared to other methods. I sell 40 - 50 items a week on eBay and never use USPS Priority Mail and all m y feedback is about how fast my shipping is.
This is the 1st video I stumbled upon for shipping advice, liked and subscribed! This will be way helpful as I am a newbie and I know nothing about shipping aside from mailing a Christmas card lol, thanks again!
Awesome video! When I used the shipping calculator to calculate postage from Australia to Europe (just as an example), the prices were scary insane! Problem is, I didn’t get the option to select “eBay rates” - only Australia post. Why could this be?
Thank you for an awesome explanation. I am viewing this in late 2022 when rates have increased, but the information is right on. Glad to see I've learned (the hard way) and I'm doing these ideas. What I can't fathom is how eBay sellers are doing expedited shipping, in my zone for 80% less! USPS and UPS, eBay rates, are always less than flats listed and I can have 4 lbs for a box larger than regional and flat. Perplexed...
Hi Rodas! Thanks so much for this really helpful video! Around 3:55 you mentioned shipping starts at $2.74 but as far as I can see on USPS site, cheapest shipping after media mail starts at $4. Can you tell me what info I am missing? Or has price gone up since this video? Thanks so much!
Hey, usps doesn’t show their first class package pricing online. You have to use either eBay or stamps.com(or other shipping site) to see the first class package option. But prices have also gone up as well
you are a great teacher! Clear, concise and so easy to understand. I also watched several videos on shipping and was still not confident. You explained so well, so thank you !
what if i have no printer. if i chose ebay rates would it make a difference if i have no printer or in this case just package then ship directly from the usps?
@@RodasYonass ok, so after i package the item i can take it to usps to get weighed and shipped (w/label). .50 per label at office depot makes no sense. i was just wondering if you didn't have a printer and wanted to ship to a customer, you can write the customer info. on the package and have usps printer out the "tracking label". thank you so much for your input .
@@RodasYonass How would you get eBay rates in this case? Is it possible? What would you do at the Post Office to get eBay rates (having already paid for such online) and get the label printed there?
This video was very informative! Thanks so much for explaining everything as well as providing tips on how to save money. Love the bookshelves in the background btw 👍
When shipping via first class package, do you have to use unbranded poly mailers/boxes, or can you use USPS branded packaging (given that it’s not flat rate or express packaging)?
I want to create an Ebay account to sell mostly antique and vintage items. Like an old record player (it's very heavy), typewriters (also very heavy it's made of iron cast metal), a treasure chest trunk, cedar chest, etc...But not knowing how much to ask for shipping and handling has kept me from doing so. Because I wouldn't know where it's shipping to. This video is very helpful in selling smaller vintage and antique items that I have. But how would I ship things like these heavy and bigger items with the correct shipping and handling charges. I wouldn't want the shipping to be higher priced than I anticipated.
wowwww. this is the first video i watched on shipping and maybe the only one i’ll need to. and the linear progression?? 1) made it easy to take notes going from least to most expensive, and 2) probs the most well done "how to" video i’ve ever watched. thank you!!!
This video is very helpful! I haven't started selling on Ebay because I had no idea how to figure out shipping. You've explained it so well and it's so much easier than I thought!!!
Hey Rodas! Just in case you do another video, or update this one, don't forget to mention the USPS Priority Flat Rate shipping/postage costs to US Territories, Protectorates, Military PO Boxes/Bases, Minor Outlying Islands - are ALL - US Domestic Postage Rates. Simply put, shipping from Maryland to California is the EXACT same cost as shipping from Maryland to the Northern Mariana Islands (My Home).
I am just getting started on Ebay and was struggling to find the best shipping rate cost. This was so so helpful. One question, when posting your items, how to you know what to list for shipping if you do not know what package you are going to be shipping it in?
Thank you Rodas for the video on shipping pricing on eBay. I am still at a loss as to the order of the shipping charges. If I input the weight and the dimensions of the package I will be sending, who decides what shipping method -- the seller or the buyer? I saw that there are a number of choices in the pull down menu for the various methods. Who chooses these?
Not sure if you're still on you tube or not, but I've been afraid to list cause I couldn't understand all the details about shipping. You broke it down and it is much appreciated 👍
1. Media mail - books & media Polly package. 2. Get the scale - 1st class mail (less than one lb.) 3. $7.60 flate rate padded envelope- small item 4. Flat rate envelope -$7.75 no matter where or weight 5. Regional rate box; max of 15 lbs. ($7-$17) Reginal B boxes matters where it is going to: 7. Flat rate box - 13.20 no matter where. 8. $18-19 for large box (A) USPS generally, sometimes go with fed ex. 9. Online shipping calculator - ebay has one online. I printed a prepaid e-bay shipping label and taped it to a regular size envelope and stuck it in the outgoing mail box of my condo building. Was that correct or should I have gone to post office to have them scan it first?
This is exactly what I have been looking for! Great job explaining point by point, slowly, great examples. I will share this whenever I come across a newbie looking for shipping help! Liked and subscribed! Thanks!
Hope to try selling on ebay again using your advice. Last time I lost a bundle. I'd calculate the shipping (going directly to UPS or USPS) but the buyer only paid me a fraction of that. I guess where I made my mistake is not using preprinted ebay labels?
The best shipping video I have seen. Clear and explain for beginners, but to the points with good instructions, kept me focused on training. Thank you for making the video.
Wow! Thank you so much. I sell on Poshmark where I don't have to think about shipping and never went on to use EBAY because the shipping made my head spin. This helped tremendously!
And then what, can you make another video of how you take the packages to the post office and what do you have to do there? Please? I'm new in the country and I've never sent a package before. Like for example do you have to buy stamps for those packages? So you have to pay for the box and the label ? And can you show how do you make the labels😢 please.... thank you
First Class mail doesn’t have tracking and if buyer claims they didn’t receive it you don’t have proof. Also adding tracking to first class comes same price as priority.
Best info I've found on this topic! Liked and subscribed. Maybe you could do another video on how to pack and ship very small items, ones where a poly bag and the label bought from eBay would be WAY too big.
COMIC BOOKS are not allowed to be shipped by Media Mail per that USPS page at the 2:37 minute mark. At the bottom, it states that because of advertising, comic books do not fit the standard. You said that the 2:51 minute mark that comics and books are OK.
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. I have been selling over 2 years and still don't own a scale or printer. My girlfriend bought me a thermal printer for my bday. Now I need a scale. My bread and butter has been media so I don't have to guess much. But I have been selling outside that media box and lost on shipping a few times. Now that I have a label printer and will buy a scale soon, I'm wayyyy ahead of myself from even a month ago.
Does anyone know if you’re allowed to double wrap your item with a flat usps padded envelope? Like putting my item in a padded envelope and then putting all that in another flat padded envelope?
How do you keep up with what flat rate, first class, ground advantage and whether to ship in a box that way or in a poly bag? I am new to this and just lost. Thanks for your help.

I'm brand new to online selling, and was feeling hopeless. There's just not a lot of good content out there for saving on shipping rates. This? This is excellent content! Thank you so very much, and please keep information like this coming!!
🙏🏽
Wow I'm only 5 minutes in and you have already helped a ton. thank you
First video that actually discusses how to determine the shipping cost. Very helpful.
Happy to hear it was helpful
I've been selling on ebay since 2013 and I can say that shipping is by far the WORST part of the process for me. I'd recommend NEVER using anything besides the USPS. UPS is RIDICULOUSLY expensive and what really aggravates me more are the buyers who think shipping is cheap and that you are trying to rob them via shipping costs.
100% agree
🙄
facts
Usps just charged me 50 dollars to ship a box that weighed 3 lbs. their reason is the box size of 15x12x11. Ridiculous. I lost 20 dollars on that sale.
I'm new to ebay....what if you don't ship cuz shipping too much? They can't do anything .. .rite?
I don’t think the regional boxes are available anymore, I was just checking at the website. If you still have some they will let them go through but they’re not providing anymore.
For items above 1 pound, I find that Pirate Ship typically has even cheaper postage prices than eBay.
I finally found a good shipping video on UA-cam. Thanks for this video. It was very helpful.
Does anyone know about using your own boxes? Im confused about how it goes with this🤔
If i use my own boxes and its under the 70 lb thing, can i just use THE PRINTED SHIPPING STICKERS for Flatrate padded, Flatrate box, Regional boxes etc and place on my reused box
Someone please help me out with the info for this!
Ill be grateful for the answer to this question
Thanks!
AMAZING video. I'm starting to sell clothes on eBay and had no idea how to ship a package. This guide really helped a ton. Thank you.
Hey Mary Jane, m starting out as well , how’s it going for you? Hope you had positive experiences! I am truly scared of scammers and really just hoping for the best!
@@WhatashameMaryJane thanks! M kinda in the same boat, have a lot of personal things to purge and I started listing them. Day 1 I got offers on everything (which felt weird tbh), turns out they were scammers- sigh! Thanks for honest feedback - helps and I don’t wanna spend a whole lot of time on the platform, might keep going for a while and then maybe remove the listing!
@@sabretooth556 how do you know if they are scammers? I’m starting to sell some things and don’t know what I should be looking out for…,
@@vgarcia4952 couple of things, the account trying to buy was created just on that day or T-1 that’s a sure shot sign so stay away. The buyer hasn’t made any purchases in the past (this is a bit grey as they could legit be trying to get something and have never had the need to buy something before!) , I had listed my item at 120 with best offer from 70 and the 2 offers I got were both 120. But be very careful, look at account start date, positive reviews and most importantly don’t ship anything till you get paid.
Similar to us here in Canada.....big range in the delivery costs depending upon who you use! 😀👍
Bro, and also I just want to let you know that your success and channel blowing up this year really inspired me and made me excited about improving my own channel.
Market Scraper I appreciate that bro. Let me know if you every have any questions about UA-cam
@@RodasYonass thanks bro 👍
You need to be a teacher, our children need people like you to lead them!
Omg thank you so much for this video!!!!!!! 😭😭😭 total newb at reselling, using multiple platforms and I found an awesome stash of USPS boxes in the house we just bought and I didnt understand how to properly use them! UNTIL I found your video!!! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!! for suggesting your video to me! Was literally the first in my UA-cam feed! 🙏🙏🙏
😄
Thank you SO much...first video I found that actually walked through the packaging choices and shipping costs. LOVED!
Happy to hear it was helpful
big thanks, i like how organized this video is, and appreciate you starting with the cheapest options and working your way up
Great shipping video. Helped me to understand the shipping process clearly. Thank you.
To try to figure out shipping cost before the listing is genius! Who in the world could think about that life hack!
I got the scale through your link and its so cute!! I like it I recommend it too
Glad you like it. It lasts forever too
Thank you so much for your video! I just sold my first item on eBay and I didn’t know what to do. You helped me and I am grateful for you.
Way to keep up the UA-cam grind friend!
Your videos have been killing it 👍
On Facebook I only need to know the weight, I have no idea what box I will be using when I list. How do you get around having to know the package measurements. This is keeping me off EBay.
I appreciate you so much for being so detailed and organized throughout this video, it helped out so much.
I love this video I hope he makes millions off eBay !
Hope you make millions too!
But prices have also gone up as well
@@RodasYonass Aha! Ok, thanks a bunch! 💗
Thank you. Thank you. Finally someone walks you through it clearly. I’m hung over so your speed of speech was perfect
Happy to hear you found it helpful!
you are a great teacher! Clear, concise and so easy to understand. I also watched several videos on shipping and was still not confident. You explained so well, so thank you !
How do you provide shipping information to the buyer after you sell ?
what if i have no printer. if i chose ebay rates would it make a difference if i have no printer or in this case just package then ship directly from the usps?
Do you have a staples or Office Depot? You can just print at those locations for less than $.50 and save a lot more than shipping from usps directly.
Yes you can. Just take the package and tell usps where you want to ship it and they will print a label and put it on the package
You have to use unbranded
@@RodasYonass Okay, thank you!
Can you turn a flat rate envelope inside out and use it for first class shipping? ?
I want to create an Ebay account to sell mostly antique and vintage items. Like an old record player (it's very heavy), typewriters (also very heavy it's made of iron cast metal), a treasure chest trunk, cedar chest, etc...But not knowing how much to ask for shipping and handling has kept me from doing so. Because I wouldn't know where it's shipping to. This video is very helpful in selling smaller vintage and antique items that I have. But how would I ship things like these heavy and bigger items with the correct shipping and handling charges. I wouldn't want the shipping to be higher priced than I anticipated.
OMG shipping is so complicating!!
wowwww. this is the first video i watched on shipping and maybe the only one i’ll need to. and the linear progression?? 1) made it easy to take notes going from least to most expensive, and 2) probs the most well done "how to" video i’ve ever watched. thank you!!!
Thank you!
We are going to start doing free shipping I believe so this video should help. I just need to adjust the prices of buy it now.
This video is very helpful! I haven't started selling on Ebay because I had no idea how to figure out shipping. You've explained it so well and it's so much easier than I thought!!!
What if you use your own boxes?
Thank you for clear, precise shipping instructions. Appreciate you not rushing through the various shipping methods.
Very informative for beginners. Recommend for anyone not knowing where to start with shipping.
I have watched a ton of USPS shipping videos but yours was the most helpful explanation. Thank you for sharing your experiences. 👍🏽
Excellent video. What should I use for a box that does not fit in an envelope and is under one pound? Thank you!
I really appreciate you for this video! It really helps confused beginner small sellers to determine shipping options.
Very helpful. Just starting to try to sell items on ebay, and the shipping was obviously a little confusing. Thanks for the help.
man i feel like i need to go to school for every aspect of selling online even the shipping.. so many nuances
I’m still here and I’m glad you found the video helpful!
THANK YOU! This is what was holding me back from selling on eBay…I appreciate this information. I now feel confident in what i need to do!
1. Media mail - books & media
Polly package.
2. Get the scale - 1st class mail (less than one lb.)
3. $7.60 flate rate padded envelope- small item
4. Flat rate envelope -$7.75 no matter where or weight
5. Regional rate box; max of 15 lbs.
($7-$17)
Reginal B boxes matters where it is going to:
7. Flat rate box - 13.20 no matter where.
8. $18-19 for large box
(A) USPS generally, sometimes go with fed ex.
9. Online shipping calculator - ebay has one online. Include height, weight, dementions & destination distance.
10. Buy shipping rates online
Measure it, plug in numbers as farthest away, to be safe.
That's what I've heard, hope I didn't make mistakes, if I have, corrections are welcomed!
Would it be ok if I add a copy of a music note so it qualifies for media mail whenver i ship something?
Just got back on .made hundreds 1st week. In 2012. 20 countries. Find card board in local dumpsters to use for shipping. Bubbles are found sometimes
This is the best breakdown of shipping I’ve found. So informative and comprehensive, thank you so much!
straight Gold!! Best videos I've seen on youtube yet! man is straight to the point and actually says what people need to know! Keep it up bro!
I appreciate that!
Welp!!! Got all the info i needed. Hahaha cant say that ive ever stuck around for a full shipping vid without skipping... very nice work. 👏👏
I appreciate that!
Thank you everyone else makes shipping on ebay seem like rocket science😭😃I’m ready to sell my books on ebay🙏🏼☺️
🙌🏽
Absolutely the best video yet!! Thank You. Subscribed.
Flat rate/ regional are generally more expensive than priority or ups.
Great Video! I've been researching this information for so long and this was by far the most useful video that I found. Thanks
Happy to hear that
This is a great video. For us Canadians Canada post is a rip off compared to USPS!!
Thanks!
😁
Hope to try selling on ebay again using your advice. Last time I lost a bundle. I'd calculate the shipping (going directly to UPS or USPS) but the buyer only paid me a fraction of that. I guess where I made my mistake is not using preprinted ebay labels?
THAT WAS INCREDIBLE! I am so, so grateful that you were nice enough to make this video! THANK YOU! SO, SO MCUH!!!!!
I’m glad it was helpful
The best shipping video I have seen. Clear and explain for beginners, but to the points with good instructions, kept me focused on training. Thank you for making the video.
Thank you
I liked and subbed, good videos, keep em' coming!
Wow! Thank you so much. I sell on Poshmark where I don't have to think about shipping and never went on to use EBAY because the shipping made my head spin. This helped tremendously!
Happy to hear that
And then what, can you make another video of how you take the packages to the post office and what do you have to do there?
Also adding tracking to first class comes same price as priority.
thank you for your explanation of all the different shipping options.....
My items was deliver successfully thought the help of Southhack1 on Instagram, he's the best when it comes to hackinG
Does anyone know if you’re allowed to double wrap your item with a flat usps padded envelope?
Like putting my item in a padded envelope and then putting all that in another flat padded envelope?
Yes, you are allowed to do that
great advise, this explains shipping much easier, now I just need a video on how not to be lazy when shipping....thank you for the video
WOW !! Fantstic video, I just listed my first item, and I had no idea how to calculate the shipping, thank you so much !!
Glad the video was helpful
How do you keep up with what flat rate, first class, ground advantage and whether to ship in a box that way or in a poly bag? I am new to this and just lost. Thanks for your help.
USPS also offers a priority rate -same size boxes as flat rate, but supposedly lower cost for light weight items. Have you tried it?
