When I used regional boxes A & B on eBay, I got back charged by USPS at the end of the year through eBay (where I purchased the labels from) for underpayment for quite a few of those boxes. My post office can't explain what they're for, and it seems they may actually have something to do with distance the package is traveling rather than being all purpose.
The medium and large flat rates are excellent for Poshmark sales! We can use any USPS Priority box and those are great for bundle sales or larger coats, blankets, etc
Been reselling off and on for about 2 years now. Ignorance aside, you've opened my eyes to a whole nother option to shipping. I always wanted to be a magician when I was knee high to a grasshopper, and now I can be. Thanks Teach!
i use the mediums often. they are great for poshmark as we can use any flatrate boxes with their labels. i dont generally use them for ebay though either.
I think people get confused because of the word "REGIONAL", and that they can only be used to ship to certain areas of the country. On another note, the small FRB came in handy recently shipping a set of dominoes...perfect fit with no packaging or filler needed! Thanks Kevin for another informative video!
Thank you Kevin. I am in Alabama and shipping across the country is expensive.I know that for me starting with flat rate was the easiest. Now I am trying to learn more to save my customers the most I can in shipping. I want to increase sales with more attractive shipping prices. Regional boxes and Pirate ship are the areas I am now trying to learn. Thanks
Just asked the postmaster about Regional A & B today and didn't really get much help. I was going to research it and saw it on your videos tonight! THANK YOU for making this clear. I will order them now! Love watching your videos while I build drafts to list!
This was an awesome video, and just saved me a lot of money! I just sold 2 vintage anvils, each weighing 10+ lbs. Both fit into regional rate A boxes. Thanks Kevin!
Game changer!! Last night I was checking to see if some items would ship in a Region A, but I couldn't find that option on ebay, now I know how! And I never considered the flat rates as a second option for further locations! Thanks for always making my day!
Here comes the "dumb" question... I have never seen an option for the A and B boxes and many others on the ebay shipping. What am I missing? I do see the flat rate boxes but never the other box options. I have also seen a new one ebay international shipping, is it better then global ship? Thanks for all you do. I have learned so much from your videos.
There are no options to include for a shipping option. You would use it after it has been purchased on the shipping page. Click Carrier Packages at the top of the shpping page and at the bottom click Compare all services. But what you can do it do calculated shipping in your listing for 2 pounds if you know it will fit in the A box and 4 pounds if you know it will fit in the B box.
Thank you for this information. I haven't gotten a clear answer to Regional A/Regional B box questions from postal employees. You've explained it clearly. I'd love more info on testing remotes and a camera tutorial. I've learned so much from you. I sell on Etsy and Ebay and am trying to expand the variety of items in my shops.
One thing I noticed a lot of ebay sellers do that is flat out wrong is they pad their shipping cost . Another thing I have had happen to me is the person I have got a item off of Ebay is they will used the boxes and wrap them in plain brown or some other dark color and if the Post Office ever catches them then they want to charge the person receiving the item the difference in the shipping cost. Thanks for the info keep up the good work
I once shipped 4 iron sash weights that weighed 26lbs to Cali. Regular shipping was outrageous or course. However, I knew they'd fit in a medium flat rate. I packed them very well. When the buyer got the box, the weights were missing! She said it didn't appear the box had been opened, but there's was nothing in the box. USPS paid me of course because I could prove they were there when I dropped them off (26 lbs!). I guess somebody thought they were gold bars!

I've been looking for this kind of specific information for months and this video finally explained this haze of confusion about which box to use based on the situation to me. Thanks man !
Order the boxes for free on usps website. They ship them to your house. Completely free. You would buy and print the label from ebay and then take it to the post office to drop it off. Or take it to a mailbox plus store if you have one. My PO has the new qr code that you can purchase on ebay. It emails you or you can download it and show the qr code at the PO and they will print the shipping label for you. No need to waste ink paper or buy blank labels for printing. Complete game changer. Its awesome. Been using it for the past few months.

I ordered a variety of the USPS boxes & envelope but used more often only the flat rate envelope & padded envelope. The other boxes are now gathering dust in my garage. I’ve known about the Region A & B boxes but never bother to find out what it is for. I always thought it’s for shipping items to a certain state in the USA. Now that you’ve explained it a flood of regrets came to my mind thinking about the items i could have shipped & save $ using this. So just to clarify Region boxes are base on weight not on location the item will be shipped to??? Thanks always for the wisdom you share.
I think the names of these boxes is misleading because for the longest time I thought that Reigon A box meant I could only ship to Reigon A, wherever that was! My post master tried to explain it to me, but she was talking about the dimensions and how far it could go, and I'm starting to think that she didn't actually know how it worked either!
Thank you so much for this information. I have never known where to turn for answers on these regional boxes. Asked at the post office and they didn't know. I have been selling under a couple of ebay ids. Debs*Treasures and GrandmasPlace. Under Debs I have been selling since 1999, left for awhile after the managed payments gave me a huge problem and would like to get going again under that name as well. So for me as an old timer, you are the first to really explain this and it will help tremendously. Now to revise my listings and get rid of some of those over priced shipping costs. God bless you for all your help. Oh, and I plan on buying an enema man soon. Lol!
The flat rate legal envelope is in between the smaller flat rate envelope that you have in the padded flat rate envelope on price and I use the legal flat rate envelope for a lot of things like jeans for example and sweaters and hoodies. But I tape all the sides and I practically cover it and packing tape because it is cardboard it will tear open if you do not tape the flat rate envelopes that are not padded!
So I can use the region boxes to ship anywhere in the USA? I though they were for only certain places you could ship to with them. Can you freakstine them?
I just came across your video about packing and saving money. I'm new, I desperately need to make extra money but when I was in school 45 years ago I was the dumb kid the slow kid but now we know Its ADD not slow children. All three of my children have ADD also. I have no help at all the help I have is amazing people like you. WOW, you have an amazing set up/workshop. All I have is a 38ft school bus with the seats taken out. That's a whole different story. Anyway, I'm wanting to turn it into my Workshop. I'm really scared to open up an eBay store tho, I have plenty of Inventory I'm ready minus the printer. Thank you for your help.
Bottom line everyone needs to educate themselves like you said in the beginning of the video on shipping cost and shipping options. There are times when it's cheaper to ship your item in a normal box or a mailing box that's priority mail instead of the regional. it needs to weigh over a certain amount or be going to a certain zone that gives you cheaper rates because the regional boxes are based by zones for their cost. I just always look at all my options. Example number one yesterday I sold a collapsible insulated game guard soft ice chest. I charged the buyer $11 for shipping because I underestimated the size thinking I would be able to collapse it somewhat and make it smaller which did not happen. The box ended up being a Frankenstein box of two boxes put together and it was 19" x 14" x 12" and weighed over 5 pounds the original weight that I had put was like less than 3 pounds. I never planned on shipping it in a box much less two boxes Frankenstein together. But I sold this for 40 something dollars. and I didn't want to just put it in a poly bag and then something happened to it and we have to refund the guys money. I have nothing into it because it came out of a storage unit my ex-husband bought it and gave me the stuff out of that he didn't want. Shipping USPS was $27. Shipping UPS was $18. Shipping FedEx was 20. I messaged the buyer asking them if it would be OK if I shipped UPS or FedEx since they chose priority mail and I like to usually use the shipping method that the buyer chooses. I got no response so I ended up shipping at UPS. The downside is the UPS delivery date was one day after the priority mail date but Im really hoping it gets there in time 😅 my mistake was not taking shipping cost and looking at options more seriously at the time of listing it.
Great info Kevin! I do offer multiple shipping options on a lot of items, but never thought about flat rate for people in Alaska of Hawaii. Never to late to teach an Old Dog new tricks LOL
I think Pirate ship is so much easier. I did not know about the region a & b boxes and have just ignored them but now I know I'm not missing much! Thanks!
Great video Kevin. I wish I had this info when I started; would have saved me a ton on shipping. Recently, I had to ship a big 10lb item. Wouldn't fit in any flat rate or regional box. Tried Pirate Ship, same price as USPS. Turned out yucky for me. But luckily there are good teachers like the CF to help us in our journeys.
Just watched this video...As a "Newbie" I greatly appreciate you and the time that you have taken to make your videos... I will now be spending my afternoon binging your videos 😊 Thanks again! 😊📦🎶✌️
OMG the small flat rate box definitely never gets used either because it just cost too much to ship something that's that small. Very rarely if ever do I have something that small to fit in that box that weighs over a pound.
Understand about using large or medium flat rate as an option, but how do you add the option when listing? After entering weight and dimensions, it gives a high and low cost. Can’t see where you can add another option for the buyer to consider. Perhaps in the description?
I have never found a reason yet to use the flat rate B Priority or the Regional B box 😕 not in 10 years. please tell me what you would chip in it? I seriously don't know. It always ends up being more expensive than just shipping normal weight/size priority mail.
You crack me up, tell people to get on USPS and order all those boxes but you don't need them and you toss them away, lol. I agree, I did get the large flat rate for my vintage games, what a waste. All the videos I have watched trying to figure out the Regional ones, I finally get it. I just realized I have been losing money using regular priority mail and I should have used Regional A. Thank you so much.
Only once did the PO return a Poshmark package to me. I sent kitchen towels in one of those floppy mailers. I was POd bc I'd been mailing stuff out for a few months at that time point. Went to the local PO and asked about that issue and they didn't have any idea, bc they mailed PM packages all the time. Never did find out why it was rejected and returned.
Hello, I watched the video and tried to follow the instructions. However, when I went to the USPS free shipping supplies website, I couldn't find the "Region A" and "Region B" boxes for free supplies. What would you recommend I do
Kevin, can you add two or three options in a business policy for shipping? Sometimes I see someone has selected usps for calculated shipping but due to their location they could save money on another service. I’m still confused about whether I have to ship the selected service when charging one price too. Recently I had a woman in Puerto Rico select my 11 flat rate (stupid of me) and it said buyer selected USPS which would have wiped out any profit. Could I have sent ground?
I'm sure I'm Oversharing at this point 😂 but on the bubble mailer flat rate envelope "padded flat rate envelope" most of your women's shoes will fit in there up to size 8. From size 9 )on and most of the men's shoes) I end up having to mail in the "priority mail shoe box" (15x9x6) which is not flat rate and is more expensive to ship.
You don't explain how the "magic box" turns things into 2 lbs or 4 lbs. If a Regional A box has something that weighs 5 lbs, HOW do you only pay for 2 lbs? Are you under reporting the actual weight?
I’ve been reselling since October 2019 and having the right box for the job is always a bit of a hurdle. Do I have the box I need, how much will it cost, it’s X inches too big and now it’s $30 to ship! This video is super helpful. I really enjoy the content.
Never assume just because another reseller has made the video that everyone has seen it. I didn’t know this about these boxes and I ship on a daily basis for my day job and have been a reseller since ‘05.
I would NOT tweak the region a/b boxes. I shipped a Reg B with the sides swollen, the flaps closed like they were designed. Went to CA from FL, customer was then charged an extra $12. Which was the only negative feedback I had last year. I'll never do it again.
Pirateship cubic also has a 20 pound limit, so the medium and large flat rate boxes are useful for dense items like transformers. (power and audio, not the toys) However, the USPS boxes are not strong so will need reinforced.
We need an updated version of this video, now that the Regional Rate Boxes have been discontinued. @Commonwealth Flipper

FYI regional rate priority boxes are going away. Use them while still available
I use all the flat rate boxes but I buy poly mailers big enough to fit them inside and almost every time sending it normal priority mail is cheaper
Great info Kevin! I do offer multiple shipping options on a lot of items, but never thought about flat rate for people in Alaska of Hawaii. Never to late to teach an Old Dog new tricks LOL
I know your not to old of a dog.
I think Pirate ship is so much easier. I did not know about the region a & b boxes and have just ignored them but now I know I'm not missing much! Thanks!
Yup but they can beat pirate ship from time to time. Just did yesterday for me but you are correct if you do PS you are fine.
I bought one of those blue Marsh tape dispensers through your affiliate link not to long ago and it is a total game changer!!!!!!
I love it because its so heavy. Perfect for small pieces.
Glad it was helpful!
Just watched this video...As a "Newbie" I greatly appreciate you and the time that you have taken to make your videos... I will now be spending my afternoon binging your videos 😊 Thanks again!
😊📦🎶✌️
Wow. Be sure to comment on the ones you like so I know how you are progressing. Have a great day and thanks for the kindness.
Can you use your own box instead of the flat rate boxes that's very similar
Thanks for the shipping advice.
So do you pay for the box at the post office or pay for the label at the post office? Or do you just print out a label and the box is good to go?
OMG the small flat rate box definitely never gets used either because it just cost too much to ship something that's that small. Very rarely if ever do I have something that small to fit in that box that weighs over a pound.
Omg! Thank you so much! I am so glad I came across this video, it literally changed my life!
So you can add more than one option for your listing? Can u let us know how?
Understand about using large or medium flat rate as an option, but how do you add the option when listing? After entering weight and dimensions, it gives a high and low cost. Can’t see where you can add another option for the buyer to consider. Perhaps in the description?
What do you recommend if I am shipping hockey jerseys/hoodies on eBay?
I use the long large flat rate box when I sell heavy laptops from East Coast to West Coast
I the flat rate priority mail I use a lot 😊
Keep all your options open and keep all your box sizes. When compared to UPS you will be using them Medium and Large flat rate boxes a lot.
What a great explanation of the Regional A and B boxes. Thanks.
My pleasure!
LOL. Nana. I don't tell them to get the Large flat rate though.
What would you recommend I do
Regional A and padded flat rate are my main 2 I ship 80% of my items that way
What do you think about Shippo?
never used it.
WOW- thank you for explaining Regional boxes!!!!
You are so welcome!
Best explanation ever!! Thank you so very much !!
Such a great teacher
You don't explain how the "magic box" turns things into 2 lbs or 4 lbs. If a Regional A box has something that weighs 5 lbs, HOW do you only pay for 2 lbs? Are you under reporting the actual weight?
I’ve been reselling since October 2019 and having the right box for the job is always a bit of a hurdle. Do I have the box I need, how much will it cost, it’s X inches too big and now it’s $30 to ship! This video is super helpful. I really enjoy the content.
Great video! By the way, may you please do a video on how to test used remote controls?
Never assume just because another reseller has made the video that everyone has seen it. I didn’t know this about these boxes and I ship on a daily basis for my day job and have been a reseller since ‘05.
I would NOT tweak the region a/b boxes. I shipped a Reg B with the sides swollen, the flaps closed like they were designed. Went to CA from FL, customer was then charged an extra $12. Which was the only negative feedback I had last year. I'll never do it again.
Pirateship cubic also has a 20 pound limit, so the medium and large flat rate boxes are useful for dense items like transformers. (power and audio, not the toys) However, the USPS boxes are not strong so will need reinforced.
yup. 15 lbs limit on the a box though
Flat rate boxes are best for shipping something heavy 2+ lbs that's going west of the Mississippi (if you live on the east coast) and vice versa.
