    I’ve been a lifelong thrifter and have felt worried at times that my guests will think my mix and match dishes and glasses and things are too weird, and your point is so simple but it blew my mind! It’s easier to tell your drinks apart! 😂👍 I feel better about the lack of perfectly matched kitchen goods now.

    I can see you doing a picnic with that table cloth! Would be just perfection!
    Your thrift shops are so much fuller than the ones around me in the 🇬🇧. And yes prices went up here too due to inflation and gas prices.
    But we can still rummage and find little bargains which keeps me interested.
    I also donate all of my no longer needed/wanted items to our charity shops too, it’s so satisfying to see the process of reusing things again and again!! Love love love it!!!

    The package of fabrics looks like a quilter cut out sizes of fabrics needed to make each block to put together for a quilt. They may have gotten bored with the project, or decided to donate as a result of a sewing room cleanup. Love all the fabrics you got!

    As a fellow reasure hunter in Victoria, the price increase in mainstream op shops is very reflective of the market they are now aware they have attracted; ie., us! I've found truffling through independent op shops much cheaper and more productive - those one-off shops connected to a single church, community charity or organisation. Our church has one and they often have $2 days just to move through a lot of stock. I don't understand how the so-called big Charities (I won't name names! ) can defend their prices as an option for those in difficult circumstances. Many have prices that exclude those they were originally established to provide for. Plus much stock just sits there week after week because no one wants to buy it at those prices, while if it were cheaper there would be much more profit by quantity. Can you tell I feel strongly about this?! Ha! Don't even get me started on the cutting up large pieces of fabric into smaller (unusable) pieces!
    All that said, your purchases were delightful and I appreciate being able to go for a shop vicariously!

      You’ve nailed it perfectly! The thrift shops in Canada are ridiculously overpriced except for the small town church thrift shops…..

    the squares of fabric are probably what comes from the sheet makers The squares are the cut out corners from the fitted sheets. They were sold years ago from the factory shops along wuth rolls of 3 or 4 inch wide fabric used for the ruffels on pillow cases. these things turn up randomly when an older lady gets rid of her stash.In SA the factorys have all gone over seas but 20 years ago you could buy meters of sheeting etc and make up your own and the quality was great. If you look closely at your pieces you will probably find they are new fabric

    It’s interesting that you mention the price increases in the op shops. It’s become quite the topic of conversation in Melbourne. I’ve been reading that some op shops now have a retail arm with paid staff and impose sales targets, etc. I’m trying to support small independent church run op shops now.

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  2 роки тому +1

      Mm that’s very interesting! The rent in Melbourne must be very expensive though, so I guess that makes sense?

      @@RoseryApparel I'm in Canberra and I find the best stuff in the independent church shops. That said vinnies often has gems. However I'm a bit fussy about religious organisation op shops - the churches I go to are ones that (as far as I can tell) have decent values. I don't go to the Salvos because they've said multiple anti-lgbt things as an organisation. If they think I suck for existing they're not getting any of my money!

    I love thrifting also & admire your self restraint! Lol I can get too carried away & buy way too much!🫢
    Just fyi: I used to do color analysis years ago & observed that people tend to migrate towards the colors that look best with their skin, hair & eye coloring.
    It not as easy to analyze on camera as it is in person but you seem to be a warm fall color tone, which is why you are attracted to your complementary colors in peach & earth tones.
    I am a cool summer color tone so my closet always ends up with muted shades with gray and dusty pink colors, lots of faded denim, dusty rose, lavender & neutral soft white….which compliment my skin…
    People tend to also decorate their home environment in the tones which compliment their skin coloring as well.

    With that tablecloth you found, if you do make a shirt or something with it you could possibly keep enough of the tablecloth to make a table runner or place mats. You could even save the fringe and reattach it to the runner or place mats :) Great finds, thanks for sharing with us.

    I would talk to the folks at the thrift shop to ask if the textiles are being cut by them or arriving that way. You might find if you tell them you’re looking for vintage bedsheets they may set them aside for you! My thrift shop is super sweet and they love seeing what folks do with their finds.

    That bag of scraps looks like a quilters cast offs, like they started a project and either changed their mind or were older and could no longer finish it, so it was donated. I live in Idaho, in America, and we have lots of packs like that here.

    Love to thrift shop. When I want to retail therapy shop I go to the thrift stores. It cost less. Here where I live the prices have gone up but are still reasonable. I can get most clothing for $4.30 US. I'm collecting fabric to make a men's shirt quilt. I'm actually wearing the men's button down shirts first but someday they will be turned into a quilt😂. Your wine glasses are kind of like coffee mugs. They're all different, we have our favorites but they all get used. I loved you wine glasses and the fabric you found. I love the earthy autumn color palette you like. It is totally different then my favorite color palette and very enjoyable to watch.

    Thanks Janelle for taking us op shopping. Every now and then you come across a real treasure in the op shops. Mine recently was a hand made gingham apron with lovely cross stitch. I think the first fabric you showed was your treasure for the day. Have a good week and I hope it is starting to warm up in Tassie. Across the ditch we have had a lot of rain, causing slips and flooding, I hope you didn’t get it.

    Hi Janelle, that pack of fabric squares could be something like what I have in my stash! In the early 90's my mum picked a couple of packs of squares like this at an agricultural field day with the intention to make a quilt. It looks like they were cut and bundled from the factory. They're now in my stash and I'll use them eventually...

    Hi Janelle, Thank you for taking your subscribers along with you while Thrift shopping. I found it interesting and, to be honest, I think it is impossible to choose a favourite purchase. I loved everything you chose. I, agree, it will be hard to decide between keeping your lovely tablecloth for it's original purpose or make it into some adorable item to wear. I look forward to you making the quilt with the fabric pieces you acquired. It is going to be gorgeous, as the pieces go so well together and I know you are a wonderful sewist, no matter what you decide to make. And, as for your, truly unique and painterly floral fabric, I think you could not have found a more exciting challenge. I will be very interested to see what you choose to create since that fabric is like none other I have seen in a very long time. Perhaps, you will find a way to use this gorgeous aspect of your new fabric to be an original that is completely your own design. Such fun, if anyone can meet this challenge and capitalize on the opportunity it is you. There is no way it won't turn out to be a piece to cherish. Every item in your wardrobe is a perfect mix of femininity and romance by design, fine quality in fabric and creation, and when mixed with other pieces in your wardrobe and finished with the chosen stockings, shoes, coat etc. the completed ensemble is just wonderful 💖

    UHGGG!!! So bummed to hear your area has gotten greedy too. The price hikes at the thrift spots here in the Pacific North West states (USA) have been insane over the last year. Every time I go the prices increase more and more. It used to be so much fun and now I feel like I can go to Target for new stuff for the same price. To end on a positive note…I love your finds!

    Hi from Brooklyn, NY where it's currently 85⁰ F or 30⁰ C 😅
    Do you ever check thoroughly for the condition of the second hand sheets you buy before you buy them, looking for holes, ripped or stained parts? Fading or peeling? The sheets you pick always look impeccable on camera and I wonder if you trust the store, if you check or if you pick a sheet that isn't perfect and cut around damaged parts when not used for sewing kits but for yourself? I spent the last 2 weeks watching 50 of your videos, made me feel good ✨️ thank you for putting quality content out there

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much for watching my videos, it really means a lot 🧡 Usually I give them a quick check, but mostly the op-shops won’t sell them if they aren’t in a good condition, or the tag will say ‘as is’ on it meaning there may be a tear or stain on it. Sometimes I’ll get something home and notice a stain and will just make sure to cut around it 😊

    I think it's sad when they put up prices In the UK you donate to second hand shops so they can raise money for their specific charity.If their not sold in a certain time they sell them to businesses who then sort and make a profit.The whole idea of second hand shops,other than to raise funds,is to allow people to buy goods at a vastly reduced sum that they wouldn't be able to afford.Some of the prices are now so high it's best to buy new.Unfortunately the charities suffer by overpricing.
