As someone who grew up in a small town, it is absolutely wild to hear a UA-camr I've followed for years talk about their visit to the town I've lived in for many years. Knowing each of these places and vividly imagining your visit to each is new to me. So welcome to Texas. I hope you enjoyed your time here! Here's a few recommendations I'd offer that you haven't mentioned in case you ever return or if anyone is interested: *book stores* - First Light Book Shop || beautiful small bookshop in a cozy neighborhood with good coffee and plenty of relaxing seating - Book People || if you visit Austin and don't make it here, you didn't do Austin right. This is the biggest independent book store in Texas and it is absolutely incredible. Two floors of knowledge and imagination for your perusal. They also have a small cafe inside so you can order a coffee and pastry and look through your finds. - Austin Public Library || Not necessarily a store, but this place is magical! Get food and coffee from the cafe downstairs, wander around the small gift shop, or even grab some board games to play on the rooftop while overlooking downtown and the river. This place is one my favorite places in town. (Can you tell we love our coffee here? Lol) *thrifting* - Austin Pets Alive || this is one of the most recommended thrift stores in town. They also have a great mission of keeping animals off the streets and finding them loving homes. *misc. local shops* - Clover & Maven || This lovely little shop is actually just around the corner from Roommate Collective and The Paper + Craft Pantry. It's another collective that's run by a few local female artists that host the work of other local artists! They change our their supply every few months so there's almost always something new and the people running the store are absolutely delightful.
Wow! I live in Houston and have lived in Austin twice and now want to go back for a visit and try out many of your suggestions! I MISS REAL BOOK STORES! I love how Austin has a very different feel from Houston. The bike rides, the parks, the hills… balloons taking off from Zilkef park….sigh 😢. Thank you for all these suggestions even for those close by. ( we move back to Canada next year so I need an Austin fix soon!) no I won’t miss the heat. No I am not moving to snow. 😂😂
Welcome to Texas! One of my favorite Austin thrift spots is Austin Pets Alive! They support animals in need and seem to always have great finds. If you can, I'd encourage you to make your way down to San Antonio (about 1 hour's drive) or spend a weekend exploring the Hill Country to see more of what Texas has to offer! Enjoy as much barbeque, tex-mex, and cajun food as you can!
I love to hear the reactions and experiences of the US from people’s first visit. It is a new lens to see from, and it makes me think of how things are different in other countries. Subtle culture shock, like a 20” pizza being unusual is funny to me. These small differences delight and intrigue me. I’m so glad you had a good time here. We can get a bad rap in the world (sometimes justifiably), but there are some wonderful people and experiences here, and we welcome you any time! ❤️
Same here. I actually laughed when she was shocked that a 20" pizza was huge. But laughed in a good way because it's interesting to get other people's perspectives
My daughter lives in Austin near the University of Texas. Austin has the best coffee shops and thrift stores. Welcome to Texas! Love your channel. Made my first potholders from your videos. You came here at the hottest time of the year including hurricane season. Glad you are having fun.
So glad you got to visit AustIn. 🥰 It’s a really quirky fun place. I wish you would do more mini embroideries of your travels. That one you did when in Japan was so gorgeous.
Welcome to Texas! So sorry it’s SO hot here! I use to live in Fort Worth/ Dallas area and that is where there are loads of 1/2 price Book stores! Loved it, but moved back to Abilene and do not have a half price book store here! Goodwill use to be great, but now they are so expensive , used good same price as new items at Walmart!! Just Ridiculous those prices now days!
I'm sure we met maybe three weeks ago in the Goodwill in Oak Hill in the dressing room line. Who would imagine finding you here on UA-cam, especially so soon! Thanks for the links to shops up north (I live way down in South Austin). I just subscribed to your channel.
I have loved your Austin series! I’m in Houston and have watched you for so long. It’s surreal seeing you go to like Joann’s and coffee shops in Austin
i really enjoyed the reading/book parts of the vlog! would be really interested to hear you talk more about the books you're reading! 🥰📚 been really wanting to read butter very soon!
Aw, I miss Half-Price Books! I used to live in the US midwest, and there was one pretty close to where I lived. I got so many of my books from there. Now, though, the closest one to me is over 2 hours away. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Austin and thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Very much enjoyed the video. The sleeveless dress you bought from the op shop would make a very good basic sewing pattern which I think could be hacked into different styles. A future project ?
Austin is a nice place to visit. My husband's family lives there. It has a lot of nice things to see. I live in midland tx about 6hrs away from there. I'm glad you had a nice time.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Austin! I can't even imagine your travel time- best wishes getting back to Tazzie time. Thanks for sharing all your fun adventures 🧡🧡🧡 (those are suppose to be burnt orange hearts for you.)😊
When I used to live around Austin I would plan days where some friends and I would go to all the different Half-Price Books 😂 they all have different books and I miss it so much!! I recognized the one you went to!
Get a large suitcase from a thrift store and fill it with everything you find during your stay in America you pay $100 extra and can take 60 lbs, actually if you pay in advance is only $65
I always love your videos and can't wait till Saturday afternoon/evening when they pop up. This video was really fun. I love to thrift and unique store shop. I'm in Ohio but you hit two of my favorites Goodwill and half price books. You're right you have to really be ready to look around and dig at goodwill. I love it and could spend hours at goodwill. My Mom will tolerate it for half an hour and she's ready to go.
I have read „Butter“ as well and you described it so perfectly! Didn’t know how to describe the weird feeling in this book and I still don’t know if I liked it 😅 Thanks for the book recommendations, I have been trying to get back into fiction lately
Omggg I have been loving your vedios and I just joined it a while ago. I would recommend you show us how to do the puffy sleeves, love your vedios rosery!!!!!
Found how much it cost to add another piece of luggage with your airline. It may be cheaper to pick up a suitcase at Goodwiil and fill 8t with your buys.😊
I can highly recommend bringing an extra bag, hopefully it can fit in one of the bags you leave with, and then book an extra checked in bagged for your home flight. It's usually around 70USD, at least it used to be a couple of years ago, but then you can bring like, 23 kilos?? And imagine what that would have cost to ship.
If you don’t mind me asking what does your hubby do for work that would bring him from Australia to TX?😊 I’m new to your channel so if you’d mentioned I’m sorry 😊
I would say Austin is not a walkable city at all! I was lucky that the thrift/vintage shops I went to were all in walkable distance to one another, but most of the time I had to Uber everywhere
I hope you enjoyed seeing a little bit of what I got up to in Austin!! Don't forget the first 500 people to use my link skl.sh/roseryapparel06241 will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare premium!

Put your fabric flat in a pillow case and take in on board as a pillow! People do this with clothes 🧵
Ha I ended up sending a package home, but maybe I’ll try this next time! 😆

OMG I'm so happy you were able to go to ACR! Hope you're having fun in ATX, it's honestly a really mild July so that's a positive!!
So glad you got to visit AustIn. 🥰 It’s a really quirky fun place. I wish you would do more mini embroideries of your travels. That one you did when in Japan was so gorgeous.
I was just talking to Matt about how much I miss making that cross-stitch this morning! I think it’s about time a start another 😄
I love that you gave the names of a few of the thrift stores in Austin. We live 30 minutes away and I feel like I just have to see them now. Thank You

Thrift with me videos are so much fun. Glad you got to go with Matt, I know that was so nice!
As a born and raised Texan, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to our capital city!!
Texas is a great state and people are generally friendly.

Me, too - I only know what's happening far southwest side! I've made notes!
you have to check out the Austin Creative Re-use Center. They have a fabric of all kinds
Love the black with gold flowers! ❤
I have loved your Austin series! I’m in Houston and have watched you for so long. It’s surreal seeing you go to like Joann’s and coffee shops in Austin
Thanks so much for watching! 🧡
I grew up in Texas. So fun to see you in my world.
You certainly look like you having a ball in Texas, enjoy 🎉
Thanks for sharing this video❤

It was the best!! I really wish there was something similar here where I live 🥲
Glad you are over the jet lag. Enjoy your visit.
Glad you're enjoying your time dear Janelle ❤🤗
I’m home now, but had the best time!
Very much enjoyed the video. The sleeveless dress you bought from the op shop would make a very good basic sewing pattern which I think could be hacked into different styles. A future project ?
If there’s a goodwill outlet or goodwill bins you can get major deals if you’re ok with rummaging through bins of clothes.
Austin is a nice place to visit. My husband's family lives there. It has a lot of nice things to see. I live in midland tx about 6hrs away from there. I'm glad you had a nice time.
Welcome to the US! 😊 Thanks for sharing. You truly inspire me to sew and travel.
Austin looks like such a cool part of Texas, I'd like to go there one day. Thanks for sharing! It is a long way from me in Sydney, though :)
This was so lovely! Thanks for the vicarious holiday and shopping ✨
I love meeting people coming to TX 😊 I live about an hr from there
Half Price Books is a fun place; I always stop into one whenever I’m home!
I loved it!! Wish we had something similar in Australia
I'm so glad you enjoyed Austin! I can't even imagine your travel time- best wishes getting back to Tazzie time. Thanks for sharing all your fun adventures 🧡🧡🧡 (those are suppose to be burnt orange hearts for you.)😊
Thanks for watching 🧡
I totally understand the feeling in Goodwill. It's a lot. I often spend so much time in there only to come away with two things.
I live in central Iowa in the US and we go to half price books for days and anniversary and before Christmas we love it
That looks like so much fun... Glad you got some bargains
I hope Austin is treating you well. It's worth a day trip to visit some surrounding towns like Wimberley or Fredericksburg. :)
Texas definitely isn’t like it is portrayed in movies etc. Glad you enjoyed Austin! We love it too
Everything is bigger in Texas😂💕 loved watching your trip
When I used to live around Austin I would plan days where some friends and I would go to all the different Half-Price Books 😂 they all have different books and I miss it so much!! I recognized the one you went to!
Ahh how fun!! Genuinely still can’t believe how good that shop was!

Awesome, glad you had fun. I live in Austin and its pretty boring. Alot of the cool shops and restaurants closed.
So many lovely finds 😍 I’ve always wanted to visit a goodwill so was fun to live vicariously through you!
Hehe I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching Rachel 🧡
Hey, welcome to Texas!!
i loved following along while you were in texas, ive never been...love the book recs...hope travel back was ok...tfs:)
That's my neighborhood! If you're hanging around here for a few weeks, I recommend having dinner at Peached Tortilla.
Also Titaya's Thai food is excellent!
Omggg I have been loving your vedios and I just joined it a while ago. I would recommend you show us how to do the puffy sleeves, love your vedios rosery!!!!!
Love thrift videos! Looked like such a nice thrift store! Will have to check them out when come to the US

It's so interesting to me how accents differ between English speaking countries, especially an Aussie accent.
I just want to say welcome to america and texas. I personal dont like the state, but I am glad you are having fun.
We have two Goodwill stores in my city and they can be quite overwhelming!
Oh I’m hearing you….jet lag is a nightmare. I’ve just returned from a 5 week trip in Europe and one week in and I’m completely lala 😂😂
Everything's bigger in Texas!
Great video Janelle. I'd love to visit Austin. That pizza! Wow!!!
The thing about goodwill is they don’t organize it as good as they could. The one in my town is trying but they still haven’t gotten it yet😊
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Your neighbourhood looked so nice and leafy. What part of Austin was that?
I really enjoyed this video.
Are you doing a crosstitch a day again?
Beautiful video as usual.
Aw thank you! I’m glad you liked it 🧡
Everything it bigger in Texas! I've been to Austin, it's a very cool city... well not temp wise this time a year though...
Yep!! I loved Austin (even though it was super hot!)
Goodwill is always overwhelming to me. I don't bother to look at the clothes because they are not sorted by size.
I also love Japanese fiction. Have you read the Morisaki Bookshop?
No I haven’t! I’ll have to add it to the list 🧡
adding extra baggage allowance in advance is much cheaper
Jet lag is the worst! Especially for international travel....
If you don’t mind me asking what does your hubby do for work that would bring him from Australia to TX?😊
I’m new to your channel so if you’d mentioned I’m sorry 😊
You can sell back the books you don't want to take home 😃
Tassie needs a vintage, (incl books) Janelle store!
Oh that would be the dream!!
@RoseryApparel you do a great job of chasing your dreams, keep chasing!
I feel the same about Japanese fiction - I’m reading butter right now myself - recent read was no such thing as an easy job - kikuyu tsumura 🦖
Awwww, you're in my town!!! Lemme know if you want any suggestions on stuff!
Home now, but it was such a fun place to visit!
What do you think about the walkability of Austin vs. Hobart?
I would say Austin is not a walkable city at all! I was lucky that the thrift/vintage shops I went to were all in walkable distance to one another, but most of the time I had to Uber everywhere
@@RoseryApparel yes that's so true :( as an American I wanted your unbiased opinion. Hope you loved the trip
Buy a cheap suitcase for all those goodies😊❤🎉❤. It may be cheaper to check than mail????
Loved this video and that you included a snippet of your husband.....hope your travel home was seamless. (
Half Price Books is a very dangerous spendy place!!! I open the door and I hear my wallet whimper.
Did you eat bbq?
We're just back from Texas, think we might be in the minority in Launnie 🙂 Been to Terry Black's yet? Edit: Oh you've left already!
Didn’t go to Terry blacks but went to blacks which is owned by his brother I think?? It was incredible! Did you wait in the line for Terrys?
@@RoseryApparel no line when we went but it was full!
cool!
hi thanks for the info, please share me the thrift location and showroom name please
