This makes me feel better. I just bought a '91 240, it has somewhere around 200,000 miles and it sounds like this at idle, but the sound is less noticable when warm or at higher rpms. It's nice to hear that a lot of these sound like diesels naturally and still run for a long time. I just put some fresh LiquiMoly oil in.
ua-cam.com/video/HTBuzLH8aTY/v-deo.html Hello, there is this sound for about 15 thousand kilometers! Is this a piston click? I put 5w30 oil, still the same. I checked the hydraulic lifters. Engine power is good. It doesn't make any noise when I press the gas, only noise at idle.
@@martinmoran89why did you replace the engine? What was wrong with it like this? Not hating I’m just curious. I would hate to have to replace my engine. EDIT After seeing your other video on the piston slap, I understand. It’s pretty bad.
@@martinmoran89 Did the engine fail completely? Curious what happened Yes piston slap is normal for these engines but never that loud as I'm sure you've learned... All of these except for the very last 90s ones were lacking additional oiling that caused failure at around 500k miles with perfect maintenance, or half that if there's been mossed oil changes based on 100s of hours of reading anecdotal reports online. Generally piston slap that almost completely goes away after warming up means failure is not yet imminent.
@@braidenis hi, it sure was piston slap and very loud at that. Even when hot under load it was very loud so I swapped out the engine. This didn't have the oil squirter either.
@@braidenis just the excessive piston slap made me swap it out. Only for her investigation I did was looking at the shell bearings and they seemed fine. I sent it to scrap then

Might be time for a rebuild in another 300k miles lol
my friend has even worse piston slap, sound like diesel when idling. 700.000km driven
that's a lot of mileage in a b230, i can only imagine the knocking haha
is this OK if we keep driving with routine oil change?
@@sigitwahyu8187 if it's just piston slap and doesn't bother you then yeah I think so
@@martinmoran89 this piston slap doesn't affect engine performance right?

Normal.
nope, ended up replacing the engine

k.o. engine
Yup, I've a new engine in it now 👍🏻
