James Christopher Gaffigan is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and producer. He presently has 5 stand up specials on Netflix and 2 on Amazon Prime Video. He wrote 2 New York Times Best Sellers Dad Is Fat (2013) and Food: A Love Story (2014) He co-created and starred in a tv series based on his life called The Jim Gaffigan Show. He has appeared in numerous TV shows and films in both comedic and dramatic roles.

Having worked as a "housekeeper" in a hotel, this is 100% accurate. If people knew how disgusting some individuals are, they'd probably sleep outside.
You are so right, I work in a 5 star hotel and I never could understand why people use towels hundreds of others have used.
I used to work at a high end hotel in the Alberta Rockies just after high school. One of my friends worked in Housekeeping; the Head Housekeeper was a total bitch on wheels so the floor supervisors were terrified of her and were then harsh with the chambermaids, cracking the whip to get their set of rooms cleaned at break-neck speed ....some of the chambermaids washed the drinking glasses in the toilet and re-wrapped them or used toilet bowl cleaner to clean the sink and tubs- which made them look shiny, but as soon as water touched the shower surface it was slick as ice and a lawsuit waiting to happen, or only ran the vacuum in the middle of the room, or vacuumed the bathroom floor instead of washing it, or did not change the sheets every day, or only changed the pillowcases for checkouts if the room was only used one night... NONE of this was ok, ever, but if they were caught they were suspended without pay for 3 days, instead of fired because it was hard to get replacement staff quickly, and were only fired if they did it again; meanwhile, the rest of the staff had to pick up their slack.
The sheets were so starched that the maids often broke out in rashes from handling them...
You couldn't pay me enough money to work at a hotel! Ewwww!!

That joke “they say swimming is good exercise but have you seen whales?” is amazing.
The "what room am I staying in" is one of his best jokes ever, and the buildup is perfect
Just came back from an hotel with an indoor pool and, not kidding, there she was... an old lady swimming with a shower cap. I almost drown

Love the pay off on the “what room are you staying at” joke. The way it interconnects with other jokes yet forms it’s own joke later. Clever stuff!
And neatly wrapped up with a closing shower cap joke.
That's the basic formula of standup comedy
@@blacklabelqlewis Plenty of Stand up falls short of this. This is a great example 'of' this kind of joke/stand up! It's a sign that this is quality material. Some routines have better pay off and this example of that kind of top quality 'pay off' and interconnections; in my opinion. I can think of several examples that are 'that good' and memorable too, this deserves recognition as 'top class'. I hope that clarifies.

Jim is the only person that can make me laugh no matter what’s going on in my life, or in this world. Thank you Jim!!! Last summer, my wife and I lost our 11 year old son in an accident. He was also a big fan of Jim. Jim’s comedy has helped us through some very difficult days since then. 🙏🏻💙🦋

Gaffigan is a comedy mastermind. I remember first seeing him on hbo over 30 years ago. He's been doing it for a while.

we think and feel but never say. I actually sit on a sheet on the hotel sofas bc I had that AH HA moment mentioned in the set. A+ for Accuracy
That sheet is probably just as nasty as the couch unless you brought your own :)
This is why I always drink in hotel rooms. Saves all that worry. I don't even remember most of the time lol.
The things I learned working at a 4 star resort hotel will haunt me forever, especial the way a room is cleaned!

@@Mcsnooters, our 400+ room resort was big on training in other departments for when employees called off work. I volunteered to spend 2 weeks in house keeping, among other departments. First day I had to follow the man who sterilizes the glasses. He carried 5 glasses at a time out of the unit with each hand--each finger was in a glass so he could carry 10 at once and take a break sooner. Ugh. He was dirty and didn't wash his hands after he used the toilet in a tiny room that only had room for a toilet. I know bc I waited for him by the only sink which was next to the sanitizer machine and that, too, was disgusting enough. He put the little plastic caps around each glass, further getting his hands all over the glasses. I was thoroughly grossed out at that point.
He got a call to fix a toilet that wouldn't flush, so I followed him. He wasn't wearing gloves. He reached into the toilet and removed solid waste and a crazy amount of toilet paper which he placed into a plastic bag, then wiped his hands on the guest's towel hanging above the toilet in such a way as to not disturb the towel display! The room had been cleaned...
We went back to the sanitizer and all those "sanitized for your safety" glasses. It was time to remove more glasses that were clean and had cooled. I stood out of the way of the sink because I thought SURELY he would wash his hands now. He didn't, and removed 10 glasses at a time from the machine!
First thing I learned in housekeeping, travel with your own cup from home!
Gaffigan is easily the funniest comedian on the planet.
Every time I see a mattress by the side of the road, I say Jim's line about used mattresses and laugh. Just a little homage to him.

Above ground pools bring back great childhood memories. The best thing was getting everyone to walk around the edges, as quickly as you could, to create a whirlpool-like current.
My favorite comedian because Jim ties everything back together at the end, it feels like he summaries the entire special in a few jokes. Cheers to you Jim!

That inside pool scenario was so true. My adult daughter and I went to a resort out of season for a few days, when she was visiting. I finally found the indoor pool, which was nearly underground and was decorated as if it was part of an underground grotto with rock walls and ferns etc. It was quite dark, full of fumes, echoing and I was all alone. It was surrounded by lounge chairs. The water was really warm and I was floating when I looked up a saw a man just standing on the other side of the giant glass wall at the entry, just staring in. Not coming in. Just staring. I was starting to freak out, and then thankfully my daughter turned up, at which point he left, thank God. We had a great time for 10 minutes and then a family with 6 kids arrived and that was the end of that. 6 kids in an echo chamber was sheer torture.

Jim always cheers me up. It takes talent to be funny and not smutty. I think he is my favorite of all time. Others have moments where they are hilarious but Jim is pretty consistent.
To this day I think this is one of his best bits. So beautifully written and delivered

That depends on who is using them - the cleaning staff, or guests. Honestly, for most hotels the most sensible thing would be to have a "room dispenser" like Mr. Burns bed dispenser on the Simpsons, just burn the whole thing and click a new one in for each new guest.

Lol, inground swimming pools increases the property taxes... and we put one in with a tiered deck, built in grill and a firepit area. We love it.
In ground pools also do not increase the value at all, and usually limits your potential buyers.
