  • We headed out hoping to film the Nantucket Sound squid run, but arrived on the grounds to find that the squid had moved out and the scup had moved in. We switched our squid jigs for high-low rigs, and enjoyed an action-filled day of scup fishing to kick off our saltwater season.

Love porgys. Incredible fighters for their size and excellent table fare. Always a welcome by catch to the NJ fall seabass season

Grilled whole Scup is absolutely delicious. I # score the sides of fish with a knife season with EVOO and salt and pepper right before grilling. Cook on grill med/high for 14-16mn flip once halfway through cooking time. A fish basket makes that easier. Then after removing cooked scup from grill add either a pesto or chimichurri to finish.

I use beat up old poles and reals for scup, seabass and tautog. Haha. 20 lb test or more mono. Always a high low rig, 3 oz sinker

How do you like the Maxel Hybrid? I have heard mixed reviews. I was going to get one but went with the accurate tern for heavier bottom jigging and the Quantum Accurist S3 for lighter applications

I like it a lot - I've fished it for maybe 5 seasons now, and have caught tog and scup on up to black drum with it. It's a fun little reel, but you need to keep up with rinsing, cleaning to keep it going. - Jimmy Fee

@@smooveb191 Tsunami Slow Pitch - tsspjc-681h i use it for up to 3-4oz bucktail/chicken rig. Anything above 4 oz I switch to the Accurate Tern and that is on the Tsunami Slow Pitch 7'6-XH.

I'm the only member of my family that eats scup. Everyone else considers it too strong. And on most boat trips, I'm usually the only one who keeps scup. Everyone else throws them back.

Help abolish the fishing licenses, a fishing license is paying for the right to fish, No State shall convert a liberty into a license and charge a fee therefore. But here in maryland the politicians ignore this.

You should’ve used the squid for bait strips.
