  • Every spring, schools of big black sea bass invade the shallow waters of Buzzards Bay to feed and spawn, providing an opportunity to catch these fish on light tackle. Black sea bass are our favorite catch. We make fish cakes out of them and pan fry them. Grind up the filets in the Ninja, make them into patties coated in cracker crumbs. Delicious.

    Very cool cooking segment Andy! Like lots of Portuguese recipes they vary from police to place and family to family. It is basically sautéed onions and garlic in olive oil and varies from there. You really don’t enjoy super fresh mackerel? I love it grilled or with that Cebolada! I’m seriously craving some. They are one of the healthiest things you can eat :-)

    First trip of the year is always black sea bass opening week (pending sea state)
    My daughter (10 now) hasn't missed a trip in 4 years, it's probably our favorite fishery and we catch all NE has to offer.
    This video was great, had a nice personal touch.

    The best Black Sea bass lure hands down is the epoxy jig or any other small metal jig. You can’t keep it in the water for 5 seconds without getting a bite

    Hey, great fun video guys. I've never had the pleasure of fishing for bsb before, but I'd love to do it. 1st step appears I need a boat. Don't think a canoe is gonna cut it from what I can tell. But how best do I start? Is buzzards bay the way to go? Anywhere along the cape Ocean side from Falmouth to chatham? What kind of depth/fish finders will I need to even get me going, especially w/out lots of money to spend? I got tackle and gear I can use for sure, but would love a pointer in the other areas.

      Hey Kyle, thanks for watching! We'd recommend you try out one of the party boats that offer bottom fishing trips during black sea bass season. They can be a great way to get out on the water and the mates and captains are extremely knowledgeable. They usually have charters ranging from half days to full days and the price is very affordable. Patriot Party Boats in Falmouth is a great option in this area but there are others around from the Cape to Long Island that offer similar trips. Just don't forget to tip your mates!

      There is a growing population of black sea bass north of Cape Cod. There's an article about that running in the March Issue of On The Water Magazine (and at OnTheWater.com sometime next month).

    What time of spring was this?

    • @OnTheWaterMedia
      @OnTheWaterMedia  3 роки тому

      This was early June. The sea bass season opens in late May, and peak Season runs through mid-June in Buzzards Bay, before they move back to deeper water.

      It's more of a decision having to do with a bigger profile than holding bottom with a smaller offering for me. The 6" grub will slow down a 6oz spro quite a bit for keeping a natural presentation even in shallow water.

    • @Cheech23

      The MA fishery opens up on May 18th but we filmed this in early June. RI has different sea bass regulations. I believe the RI season starts 6/24 this year. www.dem.ri.gov/programs/marine-fisheries/mfsizes.php#recre
