The more Chris was stripped down the better he was because his talent was just so raw and unmistakeable. Just hits you right in the face. I found Soundgarden at age age 12 in 1991 and it took me a few more decades to realize he was a once in a lifetime musician. I was spoiled.
This is my favorite rendition of this song as well. I grew up devoted to Hip Hop, but always liked Soundgarden (Temple of the Dog/Audiodlave) a lot. Around 2021, I fell into Chris Cornell again and realized how fond of his music I actually am. I carry such a deep regret for never having seen him play live.
Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. We were truly lucky to live at the same tme as him. He explained to me what I felt when I thought I could never understand. We've all been through so much. We've lost so much and when he left us, it was like I lost a father I never had.. a friend in the fight. @Shawn Jerome No, that is not the case with Chris, Shawn. Perhaps you are thinking of Kurt Cobain? Toxicology reports for Chris revealed that several prescription drugs were in his system the night of his death. He had high levels of barbiturates (prescription sedatives) and four doses of lorazepam (also known as the anxiety medication Ativan) in his body at the time of his death. Traces of caffeine (an upper), pseudoephedrine (a decongestant), and naloxone (administered by EMTs to stop a possible overdose) were also revealed in the toxicology report. Despite evident signs of prescription drug abuse, the coroner officially determined that Chris Cornell’s prescription drug abuse did not directly cause his death. This was not an overdose, and experts say it is unlikely that the “weird combination” of uppers and downers in Cornell’s system would lead him to hang himself.
Chris will always be with us as long as we keep listening to his otherworldly lyricism and voice. He was and will always be my favorite artist and I've cried every time I've watched or listened to his videos on UA-cam every weekend, since his passing. I've no more tears left to cry. I only wish that I wasn't so naive and selfish my youth, thinking he was solely singing about and relating to MY pain. His hurt was so profound, it was far to easy to relate to. It's like Josh Homme sang; "I'll make a mountain of a molehill, if the molehill is mine." If you introduce his heartful lyrics and his impeccable voice to your kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and so on, Chris will be eternal. He is in my book.
I'm now the age he was when he passed. I just can't understand why, and I've known depression for way too long. But he seemed a picture of beauty and health, and he was a daddy. Breaks my heart so bad. God Rest Your Beautiful Soul Chris 😔

That verse hits me like a right hook, when I consider his chosen fate. Lyric is made much heavier with that knowledge in the back of my mind. A few others also hint at his state of mind , in that way. Burden in my hand, fell on black days, and outshined all reveal a glimpse of a soul in agony. He is obviously in constant, intense pain. He has soul pain, not body pain(like mine), but either kind will drive you mad in time. Phys.pain makes me very irritable, mean even. I want to hit something or someone, but I dont cuz then im causing pain.(F. That) Soul pain makes you cry out and hide, nothing to hit. I just wish he could've found a reason to stay, like his kids , or something. It's tragic, but it's really not his fault. May God have mercy on his spirit and on us all. Amen.
I've got tickets to see Chris in Melbourne this December with my wife and son, can't wait. Hope she still thinks I'm alright after seeing Chris because lets face it, he is the MAN!!!!
I went through all the same experimentation as a kid . Hooked up to computers in dark rooms getting frequencies and electric brain stimulation that mom was paid for. It Took a long time to forgive for that and even longer to endure and have stability after the trauma and manipulation and triggers it caused me in my life. I still battle the frequencies that trigger physical and emotional responses but I'm more aware and able to control my reactions today. Go bless you Chris I always loved your music . SOUNDGARDEN RULES
Chris helped us battle demons that without him would have ended us. So sad we couldn't help him. But people come to this world for a reason and his was to sacrifice his passion for other people to continue there journey😭😭😢
I used to think in the dark! But I don't anymore. In his lyrics you can tell that he was in the dark. It's too late to say if he only would have waited! He left a lot of music for us I just hope no one gets the wrong idea. Never give up! RIP Chris❤❤❤
God that voice is so amazing, gives me chills and goosebumps all over. What a waste, I wish he would've got the help he needed. To this day I still think about Chris Cornell. Rest in peace my good friend.
Lord, you broke the Mold when You Brought Chris into this World!!! I dream of how heaven is right now with Chris in it's arms, He's top, the best, voice of a songbird, elequantly sings with overwhelming beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP... This song was my fav of his. Although I don't know Chris Cornell on any level....i feel as though he was an essential part of me growing up. Part of me doesn't really know how to deal with this...
Freddie Mercury has nothing against Chris. Mr. Cornell is the greatest singer of my time, my fort is built on these words. Chris helped pull the world who lost rock because of hair bands. I thank you Chris RIP
Freddie and Chris were completely different talents …both legendary …corporate suits create top 10 lists to push their agenda…art represents creativity, imagination, and the possibilities of life ….we should celebrate that …not use it as a measuring stick
Chris Cornell had so much to give, I feel he could have saved some for himself! He had an amazing career and chose to end his life, I've been there, but knowing it could be worse, I hang in there, so if I can help someone before my time is over, then I achieved my goal! This man affected me so deeply with his music, I have been deviated in loss! Go with God! 🌹 +1
How remarkable is it that his voice still sounds so amazing after all the smoking and various other things he's probably put it through? And aside from that, how does someone who's nearly 50 look this damned good? Is he even a human being?
Bro smoking doesn't age everyone lol. I smoked my entire life and still got carded, at stores that didbt require carding, up to 37 years old. Its genetics. And Chris wasn't beyond help when it came to drugs like some. He was bad but not Layne Staley bad for instance. Your body recovers
So so so so grateful to have seen Soundgarden play here in NYC a few years. I was right in the front. Chris singing, is Godly. His range is like no other. I consider Cornell one of the 3 best singers in rock history [Plant, Mercury] and he gets more credit for playing and singing also, although Freddy could do that too.
I listen to this every night to go to sleep, and then lots of other Soundgarden and acoustic stuff plays. Every.... single..... night. RIP forever Chris.

Burrow down and
Blow up the outside world

Don't let the world bring you down
Nothing will do me in before I do myself

No,thank you!! Seriously thanks
My vERy favorite part
Amen.
Please, everyone, take care of yourselves. Chris lost a long battle with his demons, let his light keep us all from that terrible fate.
Some of the lines in his songs give me the chills now.
I've got tickets to see Chris in Melbourne this December with my wife and son, can't wait. Hope she still thinks I'm alright after seeing Chris because lets face it, he is the MAN!!!!
soundzRinmygarden how was it?
Lucky you went in time
Hopefully you seen him ...😢
Always will be and so will you brother
soundzRinmygarden I love when men can admit that Chris was hot. Thank you sir, I’m sure your wife loves you all the more.
50 years from now Soundgarden will be number 1 on the charts again. Possibly the most underated band of all time.
If there be a 50 years...
They are not underrated just because you say they are.
Show me how to live has 190 million listens.
This is fantastic! I love how they play together.
The little treasures sometimes you find on youtube... instant tears in my eyes!! 🖤🙌
The lyrics spoke of pain. Yet nobody ... C.C. was a very free bird and such an amazing inspiring musician, in pure sound and songwriting.
My man stood above so many he was so talented but yet so humble that’s a real legend
Whos ur man
Listening to you know I never would you know never could ??? Really wonder what happen to this Great Man ??? God Bless Chris 🙏
Not just a wonderful Voice, great song writing skills as well, God bless you Chris. I will always miss You. Your music will always live inside of me.
Rest in peace my good friend.
that bright smile in the beginning. I wish i couldve seen it live
these should be released . Great recordings. Perfect and beautiful
5 years ago this beautiful soul left this earth. Miss him
Chris still has that amazing voice. 1 of my favorite songs ever.
The smile the first few seconds of the video the smile it captures his soul such a talented wonderful human being I miss him
If I HAD to choose, Blow Up would be my favorite SG song.... It is perfect acoustically and electrically. And it speaks to me... in so many ways.,
His shining star was just entering the Earths atmosphere! We were so lucky to be graced by his existence
Oh Chris, we all miss you too much. Now all we fell on black days.
Lord, you broke the Mold when You Brought Chris into this World!!! I dream of how heaven is right now with Chris in it's arms, He's top, the best, voice of a songbird, elequantly sings with overwhelming beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come back, selfishness wants you back, you weren't done here on Earth I feel!! I wish we could just turn back time to have you here again😢💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💯
A truly rare and completely unique artist
A ángel
This live version he's playing in full step down tuning. DGCFAD...Love this song and missing that voice.
Thanks, gotta try this tuning
This is just so perfect...perfect message, perfect delivery, perfect pure emotions, perfect acoustic, perfect grunge...a perfect Man
Oh my god.. the more you find with him the more u cry but with gratitude as well.. Oh my god im gonna hold him and just hear him sing after this life. Cornell and Layne from AIC and Jeff buckley. !
When you think this song couldn't hit any harder, you find this version.
Incredible
I think I only lived as long as i did to hear this version for the 1st time in 2024, after last hearing the song many years ago. I loved soundgarden so much. F me, amazing ❤ RIP
RIP... This song was my fav of his. Although I don't know Chris Cornell on any level....i feel as though he was an essential part of me growing up. Part of me doesn't really know how to deal with this...
My feeling exactly...and it still hurts...this is like a wound that does not heal
Chris’s death definitely stung. I wasn’t expecting it at all, I thought he could’ve held out for just a little longer.
Words can’t describe the power, brilliance and emotion in this song, RIP Chris, miss you mate
The world is a little darker since his candle stopped burning...such a shame
Beautifully put. I still have a tough time listening.
Freddie Mercury has nothing against Chris. Mr. Cornell is the greatest singer of my time, my fort is built on these words. Chris helped pull the world who lost rock because of hair bands. I thank you Chris RIP
well said
I kind of disagree, but I understand
That's the dumbest hit i've ever heard
Freddie and Chris were completely different talents …both legendary …corporate suits create top 10 lists to push their agenda…art represents creativity, imagination, and the possibilities of life ….we should celebrate that …not use it as a measuring stick
Finally able to listen to his acoustic stuff. Two years of grief is a magical amount of time.
I think it comes down to not caring about your age and not stopping because you reach a certain age. The world is not just for 20 year olds.
nope.
This is the best song in the universe
Feb 2019....missed everyday, not many Vocalists that make my spirit feel good in every note he sang with passion
And March 2019.
Great voice, great singer, great personality of grunge era... R.I.P. Mr. Chris Cornell
Still miss you man. Beautiful song and stunningly well done.
So so so so grateful to have seen Soundgarden play here in NYC a few years.
I was right in the front.
Chris singing, is Godly.
His range is like no other.
I sound crazy but if you saw them in person, you know!
A rock God for sure!
I just hope the remaining members can settle the things with Vicky.
🙏🤘
He and his voice will never be Forgotten!
Beautiful! Absolut! R.I.P. CHRIS CORNELL!
Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : ua-cam.com/video/Pu_p1wbaCa8/v-deo.html and new song ua-cam.com/video/-rJM5HtXMK4/v-deo.html
Absolutely amazing voice
What I would give to have seen this man live.
He seems so healthy. There's no end for the love I have for this man.
He actually died healthy as hell for his age as far as literally no issues. He wss in good health physically. Unfortunately that's irrelevant when mentally you're not. RIP Chris forever
Chris Cornell's voice then, now and until my death will touch my very soul. Thank you for everything Chris. See you on down that line.
I consider Cornell one of the 3 best singers in rock history [Plant, Mercury] and he gets more credit for playing and singing also, although Freddy could do that too.
He touches my soul with his words and voice. Will forever miss him. Absolutely no one compares to Chris.
I love the song for the lyrics as well as the power Chris brings to the vocal. It's a beautiful thing to experience.
A ritual to listen to Chris/Soundgarden at least once a week...better If everyday, he really scratched our hard drives, my hero!
it's true you truly do not appreciate to the fullest untill it's gone. nothing can replace his creativity, so glad he chose to share his time with us.
I listen to this every night to go to sleep, and then lots of other Soundgarden and acoustic stuff plays. Every.... single..... night. RIP forever Chris.
