RIP Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland. You guys created one of the greatest genres of music and I'll always be listening. Thank you.
many people say how can a person like chris who was so loved do what he did..the problem is no matter how much other people love you, how much money, fame and cars you have, there is only one person we spend our whole lives with, YOU. if You dont love You, there is no fix. I speak from experience, and it saddens me to see chris and chester gone now, as I lost my father. Kim Thayll is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. And Matt Cameron has always been a monster on the drums. And then Ben Shepard with the killer bass line.
The solo is one of Kim's best. They were all amazing... grew up on Soundgarden. Happy I got to finally see them live a few years before Chris killed himself. RIP Chris.
Kim was the reason I never took guitar lessons 😆 "You don't need them kid. Express yourself not what someone teaches you. You might end up sounding like someone else". 20 years later when I cut my teeth as a gun slinger I always remembered that.
I had the chance and it was only $20. in San Diego. Alas the bus there and back plus drinks and $20 was more than I had. I only had $20. That was in 1996. They weren't that big then. Imagine - Chris was playing and it would be one of the last concerts.

All the associations leading up to buying the record, physically, would only add to the experience. In the digital age of consuming music - we’ve lost something precious.
I was just going to say this same thing in the digital internet age, there is nothing left to be desired. Everything in an instant. A blessing and a curse. Definitely not good for generations who never experienced a simpler time

How they even came up with this track is unreal. It's not your typical guitar playing. I may love James Hetfield, Dimebag Darrell and Mark Tremonti's guitar skills, but Chris definitely also has that high end rythm guitar skill as well.
+777Lateralus 5 good songs? An which five from Sound Gardens catalog would you say those tracks are? You know what hasn't changed since the 90's? Music Nazis that try and oppress other people's likes and dislikes by making moronic statements about bands they know nothing about?

Mine was event based and thank goodness temporary, but it gave me at least a little insight into what it is like for those who have chronic depression and how difficult it is to live with it. Many people may see this song as a premonition of what happened. But I see it as him finding strength in a situation and telling the person who defined him in that moment that he was done with their control over him. This song is him showing strength in the best way he could.
This is one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks. Sounds still so refreshing compared to much of current rock music. Soundgarden were one of the most sophisticated grunge era bands with their chord structures. Their chord structures are just so fucking cool especially on songs like this. And I've always loved Matt Cameron's drumming, a very essential part of the Soundgarden sound just like Dave Grohl was for Nirvana. They are both drummers who's playing draws ones attention unlike many other drummers.
Saw them at reading festival in 1995. Didn't realize it then but how lucky was I to see them. Great singer, great band, great time to be alive. RIP Chris.
so many cool bands during my teenage years. soungarden was just one of them. each week each month you hear new cool bands on mtv... in my view 90's was the golden age of rock music.
Christopher Turney cool! Someone told me about them on UA-cam this year and they are insane. All of their KEXP stuff is incredible. Def check out “crumbling castle” too! 🤟🏻
One of the craziest voices around. His range was off the charts. How tf he could stay in that high octave range for the majority of some songs without destroying his vocal cords is insane. Chris was definitely built different. Not to mention being an amazing songwriter. Huge loss 😢
Chris Cornell was one of the most beautiful men on this earth and one of the most awesome vocalists ever!!!! I wish you were still here. You still should be here.
+Crabmaster had? no sir, I'm going to be 32 in a week and my teenage days are here to stay. not saying I don't have responsibilities now but I'm going to stay young till I die!
Werd. I was about 12 when grunge exploded through '92, and it was the perfect soundtrack for that interesting and mind-expanding transition from preteen to teenager. Soundgarden...Alice In Chains...Nirvana...Pearl Jam....Temple of the Dog...Mother Love Bone...Helmet...Chili Peppers...Faith No More...STP...Metallica...GnR...Tool. What a time to be alive. My world revolved around MTV, anime, videogames (Were you a Genesis or Super Nintendo guy?), and cute girls. Pretty much like my world today (minus MTV...RIP), but it was all fresh and new and exciting back then.
RIP, Chris!! This song (and band in general) got me through some really tough times when I was younger, and it still does today. I know how it feels to be unhappy even though lots of people love you. It is not easy, and sometimes it feels like it gets worse the older I get, but I am trying my best!! I've made it 48 years so far ☺ To anyone out there who is suffering from the same feelings, just know that you are not in this alone, and I love you. ♥ Anyway, that's all I have to say. This dude is off to listen to some more awesome tunes. ✌ y'all!!!
Sound Garden a awesome group, Chris Cornell awesome Singer sad he passed away was near my age may Chris Cornell RIP 💐 I'm glad you made it to 48,I'm 57 I understand how it can be,my brother Barry told me before persevere, never give up ❤
Definitely the best SG song of all time !!! It may be one the best grunge songs of all time !!!! Like you said prove me wrong!!!! I'm with ya on this one man!
Thought I was gonna end myself one day with life's stress today, but sung my lungs out when this song came on, did a huge sigh, and took a step back to look at myself. Thankful for music to pull us from when we're under the fires of life.
It's crazy how many of Chris's songs referenced suicide and death. Instead of talking to someone about his feelings, he chose to write about them. In turn, leaving us with some of the greatest music ever!!! Rest easy friend
I still can't believe this beautiful, talented soul is no longer here anymore! Feels like a close friend has died. Thank you for the amazing 25 years, Chris! Rest easy, friend.
You've touched my heart and soul more than just about any musician on the face of this earth. Today, for the first time in my 23 years on this planet, I cried and wept like a baby over a "celebrity" death.Although you've never known me, I have known and loved you dearly since childhood.RIP Chris
i have been here twice as long and would have said same 23 yrs ago and still in agreement with that now! i just dont think it possible for any other to have such an impact on me. thank you for putting that into words for me.
Cornell and staley are my 2 favourite vocalists of all time,Cornells death was a tough one to take because I thought he would be making great music for years to come.
The signs of Chris' suicide were everywhere, even early on. He mentions on Black Hole Sun about hanging his head, drowning his fears till we all just disappear, plus the songs Blow Up The Outside, and Pretty Noose. I'm sure there are more references. I've been a fan for decades but never listened to his words (he's their main writer) in the context of how he died.
Does it get any better than this? Yes, yes it does, the legend lives on in our hearts, and it makes all that much sweeter. Chris Cornell, one of the greatest voices in rock ever.
The Guitar work is by Kim Thayil, one of the nost gifted Guitarists of Grunge era. Add Matt the drummer, Ben the Bassist & Chris 'the howler' Cornell and u get the best band of 90s
This was my favorite Cornell tune. It's gotten me through some really rough times, and sadly with his death, this is an unfortunately appropriate song. RIP Chris.
This song is gonna be difficult to listen to from now on... Depression is truly an awful thing and it pains me so much that a man so loved and who had so much to live for could see no light at the end of the tunnel... I just wish I could give him a big hug and can't imagine how his family must feel. We have lost a legend but he will never be forgotten. I am so upset... Rest in peace. X
Josefine Lea well said for I know exactly how he felt,as I myself deal with the same battles as he did&then some&have my whole life...sadly,there's not much that we can do to help ourselves with the battles that come from within ourselves,as well as on the outside...all we can do though,is to keep up the good fight and rage against the awful storms that come from within or out,to save ourselves from this beautiful thing we call life, but yet a lot of times,it's very sad&ugly...I pray that this beautiful man's truly at peace now,he was such a talented, sweet, humble&beautiful soul, that only wanted to sing his wonderful music with his phenomenal voice&to truly be loved, the way that he loved, which was wholeheartedly...I myself, don't think that he ever got that...#RIPUSWEETAMAZINGBEAUTIFULMAN #ILLALWAYSLOVEU#UWNBF 😍😔❤️💔✝️🎶🎤🎸🔊
"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked." If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said. RIP, Chris
SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.
I often come back to Soundgarden tracks when I need inspiration to write heavy metal tracks. Chris is such an underrated guitarist, that it's not even funny. The whole band just kicks ass.
Chris has to be one of the best singers too come out of Seattle in this lifetime. It's so sad he had to leave us in such an untimely way. RIP Chris Cornell.
I used to feel so much sadness involved on Soundgarden's songs, they made me reflect a lot. One of the first bands alongside Alice in Chains and Pantera that presented to me, music that I actually enjoyed. I'll be forever grateful for them for that. R.I.P. Chris, you're truly missed.
I agree w poster above. Those 3 bands are 3 of my favorites too and its sad that one of the main forces in all 3 of those bands have lost their lives decades too soon.
I grew up listening to this music and it always brings me back to those years when there was so much to learn and my mind was hungry for anything different. Chris will be missed, always took it to another level.
When I heard that Chris died, I was in the car driving, crying my eyes out. I was devastated. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. RIP to such a humble and fun spirit. Love you 😭❤️
These young men are definitely SLAYER influenced. A good thing! The man playing guitar has half Henneman, half Kerry King. Vocals, sounds superb! Keep rocking young men! You're definitely going to make it. If you men ever come to Iowa, i will certainly check out your awesome music!
This album from the time I heard it is phenomenal. there is not a rock band today who come up with an album this good from start to finish. Its a total masterpiece
Every member in Soundgarden pushes the envelope on their individual instrument/voice. I really think Ben is one of the most underrated bass players in music. Chris has the best male voice in rock.
I dedicate 2021 to Soundgarden. Can't believe it took me till age 26/27 to really get into them. I was (and still am) an Alice in Chains fanboy lol, but for this strange period in my life, SG has just really struck a chord or two. I remember when Chris died a few years ago and I thought "damn, that's a bummer." Now... I very much wish the guy was still around making music.. or just living his own life for that matter.
As a teenager living in 2023, i find it so sad that barely any of the kids my age listen to this amazing music. I feel like the new world of music only revolves around people like Taylor Swift and ice spice but people forget to look back at the masterpeice that is grunge rock. RIP Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Layne Stayley, Andrew Wood, and all of the amazing grunge rockers who have passed away.
its good to know the younger crowd still keep this stuff alive. lol you got me with andrew wood kid so many people even my age have no idea about mother love bone, good on you.
the fact that Chris took his life doesn't now make this song "ironic". It's really the exact opposite of ironic. He always addressed the forces of inner darkness in every song he made - it was that core creative/destructive being that created all that amazing art he has left us with. Pretty Noose isn't ironic of his death, it's an ultimate expression of those incredibly powerful forces, just like his death was.
Go soundgarden. Thank you for your appreciation of unique gifts. Have you ever suffered from unique gift s. Felt underappreciated and hung from your unique gifts!!!! Soundgarden saved me from this lack of appreciation in my Life. All i can say is thank you 🙏.
Wow that is one the best Rock song I heard in February 1996 and Chris Cornell and the Sound Garden are the King of Hard Rocks of all time yeee haaa yeah baby let’s Rock and Roll🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🏵🥇🌈👍🤩⭐️🏆🎸
RIP Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland. You guys created one of the greatest genres of music and I'll always be listening. Thank you.

be yourself is all that you can do, said by the man himself, cornell..
Well spoken.. Really opens your eyes to the beauties this world has to offer.

To say he was talented is an extreme understatement. The man was phenomenally talented!
El mismo talento que lo llevó a la muerte.
He had brilliant voicings in his head... pay attention to all the odd but beautiful harmonies he sings through out

Matt Cameron really shines when he's playing with Soundgarden. When he's playing with Pearl Jam not really. He deserves more credit than what he currently gets.
He belongs in Soundgarden, that's his sound completely. With Pearl jam he sounds like Pearl jam, an it's still tight, but I feel like Soundgarden is more him, he shines through better with them an it's his o.g band.
I also love how he rocks a turtleneck in this clip. Nothing to prove, he's got this.

He hand more say in Soundgarden. Eddie took control of Pearl Jam by their third album.

The bass line in this song gets me every time and this is why Soundgarden is the best. Four master musicians.

I agree great
The bass is a major part to Soundgarden music...
@@Lukather1979 I agree like the guitar to

Many people may see this song as a premonition of what happened. But I see it as him finding strength in a situation and telling the person who defined him in that moment that he was done with their control over him. This song is him showing strength in the best way he could.
I agree great singer and guitar, I remember in90s
You speak well. Glad someone on the internet does.👍
Agreed, and the instrumentals back that up 1000%.
This song is not about suicide ,it's about a controlling woman
Last time I was in Detroit I didn't hang myself.
right now I've pretty much moved past the grief stage and now I'm just loving what he gave us
Short Tom Am still in the grief stage, added w/the ANGER stage...he was murdered
Im getting there but its still hard.
Brandon Duncan me too
Short Tom What THEY gave us too. Soundgarden passed away too.
My girl
This is one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks. Sounds still so refreshing compared to much of current rock music. Soundgarden were one of the most sophisticated grunge era bands with their chord structures. Their chord structures are just so fucking cool especially on songs like this. And I've always loved Matt Cameron's drumming, a very essential part of the Soundgarden sound just like Dave Grohl was for Nirvana. They are both drummers who's playing draws ones attention unlike many other drummers.
This song hits harder now that you are gone....
Fo real. This song has such a hard tribal beat to it.
Yeah it kind of colors this particular song much differently than before.
I FEEL THE SAME JOHNATHAN OMG LOVE YOUR COMMENT INCREDIBLE THANKS LORETTA
@@toocoolfortheroom380 I FEEL YOU TO COOL FOR THE ROOM HAPPY NEW YEAR'S
Chris, thank you for making my life a little more bearable. R.I.P. 1964-2017
Best vocalist and beautiful man ever!! Miss you Chris!
Saw them at reading festival in 1995. Didn't realize it then but how lucky was I to see them. Great singer, great band, great time to be alive. RIP Chris.
You were super lucky to have seen the only live performance of "Kristi"
I was there as well, saw some epic bands at Reading Festival including Foo Fighters
so many cool bands during my teenage years. soungarden was just one of them. each week each month you hear new cool bands on mtv... in my view 90's was the golden age of rock music.
Golden age of any music. These punks today don't even put in the work. Its a shame Taylor Swift and Cardi B go harder than all make groups
Christopher Turney these guys are pretty awesome. ua-cam.com/video/L6jWaF6dTM0/v-deo.html
@@thatsamazin- saved gonna listen later
Christopher Turney cool! Someone told me about them on UA-cam this year and they are insane. All of their KEXP stuff is incredible. Def check out “crumbling castle” too! 🤟🏻
Rest In Peace... this one hurts. Bad.
cant believe this shit. this guy meant so much for some reason. the music is a part of me.
I know...I don't know why this is hurting so much
Amanda Hindes you don't know why? seriously?
I don't know why... what? I don't get it....
Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy...
There will never be another like Chris. His voice alone was in a league of its own
Cornell’s voice literally doesn’t make any since. No one sounds like him.
One of the craziest voices around. His range was off the charts. How tf he could stay in that high octave range for the majority of some songs without destroying his vocal cords is insane. Chris was definitely built different. Not to mention being an amazing songwriter. Huge loss 😢
His voice is a piercing arrow of fire.
these guys were so far beyond all of their peers. light years ahead.
this is actually one of my favorite sound garden songs. amazing.
Chris Cornell was one of the most beautiful men on this earth and one of the most awesome vocalists ever!!!! I wish you were still here. You still should be here.
They got him
90's rock the best decade of my teenage life.....
I too had a teenage life that was longer than 7 years
+Crabmaster lmao
Pretty much like my world today (minus MTV...RIP), but it was all fresh and new and exciting back then.
there is less than one decade in any teens life , seven years to be exact. 13-19
✌ y'all!!!
Sound Garden a awesome group, Chris Cornell awesome Singer sad he passed away was near my age may Chris Cornell RIP 💐 I'm glad you made it to 48,I'm 57 I understand how it can be,my brother Barry told me before persevere, never give up ❤
This is real music. Real in terms it blows todays garbage away.
👍👍👍
So right man. Keep the radio off and keep Chris on!
😉
4 star hero fuck yeah!!! Middle school days!!! 👍🏽
Joshua Epperson 👍🏽👍🏽
Wow, what a voice, what a band. This is real music.

Definitely the best SG song of all time !!! It may be one the best grunge songs of all time !!!! Like you said prove me wrong!!!! I'm with ya on this one man!
The day I tried to live
Thought I was gonna end myself one day with life's stress today, but sung my lungs out when this song came on, did a huge sigh, and took a step back to look at myself. Thankful for music to pull us from when we're under the fires of life.
I know that
I know that
I know that
He was one of the best singers in the world
What a force Soundgarden were - the thinking man's heavy rock band
It's crazy how many of Chris's songs referenced suicide and death. Instead of talking to someone about his feelings, he chose to write about them. In turn, leaving us with some of the greatest music ever!!! Rest easy friend
Same as Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit...
chris didnt kill himself. There was blood on his hotel bathroom and he has no lacerations on this body.
@@bewgsy6892 according to the police report, he had blood in his mouth (not uncommon for hangings). So you're wrong.
Just think about how long he would have been suffering though
Feel for him. I felt he wouldn’t go down this route, so very sad to learn he had the same issues as so many others.
I still can't believe this beautiful, talented soul is no longer here anymore! Feels like a close friend has died. Thank you for the amazing 25 years, Chris! Rest easy, friend.
PianoGirl también siento como que mi mejor amigo se fue, aún sigo con tristeza 😥
We should be fortunate that men like chris existed who sang their hearts out! No fake ass pop sh*t. Just genuine music echoing straight from the soul.
Que banda poderosa era Soundgarden, Cornell era un monstruo.
He would have loved to have heard this maybe he did
Matt Cameron is one of the best drummers ever.
Best grunge band drummer hall of fame
I’m not saying he isn’t but people literally say that about every bands drummer on UA-cam videos
@@DrunkenSlob and they're wrong. its Matt Cameron
Cameron and Lars from Metallica!
Jason Compau lol idk if this is sarcastic or not but did you hear St. Anger
Funfact, the song Pretty Noose is actually about a destructive relationship! However it's pretty damn ironic thats it's called Pretty Noose.
Cornell is has an amazing voice one of the greats of all time
Hey look guys, no auto tune; this is how music is supposed to be. Talent.
Kinda ironic 'cause Cornell used autotune in a song once
Jacob Sellner More than once. He shouldn't have collaborated with Timbaland. That album sucked.
if you think there's no "studio magic" on this, you're fuckin trippin
nathan richardson Would you kindly elaborate, J. Todd style, 'studio magic'?
Fukin right
Does it get any better than this?
Yes, yes it does, the legend lives on in our hearts, and it makes all that much sweeter.
Chris Cornell, one of the greatest voices in rock ever.
The Guitar work is by Kim Thayil, one of the nost gifted Guitarists of Grunge era. Add Matt the drummer, Ben the Bassist & Chris 'the howler' Cornell and u get the best band of 90s
khaadkoo✨❤️♥️❤️✨🎸🎤🎸🎧🙌🏻
Kim cant play a solo to save his life though. I'd say Cantrell is the best guitarrist of the grunge era.
please explain, from what individual perspective are you taking this from....srv...
OcelotDAD you can't say one is better than the other. their styles are so different.
@@OcelotDAD mccready is better, matt is def the best drummer of that era
One of the best prog metal vocalist and band-never will be replicated. RIP Chris
This was my favorite Cornell tune. It's gotten me through some really rough times, and sadly with his death, this is an unfortunately appropriate song. RIP Chris.
This, Burden In My Hand, Blow Up the Outside World, and The Day I Tried to Live are my favorites.
I agree mine to
Ben Shepherd is a seriously underrated bass player.
Very creative punk rock recklessness with the wisdom of a seasoned bassist.
Well put sir
the chording🥰
Yea, for sure
Josefine Nylander If only he checked his bank account more often.
MindofScarecrow money don't mean shit to a real man...there are things in this world even money can't satify.
Try not having any.
"'Fell on Black Days' was like this ongoing fear I've had for years ... It's a feeling that everyone gets. You're happy with your life, everything's going well, things are exciting-when all of a sudden you realize you're unhappy in the extreme, to the point of being really, really scared. There's no particular event you can pin the feeling down to, it's just that you realize one day that everything in your life is fucked."
If you've seen "The End of the Tour" you will find that these words are stunningly similar to things that David Foster Wallace (who also hanged himself) said.
First tape ever I bought. First band shirt I ever owned. One of my biggest inspirations rest in peace brother. Your work will not be forgotten.
I often come back to Soundgarden tracks when I need inspiration to write heavy metal tracks. Chris is such an underrated guitarist, that it's not even funny. The whole band just kicks ass.
genius...just perfect...the drums, the guitars...the vocals...the bass....just awesome!!
The best band with great riffs awesome bass and a enigmatic vocalist on a mission.
Every member in Soundgarden pushes the envelope on their individual instrument/voice.
I really think Ben is one of the most underrated bass players in music.
Chris has the best male voice in rock.
The first concert I ever saw was Siundgarden with Metallica in 1996. I was 14. It was the most epic day of my life.
That sounds like fun, my mom saw Metallica back in '86
Darn vocals... guitar rifts... supersonic bass line and pounding drums... boy I miss my youth... nothing beats the 90's
R.I.P. Chris Cornell........... Pure Talent, Pioneer and Truly one of the Best voices of your Generation.... thank you
I dedicate 2021 to Soundgarden.
" I got the perfect steal, Clean enough with a dirty feel! ALRIGHT!"...one of the BEST Grunge lyrics EVER!..miss you Chris, baby.
Eminem is great, it's Taylor Swift that's the outlier. My god, she's so OVERRATED!!!!
@@mindriot91_96 yea, I was trying to make a reference to popular artist now but I couldn't think of any. I changed it to ice spice
its good to know the younger crowd still keep this stuff alive. lol you got me with andrew wood kid so many people even my age have no idea about mother love bone, good on you.
Fr I'm a teenager too and I love soundgarden! People these days have no true music taste!!! I hate Taylor swift

I love you
Best era of music ever in my opinion...
I’m so grateful to have discovered this song I’m surprised it took me so long to find this gem. Love this era of music. Nothing else like it. ♡♥♡♥♡
the fact that Chris took his life doesn't now make this song "ironic".
Well put man, 1000% correct
There was a soundclip of this song on Encyclopedia Encarta 98 under the entry "Hard Rock"...
😌😏
Before Wikipedia even existed.🤣🤣
Encyclopedia Encarta 98. Wow. Totally forgot about that 👍🏻😁 They apparently knew good music even though I wouldn’t call it “hard rock.” 🤘😁
This song brings me back to my teenage years. The early formation of my musical tastes. I still love it. Chris Cornell's voice wails.
Go soundgarden. Thank you for your appreciation of unique gifts. Have you ever suffered from unique gift s. Felt underappreciated and hung from your unique gifts!!!! Soundgarden saved me from this lack of appreciation in my Life. All i can say is thank you 🙏.
One man, spilling over with talent, and sharing it everywhere he went. Incredible. The world is better for having had him in it.
the lead guitarist and that fucking voice is the best ever period, especially out of Seattle! !!!!!
Drummer too. Heck, even the bassist kicks ass all the time in this band.
Man, even 20 years later, this song just cranks me up. I miss Chris.......RIP
