My own music teacher was his generational peer, and she used to play things for me to give me the sense of what they should be as MUSIC, not just the notes from the page... it brought me to tears to see Herr Moll doing the same thing for his student... it still does... and when I teach, I do the same thing ... no one can fill such shoes, but it is enough to pass on the legacy of love and music as best one can!
I had the great honor of singing Parsifal to Herr Moll's Gurnemanz for 10 straight years in Munich. To be on stage and hear/watch this master was like nothing else I ever experienced in my career. Like a voice lesson on stage every night!!! Such beautiful memories of days gone by!
I can’t believe no one cares about this post of yours. How incredible that must have been to sing Parsifal with him! The moment of Parsifal’s enlightenment before the Good Friday Music omg Moll sings that line so amazingly. I can’t imagine how it felt sitting right in front of him as he went up to that beautiful F natural!!!! He’s the greatest Bass ever in my opinion and certainly one of the most technically perfect singers ever.
@@xTwistedFleshX I miss him every day! Such a kind man with a gentle soul. Speaking of his ability to sing high notes effortlessly, he gave me lessons on the role of Parsifal and sang some of the lines better than I could have ever dreamed of being able to. It must be what a "good" basketball player felt like when they matched up with Michael Jordan. Sometimes greatness just needs to be admired and one has to count their blessing for being able to witness it close up.
Herr Moll was as great a teacher as he was a singer ... this brings tears to my eyes, because I had a great piano teacher, and the love imparted to me that brought the artist out of me that I am today, all around, is what I see Herr Moll giving to this student ... this is what changes a young person's ENTIRE LIFE for the better, no matter what way they go. It is one gift to be the greatest at what you do in your time. It is another gift to bring the greatness out of others, and that gift is more rare. I would have gladly watched this for 80 minutes, to say nothing of (just short of) 8 minutes, for Herr Moll had it ALL ... and both his singing and teaching are STILL inspiring others.
"rausch die shone waldeinsamkeit"- he makes that phrase sound so damn easy, haha. This is one of the most useful videos I've ever seen for breathing and placement and phrasing, even as a soprano.
Kurt Moll was so great. My only criticism of him was: he had no ability to sound crude, savage, or nasty. He always sounded like a super-genius with a warm, friendly personality. This was a flaw when he sang Fafner, Hunding, and even Osmin--he was never SCARY. Even as Commendatore he was sympathetic, not fearsome. The only time I was ever afraid of him was when he sang Monterone in RIGOLETTO. It's nice that he was big and able to do opera and collect the big pay-checks, but if you listen to his lieder, you can see, he's really a lieder-singer at heart. If you haven't heard his "Lieder fur Bass" by Schubert, with Cord Garben playing piano, go listen to it now. Another gorgeous golden-voice noble-bass was Hans Sotin. Look him up if you don't know him.

The most beautiful bass voice ever! I had tickets to see him sing Gurnemanz in San Francisco in 2000, but sadly my mother had a stroke and I had to cancel my trip.
As a singer, my interpretation of what Moll is trying to get across here is the feeling of support which is needed to switch into the upper part of the voice. This is a D, and certainly for Moll is a note which is, at least partially, "covered." This isn't something I've actually encountered, but I have heard from research and other singers that the German school of singing advocates for a type of expansion (some might say pushing out) of the supporting muscles in situations like this.
I agree ... my voice teacher used to have us feel those muscles doing that support work, and my choir teacher would pull up his shirt and show us the muscles at work... he didn't have sopranos that year, and he knew my voice teacher's level of work with me ... so I'm billed contralto, and sung soprano all semester without lasting damage ... what Herr Moll is teaching here works in the field!

Hello, can you translate some tips from Mr Moll to that baritone singer, especially for "Hor Ich Das Liedchen Klingen" on English (or Russian). Magnificent voices, Kurt Moll is one of my favorite vocalists. That student is very good also, I would like to know his name, wonderful singing.
moll is on a completly different level than zlatopolsky. zlatopolsky had an insane range of an c1 to c5 but he didnt have the technic or the amazing resonance that herr moll had.
@@noah-qq9of nope nope nope. XD I know Zlatopolsky's range was impressive but im sure he wasnt able to hit C5 haha. In one of don kosaken recordings you can hear his voice dropped to A0 and it was really loud so I think he could go even lower but im sure he couldnt go to C5. Except falsetto of course. I know that zlatopolsky was technically much worse than kurt moll but both singers had incerdible ranges and it would be amazong to hear them together. Zlatopolsky just had a wide range as a gift from God. I believe that Kurt Moll was technically the best bass in history so i dont compare them. One guy has an astonishing voice but the second one sings everything in the most beautiful way I ever heard.

He certainly was great at that role. But I'd rather hear him sing lieder than any opera. So you can hear his soft notes and his diction.

I absolutely admire Kurt Moll and agree with you. He has sung very little the role of Hagen and much that of Gurnemanz.
