My head canon is this movie is just a story made up by Ghost's delusional, disturbed mind.
+pjsmith97 Would love that to be the case like at the end its a fade to black and then fade in to ghost finishing one of her comic books she makes with the cover looking like a cartoonier version of the movie poster
Oooo, that's a good one. I like that
The rest of us call it fan fiction.
I saw this movie before seeing the other two and have always thought of it simply as a remake/reimagining of the first. This idea tying it to part 2 is the best I've heard.
My idea to make this movie good: Bridget and Ginger started the werewolf outbreak, instead of just getting infected by an already existing one. That would have made the prophesy that they would curse the land make sense.
The Leeches might be a throwback to the first movie aswell, when Brigitte was looking for a cure for Ginger and she stated that.
The scene with the line "Forgive me father for I have sinned" is just badass.
Was this movie trying to say that Ginger and Bridget's bloodline was forever cursed or doomed? That the modern day sisters were destined to become werewolves too? Maybe I'm missing something. I like this movie somewhat but it's too cryptic and confusing.
yeah thats the intention something to do with fate and destiny and all that nonsense, frankly over complicating the whole story.
Also the leeches thing was mentioned in the first Ginger Snaps movie. Nice reference.
Super Indian is tremendous. And, since this is a Canadian production, man...if you were a Canadian kid who watched Heritage Minutes growing up? Canadian history is just natives saving our butts over and over again.
You want to talk confusing, the first time watching this series was a SciFi channel marathon and for some reason they played the movies out of order where I only saw the 3rd followed by the 2nd and completely missed the first leading to me thinking that the sisters had been alive for hundreds of years and leaving me totally confused when I talked with a friend of mine about the series later. Because with out the context from the first movie the plot of the 3rd makes more sense but leaves new fans confused if they don't know about all of the movies or the correct order of them.
Honestly I would have liked a proper sequel that continued Ghosts story even if Katheren and Emily werent in it.
Same!! I really need continuation of Ghosts story. 😭💔
There are plenty of fanfics showing a new storyline after Unleashed showing a better fate for Brigitte and a demise for Ghost.
Not only was this movie filmed at Ford Edmonton Park in my hometown of Edmonton but I worked as a “scare actor” for the Halloween haunted house there where I was a werewolf strapped to gurney
that’s really interesting was it a reference to the ginger snaps franchise ? or just a coincidence ?
Deusdaecon Reviews not sure. All I know is the costumes and the props looked almost identical to the ones in the movie
The fort setting reminded me of Ravenous - which you should review!!!
it really feels like they wanted to use "Ginger Snaps Back" and "Ginger Snaps the Beginning" for two different movies, but something caused them to use both names for one movie.
Maybe the back part implies that the sisters are back together
@@el-kiote I always saw it as a reference to time, like going back in time, but idk.
Reincarnation or descendentry. Also, Ginger is a red head, she would be considered a Witch. That mix the Indian put on Bridgette's leg, most likely was supposed to be a blend of yarrow, willow bark, and thyme, these help with inflammation, blood clotting, and healing.
I feel like this was catered fan fiction. Even the ending with them both becoming werewolves and not dying proves that.
This is actually my favorite of the three. Thanks for suffering through it for us lol
Also, history is littered with the corpses of "stay the course" pioneer idiots, so the captain's stupidity while his men decompensate around him is pretty par for the course
The 3rd film should of been about Ghost losing her mind and getting what she deserved. And someone looks for a cure for Brigitte while another person hunts her.
Papi F Or Ginger somehow coming back, ripping Ghost's head off, saving Bridget, both of them eventually go to both their old high school and mental hospital to infect everyone. Creating the biggest wolf pack ever.
I could easily see the third movie sequel (not the prequel one we got) as either taking us with Ghost and her continuing story with Bridgette, or some else that might come across either Ghost or Bridgette, or someone else entirely that never meets Ghost or Bridgitte, with a story told of their own but set in the same Ginger Snaps universe, with some references to people or events from the first or second movie, hell even the prequel. There were so many places that they could have gone. AND NOTHING HAPPENED. That is the worst part of it all. To make it worse, I don't want them to attempt to do anything with it now, because modern story lines sucks like never before.
Something tells me that the werewolves in the Ginger Snaps universe doesn't play well with others. These ones of the fort probably only did because it was the closest food source in the wilderness.
@@sigmacademy I'm pretty sure Bridgette ate Ghost eventually, not exactly a domesticated pet.
the funny thing is ginger and Brigette both played on another cinderella story with selena gomez they also played sisters I believe
yes indeed and they clearly knew the film was shite cause theyre performance is both hilarious and incredibly cringe inducing.
+Deusdaecon Reviews yes ik lol
+Deusdaecon Reviews you know what would be funny you could do an April fools video and review another cinderella story as if it was a ginger snaps movie
naaaaaaaah that would just be ridiculous *quietly makes note for next April*
+Deusdaecon Reviews lol
24:27. The Indian guy saves the sisters most of the time, yet fails to save the Grandmother? That's poor character consistency/plot convenience? XD XD XD
04:43. Fort commander is the same actor as the lawyer in 13 Ghosts. Also, played in some Stargate SG-1 later seasons episodes.
He has a tendency to play douchebags. He was also in a tv movie with a young Jennifer garner called aftershock:earthquake in new York and played a douchebag who was accused of killing his wife because she was sick. At first it seemed he was either innocent or did it to spare her pain but eventually it turns out he did it because she was a burden.
This was actually my favourite...I loved the atmosphere at the fort...
Also would be a great double feature with Ravenous
I have ideas for what a fourth movie could have been like including the headcanon that the reason Ginger and Bridgette were in this movie was because of like... reincarnation being the curse. That maybe they had to relive the scenario in another life to see if they could get it right. The fourth movie would include the lycanthrope lore and we'd actually get to see Bridgette living as the wolf.
still waiting for ginger snaps back to the future
I love this move i no its not that great but still i love it just like I loved the other ginger snap movies
3:51 Hey cool, didn’t know Conner Kenway was in this
The leeches are kind of a callback to the 1st movie. Sam mentions that the actually can be useful.
Thanks for posting this.
I guess there was once a trend to do pre-sequels in the 19th century. I feel your pain.
I really liked the first two movies and I think I watched the third movie just one time. I never even bothered to buy it. Sadly it was the death of the series a real sequel would have been way more appreciated.
If you mean prequels that made no sense when compared to original movies... yeah, that still is a thing. XD
But this film isn't from the 19th century
@@wireboar7321 Ah yes, very classy semantic take from you.
They did similar prequel-sequels like with Tremors and with Underworld. But I much prefer Rise of the Lycans to Tremors 4: The Beginning. Also, with regards to Underworld, should they make another movie, make a prequel around the Corvinus family. Like with Alexander discovering his family's immortality to the plague, his sons inheriting said immortality, and then their eventual change into the split vampire/lycan bloodlines.
4:24 - 4:43 That's the d-bag who got split in half by the glass doors in 13 Ghosts.
The man playing the priest is actually a rock star.
*Canadian rock star, which doesn't amount too much abroad apart from Nickelback (barf), Neil Young, Byran Adams or Rush.
Fun fact: "pulling" was slang for getting some in the 1800`s..
Now someone come reattach my head because I facepalmed so hard I sent my head through a wall..
Fun fact: "pulling" is slang for getting some today
Part 3 should have been how we see ghost get killed that would have been so satisfying
I think the writer must of watch brotherhood of the wolf way too many times and felt they should set the third film in the 1800's and a prequel
Yeah, they must *HAVE*.
Lol love your reviews very entertaining keep them coming
Love this movie its ginger snaps meets Canadian heritage moment
Neat, you finally got it up
"That's what she said"!
Ginger went Sith so fast Super Indian never saw it coming.
I like the premise it just needed a better story and not to be a ginger snaps movie
I love this movie but we are left with unanswered questions what happened to Bridgette & Gingers parents? Where did the werewolves parents come from? What happens to the sisters after the fort was burned down & everyone else was killed? Seeing the sisters throughout the centuries until we get to Bridgette & Ginger of the 21st centuries. So many questions.
Me too. I've never seen 'Unleashed' except for this guy's review and from that it doesn't look too impressive. Whereas I rather like the mystical take on this story. I've never seen the 'it's a virus' approach to the classical monsters as a particularly effective explanation and there's room for a supernatural explanation if you consider Bridget's haunting by Ginger in the second movie and the fact that wolfsbane doesn't really work. I don't see this so much as a prequel but as a retelling, which suggests a continuing story cycle linked to the werewolf legend that has to keep repeating itself until the two sisters get it right and end the curse. The fact that it's open ended leaves room for the imagination to create possibilities. The problem with critics is that they don't seem to get suspension of disbelief, while most people don't go into a story to pick holes in it but to be entertained.
Yeah or possibly let one of the sisters (most likely Bridgette) and the Indian man live and leave the fort together, giving a reasonable explanation of why the same actresses were used in this, they were descendants of these two girls
Been waitin'.
Get it right! Super Native American!
Speaking of Katherine, have you seen American Mary? That movie honestly disturbed me.
Super indian, YEEEAAAAAAAAAH!. It kills me everytime XD
Need help in woods, looks for person to help, find woodsman , brutally attack him lol.
#superindian "Awyeeeeeeeaaaaahhh!!!!"
😆 "Super Indian". Lol.
*super indian*
Similar to how the other title Ginger Snaps tells us that Ginger as a character goes crazy this one tells us Ginger Snaps Back as in she's Snaps back to her regular self or Snaps out of it since it's a prequel so she's not a werewolf yet even tho this is her ancestor and not actually Ginger from the other 2 at least that's how I interpreted it.
Still makes no sense. If their ancestors had lycan blood, they would have turned into werewolves before any of them got infected in the first movie. There would have been no reason to have Ginger bitten to turn into werewolf, and Bridgitte would have turned into one as well, without the need to infect herself with Ginger's blood.
I loved this movie, it was good
@ 5:25 I always thought they were lying and making sure they were on the same page as the lie.
I liked this movie, but I think a large part of that is that I saw this one first. I hadn't seen the other two at all, or heard of them. So I didn't notice, and so wasn't bothered by, the inconsistencies with the rest of the series
After watching the witch and the lighthouse, I have lost all tolerance for period pieces inundated with Modern Cali accents. “You’re priest totally tried ta Kyall us.” My response to her would be “what priest? We’re American soldiers in the 1800s, we hate Catholics…also why are we all using contractions so much?”
I finally see this movie in any form
Hey, @Deusdaecon, speaking of werewolf movies, and given that it's the 30th for it, would you consider reviewing Wolf (1994) with Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, and James Spader, which also had an interesting take on the werewolf transformation?
Using the same actors and actresses from the first movie? Someone's taken a leaf from Dan Curtis' Dark Shadows playbook.
"By far my best work" Lol typo
When you slowly realise it's a Canadian made movie...
Ryn Don all of them are
👉🏼👈🏼 I actually like this one the most but agree about the poorly written characters
Edit: I did take this movie as a separate lore than the other movies so that may be also y I can forgive it
The leeches turning into werewolves was rather stupid indeed. I thought it would just be the leeches refusing to bite or something like that 😐
That’s Fort fucking Edmonton that place was probably 5 of my class field trips.
If they never go back into human form after they become a werewolf how did Ginger and Bridget's bloodline make it all the way to modern times
I think they were working on a reincarnation and destiny idea rather than a genetic one, but I think this movie was just a complete wild card with not much actual logic behind it anyway.
What’s wrong with being a Super Indian I am a Super Native
What the reviewer is trying to say is that the character being portrayed is overly dramatized and ludicrous in his ability to always appear at the right time to save the right person in the right situation. It is almost plot convenience, in so far as trying to create a reality where very little makes sense but it has to so that the story can progress. Good storytelling and accurate characterization sets up characters with realistic roles, strengths and/or weaknesses. The roles/ strengths are used to explain their inclusion in the story and the weaknesses allows them as characters to grow or gives the storyteller a way to "off" the character, depending on what the story requires from said characters.
For example, the Indian hunter is portrayed as a proficient hunter that can kill several werewolves in the final big fight, but he is unable to save his camp and people. He is also unable to save Grandmother, when he knew people around her was infected by only one turning werewolf. The realistic thing would have been to keep an eye and guard Grandmother and not leave her alone with the sisters. Like the reviewer indicated, the character's behaviors (with the exception of the preacher and the douchebag) were all over the place, and which made following the movie feel like a chore and not a viewing experience. The fact that it was rather slow in places and made some of the most interesting things happen off-screen, didn't help any. I could compare this movie to the film "Ravenous" about cannibalism in a fort after suffering starvation, which although it was no masterpiece, was way more believable than this movie.
What’s that opening song called???
i lost my shit at super indian when she konked him xD .
I think the reason why the priest was made out to be the bigger bad, was also because of who got cast. Hugh Dillon plays the priest, and he's a way bigger name in Canadian culture than JR Bourne (who plays the douchebag lawyer in 13 Ghosts).
Very VERY flawed but still my favourite of the trilogy....
Wow. The Ginger Snaps franchise went downhill
Is that douchebag the former Cade Foster, the alien hunter/apocalypse averter who had the prophecies of Nostradamus to guide him? Forgot the series name but the aliens were called Gwa
Would it be better if we watched this movie first, and then the first film second?
No not really there’s not really any connection or continuity between the two films, unless you need to bring in the idea of fate and destiny into a movie that’s prides itself on being a more logical and scientific minded film
Man, Super Indian backed the wrong horse.
6:20 Now hold on, this is the only Ginger Snaps movie I've ever watched. It was the only thing on TV or something; it was like 8 years ago so the details are a bit hazy
We're just going to ignore how it's set in the regency era but they dress like it's the dark ages? no okie dokie then. But still , corslette on the outside , exposed neck during the day , not a single curl in sight , the fucking khakis , flat shoulders without padding , their underwear is sewed in (Oh yeah and nobody really started wearing underwear until atleast the 1820's) , elastic necklines , and finally ... their hair is either down or not in a bonnet. I bet I can find their dresses on Ebay
What is that "THat's convenient" clip from?
ginger snaps 2: unleashed
Deusdaecon Reviews thanks
I'm sorry this has nothing to do with your review to begin with but why did they make a new Borat movie where the entire idea is "He doesnt know what covid is"?
Edit: oh right I remember my original comment. Why does every movie have a fire and brimstone preacher? Like seriously especially when you have a morale problem :/
In case no one mentioned it before - and I know I'm years late to the party here - but Ginger "Snaps Back" is someone trying to be funny/witty or cool with lingo/slang. It doesn't land, but I'm reasonably sure that was the intent. It's muddled by the subtitle of the beginning for sure. Actually they could have just left it as Ginger Snaps Back, since the 2nd was Ginger Snaps Unleashed and it might've gone over better. They didn't do that, so we'll never know. (I equated snaps back being a hipster 90's thing the clique's did to show attitude OR a comparative term like unto the song referential "Holla Back Girl" by Gwen Stefani. Snap Back = Holla Back. Then again, I'm not that popular so I could be entirely wrong. If they'd simply left it as Ginger Snaps Back it could have been tangentially linked to Eminem, but far less people might've seen that musical reference I imagine. (Shady's Back; Back Again... etc) Still would've been Korny. ; )
He’s not a super Indian what he does is what soldiers do today tactical strategy and because we based our combat off of them specially Native Americans
Where's the 3rd movie
I don't understand the question
Idk why i thought this movie was about
A killer ginger breadman
We have the gingerdead man for that
21:26 was that a pun
Bridgette kills Indian
Me: WHAT????
This is the third video you've made on the Ginger Snaps films and you're *STILL* saying Katherine "Isabella"...? There is no 'a' on the end, it's Isabelle. IS-A-BELL.
Thanks for the lengthy and amusing reviews though, the first GS film is one of my favourites, I really like the second and the third instalment I found very disappointing and like to pretend it just never happened. I'm glad you cover some older, less-known, cult / indie classics and not just films that win a ton of Golden Globes and are shoved down our throats, crap like Gravity or the Paranormal Activity series a.k.a Sandra Bullocks endless ramblings in dizzy CGI space and pretend found footage of doors opening and closing by themselves.
Im glad you enjoyed the video and yeah the thing about getting the name wrong is because all three were pretty much filmed at the same time for the most part, once I had finished I was like "dahhhh fuuck!"
Lolz
*super native american*
How I would've done this film-
Enter the same town from the first film, set somewhere between the first and second film, we cut between shots of Jason(the guy who got infected in the first movie) killing people, transforming , and showing up in front of B and Ginger's house. Ginger(when she's a werewolf) walks out of the van and runs out while Jason jumps in the van to rest. So it's revealed the werewolf in the climax wasn't ginger but Jason. And it was Jason who B stabbed in the heart. Flash forward to the end of the second film. Ghost is now a full grown adult who lures people into her house to feed them to B. Until one day B infects Ghost by attacking her. Ginger shows up at the house and kills Ghost mid transformation. They breed a new pack at their old high school, infect another social outcast and it's up to that outcast whether or not he/she will help the pack or help her friends.
Kevin Bacon
Makes no sense as Jason was turned back into a human permanently
Venitus Safeplace Yes but its explained in GS unleashed the cure is only temporary. So unless Jason somehow figured out how wolfsbane is the cure and that you have to take it everyday, starts taking it everyday. Yeah now he’s a werewolf.
@@kevinbacon5492 while still infected he did revert back to normal after the injection so it's highly unlikely that he was able to be completely transformed later that day, Ginger was infected far longer than the guy was and it took that long for her transformation to be finalized.
I know most people dislike this movie, but I enjoy the quasi Hammer vibe and even the corny douchebag characters....
I totally disagree wih you. This was my favourite of the three.
well fortunately i wasnt trying to convince you to dislike it, just telling you why i do.
@@deusdeaconReviews Absolutely. We all have an opinion. I respect yours too.
Not with you on this one. This is a B movie about a group of terrified people in the woods. Meant to show how their family line came into touch with the werewolves. I.e. not everyone died in the boat accident and some went on to have a pair of daughters similar to the original two. But since this is a low budget B movie,........
right so you're saying its forgiven because it poorly answers a question that neither needed to be asked, nor was even conceived as being something that would be asked in the first place ?
Not exactly as there isn't a way to quantify the need for teenage werewolf movies nor would I know if that question had ever been asked by anyone outside of my circle. It would also open the door as to why the first two were made but could be explained as consumer demand vs cost of product. More accurately I would say you are missing the forest from the trees overcritizing elements that have simple explanations and watching with odd expectations considering the first two movies. True the native american subplot wasn't done very well, but neither did getting imprisioned by the clinic in the previous and both movies were filmed at the same time so it was likely a rushed editing and reshoot. The prophecy is the only major flaw with this movie, but I can see where they were going with it. Also there were no rules per say, they did some sloppy experimentation in the first and second movie, but came out with questionable conclusions and admitted by the second movie they were wrong about key details. So far they are pretty sure it's a virus, and it seems that the wolves can easily be killed, but it's not like anyone stuck around long after the first movie to confirm anything. For all we know the wolf hit in the first movie healed and was the wolf in the second movie, or a combination of Ginger and the wolf. Probably not as I remember it going splat, but I'd have to see the movie again.
Personally I don't think that they were referring to the native son of the commander. I think it was intended on being vague and murky pointing the direction possibly at the son. But as stated the son bit her too quickly for anything to be done about it. The seer had said that she had a sister once and tells her kill the boy or one sister will kill the other. Prophesies are notoriously vague and never play out like people expect, they spoofed this on Hellboy Sword of Storms when he complained of psychics never giving useful information. She never says they will both live happily, just if she doesn't kill the boy one sister will kill the other. Under pressure Brigitte kills the native and chooses her sister over fighting the menace and forgetting the rest of the world similar to the first movie making the curse stronger which is either referencing the lycanthropy or the werewolf clan. Trying to kill the son just drove everything to a messier conclusion. That would make it funny as it could have been resolved with a simple change in dialogue. But unless the writers are available for questioning it is just a guess.
You could say the exact same things about sequels (like Pacific Rim: Uprising) as well. Take the Blair Witch (3rd movie) - it's about UFOs, for heck sake? You see the Witch at least 2 or 3 times (for a second) and it looks like a UFO creature?
I thought the same thing, as werewolves have a regenerative capability, but that werewolf in the first movie got road killed good (these werewolves are not overly big creatures, so that first werewolf got smashed and destroyed, and we did not hear anything about it again in the first movie). It would therefore be safe to assume the first movie werewolf is pretty much dead, as organs and other guts were lying scattered in the street. The werewolf could only regenerate if it was still living. At this moment I am more likely to believe it was someone that Ginger infected off-screen in the first film, or the better explanation is that there is other werewolves out there, and because of heightened senses, one werewolf can smell another if they pass within a specific distance from each other.
It’s Native Americans... We’re not Indians were not from India
Begone SJW! The power of Don't Give a F*** compels you!
disclaimer card: "but this is by far my best work"
Given the context, I rather suspect that was supposed to say "far from my best work". As is, it's kinda counterproductive.
you are correct, the disclaimer kinda proving my point
The movies got so much questionable shit lol but I fucking loved this movie it's my fave in the series
