I love the image of George Romero struggling to play RE1 and getting confused before saying "fuck it! You play this" to his secretary and throwing them the controller.
One of the most impactant issues about Romero's vision in the Night of the living dead is the naturality the zombies have, they are not gray and totally rotten.
I mean in due fairness they were just living dead, barely separating from voodoo’s or mummy movies (and cannibalistic at that), but they also were yet too far from the lipless moaning monster abominations we know today
The only thing more depressing than the Resident Evil movies is the thought of being robbed of a timeline where George Romero led the Resident Evil franchise
i think the full Romero's Version it will be something like Dawn of the Dead with Alone in the Dark - New nightmare, for sure it would have some "supernatural" tasty vibes, not entirely scientifically. I read some of the scripts and i have a lot of fun. Its not Resident Evil like Anderson's version. But its damn good
What's funny is in prototype build of Resident Evil 2 (dubbed Resident Evil 1.5) Ada was originally going to be a Scientist working for Umbrella, but when Capcom scrapped the 70-80% build of Resident Evil 2(1.5) they rewrote Ada as a secret agent who was trying to uncover and retrieve the T-Virus and the G-Virus samples along with any data she could find for some other big pharma company.
Would've liked to have seen Romero's "R.E." adaption, his proposed update of "The Mummy" and (with the budget he lacked in the early 70's) his remake of "The Crazies" would almost certainly have been more interesting than the one we got in 2010.
George Romeros version would of killed it. Paul Anderson butchered resident evil. All the action in his films took away from any horror elements the game was famous for.
It wasn’t bad per se, it just was… too much to handle. Constantin Films wanted to succeed like the narrator says, but Romero would’ve stunted it by going beyond the pg-13 or mature-rated gore allowed at the time. Even if made it would’ve faced heavy censorship and perhaps cut a great deal of George’s visual storytelling or political vision, maybe not allowed for staying in a Director’s cut. It probably would not be a beneficial situation for them both sadly.
@valthenvega2434 that's just nostalgia for what never would have been. His script was rejected because it used characters from the game but changed their narrative. Kind of like Welcome to Raccoon City which bombed. Romero made some good movies but by no means was anything but a B Movie director. Resident Evil has yet to produce a good movie adaptation, except maybe the first one by Paul, but then he turned the franchise into another excuse to try to convince the planet that his wife is hot.
Oh my god if George Romero’s resident Evil script actually went through you guys would have bashed the living daylights of it no matter how faithful it was to the 1st game quit saying that you would have loved his version because no matter what you would have been Toxic about it regardless
Not just that, but he did the worst thing you can do with a movie adaptation of the game. The first movie kicked ass, and it worked as a stand-alone. It wasn't until they started pushing in RE characters that it went to hell. You can do one of two things, and no one has done so yet - a faithful adaptation of the raccoon city story (I know a movie with the name raccoon city exists but they'd rather go woke than have their characters be recognizable, and they dumbed down the men the way lazy progressive writers do) or they can be completely independent and not retcon the original story, which Anderson did pretty much the opposite of.
Event Horizon is highly underrated, especially the uncut x rated version.. Resident Evil , while the story is different, the format, flow , and script was awesome. Everything in that story has set ups and pay offs..
Event Horizon was rated exactly the way it should have been. 🙄 It's the absolute best that Anderson could have ever done, and that's in the upper echelons of mediocrity. It's decent, serviceable, almost good, but "highly underrated" it is not.
I thought the George Romero resident evil commercial they film Japan with I think he passed away now I can’t remember his name mountain up recognize the girl in it. That was pretty cool. I like the old Capcom video game commercials even some of the Mortal Kombat ones in the kid has a kid they were cool the Mortal Kombat ones are kind of creepy like this resident evil commercial was they always back in the day ask kids while nates care of a back in the day with kids are playing video games sometimes the commercials fit the vibe of the commercial and the game itself not do that anymore.
I honestly think if Romero had been given resident evil we would of got the film we all wanted and are still waiting for. I still think welcome to racoon city was the closest but rushed the story and the Anderson franchise ended up being vanity projects for his wife.
Anderson was lucky with Mortal Kombat, as the movie released while the long running series had traction. Event Horizon and Soldier are actually pretty solid. But he screwed up Monster Hunter big time - guess he's tired of Video Game adaptions. But hey, we got to see Millas Landingstripe in his Version of Resident Evil at the end.
Nah I definitely think it would have been something note worthy seeing how much of a fan he was of the game and its story. This was the main issue with many of the early 90s/2000s video game-movie adaptations as their directors and producers weren’t interested at all in what made fans love the game and instead focused on what would make the film appeal to mass audiences. Seeing how Romero refused to give into producer demands I think if he got his way we would have been surely satisfied with the film. It would’ve not only been a great RE film but also just a great film in general.
@@memesouls8653 did you read the script? its garbage. if it was written by anyone else, everyone would think its garbage. its worse the WTRC and that was also made by a "fan".
The original RE2 borrows a lot from James Cameron's cinematic style as well, but I've always wanted to see a Dawn of the Dead 78 mod for it. Change the color grading a bit, throw in some Goblin music or similar italian horror soundtracks, etc. I've accomplished a similar effect with L4D2 mods but it'd be pretty amazing to see in the PSX version.
Yeah it sucks Brad Renfro passed away It sucks. I saw a couple of his movies growing up. It’s unfortunate that he passed away from drugs and substance abuse.
I absolutely love the resedent evil movies even though they are not true to the games and I do love the games I went through resident evil one at least 10 times
I read his script back when the first movie came out and it was pretty good especially the beginning. However who knows how it would have been in the final product. One thing to note is that Land of the Dead was dog shit. PS i love the first RE movie and the spin Paul took with it.
Don´t forget RE exist because Shinji Mikami s a huge fan of Romero´s. He his the fhater of Zombies genre. nobody like Romero´s could filming this franchise. His mind was the game. only her could make this film..
Just because a work is inspired doesn't mean the original could be anything like the newer, The of the dead movies have a completely different style and tone to resident evil, when it comes to narrative decision making and things which happen.
I always blamed P.W Anderson for the first one but honestly it seems more like the production company who did it. While the first one did not compare with the game at all, it at least was good. However the sequels ruined any potential the first movie had.
a film like Resident Evil was made for the fans, not the critics. a film that's panned by critics yet financially successful means the director has done his job right and given the fans what they want. they made 5 sequels, all of questionable quality, but they made buckets of money.
As a fan of Resident Evil.. no BIOHAZARD. I hated all of Paul W S Anderson's movies, he completely changed what Resident Evil was about and was a corporate studio lapdog!
I wasn't really a big fan of it hate it when directors take a book or a game and try to put their own spin on it to try and make a splash. Resident Evil Zero, One, Two, and 3, could easily be adapted into movies or a show all they gotta do is follow the Resident Evil books written by S.D. Perry. Even the Resident Evil book that came out with Resident Evil 1 on the Sega would of made for an amazing movie.
George's Movie was Hi-Jacked By Exes etc that wanted to get there Own Movies made instead, stick the Resident Evil IP name on it, Baited n Switched it on Capcom, THIS Happens LOTS!!!
I def would have wanted a Romero RE film, but I CANT say I didn't enjoyed the first RE movie. You say the vibe wasn't there? I call BS it was there, critics where just too busy complaining for complaints sake. The second film def had a lot of elements from the games and people still complained. Now I must agree after the second film the story line for sure goes off its rockers...that I fully agree. I did on the other hand enjoy the final sixth film, it had and interesting plot and I like how they finally tied the story together to help clean up the mess. In the end multiple directors across live and animation films tried to make people happy but making people happy especially in this day of age it almost impossible. Someone is always going to have some beef or some issue with the films because they span generations. When you have generational gaps moods and opinions vary so there will always be disagreement, the games are a very good example of this. The original RE players love RE games for what they actually where with there puzzles and actual survival horror. While the new kids think RE 6 was the pinnacle of RE games...LMFAO. Then you have the first person games that some think revived the RE series, then you have the remakes which are what I believe really brought the series back. So its all speculative in the end...
@@Wolfen_Argent If you say so, thank god we as human beings can make our own decisions and opinions. Thank the lord we can also simply ignore other peoples versions of "facts of life".... to each his own is a great motto to live by...cheers.
This was not gonna be nothing like the games and it was gonna be awful, it was his chance to just make more social commentary pretty much and he didnt care about the story by making jill the villainous character and not wesker and have both jill and christ going out, he sounds like he has never played any of the games and it was his own thing all the way.
Resident Evil movies are best though of as Superhero movies from the 90's. Studios wanted NOTHING to do with the source material and just wanted to make "their art". It was brutal... they got away with so much bs back then. It killed me that people like these awful movies because it meant the proper movies would never get made. Now there making the games (new games/remakes are garbage anway) but there making their games more like the movies now. Its sad. Also sad that once they went 3d they stopped putting in effort, stopped making actual cool monster models and just make everything a black goo monster now. Pure trash, people in charge of RE fked it up BIGTIME and theres no saving it now. Enjoy all the hacks for the old games, thats all your gonna get.
So the creator of resident evil went out of his way to NOT be a first person shooter, NOT have Supernatural elements and to have a specific art style (Reminds me fully of the Night of the Living Dead 90's remake... which is THE best Zombie movie ever made).... To which I LOVED 1,2,3 in their entirety. But... Look, Look how they massacred my boy... Those remakes are criminal. Absolute garbage.
Totally disagree with your assessment of Anderson's 2002 Resident Evil, with a terrifying claustrophobic atmosphere, decent action and special effects for its budget. And the music of Manson and Beltrami is something in general. But the next parts were really a mess.
I can’t wait for the official documentary about this!!!
Me either! It looks great!
I love the image of George Romero struggling to play RE1 and getting confused before saying "fuck it! You play this" to his secretary and throwing them the controller.
This along Jodorowsky´s Dune, Neil Blomkapmf´s Alien 5 and Colin Trevorrow´s SW episode 9 are my favorite unmade movies.
Yup. 👍 they killed all those movies that fans loved and wanted.
George Romero's version of the Resident Evil movie would blow away Paul W.S. Anderson version
13:07 so Romero's secretary recorded the first Resident Evil Let’s play ever? Cool

Agreed... I can't understand how he decided to get rid of the old creepy mansion and the scary music. Unless he enjoys pissing of people.
Agreed. He would have put to shame “ night of the living dead”💀. Especially with the effects that we have today in this generation of computers.
I agree but I will say the first two are good movies and do a bit feel like resident evil. After that it was doomed
People say that his script was bad but then they let Anderson cast his wife in 7 movies under the title?
