You know, it didn't really occur to me the first time I watched these, but for someone as awkward and shy as Darcy, confessing his love must've been _terrifying._ And then he watched the videos and found out the girl he loved not only hated him, but spent about 60% of her vlogtime making fun of him and making sure everyone knew how obnoxious he was. Oh, and seeing Dickham charm her and feed her lies about him, which probably also brought up memories of what he did to Gigi. That couldn't have been a fun night for Darcy.
Exactly ! You've just put words on what made me so sad about this episode. But for me the saddest part is, despite all of this, he still apologizes to her ...and for what ? For his presence in Lizzie's life !
To top it off one of her Question and Answer videos featured Wickham - and they were CLEARLY flirting. If Darcy wasn't a gentleman, I happen to think he would have smashed a whiskey glass against a wall after seeing that.
The way his face changes makes me feel like he got why she said the first, (didn't love it, but was like "that's fair") and the second was just surprizing
@@hannahanneabraham97 newsies were, as i understand it, the people who sold newspapers on the streets, and they often wore caps like the one lizzie uses for her darcy costume. there's a musical about them as well (called newsies), but i haven't listened to it
My favorite part about this episode (still. Cause I've seen it a bunch of times) is how Darcy is legitimately more upset about being called a Newsie than a soulless robot.
Aubrey Campbell but then we wouldn't get cute videos! And when I say cute, I'm not sure whether I'm talking about Dizzie, or just Daniel Vincent Gordh in general.
Wait wait wait... He went and watched all 60 of her videos? That would have taken forever... That takes some dedication. You go bro. Lizzy, you sick with him. He's a keeper.
+ThatRavenclawChick This is a man who's been obsessed with this girl, who just shot him down and was offered the golden platter of an explanation on why she hates him. In excruciating detail. He probably went back home or to his hotel room and binge watched them all. I don't think he'd have noticed the time. :)
Oh my god. I know. Darcy just- I know. And then you- I know. Oh my god. Can I just say how I love how it takes just seventeen words for these two since-fetuses best friends to catch up on the events of Episode 60?
"THE LETTER!" *Screeches in the voice of Gollum from Lord Of The Rings* Also, it's the third time I'm seeing these and I need to stop. Damn you Lizzie Bennet and your incredible wit!
When he says "it's fine, I don't care about that" it's soooo heartbreaking because after evertything Lizzie said about him the only thing she's explaining is why she called him a newsie.. like, what he care about is being rejected so harshly by Lizzie who litteraly hates him
Well, I would have totaly rejected him to, discarding George for I would have never fallen for that stunt, just him fucking up the confession by insulting her and her family would have been a dealbreaker for me, adding Jane . . . He sure had it coming. . . . But I still feel sorry for him, he tried?!
Aww, I felt so sorry for Darcy when he apologized to Lizzie if he made her stay awkward or unpleasant. Cause we all know he was just trying to get close to her. Poor darcy..
He is! I don't get all the people hating his portrayal. He actually made Darcy awkward instead of just aloof and dreamy--which was Austen's point in the first place, in Regency England, Darcy's attitude wasn't considered attractive, that's a modern thing. DVG did great!
+Kathleen Villanueva definitely! he portrays how he isn't good in social situations, and although that was to do with class (which is not so applicable today) it can still be interpreted as his pride. I think he's really true to the character which I love
He is the 2nd best Darcy after Colin Firth amongst all portrayals. And in a way, this is exactly what darcy would probably be without 19th century manners forcing him to hide his shyness behind aloof politeness. 19th century rich people were trained so a man in Darcy's position would never have come across as awkward because he would have learned how to hide it. In modern world, not so much.
He is so perfect. I don't know the behind the scenes of why they never went ahead with the wedding script that ashley wrote, but i really wish they'd done it because i wish we had more of him.
I love the way Darcy can't stop looking at Lizzie. Even when he knows that she is filming, he gives her his full attention and he is the only character that does that. I love the way he loves her!
+Randy Lion I think he wrote it in a letter because what he had to say was too personal to put in a video. That and I don't really peg Darcy as the vlogging type.
Kitty Grimm I see your point. I just thought it'd be cool to see him communicate to Lizzie in a way that she is accustomed to, ya know? Show that he is thinking about her in his attempt to clean his slate. :)
+randylion Yeah, but Darcy has said he has difficulty explaining himself, and it's pretty clear he's not the greatest conversationalist. Writing stuff down probably helps him out more.
It's been YEARS, and I've seen this series multiple times (on DVD, even!) but the moment when Darcy walks in unnoticed at 1:50 always makes me scream. Stop filming with the door open, Lizzie!
"You called me a robot... and a newsie." Happy Valentine's Day! Is there anything better to watch to celebrate than multiple versions of P&P? (The answer is no, no there is not) One of my favorite LBD Darcy lines (despite all the amazing ones later). I love when he pauses at the door as he's leaving. I just love all of it. It's only my 15th time watching this one, give or take 5 times lol
Charlotte has some *fantastic* moments in this episode. Her 'I knew it' is perfection and exactly what a bff would say, and her standing up to Darcy has me fist pumping. Chef's kiss!
"I totally knew it." is my favorite Charlotte moment. This is the video they showed in the TED Talk that got me intrigued to the point of wanting to watch the series. From 2:48-4:13. The hesitancy as he asked her to read the letter and walked out was done perfectly. I teared up. I don't do that easily. "And a Newsie." Laughed out loud. Got a little angry when she just disregarded the letter even knowing she would read it.
I've got to admit, having watched this once already and recently read the book and seen the BBC adaptation, I really like this Darcy. He's less of a slave to his anger and far more considerate than Lizzie gives him credit for, which makes her prejudice much more apparent.
But the only negative thing I would say about this version of Darcy is that it seemed really out of character to suddenly claim his love for her in the first time the audience sees him
All the emotion and effect that Darcey's character put into it made me feel sympathetic for him. I too am someone who would rather hide away, but for I would read a book instead of fake text'd.
Charlotte isn't only a great best friend, she's a great sibling's best friend! And Charlotte TOTALLY knew since she did that fake-texting costume theater with Jane! :D
I still melt whenever I watch the moment Darcy walks out the door. His pause before he completely steps out... just... GAH! I think he wanted to say something else, but either couldn't bear to deal with Lizzie's reaction to his letter, and/or decided at this point that he would stop coming to see her and let Lizzie decide on her own if she ever wanted to see him again.
Dudes, you planned this so completely perfectly well, with not having Darcy appear for 60 EPISODES, because now, every time he’s on screen I am SWOONING and craving MORE 😍

OMG - my heart has been split in two and then ripped out of my chest and then stomped on - dammit Lizzie! In the book, you couldn't tell Lizzie's hurt or hatred after the proposal. Here, hearing her tell a camera everything she is feeling about him all the time, this is a million times worse.
Does anyone else think that having watched the videos made Darcy fall even harder for her? Yes, she said hurtful things about him, but I can't believe he wasn't also further charmed by Lizzie's wit and humor.
I'm convinced Darcy fell more in love with her after he saw the videos...even if she did say hurtful things about him. He had to have been captivated by her sense of humor and wit.

Rewatching these just made me realise that Charlotte being "OMG. Darcy just- and then you- OMG" is eerily similar to her sister Maria's reaction to Doctor Who XD
"regardless of your position of authority over me, i don't like what you did to Jane." me: snap snap snap snap
Abby Barron I wish we could see his face during that moment, oh my goodness.
Charlotte is my favorite character. She stands up for what she thinks is right no matter what, and that's pretty awesome.
+Abby Barron i literally snapped in my dorm room no shame
+Abby Barron I swear, Charlotte is so underrated in LBD! I love her so much she's great
Charlotte is a badass, SUCK IT DARCY!!!!

Sometimes I wish they'd make vlog or book or actually anything that would tell the story from HIS point of view. Now that I would go cray cray for.
To top it off one of her Question and Answer videos featured Wickham - and they were CLEARLY flirting. If Darcy wasn't a gentleman, I happen to think he would have smashed a whiskey glass against a wall after seeing that.
If you read the real book, it has a lotttt more on Darcy's view
"You called me a robot." Delivered while sitting in a very robotic pose.
"...And a newsie." Bhaahahahaha!
Why do I think he was trying to show her he could joke around?
Oh he so was XD In his own...special way
The way his face changes makes me feel like he got why she said the first, (didn't love it, but was like "that's fair") and the second was just surprizing
I love how Darcy was more offended by getting called a Newsie than a Robot :D
even he can't deny that he's somewhat robotic in his behaviour xD
He’s probably used to being called a robot
Um. What is a newsie?
@@hannahanneabraham97 newsies were, as i understand it, the people who sold newspapers on the streets, and they often wore caps like the one lizzie uses for her darcy costume. there's a musical about them as well (called newsies), but i haven't listened to it

Same
What's his first appearance?
@@abhinayamarykoshy1264 episode 59, but idk why you would be watching this one before that

Oh wow. It’s Lucy! I love seeing who comments on these old videos
lol'd at "I only saw you in the hat once. I just ran with it."

Charlotte: I'm going to go...to do something work-related.
Literally my life.

10/10 would look at Charlotte again

The best thing about this series is how Charlotte is written. 100% best Charlotte hands down.

Ok, two years old but Lizzie, you got to keep that door shut when filming in your wokplace.
Even though I'm watching the entire series again, I almost want to start over to see it from Darcy's perspective AGAIN
That's where fanfic comes in.
***** There's a billion of them. (Only a slight exaggeration.) Regency-era AND modern.
+Tallie Carre Well, yeah, that's what I mean. Both LBD and P&P fanfic from Darcy's perspective.
They have LBD fanfics????

I love the way Darcy can't stop looking at Lizzie. Even when he knows that she is filming, he gives her his full attention and he is the only character that does that. I love the way he loves her!
It would have been way cool if Darcy's letter was in the form of a vlog. Like a video message just for Lizzie.

+Randy Lion I think he wrote it in a letter because what he had to say was too personal to put in a video. That and I don't really peg Darcy as the vlogging type.

1:57- Charlotte's face when Darcy speaks! Also good for her for standing up to him for Jane's sake.
The way he talks like he's two centuries behind still cracks me up
Lizzie's smile when Charlotte tells Darcy that she disapproves.

Or just 2
Love that they are mostly just things the grils had at home anyway, realy helps makeing it apear real
