That's partly because it really just ends in the book after Charlotte marries Mr. Collins. Lizzie thinks that she must have really not known Charlotte as well as she thought she did, and they grow apart. They are still friends, but never as close as they once were. I like in this version that we got to see more of Charlotte, because she is a well-developed character to the audience, whom we all missed. But, Charlotte in the book serves a different purpose, from my interpretation. The point of Charlotte's character in the book is to provide a vehicle for examining a friendship that transforms due to different outlooks, value systems, and pathways that we choose in life. Sometimes one juncture in the road changes a relationship forever, and you never heal.
I'm struck at how good the characterization is. Lizzie is flawed, yes, but not in a simplistic way, and at the same time, you see the genuine kindness in her by the way she withholds Darcy's secrets. She's just treated as such a real person.
Yeah, this show does pretty much the most wholesome and realistic portrail of its characters I have ever encountered. Yes Lizzie can be very judgmental and singlminded, but that does not mean she does not care, she just does not realise . . . That does not negate her hurting others, but neither does her hurting others negate that she would absolutly do everything in her power to keep those save and happy, that she loves. She is awesome and awesomly portraied not despite of her mistakes, but because of them, sugarcoating her would actualy do her a disservice
Seeing these again, I can only say that people watching it now have it so much easier. Watching the first time, we had to wait days for the next episode. It was ridiculous sometimes
Chrisfs But I'm SO glad that I had the opportunity to watch them as they came out and experience the incredible effect of the diverse social media they employed to do this. Today, sure, you can go back and find the same websites and twitter accounts, but you'll never have the same experience as you would scrambling over Charlotte's tumblr and George's twitter and Maria's intern channel. It was so cool to have all that in real time.
Lauren Elaine Oh absolutely. I guess when I say people had it easy, I mean it in an odd way. Waiting for the episodes was sometimes nervewracking but still part of the fun. The delay was part of it.
+Lauren Elaine This makes me wish so much that I had discovered these when 3 years ago, I bet the twitter and tumblr accounts helped build an actual fictional world were the characters feel almost like real life people...
Idk, I was just thinking abut how, considering how skeptical lizzie is, it's a little surprising that she believes Darcy at all... But then I just sorta realized, Darcy is honest, and lizzie knows it. He's harsh, and you could say that "darcy sees what darcy sees" (*wink wink* ok I'll stop referencing) but he is honest. And he will tell you the truth. And... Yeah... Idk.
I assume no people of that era would talk carelesly about how some dude tricked your little sister and stained her honor. I supose Lizzy would know all Darzy´s tale was true because of that, and surely she valued all the trust he had on her.
I’m glad that even though we usually hear the letter in most, we have Lizzie show her respect by not saying anything. It helps that anyone who watches this would already have a vague idea about it.
With the slogan she gives herself about driving people away, it strikes me that that is indeed one of her deepest insecurities. (spoiler for series follows) And to have Lydia throw that in her face in future, it's easy to forget among all the Lydia sympathy going on there, that Lizzie was just as deeply hurt by Lydia's constant belittling of her character.
I think there was definitely a lot of hurt on both sides. I do generally tend to be more sympathetic towards Lydia, mainly because she's so isolated and watching what happens to her is heartbreaking, but... it's clear that some of Lydia's remarks hurt Lizzie, too. Maybe she doesn't show it as much, and she has a better support system so maybe it doesn't affect her as much, but it clearly hurt.
I love her change of expression after she says "I bet Lydia's making a t-shirt already", like she said it sarcastically but then realises that it's probably true.
A LITTLE HARSH LIZZIE!? well Darcy did deserve most of what you told him, but the letter makes it all so much clearer doesn't it. You really realize what a beautiful soul he is. even if he has a bit of a rough exterior.
I have looked everywhere on the Internet for the meaning of PQZ and found absolutely nothing. One day I will know. also it's 100% getting carved into my future tombstone
+BBCgirl520 I agree to a certain extent, but... I feel like Lizzie goes a bit beyond the "poking fun" territory. She's made it pretty clear that while of course she does love her family, she doesn't have a very high opinion of Lydia or her mother.
Lizzie's attitude sort of mirrors the majority of people's disposition towards family and especially siblings: "i can criticise them, because they are my family, but god save everyone else from doing the same!" And I can sort of get behind that.
I love how despite knowing the truth about certain people and Darcy, Elizabeth tones down her hatred but let slide his other, unrelated, actions towards her family. This adaptation
I read Pride and Prejudice in college, but I really didn't connect with the story back then. However, watching Lizzie Bennet Diaries now has made the story come to life for me! I love this and look forward to each new video!
today (on my third, maybe fourth time watching this particular episode) I realized that when you try to pronounce "pqz" as an actual word, it sounds like "pukes" or, maybe a more Lydia-esqe term "pukesies." No idea if that's right, just an idea.
Good Show. Watching this series has made me re-read pride and prejudice over and over again. Magic exists in the world. It comes from the minds of others, and through their words transports us to new ones.
Just realized...after reading The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet, this depiction of Mrs. Bennet's possible reaction to a Lizzie/Darcy pairing is inaccurate. :)
In the book, Mrs. Bennet actually questioned Lizzie being with Darcy, and even thought it was a bad joke. She explains how she thought Lizzie, among her daughters, would never care if the guy is rich, and valued character over anything. English is not my first language so hope that made sense :)
GAH How is it possible that I could read the book, and watch every adaptation I can get my hands on and I'm still like, "OMG I HAVE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT" even though I already know what happens next. Good lord. This series is amazing.
I really Really REALLY like that they kept the contents of the letter secret in this adaptation. It totally goes along with how Elizabeth in the books didn't even really tell Jane or Charlotte, her closes confidents. Plus, it establishes her high moral principles which Darcy of course loves her for. And I love that she seemed sad that he wasn't going to be at dinner! Can't wait for the next ep!! :D
So, her facial expression at the news that Darcy and Fitz had left... Was that because Fitz had left without saying goodbye, OR was it because Darcy had left? I'm really enjoying watching all of Lizzie's reactions and expressions regarding Darcy post-confession.
Wow. Personal growth from Elizabeth - honest to God reassessment and learning. I am so proud. My little Lizzie Bennet Diaries... getting all grown up. *Wipes tear*
I literally had to stop watching this video when I saw that everyone said, "If you'd read the book you'd know what was in the letter!" and I went and read the book. :P
You know you're watching intensely when you notice the slight change of hair position from one frame to the next where the video was cut. Fantastic job! So excited to see what comes next!
I was reluctant to start watching this videos but finally caved last night into watching the first five or so. I now have seen them all including most of Lydia's videos and a few of Maria's. I can't stop!
Wait... I remember when I first watched this series, Lizzy did not say "...since the early 2010's." She actually went off the year she was born, giving her age away. I wonder why it changed?
This is so much more enjoyable and easier to process in one sitting..really enjoying re-watching this tonight. I like Darcy so much better now than the first time, and Lizzie as well. Great job to the writers, as well.
Wow! I just finished all 62 videos in two days. This so far, is such a wonderful adaptation of Jane Austen's masterpiece. I have said in a previous video that Pride & Prejudice is one of my all time favourite novels...and this web-series proves just how universal the novel is and how it will be relevant for the rest of eternity. The acting is phenomenal.
v hahaha yes, loved that she called him handsome. ^^ Now in the BOOK we know what the letter says, bc lizzie reads it in private and her life isn't on the internet. But here.... how are we supposed to find out what the letter says?
It is very similar to letter in original Pride and Prejudice but I recommend to just read Secret Diaries of Lizzie Bennet how @@Jeremiah90526suggested it.
I'm super glad this video went in the direction it did. I'm so glad she didn't reveal what was in the letter. Not that it's that much of a reveal since we already know how it goes down, but I feel this was done in the right way. This is such a good adaptation. Keep up the good work!
Yay! I'm so glad Lizzie didn't spill the beans. At the beginning of the video I was beginning to worry about what would happen down the road with Lizzie being so open and everyone finding out everything, especially things that Darcy wouldn't want known publicly. But now, I'm really sad that Darcy left. And I can tell that poor Lizzie is too. I hope you're still watching Darcy!
"Books are totally awesome! Reading can expand your world view, increase your vocabulary, and increase the probability of understanding literary allusions in a video series based on a book!" -me
I've read the book also & I'm still excite too! I find myself checking twitter & tumblr often to see if there are any updates. I love seeing the ways they adapt the original story to make it more modern.
You would think what harm would a 4 minute video possibly do.. YOU ARE WRONG SO SO WRONG IT'S A WICKED TRAP PEOPLE I CANT HELP BUT STAHP and technically speaking it's not just Lizzie. I mean you can't really move forward until you have read all the comments too right, right? (someone say this is normal, please?)
Loooove these videos. My friend told me about them and I have literally watched all 62 episodes in two sittings. I'm a huge Austen fan and I actually really like how you've modernized P&P! Good stuff!!
I haven't read the book and I think this is really awesome. Adapting a classic into vlog form is such a perfect idea and I'm glad to be watching it even though I have no clue what is going to happen. It makes all of the surprises new and fresh to me. Now once this is all over I'm definitely going to read the book.
I really wanted the Lizzie to tell us the contents of the letter, but now I realize that would not have been faithful to the book, so, in the end, it's better this way! Thank you!
"....someone whose good opinion..." completely reminded me of "My good opinion once lost is lost forever" from Darcy in the novel. I love the subtle literary allusions.
I REALLY love how this was handled. I completely understand your decision to not tell us about the letter - some things can be a little too personal to tell the world.
I respect you for not disclosing what was in that latter, Darcy is obviously a private person and it sounds like the letter was, well, something rather important. So kudos for your stance Lizzie!
wow can i just say i entered the Lizzie Bennet watching crowd at the exact perfect time? Darcy has been revealed, the excitement and love have yet to happen, and i already know what's in the letter! (or at least the p&p version, yay!) THIS IS AN AWESOME WEB SERIES
awww she is going to keep his secrets :) things slowly looking up. This is genius by the way. I've watched every single one, and i LOVE it! This is my favorite book of all time and you are doing a GREAT job.
i actually started watching LBD on the recommendation of a friend, with no strong interest in pride and prejudice, and i'm now really excited to start reading the book! i don't know if it's intentional or not, but the encouragement is certainly working on me :)
This series is so amazing and so catchy that I spent the last 4 hours of my nightshift watching it and it made it bearable so thank you. but now i am all caught up. what do i do with myself now? this is just so amazing. thank you for this.
I CAN'T EVEN WITH THE ADDICTIVENESS OF THESE VIDEOS. Holy crap.. And just as I was like, "Okay, one more," that has to be the one where DARCY FINALLY SHOWS UP. UGHHHH
Even though we won't see Darcy for a while (Chistmas at Pemberley hopefully!) this video was still great as ever. In the last three videos, we see Lizzie totally change! From the time Darcy was introduced to now, she has went from totally hating him and blaming him for everything to saying she has been really harsh on Darcy and says "it's like I don't know myself anymore." So, hold out fellow viewers because Lizzie Bennet is going on an emotional roller coaster and is bringing us for the ride!
"SHE THINKS IM HANDSOME!!" - darcy
I love you for that
i appreciate that i posted this 2 and a half years ago and still get at least 1 or more notifications a week from it. lol
+meganrmz happy notification time
can you imagine him doing a little happy dance in his room? And then someone looking in and then calling the lunatic asylum. Xd
Another reminder of your genius comment incoming~
I love how she always call Darcy handsome when she talks about him from her mum's point of view
and her face makes it look like it's her saying it
Haha! You're right. I mean she for sure noticed his looks, who couldn't but she definitely uses her mom's POV as a way to sneak that in there
I was kind of interested in her project...
Me too
not more interested than in the letter
Shame on you
Same
rewatching this after taking a very enjoyable mass comms course in my final year of uni... PLEASE LIZZIE IMPART UPON US YOUR VALUABLE RESEARCH
I like that in this series you can see the friendship between Charlotte and Lizzy. It's sort of overshadowed in the book.
That's partly because it really just ends in the book after Charlotte marries Mr. Collins. Totally agree. One of the few advantages

I love how, eventually, we all kinda did become 'Charlotte' and Charlotte became us, LOL.
I just *love* imagining Lizzie yelling in her "mom voice", with the door open, for the whole office to hear. :D
I KNOW WHATS IN THE LETTER - pride and prejudice love
Totally! I know what's in it!!! Woot! Go English major in college!
_Oh my gosh Lizzie's Lydia voice is the best._
Learning FTW Jane’s is better 😂
Seeing these again, I can only say that people watching it now have it so much easier. Watching the first time, we had to wait days for the next episode. It was ridiculous sometimes
Agreed, the wait to watch these was horrible.

idk if it's just because i've watched this before, but i actually wanted to hear about her thesis project...
I actually thought it sounded interesting...
A2n7tA same here, actually. :D
A2n7tA What else will she be righting on?
Such a cliffhanger!
if i remember correctly it is a little more detailed in the Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet (the book) but i could be mistaken
Same😂
"No one cares about your project. We just want to know about the letter." lol Charlotte summed up our feelings quite nicely.
This corner of UA-cam is my favourite place to be ☺️
I’m glad that even though we usually hear the letter in most, we have Lizzie show her respect by not saying anything. It helps that anyone who watches this would already have a vague idea about it.

plants versus zombies
But... but what's the Q then?
Christine Stevenson its Lydia it prob doesn't mean anything
I found proquizzer but not sure if that's what she meant
I'm sure they made it up
*clears throat* Ahem, you also don't think well of your mother and sister, Lizzie. Pot, meet Kettle.
2ndRatePetronius Someone was doing a rewatch, I see.
sorry but I think that there is a big difference between poking fun at your own family (who you love) and someone else doing it.
+BBCgirl520 I agree to a certain extent, but... I feel like Lizzie goes a bit beyond the "poking fun" territory. She's made it pretty clear that while of course she does love her family, she doesn't have a very high opinion of Lydia or her mother.

CHAPTER 35 (also known as volume 2 chapter 12) OF PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WHAT UPPPPP!! most important chapter of the book
I actually saw the letter and how long it was so put the book off for a day or two... One of my regrets in my life >.
I love how despite knowing the truth about certain people and Darcy, Elizabeth tones down her hatred but let slide his other, unrelated, actions towards her family. This adaptation
"like your romantic entanglements could affect my employment." I was just waiting for Mr. Collins to come bursting in right then.
Lizzie's dad is my favorite! I wish they referenced him and his sarcasm more often in these vlogs
Don't worry, we kinda have an idea of what's in the letter
I read Pride and Prejudice in college, but I really didn't connect with the story back then. However, watching Lizzie Bennet Diaries now has made the story come to life for me! I love this and look forward to each new video!
I love her look at 3:32 when she hears Darcy won't be at dinner.
LOVE IS IN THE AIR.
"Nobody cares about your project, we just want to know about the letter."

Paused at :30 to say this, Lizzie:
Your project actually sounds fascinating and I would love to hear more.
THANK YOU for not ruining the whole "Lizzie is all torn because she has all of the feelings and can't talk to ANYONE" thing. Thank you.
Imagine "Darcy" watching this video...
lol
I really Really REALLY like that they kept the contents of the letter secret in this adaptation. Thank god I've read the book several times, I would go out of my mind if I didn't know what was in the letter xD
Thank you Charlotte, for getting to the point of what we really want to know!
I literally had to stop watching this video when I saw that everyone said, "If you'd read the book you'd know what was in the letter!" and I went and read the book. :P
You know you're watching intensely when you notice the slight change of hair position from one frame to the next where the video was cut.
Fantastic job! So excited to see what comes next!

you find out in 20 episodes = )
Secret Diaries of Lizzie Bennet works too.
It's going to be a while until we next see Darcy, but just remember that when we do, he's going to be even more adorable. :)
Oh Charlotte, how we loooove yooooou!
You get right to the point. Always.
Ok, the LBD is amazing and of course we all want to know what is in the letter but: What DOES pqz mean?? Anyone?
please... quit... zapping.
Oh Thank you! :D
Seriously, whenever one of these videos posts, it's one of the highlights of my day.
VAGUENESS!!! GAH! I mean I already know what the letter said cause I read the book and saw the movies but STILL! I NEEED MOOOORRREEE LBD!!!!!
I love this show. It is so cleverly written.
Or: "My name is Lizzie Bennet and... I am in love with William Darcy." :P
Yay! I'm so glad Lizzie didn't spill the beans. At the beginning of the video I was beginning to worry about what would happen down the road with Lizzie being so open and everyone finding out everything, especially things that Darcy wouldn't want known publicly.

"Books are totally awesome! Reading can expand your world view, increase your vocabulary, and increase the probability of understanding literary allusions in a video series based on a book!"
-me
Yeah Charlotte! You know what us fans of these video diaries want the most. Not Lizzie's project but the letters.
I can just imagine the letter tweet...
"OMG just gave Lizzie Bennet a letter confessing my love LOL FTW!"
I've read the book also & I'm still excite too! I find myself checking twitter & tumblr often to see if there are any updates. I love seeing the ways they adapt the original story to make it more modern.
You would think what harm would a 4 minute video possibly do.. YOU ARE WRONG SO SO WRONG
IT'S A WICKED TRAP PEOPLE I CANT HELP BUT STAHP
and technically speaking it's not just Lizzie. I mean you can't really move forward until you have read all the comments too right, right?
(someone say this is normal, please?)
Not normal but, you know, common :D
Thursdays are the day I have allergy shots and yet I still look forward to them because of these videos. :)
can you imagine Fitz watching them?
I'll always love Lizzie's impersonation of her mom 😂😂
"No one cares about the project"
…but…I did…
Loooove these videos. My friend told me about them and I have literally watched all 62 episodes in two sittings. I'm a huge Austen fan and I actually really like how you've modernized P&P! Good stuff!!
Already missing Fitz
I haven't read the book and I think this is really awesome. Adapting a classic into vlog form is such a perfect idea and I'm glad to be watching it even though I have no clue what is going to happen. It makes all of the surprises new and fresh to me. Now once this is all over I'm definitely going to read the book.
at this point in the story was charlotte still editing the vlogs
I ABSOLUTELY love her imitation of Mrs. Bennet! It's been a while since Lizzie's done it. Missed it!
No Charlotte. It's not okay with us.
the pacing of the story is awesome. as soon as we meet and come to understand Darcy, we lose grasp on him.
it gets meta too. I love it.
PQZ = Please Quote Zombies?
I really wanted the Lizzie to tell us the contents of the letter, but now I realize that would not have been faithful to the book, so, in the end, it's better this way! Thank you!
Vague Vlogging!
Every monday and thursday. There is one today! Can't wait for it!!!
Has anyone else realised that we're soon reaching the end on this series? OH THE AGONY!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Charlotte. You know what we all want.

Thank you for that! It does completely suck, and your comment helps me feel better about it.
As someone who's read the book, I think they handled that scene really well. Kudos!
So perfect. I really love this.
Curious, of course, but impressed by your class and maturity. Keep it up, LizzieB!
Charlotte. You are the voice of the fans.
Thank you Charlotte, for being the voice of the fandom in this video. :P
awww she is going to keep his secrets :) things slowly looking up. This is genius by the way. I've watched every single one, and i LOVE it! This is my favorite book of all time and you are doing a GREAT job.
CANNOT WAIT for Lizzie to meet Georgiana!!! I mean Gigi! This is so exciting!
"Lizzie Bennet, driving people away since ...2010!" Goshdarnit, I really want one now!
i actually started watching LBD on the recommendation of a friend, with no strong interest in pride and prejudice, and i'm now really excited to start reading the book! i don't know if it's intentional or not, but the encouragement is certainly working on me :)
This series is so amazing and so catchy that I spent the last 4 hours of my nightshift watching it and it made it bearable so thank you. but now i am all caught up. what do i do with myself now? this is just so amazing. thank you for this.
