    is there a quicker way to switch between each sectioned word from different takes (3:50) by maybe scrolling or a key command instead of clicking through each take? because when there are a lot of vocal takes, I wish I could just press the up arrow or something to quickly move through the same word on each take instead of moving the mouse and clicking over and over.

    Wow ive been using Logic for years this tutorials taught me a bunch of new stuff. ¹Track Alternative outrageous! You should say Control click on Track Header choose Track Header Components to include that choice to your Track Header
    ²Marquee cut and nudge.
    ³clicking below comp to get similar selection on a different take. Wow!

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  4 місяці тому

      Glad you enjoyed it!
      I colour them individually, depending on how I want to mark it (good take, bad take, etc).
      When you open the Take Folder, you can do it by opening up the colour pallette, clicking on the take (in the top half of the waveform) and choosing a colour.

    at around 4:10 you start quick comping, the first time you press play you drag the cursor on the timeline to where you want it to start playing, I assume you hit the space bar to play. after that you don't seem to need to drag the cursor each time. For some reason when I press play it doesn't go back to the beginning of that comp spot it just keeps playing from where it left off last. are you using a different shortcut to press play and listen so that it keeps reminding to the beginning of the comp section?

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  9 днів тому

      Yep, it’s a setting.
      Right click the Play button and check ‘play from last locate position’
      That’s generally how I always have it set

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  2 роки тому +1

      Track Alternatives are different. You can’t comp between two different track alternatives so they won’t show up in your initial comp.
      They can be useful though and can be another way to save different versions of comps.

    Hey James, maybe you can help me out. I have all these settings in place yet when I am editing between different takes to create my comp I'm not seeing the crossfades automatically coming in? Having that show up really helps to smooth things out and eliminate pops and clicks. But I simply dont see it automatically crossfading for ease. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  2 роки тому

      Hmmm strange. I wonder if it could be the setting on the top right which determines how it reacts when audio overlaps. You should have it on ‘X-fade’. It could be set to ‘no overlap’ or something maybe?

      If you right-click on the Play button, you can select ‘return to last locate position’.

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Hi there, firstly, before recording, ensure that you have the setting checked from the start of the video: Preferences / Recording / Audio - Cycle on/Off set to 'create take folder'.
      If you have all the takes there, ensure that you've definitely dropped down the take folder by clicking the little arrow in the top left. If you are, then you should just be able to edit the takes.
      Double check the following settings are checked to make sure the cursor changes it's behaviours:
      Preferences / General / Pointer Tool In Tracks Provides : then check all three boxes; Fade tool..., Marquee tool..., Quick swipe...
      Let me know if you're still stuck!

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Presuming you’ve done everything right, there should be a little arrow (or triangle) at the top left of the wave form. One other thing to check is that your advanced tools are enabled. Go to: Preferences / Advanced Tools and then enable all of them

  • @janrechberger8601

    Does anybody know how this works with MIDI tracks, i´m having a multiple take folder with midi performance i would like to swipe the best bits but for some reason i´m not having tge swipe tool?

    • @JamesArterMusic
      @JamesArterMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Logic doesn't have the facility to do quick-swipe comping with MIDI, despite it having the ability to use take folders.
      Best thing to do there is to actually chop the parts you want and then choose them in the folder.

    My cursor never becomes an arrow. I can't move anything. Why is Logic Pro X suck a PITA? Everything I try to do is the farthest thing from intuitive. Try exporting to a mono file. It's like safe cracking.

    • @JamesArterMusic

      There should be a point at the top-middle of the screen which displays what tool you’re using. Generally, I’d leave the left one on Arrow and the right on whatever it starts on.

    I have a complain!!! The vocalist here is WAY too good and the takes are too consistent to demonstrate the comping technique :P Now seriously who is this?! Also tips for songwriters : this is so easy you can even write as you sing and sing different versions and then edit on the fly to make the first verse and so on. Swear to God I do it all the time. I still learned a lot!
