Really helpful, thanks man!
You’re welcome - glad you liked it!
SUPER HELPFUL SHORTCUT 🙏
That it helped!
how to copy a plugins over another plugins in pro tool without moving it down?
You do the same thing but when it’s copying over the plugin the plugin you’re copying over will highlight blue around the edges, instead of just above/below it.
I did everything you say, but when I drag some sample to the square it doesn't works :( it just stay gray. what can I do?
That’s strange! Which DAW are you using? And are you dragging it to a MIDI track?
Super useful, thank you!
You’re welcome - thanks for watching!
this is so aggravating i got help but forgot months later
There are so many things that I do and forget! If you’re not doing some tasks frequently they don’t always stick - very annoying! Hope this helped 👍
Great Great Video! Can you tell me if there is a way to do the normal midi capture feature with trigger 2 and get the midi to somehow trigger the kick, snare, and toms into superior drummer 3 drum kits? I use superior a ton and I know it has a tracker also but the steps are longer. But man it would be great if Incan use trigger 2 to capture the midi and use the superior drum kits! Do you have a way for this? Thanks again for great Trigger vids!
Of course! Once you’ve done the MIDI capture, you can just use that to play back any software instrument. Just set the correct MIDI note for each kit piece before the capture (although you can still adjust afterwards in the MIDI file if you need to). Depending on which DAW you’re using, you’ll be able to playback from the MIDI chance on put it on an instrument channel. You can just copy and paste the MIDI notes from each kit piece onto the same MIDI channel. Make sense?
Oh man this is mind blowing! Ok so I can have kick, snare, and toms (5 tracks total) all on separate tracks that were recorded live, then insert trigger 2 on each individual tracks to capature midi, then assign the midi notes to the notes to “one of the drum kits” on one instrument track with superior drummer 3 inserted. In other words, can it be done with superior on one instrument track and all 5 tracks be midi routed with the proper midi numbers all routed to a that single instrument track or do I need to have 5 instrument tracks with superior on each of the tracks? I will be experimenting tomorrow to try to figure this out for this is all new to me. I I cant thank you enough for getting back to my post!
Yeah, you got it. Superior drummer basically just wants a MIDI track (or instrumental track) to play it back, Trigger is just creating that for you, albeit on separate tracks. Just copy the data from each one over to one MIDI or instrument track, and that’s what you’re using for SD. Let me know how you get on!
Hey James, I was able to merge the separate drum tracks into one instrument track! And was able to map the midi to the correct midi notes for the individual drums, however there are apparently more than one midi note assigned to to each drum. Example there are many for the snare like Center (this what I set the number) then there is rim, sidestick etc midi notes which I didn't set because I don't think the sample has all that information. So I just set them to center and I get the sound but don't know what to set the other numbers to or even if I can. What do you think? Thanks again-James!!
Is this in Superior Drummer? I think so. Just set to centre, that’s the main hit. The other ones are different articulations. For example, you can switch the note to that articulation if you want it to play that back, otherwise, just leave it on Centre
Hey ! Thx but can we know where U got your snare samples please ?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Please, if you can give a more detailed explanation for VocAlign Ultra! Please!🥰
You’re welcome - I’m glad it’s helped! I’ve done a video on VocAlign Project, but haven’t used the Ultra version so can’t help you there just yet!
@@JamesArterMusic Thanks ! 🥰
Man this thing sounds sooooo good!
Thanks! It’s on sale at the moment in case you wanted to grab a bargain 🙂
Behringer makes a reference amp that is surprisingly good, I think it’s called the A500? I had the Yamaha amp that was recommended and used it with my NS10Ms for quite a while. I didn’t realize how much of a part the amp plays with these near fields. They want POWER. My Yamaha amp was cranked at 100w. Not good. These babies want 200w or more. Yes, you will blow them so DO NOT crank them. You don’t need to, that’s not what they are for. Prepare to replace your tweeters if you do. The Behringer amp with its outputs 3/4 turned up sounds WAY better than the Yamaha amp turned up all the way.
That’s interesting to hear! And good to know a cheap amp did a good job. Yep, it’s definitely interesting seeing how the amp can affect the sound so much, and an important thing to know. Thanks for watching!
How do you get the drum sim?
That’s Slate SSD5.5
Probably some of the best advice right here
Thanks a lot! Make sure you check out the full video on my channel, if you haven’t already 🙂
@@JamesArterMusic I watched the full video! It makes so much sense!
good stuff, thank you
Thanks for watching!
Gaaaaaay afk
Think you ment Mastodon.
That works too!
Great video on Trigger 2, much appreciated! The only question I have is on MIDI playback on logic. Once I create a MIDI track and transfer the midi capture to that track, why am I not getting any signal? I sent the track into the same AUX channel that I have trigger running on and set the note to D1, but I’m not getting any signal on that new MIDI channel.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it helped! A few people have asked me the same question, so I just recorded a video for you. Follow the link below or check it out on my channel. Hope that helps! ua-cam.com/video/PRdNFtZQaGI/v-deo.html
@@JamesArterMusic appreciate the reply, but I got it figured out. The issue was only regarding the specific note settings for midi In on trigger, setting up trigger on the new Midi track instead of sending to through the aux, and disabling the L/R pre fader sends of the snare and click tracks.
Top notch bro… ✊🙂 Can’t help noticing behind you next to dear ol Rik is an Astoria painting… I’ve had some amazing nights out there in the past. The Rock nights in the late 80's and 90's were legendary 🔥♠️🔥 Yet another sadly missed London venue 😢
Ahh man, the Astoria will always hold a special place in my heart - so many gigs and wonderful times! Yep, sadly, another venue savagely culled. Thanks for watching!
I mean the tone is pretty good either way honestly but definitely better with the plugins
Thanks a lot!
New subscriber here bro... excellent YT channel, on hearing examples of your work I can proudly say it is also truly awesome 🤟😄💥
That’s very kind, thank you. And thanks so much for viewing and subscribing!
i would think having a sub to switch on and off to check on the low end would be key
It’s definitely useful to have a sub! Not everyone with NS10s will use a sub though, as a different set of speakers will be used to check the low end
Thanks a lot for the tutorial, it helped me a lot!😉🤘
You’re welcome - glad it helped!
Great video, only thing that It was missing was hearing the drums in context of the mix, really wanted to hear what that punch added in. I did shootout last night in my own session with he slate pulteq vs the waves puigteq and the slate was superior by long shot
Thanks for watching! Ahh, I should’ve done that. Maybe I can add something to the video for you. The waves ones is great but is no competition to the slate one. However, in comparison to the UAD one, there’s not as huge a difference. It would be great to hear it against a real pultec!
THANK YOU SO MUCH
You’re welcome!
Great video, Pultec trick never gets old. Is it my ears or were the before and after samples not level-matched? They also sounded a bit brighter. You could still tell the low end improved. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
It’s a great trick, isn’t it! You’re probably right on the level matching, I usually do but probably didn’t get it quite right for the example. Just from inserting the SD-PE1 does affect the sound a bit, so that’s probably where the extra brightness comes from. Sounds quite good though!
By the way I am already a subscriber and I also just now got your eq cheat sheet
Question: but first Wow what a sound ! As you might guess from my name, I am a drummer. I often use the kick drum settings on at least one of my djembe mics. So please explain how you can send parallel processing on the drum and not have phasing or increase level? Do you level match ?
Hi there! Thanks very much for subscribing! I don’t usually run into many phase issues with parallel processing but yes, it usually does increase the level. Sometimes I will level match but sometimes the level increase isn’t a problem. You should definitely try this on your djembe, I bet that will sound great!
Thanks James - great video!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. I was recently trying to get a good BALANCE for my song and was having issues. This video has great tips that I will definitely try. Thank you, James!
Excellent! Good to hear. Hope it helps and thanks so much for watching 🙏

Thanks for watching!
I still have and use my NS-10M Studio's I bought back in 1992 powered by an Alesis RA-100 amp I bought at the same time. Why do I hang on to them? The mixes Bob Clearmountain made in the 80s, such as Roxy Music's Avalon, still sound better than most albums made these days.
Nice - you’ve had those a long time! Are you happy with the amp? Ever tried a different one? Absolutely, his mixes - and that one in particular - are still incredible!
Top Notch bro 🤟🙂
Thanks for watching!
Please make a video on Logic Pro on how to trigger using midi track. I saw you have the tutorial but it was done in protools. Thank You!

Thank you!!
You’re welcome - glad it helped!
I have the X8 with a Sphere LX. I use UAD Rec and my inserts in the console are the sphere plug in set to an 87 or 251 with the Tube Tech CL 1B MKII. I turn my input monitoring up between -16-25 db. I have LA 2A on the chain in the DAW but now I’m thinking i might just put the whole chain in console and have nothing in the daw until mixing.
I bet that sounds lovely! And yeah, just have that whole chain in Console. Treat it like that’s your hardware recording chain. And in response to your other question; no, precision channel strip is for the EQ really. I don’t have any preamp in my unison slot but that’s on it because I was tracking through a hardware API preamp. If I wasn’t doing that, I’d have put something in the unison slot too
@@JamesArterMusic appreciate that. Right now I don’t have anything in that slot. I have default pre amp plug ins but I’m thinking about purchasing the neve 1073 plug in through UA. The default pre amps don’t allow full control of the input volume if you know what I mean. So i leave the spot blank and manually adjust the input. Any recommendations?
Killer and Sylvia is the bomb!
She really is! I was really surprised with how well this worked
Well explained, thank you!
You’re welcome - thanks for watching!
Oh that's cool
Great tutorial, J! Thanks a lot! As an improvement to this workflow in PT I'd suggest using an instrument track right from the start since you can surely bus your audio thought it just the same, then you don't have to bother changing that for the MIDI part… ;-)
Thanks for watching, glad it was useful! Hmm, yeah that might work. Not sure it would receive the bussed audio in the same way though. I’ll try it out and see. Or, if you get a chance to try, let me know! Thanks a lot man 🙏
@@JamesArterMusicGreat! in fact yes, it does work just fine! I've been using it like that on a number of sessions. ;-)
We you put this next after vocal correction?
Yes, after vocal correction
Hey. Just want to say thank you. I've been using Logic since 2008... found you because my co-producer is Pro Tools and your video came up under the search "Easiest way to go between Logic and Pro Tools" in Google. And I've continued watching several of your videos now. You are a good teacher! Keep it up! I'm subscribed now.
im trying to use amphub to get a dimebag sound, but when i add the vst to a track the output is empty. the input still shows something, but the output doesnt move.
Have you got the latest version? Is the volume up on the amp itself? Is there an IR selected on the cab section?
God damn those vocals
Is that god damn good or bad? 😀
THANK YOU!!!!!
planing on getting a solo, confirm i can build the same chain?
Absolutely!
Fantastic, I feel a lot more comfortable with the plugin now!
That’s good to hear - glad it helped!
No preamp?
In this example, I was actually tracking through a hardware API preamp. But if I wasn’t, I’d definitely be using one of the Unison pres!
Thanks James! Question for you: I noticed that you only suppressed the Kick, ideally should we suppress each individual drum that was mic'ed of a live kit (i.e. Toms, Cymbals, etc.)?
You’re welcome! I only did the kick in this example to show the process but you can do as many or as little as needed, it depends what’s causing a problem. Sometimes, on a snare track, I’ll use the toms as a suppression element too because that can sometimes confuse some fills. So it really depends on which element is getting in the way. Hope that makes sense!
