It's rare these days to find a UA-cam video which explains exactly 100% what you're trying to do in an easy to understand way. Great job. Subscribed. Thanks man.
Hey MusicTechHelpGuy I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your tutorials. I'm just a hobbyist and not a professional in this field but I got a chance to use Logic with a friend who's a real singer he sang to one of my music composition (very very beginner level music) and he saw me using logic and told me that I use the DAW better than some professionals he worked with. THANK YOU SO MUCH I didn't realize how much I learned from your channel. You deserve more support sir!
You really are an excellent teacher and you seem to love what you do. Followed you for years now. Im 73 and a retired teacher and you have been super helpful in explaining aspects of recordimg to a ” boomer” Thanks again.
Thank you so much for explaining this! I have always been a bit intimidated by the quick-swipe concept, but you are an excellent instructor. Thank you again!
Nice tutorial dude!!! I was a pro tools user for a decade and comping takes was always the most annoying tedious task, this quick swipe comping is incredible, I never knew what I was missing! Thanks again man!
Awesome! I was just complaining about how bad I suck at using this procedure. My Logic friends on line insisted it works and I need to stop being an old fart and get with the times. So I made it a goal to learn how to edit with take folders and quick swipe comping this month. Low and behold.. you put out a video on it the next day. Awesome!
I love editing this way, but I would never, ever "flatten and merge." I always create a copy of the comb and keep (and hide) the original take folder. (You might want to revisit later.) With comping I mostly concentrate on performance, timing and intensity because some slightly out-of-tune notes can be fixed easily, but not the core energy. One thing that could be very helpful in the process is to keep notes while recording: you often have an intuitive feeling about which takes and which parts of a take are the best. That makes compiling a lot easier afterwards because then you're already in the ballpark. (I hope this makes sense and/or is helpful.)
I completely agree. I think it’s a bit reckless to delete files like that because you never know. It’s really easy to duplicate / bounce the original and use the duplicate as needed.
@@learnwithsalim1228 Yes. I like that move too.. If all the takes are good and its BGVs im tracking, I'll bounce all the takes out to their own track and stack it for phat BGVs.
This is how I do it at home as I don't have a proper set up and record everything myself. It's a challenge to get it to sound great. But I've watched a lot of your videos and they are a massive help. Thanks for sharing your knowledge brother, it is much appreciated!
That's super useful ! And the final result sounds great ! Thank you for this video. I'm gonna have a recording session with an artist tonight and I will use this technique ! :)
Man that was so so good, I learnt so much from this video so it’s defo in my go to list ? I will try out just with some vocals so that I can use all the features and get used to them, so cool, thank you
I would recommend instead of flattening active take to export active take. Then make a track called EXTRAS and drag those takes to the extras track and mute that track. Rather than flattening and merging the take, where you can’t go back later you will have the options to find another take later if you change your mind about a certain take. Thanks again for the video!
Maybe someone can help me out. I don't see the Crossfade happening when im choosing between performances? Do I need to enable something? I believe I did everything shown in this video....any help would be great thanks!
Thanks for sharing this great info. May I ask, what key command are you using to go up and down to preview the different takes? My up and down arrows are not doing it.
This is really helpful mate. What about when I want to repeat sections and stuff? Can I just bounce out each take into its own audio track and cut it up with the scissor tool as normal?
Great video tutorials and like your teaching. What mouse are you using do you recommend with working with logic? The ball mouse looks like it's easier to work with than my current mouse pad.
Thanks for this video, you are an excellent teacher. Can you please do a similar video for recording woodwinds instrument (saxophone)’ I want to learn how to record and edit (equalization, compression, effects etc.)
I’m a few months late seeing this video but it’s very good and I learned a lot. But I also came across something clearly by mistake. When you’re doing your takes and you make a mistake you can just keep hitting record and start singing again and it’ll drop down to a new track! Then you can go ahead and splice the best parts. 👍🏼
This got me excited to record something...Where has easy cut and splice (vocal comp) been all my life? lol I wish I had known about this a long time ago?
The thing I'm still not sure of is what should I do when I've made my comp and I want to make a dub track out of the parts I didn't use in my main comp? Sorry for the long sentence 😁
this came right in time… i dont know what happened but now when i record vocals it doesn’t do “takes anymore” it just overwrites the whole thing. please help!! i have the settings as you did. it usually can creates takes but for some reason now it’s not.. ugh
I would certainly flatten a comp once I get it the way I like it. Why keep the rejected scraps? Unless . . . 1.There were some good alternate phrases that I could use later in song as a variation. 2. Stems were recorded in a $100 per hour studio. ;-)
Is it at all possible to make it so Logic does not automatically open the take folder after the second take? I would love it if it could appear as one region while recording, no matter how many takes I do.
I run Logic Pro X 10.7.6 under Ventura 13.1, and when I record multiple takes, takes one and two are great, but then they're off. Not while monitoring (I have really low latency through my Focusrite Clarett 4pre, Thunderbolt), but after the take, Logics analyses transients and moves the takes after the first two. This is really annoying, I keep having to comp, flatten and merge, and then do another take. I see other people have the same problem, but I hav not found a solution. Humbly, Ylan
I don't suppose there is a way to "unflatten" your comp back to the take folder later on when you realise a wrong inflection (syllable) needs to be replaced from one of the takes (in audiobook recording, so talent is long gone from the studio, no chance for retakes)?
good helpful video. One thing I wish you had addressed, that I’m not sure how to do, is how to adjust the way the various selected regions flow into each other. I come from ProTools, and when you make comp tracks you can separately adjust the Crossfade between the different selected sections. Is there a way to do that easily in logic pro? Because it looks like each edit is just an abrupt switch between takes
i kinda mix my vocals as i record them just so its kinda gives me refrence of what it would roughly sound like (final product kinda)....is this good practice?.....i record on a clean track then drop it down to my processed track to hear a kinda finished product, just so i know its sounds good in the mix and sounds the part??
Hellow, this is my first time in your chanel and i want to thank you for this video becouse i was looking for some video like this in spanish and found one but was not completed, do not explaind that you has to go to setup and ajust in record. Excuseme if there some word not right, becouse my native languaje is spanish. Thank you and God bless you now you win a subscriber.
Yo! I absolutely love what you do bro! One question: what if I wanna use the parts of the takes you didn’t put together in the main, to have as dubs? Always wondered about this
Did the author or someone have such a strange moment? In the session, recording is constantly in the "take folder" mode and suddenly... after a couple of hours of operation, this function is disabled and it is impossible to return it! There is no entry in "take folder" mode. No settings help. It remains to go back to the last saved file or create a new project.) Has anyone encountered an unexpected termination of this function in the project?
When you open your take folder, there is a little icon next to the Comp letter. It's just to the right of the comp letter. Click on that and it will allow you to freely edit the takes with Logic's normal edit tools, so you can move them around, delete them, etc.

Well explained, straight words and easy to understand. Thank you very much! Greetings all over from Hamburg in Germany.
Thank you so much for explaining this! I have always been a bit intimidated by the quick-swipe concept, but you are an excellent instructor. Thank you again!

You're a really great teacher, especially for the technologically challenged! Thank you!
BEST Logic teacher on UA-cam
I love your approach to this video. Knowledgeable and real!!
Great video, good pacing, very clear directions. I shudder to think of how I used to do this kind of work 10 years ago. 👍
Thanks from France. Explainations are clear and understandable. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
This is going to help me immensely, thank you very much for the video.
This demonstration was very helpful! Had to come down and say that you have a great voice too!

@@learnwithsalim1228 you mean bounce in place the composite take and leave those take folders there in case you need to come back later?

I love your stuff, thanks for doing this.
Another excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Enjoyed it very much. Helps me a lot! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

Flatten without merging, and then you can edit the individual regions and fades manually.
You don't have to stop recording. Just leave it cycling indefinately or until you think might have what you need (or your until throat is bleeding).

How do I remove a comp? Like I'm using the same take twice in a row and the crossfade kinda messes it up.
