- This video shows several repairs recently done to my 2009 Weber Genesis 310 grill. I replaced the burner assembly, flavorizer bars and the igniter. These recent repairs will provide several more years of use of this grill. All parts were purchased at www.grillparts.com. Thanks for watching.
I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.
Weber uses quality parts and when properly maintained, these grills will last decades. The parts are always available and easy to replace. Those cheaper grills don't last and the parts are not as available. You get what ya pay for!
Just a few tips...those screws on the left side that hold the burner tubes down don't actually get removed when taking out the burner tube assembly and says so in the instructions. The tubes just slip under them. Also, the propane tank isn't meant to sit on the bottom but it's supposed to hang on the tank hook and retainer that's part of the tank gauge on the right sidewall. I like to replace the bolts on the right side with stainless bolts (not carriage bolts) and that eliminates your grinding. What I like about Weber is great product support and part availability for decades. You can keep one of these going for 25+ years thanks to the design and ease of repair which makes them far superior to all other grills.
Thanks, they included new screws and I was a bit bummed that the older screws were seized in place. Gonna try leaving the existing screws and replace the new burners.
@@davewhiteman9532 It's best not to try to replace the hold down screws on the left side as removing them will strip the holes in the soft aluminum body and is NOT a fun time. Good luck!
All - thanks for sharing the warranty info. Had no idea burner tubes had a 10-year warranty! My replacement parts are on their way from Weber.
Just finished my rebuild! Went great now I’m making some ribs!!
Thanks for the video, FYI the burner tubes can be lifted and pulled out to the left with out disassembling the right side.
The difference in quality with Webers is obvious from first use and from the ability to repair. Reminds me of quality shoes, which can be restored/repaired during the lifetime of an adult. Not possible with cheap shoes. You did an amazing job with your grill and it was obvious that you enjoyed the restore process.
Great job! Getting ready to rebuild mine.
Thanks for this. I have a similar unit which I will rebuild. My igniter is *still working first time every time after 8 years
this video was excellent thank you for posting I like your style
Good video. Will rebuild mine and get another 8 years of service. Can't beat a Weber grill!
I am in the process of refurbishing the exact same grill. New grates, new starter assembly which was under warranty, new burners, new castors and new stainless flavour bars. I think I will go the extra step and have the cast Aluminium pit box cleaned by sand blasting
Great restoration! You can’t beat these old grills. The new ones just seem so “flimsy” compared to the old ones. I have an old Genesis 3 burner that I’ve kept going for many years, but it has come time to replace. Trying to find a good used one that I can rebuild.
Thanks for the kind words. Good luck.
Best of luck in your rebuild.
Thank you! I was able to replace my burner tubes thanks to you.
My pleasure!
Great video. I've got the exact same grill and needed something that showed how to disassemble and clean/replace the burners and crossover tube. I recently determined that mud wasps had plugged up the front burner tube on the gas valve end - and it was taking forever to get the middle and rear burners to light. This was very helpful.
I'm hoping that I don't have the fastener issues you had. I'm not into drilling, tapping, and grinding.
Glad to see it was helpful.
A couple of simple tricks regarding the removal of screws before you attempt to remove them.
1) spray with WD40 and leave over night
2)give the heads of the screws a few good taps with a hammer. This helps crack them loose
3)if they are still tight after doing the above, hit them with a blow torch to heat the screw and area
This will work if done properly and will save you a lot of work drilling and tapping etc etc
Nice video and great work. I do understand from other video and the comments here, that drill out and re-tapping the screws on the ends of the burner tubes was not necessary because they are just placement posts that should not need loosening or removal, ...but then again you made an improvement to a somewhat flawed design. I'm doing the same job this morning ... Coincidentally I am also accompanied by a black retriever/helper (also with an orange collar!).
ron giesbrecht thanks for the feedback.
I had the same grill but it had the side burner. I chose to replace it with a new one because the cart was quite rotten. I could literally tear the bottom pan out with my hands. I'm surprised that your burners are so bad. Mine were still in very good condition.
thank you and you are a life saver. thank you for all that you do!
Your welcome.
Thank you! That was very enlightening. I'm doing something similar to my father-in-laws Genesis 310 and wanted to see what someone else had done. 👍
Thanks!
CitizenPerkins my pleasure.
Great vid. Thank you.
Check other burner replacement video on here on You Tube. You did it the hard way. No need to replace screw heads in burner box, whole replacement should take about 10 minutes. Burner tubes covered under warranty, depending on age of unit, they are free from Weber
Peter O'Brien Burner tubes definitely free, mine are in the mail directly from Weber.

2 of my 3 burner tube bolts are seized (the lower 2 when standing in front). Not looking forward to trying to drill them out to likely have to re tap. I don't have screw extractor kit and wondering if I can just drill right through them and try and chisel them out (then drill larger size and retap accordingly). And hope replacing the ignitor assembly isn't too hard. Will recommence in the morning when its light out. Thanks for nice video.
320hp you could drill right through them. Just be sure it is a fresh drill and you use a center punch. Lots of lubrication too.
I watched this video because I had a gas leak at the 3rd burner manifold. In taking it apart I found the crossover tube to be corroded and mentioned this to Weber when I called to order the manifold turns out it was covered under warranty. Weber is shipping me complete set of new burner tubes with the new manifold that I paid a $100 for.
Job well done
I'm so glad I found your video I'm doing the exact same thing you are to the exact same model Grill. I'm also running into the same issue with the three screws attaching the burner tubes that you're showing in video time 6:40. I'm hoping you can maybe tell me what size drill bit you use to drill those out and subsequently the tap size, bolt size and etc. to put in the new bolts. Hopefully you're still monitoring your UA-cam account 🤞 your help would be so gratefully appreciated.
I’m still here. 😅 I don’t recall. Measure the bolt head size. Go 1/8” smaller dia than the head size. If I recall I centered punched the head and drilled a pilot hole first then followed with the larger bit. Lots of cutting oil!
I am disappointed. You did not show how you got your grill looking awesome. I wished you demonstrated how you made an old grill look brand new.
I now have a plan to restore my Genesis and look forward to the challenge. I have several Weber grills but the Genesis is the largest and they do last a long time and well worth the extra money. thanks for the video and helpful tips. How long did it take you to do the full restore?
It took me several hours to clean and break the unit down. The sanding and painting took 4-6 hours. The reassembly was 2-3 hours.
I had to drill out the 2 bolts that secure the manifold , that’s it
Nice job with the grill. I have a question, what kind of paint did you use on the backplate? Was it special heat recistive paint or ordinary paint? Thanks in advance :)
Jonathan Ek Asplund I used a rusty metal primer base coat and a Industrial gray top coat. For the backplate a high heat paint isn’t necessary.
Thank you!!!
Your welcome.
You did it the hard way. You only need to remove the burners from the far left. Dont touch anything on right side by knobs.
did the carriage bolt facing out ward work?
Those that drilled out the two manifold screws - how? I’ve tried several hardened bits (cobalt M42), 3in1 oil, 1/3hp corded drill, nothing seems to be working to drill them out. The bits are drifting & I feel like it’s drilling through the aluminum, not the screws. Appreciate any advice.
You will need a center punch. Use small drill with cutting fluid first. Then, if I recall I drilled out the hole slightly larger than the bolt diameter.
If you read Ee er instructions on their site you will see that a lot of what you did was unnecessary. For example the three screws holding down the burners should not be removed. They are their just as hold downs. Same for bottom panel. Easy to remove following manual directions. Beware
which igniter model did you use?.. i have the same grill
I purchased the Genesis 300 Series Electronic Ignitor Kit With White Ceramic Spark Box (2008 - 2010).
What is the replacement screw size?
All you had to do was unhinge the wire brackets that hold the manifold to the frame and take off 2 nuts that holds the manifold support bracket and pull straight out. Then all you had to was pull the burner tubes straight out. Lol. wow. The bolts at the end of the burner tubes are there just for guides. They are factory set.
woosa42 thanks so much for your post ? Couple ??s. How long did this take and where the best place to buy the parts needed ? Thank you for your time 📹
yo
lol. It can be done in about 10-15 minutes. It's pretty simple. You can get them at the Weber's site, or amazon, or pretty much any site that sells the original. Do not buy the after market ones! They were $44.99 for the Genesis Silver B at the first 2 sites i mentioned. If you take care of them they will last a long time. Cover grill if grill is left outside.
I have EP-300 version. he two rear tubes work fine but the first burner does not work. i don't understand how the LP gets to the first cross bar. any guidance?
Without seeing your specific problem my guess is you have a problem with the first gas knob/valve assy.
You forgot the heat reflector that goes between the bottom tray and burner tubes to evenly disperse heat.
The model he restored never had heat deflectors. I think those were on later models.
Where did you purchase

Can you help me where you buy parts?

Next time show us the screw removals.
Great Video. One clarification. To remove the burner assembly, you do NOT have to remove the black support under ignition side of the grill. I just spent a few hours trying to drill out screws , gave up, and then tried to pull assembly out from other side and it can be removed!!! have to remove ignition. See this video for example of that -> ua-cam.com/video/NRBpTcjydBs/v-deo.html
You did a really nice job. Every defect the factory built into that grill, you have now redone better than their original product. Specifically, the stainless socket screws and carriage bolts were a clever solutions to the inexcusable corrosion issues.
EXCUSE MY RANT: Weber's foreign fabricators must use some of the worst paint prep and worst paint on earth to paint their cabinet bases. My cabinet was so horribly rusted I had to disassemble the whole base of the grill, strip it, and repaint it. I think the factory did not even prime those bases.
Genesis and Spirit grills were imported from China, which might explain the horrible quality. I thought Weber would be American made.
In the future, I will try to buy real American made grills.
Thanks for your feedback. In the last month I replaced the tubes and flavorizer bars again. It took me ~20min tops.
@@the__tinkerer Bet those screws loosened right up with that anti-seize on them.
Weber stainless is junk rusts out a few yrs poor quality grills are made with steel screws .three times the price ss screws will add extra 5.00
Skimp on quality
Agreed.
seadooman o the best grill I’ve ever owned.
Why did you not show the entire reassembly of the gas tubes. Not interested in all the painting, drilling and tapping. After watching all the things I didn't need to know, the one main thing I wanted to see in this video, the installation of the gas manifold onto the 3 gas tubes, you blew off that part and didn't show. Should the tubes be tight or able to move in the tube socket? Are there any adjustments for the air shutters on the 3 tubes to get the right flame? Waste of time. Maybe another video somewhere else will show it.
Weber’s quality has gone down.
My grill less than a year old needs a manifold. My old Weber lasted 12 years without a problem.
Disappointed
Older Weber grills are much better. I have a new Spirit 210 and an old Spirit 300 I picked up from someone's trash. I prefer the older one and know that it will outlive the newer 210.
So slow at talking and then shows me nothing about how to do things. I wait to see how he sands the rest off with so much corrosion and then the next frame is painted with primer. THE actual work is what we want to see and NOT the talk about the work.
