Weber makes a terrific gas grill, but even they can have problems sometimes. Watch as I take you step by step replacing the ignitor in a Weber Genesis Gas Grill
This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.
Thanks Steve, Also have the Weber E-310. I never knew the igniter needed a battery. I've had the grill for about 7 years now and never had a problem. Put in a knew battery and it's working again. Can't believe the battery lasted so long !
Great! Glad the video helped. I only wished more of the suppliers ( Big Box Stores) knew about it and I didn't need to call in to support for the right part. Thanks for taking the time to comment
Two years ago, the igniter of our grill stopped working and we ordered a replacement. Once we got it, my mom asked me to replace it, but I told her I didn't know how. She told me to look it up on UA-cam, because you can find any solution to any problem on UA-cam. Sure enough, this was the first result, and it worked out very well. Your instructions were precise yet easy to understand. After watching, I was able to change it easily. It still works well to this day. I just want to thank you for the help. Very well done.
Nearly nine years later based on your video date and yet the timing is perfect. Giving my old grill to my son and tuning it up so it works well right out of the gate. Putting in the igniter was the next and last step. This informative video did the trick. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to make another man's work a lot easier.
thanks so much .. renovating my dad's 2007 Genesis .. and yes, we have done flattened tortillas that could pass for pizza, once they're pre-grilled in some oil using a crepe pan to give them a crispy quality
Wanted to take a moment to thank you for this excellent, step-by-step, all-inclusive instructional video surrounding changing the battery in the igniter and/or switching out the entire igniter system. My father passed in 2000, and he was always my "go-to" guy when something mechanical has gone awry. I actually had tears in my eyes while watching this video because the manner in which you teach/instruct is so very similar to the manner in which my father would have helped. Thanks . . . for the instruction, and for the memory.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just pulled my 2008 Weber E-310 out for the Summer and went through the yearly checks of ensuring it's safe to use (hoses, burners, flavorizer bars, grates, tank mount, igniter. The igniter button didn't produce that quiet and familiar clicking sound and, upon inspection, found the battery in the igniter had corroded (didn't even remember when it was last changed). When I attempted to gently remove it, a metal pin of some type inside fell out of the battery tube. So I decided I probably needed to replace the igniter. First thing I did was to call Weber for the correct part # and purchased this kit 2 days ago from my local authorized Weber dealer to replace the igniter on my 2008 Weber Genesis E-310 (that's the model you have. The E-320 has the side burner). The Weber part # for this specific igniter kit is 67847. It's readily available through either Weber or grillparts.com, if you don't have a well-stocked Weber dealer nearby. Although I'm not much of a DIYer, I'm going to install it this evening (first time I'll have ever done a repair to a grill). It looks to be fairly straight forward from your video. Thanks again for taking the time to go over the installation. Quick follow-up: I was able to change out the entire igniter switch system yesterday evening without any problems. Thanks, again, for your step by step "how to" video.
Great video, thanks for putting it together. For anyone else looking to fix their ignitor, here are couple of preliminary steps: 1. change the battery 2. check for corrosion on both of the battery contacts (this is the most common problem) 3. if some of the burners are igniting, check the electrical connections
No way! I had no idea there was a battery in the igniter button. I’ve been lighting mine with a flame for years once it stopped working. Watched your video, changed the battery and it works!! Thanks Steve!!
Great walk through if you have an older genesis! After market parts don't have instructions, and this is golden! Took me probably 5 minutes longer than this video so I could pause it!
I am a 67 year old grandma....followed the instructions and this is the most complete wonderful video . I called Weber they're sending me a new igniter hookup..Thank you
Really professionally done. Great video. I bought the same grill with the side burner when I retired. I haven't checked the battery yet, but at least now I'm not afraid I'll tear something up working on it. Thanks again
Thank you for this video Steve. This was a big help. I have the same genesis grill as you which I bought used and was not sure how to fix the ignitor. Turned out all I needed was a new battery. But now I know how to change the ignitor as well when the time comes. Thanks again, much appreciated.
Thank you Steve, this was exactly what I was looking for. I noticed 61 downvotes and can't understand why somebody would do it. We should appreciate people willing to share their experience and help others.
Thank you very much for this video. I was able to fix my ignition switch by watching your simple steps. I too went to the Webber sight and emailed them. They were quick to respond with my part number and mailed it out promptly. Great job sir!
I like your attitude, Steve. You're clearly a passionate, friendly guy. This video was very clear and concise. I got the same model grill as you have in the video for 65$ on craigs list. A steal, I know..! The only thing wrong with it is the ignitor. Thank you for giving me the info I need to get this grill back to tip top shape!
Thank you so much for this great info! We have the same grill and now we know how to fix it, thanks to you! Just ordered the kit on Amazon! Should be back to grilling soon!
Thank you for that straight forward informational video. You made it look easy and it was just that. My Weber is 14 years old and I'm tired of using a stick lighter . Now I just push the button and its lit.
Thank you so much - this is one of the best videos on UA-cam. Great video quality, great audio, very clear instructions. I was going to buy a new igniter but, after watching your super video and seeing how the igniter system works, I took the battery out and noticed that there was a little oxidation or corrosion on the battery contacts. I cleaned the contacts, replaced the battery, and cleaned the electrode - and that little thing is clicking away. Took me less than 10 minutes - THANKS TO YOU! Have a great summer.
Very useful video, it shows well how the igniter is assembled. The problem in my case was just oxidation of contacts, deep cleaning solved the issue. When you remove the plastic cap for changing the battery if you keep it in your left hand and push the button with the right thumb you see two small contact stripes on the sides. When you push the button those are supposed to touch the spring that you see inside the hole and close the circuit. I cleaned them and now it works fine. Check that before disassembling the whole thing.
Thanks for such an informative video! I have ordered the proper parts and now can't wait for them to arrive. With your video, install will be a breeze. Just what I needed!
Thanks Steve, had same problem & really did not know where to start until I saw your instructions. Battery did the trick. Old one, AAA, already leaking acid but a little denatured alcohol, long cotton tipped cleaner & small flat bladed screw driver as a scraper did the trick. Thanks again.
Thank you. I followed your lead. I was able to install ignitor kit. I think you are excellent at explaining and demonstrating how to get the job done. I think you are top notch.
Very well done video! I almost skipped it when I saw it was 11 minutes long, but I'm very glad I watched it. Your explanation was very detailed and very clear. Now I feel confident that I'll be able to replace the electronic igniter in my Weber E-210 grill.
Thank you, used this to have the confidence to do it ourselves and we are not "DIY" types, very helpful! Side control Genesis 320 and was super easy and bought the part off of amazon when Weber itself doesn't sell them but has the part number on the their site. Thanks again!
30 people have a Broil King. Awesome video! Now I can replace the starter on my Weber Genesis. I don't understand any of the thumbs down. This video shows you everything that you need to do.
What a great tutorial! It turns out that all I had to do was replace the battery, but I saw by your demonstration that the positive side needed to be down, and it worked. But if I ever need to replace the whole assembly I now know where to look. Thanks!
Great video, so easy to follow - thanks! Luckily, all I needed this time was to replace the battery but will be ready to take on replacing the ignitor when the time comes.
Thanks, Greg. I was frustrated by the lack of available info back when I shot this video, and even more surprised at how hard it was to find electronic igniters until I called Weber Support. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for the video! My ignitor had a battery corroded inside of it and completely fell apart as I attempted to get the battery out. I had tried to rig up an ignitor from a CharBroil grill, but couldn't figure out how to get the electrode out. I bought a replacement kit, and your video saved me some time figuring it out myself!
Thanks so much for such a helpful video ! I'm a 66 year old woman and with your help I was able to change this ignitor by myself ! Thanks again ! You've saved me a load of money by not needing to get someone in to help !!!!
Thank you. This was really helpful, and you helped us figure out that we also bought the wrong part. We will order the correct part and finish watching when we receive it.
WOW! That was nice! I like when people sound normal! Not flawless. Little misstatements and corrections help to validify your assist. Very nice!! Now! I hope it works for me. Need to find the part. But you really covered everything we need to know & demonstrated so perfectly!
Great video Steve. Very informative and well done. Thanks for the heads up on the different types of ignitors. I'm definitely going to give it a go. Thanks again.
Very nicely done. I agree gas grills are great especially on week nights when there is not as much time. But I can always kick up the flavor a few notches with my charcoal grills. I love Weber grills. It is a great idea to have both gas and charcoal. In fact having a Weber gas and a Weber kettle is a great combination. I often use both at the same time.
This was an excellent video I find myself having to take on this task today and I feel much better about doing it now. Thank You for such a well explained video and the clear instructions.
Thank you kind sir for the video, I have a weber exactly like yours with a bad ignitor and this video really saved the day for me. I have my parts ordered and looking forward now to getting it fixed, thank you so much.
Thanks for doing this very informative video. We just got a weber from a friend and the ignition doesn't work. Now my husband has a project for the weekend and we will have our friend over for dinner!
Thanks Steve. i didn't know there was a slot for my igniter. i thought the igniter was bad until i knew there was a slot. placed it properly in the slot and it just looks like the igniter is just fine after all and was placed wrong. thanks for that
hey - many thanks for doing this video. I just had to replace the ignitor on my Weber grill and I found it way more helpful than their instructions. Great job!
I have the same ignitor but there was a little debris in the bottom of the battery tube preventing a good connection. Tapped it out and works like a champ! Thanks for the great video!
Thank you. I did exactly what you did. I went to the store purchased the wrong part...... Nothing on the web site......Called Weber and ordered and received the correct part(s). Part number 67847 Igniter Kit Genesis 300 '08. Thank you for your video, VERY helpful and save me lots of time! Cheers!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I have the exact grill with the exact problem! I am going to try cleaning first, but will replace if necessary. Should that be the case, I will definitely pull this video back up to watch! Thanks again, and happy grilling!
This video worked great. Thanks. I have a Spirit grill instead of Genesis but the process was the same. In my case, I didn't need to replace the igniter. I just took it apart and cleaned out the battery contacts, replaced the battery. I tested it before putting it back together and it sparked as expected.
Thank you so much cause, i search, for instruction to know how to change or the burner or the battery and at last: I find your "How To" Capsules. "Your instruction are really consise and you are a good formator!!!"
Great video. I have a Charbroil with the same type ignitor and the same problem. Like you, I bought a universal replacement only to find it was the wrong type. Mine is a real bear to get to, but after watching this I believe I can tackle it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! I'm a single, 62 year old lady. I get tired always "waiting" for someone to come over to help do these kind of things. I just replaced it myself from your video! Yahoo!!
Thank you, very much appreciate your fine presentation. From watching this episode I could also see where to adjust the air flow to the burners, so you grilled 2 birds with one stone...LOL. THX again.
Good video I had the same grill igniter wasn't working I was just going to buy a new one but thanks to this video I got a new ignitor in my Weber grill it's working again thank you
Just had to replace my ignitor. Video was a great help. Didn't even looked at the the instructions that came with the ignitor. Great job! Thanks for making and posting.
Just setting up a new Weber Spirit and couldn't figure how the igniter worked. Thought it was broken. Come to find out we were expecting the igniter button to push 1/4" or so down to send a spark. Come to find out, we weren't pushing and holding the button long enough to hear the switch working. It barely moves. Simple solution! All is well with the new grill. Thanks for the video.
Just bought this e-310 used at an estate sale. This old e-310 Weber grill doesn't have any rust on the body anywhere except the burners aren't all shiny and new looking, but they aren't rusted out either. Good job Weber for making an excellent quality gas grill! Anyway, Thanks for making this video Steve. The igniter is the only thing NOT functioning because the battery exploded inside. Your video is still relevant 11 years later. Weber doesn't make it easy to find the igniter parts for their old grills. My igniter has the part number 1819-51 on it, but Weber's website doesn't have it listed anywhere on their website. There are lots of Chinese knock offs on Amazon. I'll give Weber a call before I buy a cheap knock off since the old one lasted so long. Besides Weber deserves our business even if it's just ordering a part. I'll definitely only buy Webers going forward! Again, thanks for the great video Steve! Appreciate the time and effort you put into making it! Cheers!
Thanks, Doug, I agree, I'm not sure why they make it so difficult to find the correct part. I have however, found their customer support line very helpful. That's how I finally found the correct igniter. And I completely agree about the Weber Quality. I had some Big Box grills before I bought the one in the video. Sold it maybe 5 years later when I upgraded to a larger Summit. Webers just last! Glad the old video helped, Doug!
Love my weber Genesis silver B Grill. i'm now replacing the grates and flavorizer bars for the fourth time. I grill sometimes six days a week. weber makes an awesome product and in 2020 I will retire her and buy a new weber!
Thanks, Chris. That was why I made it - I found it hard to find the right parts. Living in the Dakotas now and can't wait for warmer weather- miss my grilling time
This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. Glad I could help. Thanks for leaving a comment that this old video is still helpful.
Appreciate the steady non-hand held camera angles. My grill is an E-320. Bought the kit, thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for your comment, Pete. I agree, that's always been one of my pet peeves - shaky footage and jump cuts. Glad it helped.
Thanks Steve, Also have the Weber E-310. I never knew the igniter needed a battery. I've had the grill for about 7 years now and never had a problem. Put in a knew battery and it's working again. Can't believe the battery lasted so long !

Thanks so much for watching. Am glad this old video could help. Those tortillas sound tasty. Keep on grilling.
11 years later and this is still so relevant. You helped me to identify and install the new part. Thanks so much!
Thanks, Tricia. Glad I left it up there... Yes, 11 years later I'm 11 years older and 60 lbs lighter! Too much grilling!

This is great I've had a similar Weber for three years and have never used the igniter! Thank you.
Thank you Steve, this was exactly what I was looking for. I noticed 61 downvotes and can't understand why somebody would do it. We should appreciate people willing to share their experience and help others.

Thank you so much for this great info! We have the same grill and now we know how to fix it, thanks to you! Just ordered the kit on Amazon! Should be back to grilling soon!
this was a perfect tutorial for the repair I needed to make. This guy is like your old uncle Fred, but very helpful and clear instructions.
WICKED AWESOME EXPLANATION! WITH YOU HERE. I CAN KEEP MY GRILL FOREVER!
I agree with Phil. Thanks so much. It was a breeze to change the ignition system and just as you showed.
Thank you for that straight forward informational video. You made it look easy and it was just that. My Weber is 14 years old and I'm tired of using a stick lighter . Now I just push the button and its lit.

What a calm and easy to follow presentation. Thanks, Steve. My replacement kit is coming today and I feel confident.

Just installed my new igniter switch. I am 70 years old, and able to do it myself. Easy and thank you!!! Very helpful!
30 people have a Broil King.
Awesome video! Now I can replace the starter on my Weber Genesis. I don't understand any of the thumbs down. This video shows you everything that you need to do.
Thanks Steve. Your video is very easy to follow so now I feel empowered to replace the igniter on my Weber Genisis grill.
Excellent! Just what I needed to understand how to take apart, inspect and repair!
Thank you for this really clear demonstration. I completed this fix this morning and it was much quicker than it would have been without this video.
Great instructional video. Step by step and good close ups of what to do. Very well done
Thanks, Greg. I was frustrated by the lack of available info back when I shot this video, and even more surprised at how hard it was to find electronic igniters until I called Weber Support. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you so much for the clarity of the video and your explanation on replacing this part!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow, you made me a genius! Who knew the starter had a battery! Easy peasy, a new AA and viola, flame. Thanks heaps.
Thanks for the Great Video I have been putting off doing a replacement and now this gives me the push to get it done.

Perfect step by step. Thank you.

Great demonstration. Explained in an understandable way. Thanks so much!
Wow.....don't have any idea how much time I've spent attempting to fix this thing! Thanks you for demo, part #, and contact # for Weber. Thank You
Really appreciate you taking the time to make this, I was stuck on how to insert the igniter piece. Enjoy South Texas!
Thanks for the nice compliment. It was an interesting journey, figuring out how to get the right igniter. Glad I could help...
Great video. I liked how clear and thorough your walk through was!
Thank you. This was really helpful, and you helped us figure out that we also bought the wrong part. We will order the correct part and finish watching when we receive it.
Thanks for your comments. Frustrating that they made it so hard to find the right part, but customer service was a great help at Weber. Good Luck!
WOW! That was nice! I like when people sound normal! Not flawless. Little misstatements and corrections help to validify your assist. Very nice!! Now! I hope it works for me. Need to find the part. But you really covered everything we need to know & demonstrated so perfectly!

Thank you so much
Easy fix! I love my Genesis but having a bear of a time finding the part at a local retailer. I'll email them per your suggestion. Thanks!
Great video Steve. Very informative and well done. Thanks for the heads up on the different types of ignitors. I'm definitely going to give it a go. Thanks again.

Thanks, Steve. Gonna use these steps to troubleshoot my igniter. Hopefully I can just fix it myself without a replacement. Cheers!
Thanks. This was great-exactly what I needed to know to fix my igniter.
Works perfectly! Thank you. Great video and explanation.
Thank you Mr. Howard. This helped me out. Keep grilling and enjoy your retirement.
Thanks for this upload. Very helpful. I was given this exact model and you explained in great detail.

Thank you kind sir for the video, I have a weber exactly like yours with a bad ignitor and this video really saved the day for me. I have my parts ordered and looking forward now to getting it fixed, thank you so much.
So glad it helped, even though it's an older model. Thank you
Thanks Steve! I have the same problem with my grill. I'll definitely use your great info to help me fix it.
Thanks for doing this very informative video. We just got a weber from a friend and the ignition doesn't work. Now my husband has a project for the weekend and we will have our friend over for dinner!

Well done and you are very patient. Simple instructions...Thank you!
Great job!
Great instructional video...changed the battery and works like a charm..Thanks
Thanks so much for putting together the video! Very straight forward and easy to understand

Thanks for the correct part number!
Thank you Sir! Great instruction! Much easier than trying to read the directions! Cheers Steve!
Awesome, easy to follow instructions! Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for doing this. It made my replacement very easy.
Great video! It was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks much for taking the time to make it.
Thanks for the video, very helpful!
Great how to video. Got my Weber fixed in no time, thanks for your help!
Thank you! This was a godsend. Ur a great teacher!
Followed your steps-worked perfectly
Thanks, Michelle. Glad it helped.
Thank you so much! I'm a single, 62 year old lady. I get tired always "waiting" for someone to come over to help do these kind of things. I just replaced it myself from your video! Yahoo!!
I just re-tried the igniter with am replacement aaa battery. It worked!!!! Thanks a LOT!
Thank you, very much appreciate your fine presentation. From watching this episode I could also see where to adjust the air flow to the burners, so you grilled 2 birds with one stone...LOL. THX again.
Excellent job Steve. Thank You
Thanks for watching and glad it helped.
Good video I had the same grill igniter wasn't working I was just going to buy a new one but thanks to this video I got a new ignitor in my Weber grill it's working again thank you
This video was very helpful! Thank you.
Thank you, you are a great teacher.
Thank you for the video, it will speed up my repair.
Thanks Todd. Thats why I made it - to help save others some of the time it took me to find the right igniter.
Excellent Video with really clear instructions - thanks so much.
Thanks, Chris. That was why I made it - I found it hard to find the right parts. Living in the Dakotas now and can't wait for warmer weather- miss my grilling time
