This was their first Top 40 hit in the US, in 1974. A year later, "Bohemian Rhapsody" came out, and the rest is history. I recommend "You're My Best Friend" for your next one. For your next Meat Loaf song, I recommend "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".
Yes, they should absolutely react to *You’re My Best Friend* ! - written by the incredible bassist John Deacon while he was teaching himself to play an electric piano, about his new bride Veronica (with whom he still shares his life - 47 years of marriage!)
"She keeps her Moet & Chandon in a pretty cabinet...Well-versed in etiquette...she spoke just like a baroness...fastidious and precise, she's a killer queen." Brilliant lyrics, really unique for a rock band.
The great thing about Queen is that all 4 of them wrote nr1 hits, not just Freddie, even bassplayer John Deacon, the quiet guy, wrote some of the biggest hits like "Aother one bites the dust", "You're my best friend" and, "I want to break free"
When I was 13 1974 this was a big hit and nobody was ready yet for the Diamond Freddie and Queen , I remember being mesmerized by his voice and looks. What a beautiful man. Pity he cut his hair 🙂

I literally pulled my car over to listen when this came on the radio. I had never heard anything like this before. The vocals and the guitar tone blew me away! I was 18 when this came out.
Queen did the soundtrack for the movie “Highlander” which is one of the reasons I love that movie! “Who wants to live forever” and “Princes of the Universe” are two of my favorites from the movie!
I came here SPECIFICALLY to suggest those two songs, along with "Friends will be Friends," and for a good cry, "These Are the Days of Our Lives," one of his very last videos before he died. It's mournful, hopeful, and a bitter-sweet good-bye.
One of the best guitar riffs you’ll ever hear is on “Tie your Mother Down”. Don’t let the lyrics scare you, just a lot of metaphors…the guy just wants some space. 😁
I disagree. I was around sixteen when that came out and was seriously besotted with my new blonde blue-eyed girlfriend with the face of an angel and the figure of Ursula Andres, whilst the morals of an uninhibited she-devil. It was winter (freezing cold and raining constantly) and the only place we could get it together was at the home she shared with her parents and brothers. There were no "metaphors" as far as I was concerned. I just wanted her entire family tied down so I could get at the goodies. LOL
That is the song that my brother introduced me to Queen with. He gave me the album for my 14th birthday and said to listen to that first. I actually loved Teo Torriate (sp?) and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy. When I hear those, I am an angsty teen again lol!
Queen’s last hit with Freddie Mercury, recorded when his health was really declining - “The Show Must Go On”. Musically awesome, emotionally heavy, and embodies Freddie Mercury’s persistence perfectly.
“The Red Special" as Brian May's guitar is called or sometimes “The Fireplace.” That’s the guitar that Brian May (guitarist of Queen and physics researcher) began building with his father circa 1963, when Brian was about 16 years old. Lacking money but not ingenuity, the father-son team built the guitar using materials found around the home. The neck of the guitar was fashioned from an 18th-century fireplace mantel, the inlays on the neck from a mother-of-pearl button. For the body, they used wood from an old oak table. Then the bricoleurs combined a bike saddlebag holder, a plastic knitting needle tip, and motorbike valve springs to create a tremolo arm. He still plays it as of last night at the Queen + Adam Lambert concert in Belfast Ireland.
@@jeffpetrimoulx6806 There's a good vid of Brian explaining it in detail. Titled; "Queen guitarist Brian May talks about building the Red Special guitar", 6:27 minutes, posted 2014 on the Absolute Radio channel (I hesitate to put in links, because UA-cam seems to randomly delete some posts with links).
Appreciate you detailing that. To my ears, that sound is completely Brian's own. I know no one had ever sounded like that before, and I don't think anyone ever really has since. Possibly even guitarists inspired by him still sort of steered clear of copying him too much, just because it is immediately identifiable.
I love how much you appreciate Freddie Mercury's stage performance as well as his incredible voice. He was unique and gifted musician and I was very much heartbroken when we learned he had AIDS and then when he passed away so soon after. I think it hit so close to home for me because I was hospice worker caring for AIDS patients for much of the 1980s. But I am thankful for the legacy of amazing music that he left behind and for the remaining members of Queen who have so diligently kept the music alive.
Nearly 50 years, repeat, 50 years old now!! I seem to remember Queen had had a minor hit with Seven Seas of Rhye, but this one put them in the big time.
I was visiting a friend in Madison, Wisconsin listening to some music and he played Queen's first album. The first song was Keep Yourself Alive, and it just blew me away!
I love that you two really enjoy and appreciate Freddie Mercury's theatricality and, with that in mind, I do wonder if you have managed to watch any of the recorded interviews with him; if not yet, you will be so surprised 😄 I am old enough to remember Queen from the beginning in the 70's, and I have never forgotten the first time I heard him speak at length; how totally different he was to how I was expecting in his speech and mannerisms.... 😊

I'm so glad you guys did a Queen song from the 70's. Yes, Freddie with long hair! Have you already done the songs "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" or do you already know these from sports games?
Pink Floyd's set at Knebworth in the early 90s (the headliner of a truly epic collection of legends) was every bit as compelling, just more focused on the music than crowd interaction... even the TV audience was hypnotized by Pink Floyd's magic (without the benefit of their brilliant laser light show).

He always has the Mic stand because often times he would struggle getting the Mic loose from the stand, so unstead he began just grabbing the entire stand to avoid the trouble ! (I highly recommend the film Bohemian Rhapsody with Rami Malek playing Freddie)
I think you got 'glam Freddie' tonight. This is how I first was introduced to them. This song. This Freddie. His song lyrics are clever, well-written & doesn't Freddie look so fine in his fox fur jacket? Notice the fingernails on his left hand are painted in black polish. Notice the fingernails on Brian's left hand are painted in white. Lovely fellows. Thank you for your reaction.
This song is so underrated; it's truly a masterpiece. It has everything that makes a great Queen song great. The harmonies, Brian's guitar solo/layered harmonics, and the quirky style . As for what's next, you could pick just about anything and it will be so different than what you've heard before. If you really want to go deep into what Brian is capable of as a guitarist, check out "Good Company." He plays an entire dixieland jazz band with his guitar. Truly amazing!

They have so many good songs, it’ll take you years to get through all of them. Here are a bunch in chronological order: Keep Yourself Alive, Doing All Right, Seven Seas of Rhye, March of the Black Queen, Stone Cold Crazy, You’re My Best Friend, The Prophet’s Song, Love of My Life, Somebody to Love, Tie Your Mother Down, Play the Game, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Hammer to Fall, Who Wants to Live Forever, I Want It All, These Are the Days of Our Lives (Freddie’s last video), The Show Must Go On
@@paulmargett9360 Not according to Wiki. They’re both on the Innuendo album with These are the Days … released a month earlier than Show Must Go On. Of course, Wiki could be wrong.
Stone Cold Crazy shows another side of the genius that is Freddie Mercury and Queen. I listened to this album, Sheer Heart Attack, on repeat when I was a teenager in the 70s, along with Queen II and A Night at the Opera.
first time i heard Killer Queen was in ‘74 while at band camp…i was walking through the cafeteria, and this song came on…it LITERALLY stopped me in my tracks…that was the day i became a Queen fan…
So glad you've got back to the greatest group ever to have existed ( in my opinion) For more classic Queen try "We are the Champions" "We Will Rock You" "Somebody to Love" "Show must go On" or Freddie's duet with Montserrat Caballe "Barcelona". Please show some respect to the other members of the group. Brian May on lead guitar, John Deacon on Bass and Roger Taylor on drums. All four members wrote hits for the band. Much love from England 🏴
One of the most beautiful and amazing performances by Queen is “White Queen” live at Hammersmith Odeon. Features a long section with Freddie on Piano and Brian playing his guitar. Written by Brian May about a girl he was attracted to in school but never took the opportunity to approach her. It’s a remarkable piece of music. Video here: ua-cam.com/video/f8usNj4x9NA/v-deo.html
YES! I think it's one of my favorite Queen songs. Hard to pick just one but I do find myself playing White Queen (especially that version) over and over. With Queen it's a mood thing. They pretty much have something for every mood you could possibly have.
Such a beautiful song came out of Brian....because he was too shy and had a thing for a girl in high school (Her loss!!!) He never approached her. Interesting when you find out what things or memories bring out such epic songs from a songwriter.
Love this song. It was their first breakthrough hit in North America - 1974 from their third album Sheer Heart Attack - a terrific album in its own right. Check Leroy Brown to get a taste of this genius group’s versatility.
you guys are non joking about Freddie being unique. I saw them live in1986 in Budapest and at the middle of the show Freddie sang a Hungarian folk-song in Hungarian of course everyone in the audience celebrated this. we were like 60thousand people in the main soccer- stadium of the country this I will never forget! BTW of course their most iconic song is the Bohemian rhapsody, but my favorite queen song is: was it all worth it
Guys, I am a fan of Queen right from the early seventies. Arguably some of their best stuff came from their first Albums. You must try out Queen's live performances from that era - White Queen, Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Freddie is on fire.
One of my favorite facts is that Brian May, the lead guitarist, built the guitar he uses. He also has a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London.
"Spread Your Wings"; "Get Down, Make Love"; "Liar"; "Death on Two Legs"; "One Vision"; "39"; "Brighton Rock"; "Tie Your Mother Down"; "Ogre Battle" are just a few Queen Sons for reactions.
@@jasonszabo9203 Been a Queen fan since 1973. My favorite group. Didn't even mention other great songs like: "The Prophet Song"; "Father to Son"; "March of the Black Queen"; "Son and Daughter"; "Doing All Right" (A song originally recorded by Smile); "Stone Cold Crazy": (first ever Thrash Metal song); and so many more. Heck, from pick any album from Queen 1 through The Game, you could react to just about any song. Even filler tracks on the Game like "Dragon Attack" and "Sail Away Sweet Sister" are good songs..

And your reactions are so refreshing and upbeat when this old man is tired and beat down. Thanks for jamming with me..Love ya both! Have a great day !
You should listen to the Queen song "Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" which is amazing to me as it is lyrically portraying the painting by English artist Richard Dadd (from the 1800s) -- It is a beautiful painting and I have a print on my wall.
First Queen song I ever heard and I was hooked. A friend from another town gave me three albums (vinyl) Queen, Queen l and A Day at the Races, so I immediately bought a Night at the Opera. I was happy to be the first of my friends to have and know their music. They hadn’t had much radio play yet. Then Bohemian Rhapsody happened…
This was the very first song by Queen that I ever heard, back in the day (I know, I don't look that old😜), and it is still great. Freddy is, arguably, the greatest Rock singer of all time. And, the rest of the band are terrific as well, making up one of the greatest groups in Rock history. There is another great Rock singer, Jon Anderson, of Yes, who is also in one of the greatest bands ever, and I wish you knew him better. His voice is ethereal, almost heavenly. Yes is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which has not even inducted Blue Oyster Cult yet (which is a musical crime, by the way). Yes is Big Time, and yet you guys, whom I love, have reacted to them only once, and not even to one of their best songs, even though OOALH is a very good song. So, please, give their greatness another listen. "Roundabout" is always the best song to hear upon first listening to Yes. It is stunning.
Some more Queen you may not have done: "A Kind of Magic", "I Want it All", "Play the Game", "Hammer to Fall", "You're My Best Friend", "Need Your Loving Tonight" and "These are the Best Days of Our Lives".
Queen is one of the biggest British rock bands formed in 1970. Freddie Mercury had one of the best voices around with an amazing range. He was a real showman as the live concerts show. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is their most famous song but they had so many great hits in the 70's-90's such as "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Love Of My Life", "You're My Best Friend", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Somebody To Love", "Fat Bottomed Girls", "The Show Must Go On" etc.
If you want to hear the playful side of Queen, then you couldn't do worse than to listen to/react to, 'Seaside Rendezvous', 'Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon', or, 'Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy.'
After watching this on Top of the Pops, I fell in love with Queen. I even got a detention and was sent to the year head as I went to school wearing 'Freddie nail polish' Black nails on one hand only! 😁
This was the first Queen song I ever heard, and i loved it, great lyrics, great musical composition, reminded a bit of the great compositions of forties and fifties cinema musicals. Great prelude to the Bohemian Rhapsody that blew me away a year later.
If you really want your mind totally blown by Queen and Freddie, I recommend watching their entire Live Aid performance from 1985 (6 songs, 22 minutes). It shows why Freddie is arguably the best frontman of all time. He plays the audience like they are his instrument. I was 15 at the time, and it blew me away.

Love that song.(Good Company)
I call it Queens 'Beatle's' song. Because it reminds me of the Beatles.
The drums - different little phrases. Not realised before how the drum support varies so much.
@@beandean23 I never really thought about it, but it does kind of sound like a Beatle's song.

Ha, ha! I had to.
They have so many good songs, it’ll take you years to get through all of them. Here are a bunch in chronological order:
Keep Yourself Alive, Doing All Right, Seven Seas of Rhye, March of the Black Queen, Stone Cold Crazy, You’re My Best Friend, The Prophet’s Song, Love of My Life, Somebody to Love, Tie Your Mother Down, Play the Game, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Hammer to Fall, Who Wants to Live Forever, I Want It All, These Are the Days of Our Lives (Freddie’s last video), The Show Must Go On
Some interesting choices there (favourites of yours)?
I think you'll find Show must go On came before These are the Days 😊
@@paulmargett9360 Not according to Wiki. They’re both on the Innuendo album with These are the Days … released a month earlier than Show Must Go On. Of course, Wiki could be wrong.
It's the voice.. he sings like an angel. It's unrivaled.
You guys REALLY need to check out "Stone Cold Crazy" by Queen. It's such a banger, Metallica even did a cover of it!! You won't be disappointed.
YESSS... Live at the Rainbow in 1974!🖖
Stone Cold Crazy shows another side of the genius that is Freddie Mercury and Queen. I listened to this album, Sheer Heart Attack, on repeat when I was a teenager in the 70s, along with Queen II and A Night at the Opera.
The Whole LP!!!
@@caroleann_2142 That goes without saying...LOL!
first time i heard Killer Queen was in ‘74 while at band camp…i was walking through the cafeteria, and this song came on…it LITERALLY stopped me in my tracks…that was the day i became a Queen fan…
This song changed my world when it came out. Epic!
Thanks for the memory :)
I can’t think of anybody better at combining piano and guitar than Queen.
So glad you've got back to the greatest group ever to have existed ( in my opinion)
For more classic Queen try "We are the Champions" "We Will Rock You" "Somebody to Love" "Show must go On" or Freddie's duet with Montserrat Caballe "Barcelona".
Goodness yes. For more young Queen from the '70s, ***** "White Queen -Live at the Hammersmith/Odeon 12/21/75" - ****** YEEEESSSSSS. THIS ONE NEXT!
Thank you it was absolutely beautiful!! Can’t believe I’ve never heard it..
Such a beautiful song came out of Brian....because he was too shy and had a thing for a girl in high school (Her loss!!!) He never approached her.
Interesting when you find out what things or memories bring out such epic songs from a songwriter.
White Queen just blows my mind! One of my all time Queen favorites!! Amazing
Theatrical Freddy ?? Is there another kind?
Umm... MORE theatrical Freddie? You're right, he was the ultimate showman.
Love Of My Life - Live at Wembly
I love Brian May's super-saturated guitar solo, in triple harmony at points.
I didn't like Queen much in the 80s Their music was way better in the 70s Heres proof1974
QUEEN-THE PROPHET SONG
Their 'magnum opus' in my opinion!
For a little softer side of Queen, check out "You're My Best Friend". It is truly lovely.
nobody can switch their voice up like Freddie he gives you 10 vocalists in one song. His range & expression are unmatched. he takes you on a journey
Freddie was so talented.
So was the rest of the band
Freddie Mercury was one of Michael Jackson's idols...Michael used to go to the Queen concerts.
You're My Best Friend is one of Queen's greatest songs
Love this song. It was their first breakthrough hit in North America - 1974 from their third album Sheer Heart Attack - a terrific album in its own right. Check Leroy Brown to get a taste of this genius group’s versatility.
You guys need to see their Live Aid performance from 1985. Iconic moment in music
you guys are non joking about Freddie being unique. I saw them live in1986 in Budapest and at the middle of the show Freddie sang a Hungarian folk-song in Hungarian of course everyone in the audience celebrated this. we were like 60thousand people in the main soccer- stadium of the country this I will never forget! BTW of course their most iconic song is the Bohemian rhapsody, but my favorite queen song is: was it all worth it
I’d love to see you revisit Steely Dan. It’s been a minute since you last heard them. “Black Cow”, “Hey Nineteen”, “Peg” are all great choices.
Spread Your Wings is one you will enjoy. Kind of Queen on full display. Great story, powerful music and Freddie
Such a versatile band, this was their second big hit in the UK, a complete contrast to their first hit Seven Seas Of Rhye but just as great.
Queen is Alpha God tier. They harmonize so perfectly. The instruments are impeccable, sustained, and perfectly tuned for their vocals.
Nice reaction! Try Mason Williams “Classical Gas”!🤘🔥
Guys, I am a fan of Queen right from the early seventies. Arguably some of their best stuff came from their first Albums. You must try out Queen's live performances from that era - White Queen, Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Freddie is on fire.
Thank you Jay and Amber for more Queen. Killer Queen was one of their earlier hits. It’s soooo good. Love this. Miss Queen and Freddie.😊❤️
I came back from a school concert in 1974, put on the TV and watched Top of the Pops. I was hooked 😎
Thank you. Needed some Freddie.
This is the song , along with 'Flick of the Wrist" on the "B" side way back late 1974 , Queen has been my religion since ! 🙂
One of my favorite facts is that Brian May, the lead guitarist, built the guitar he uses. He also has a PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London.
Yes, and a real, earned Doctorate, not some honorary degree. That means advanced math in there too. Smart dude.
"Spread Your Wings"; "Get Down, Make Love"; "Liar"; "Death on Two Legs"; "One Vision"; "39"; "Brighton Rock"; "Tie Your Mother Down"; "Ogre Battle" are just a few Queen Sons for reactions.
Great suggestions! You're obviously a true Queen fan, not just a Greatest Hits fan.
I could tell you were a proper fan. You mentioned pretty much all of my favorite tracks. I always laugh to myself when I talk to someone who claims to be a Queen fan, and I tell them my favorite tracks are Brighton Rock, or Death On Two Legs, or The Prophet's Song etc, and they look at me blankly, then reply "oh, my favorite is "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" 🤣
@@jasonszabo9203 - So true. Although Queen's "Live Aid" performance is excellent - it's just a few of their biggest hits, yet everyone wants every reaction UA-camr to react to that performance.
Me? I'll take any performance from Live At The Rainbow, 74 over the Live Aid show.
One of my faves.... Liar ua-cam.com/video/AdWtxjfmKC4/v-deo.html
@@jasonszabo9203 With Queen's catalogue, hard to pick a favorite. Besides Liar, I've always loved this song...Spread Your Wings (Live) ua-cam.com/video/lidb8SQNYeo/v-deo.html
Ahh Queen... far too many tracks to recommend but what I will is , You take my breath away, quite simply one of the greatest love songs ever
Hi jay and amber ! Incredible harmonies in this one..Seen queen in 1976.. great concert ..Your kindness is a highlight for me after a long day..YOU'RE BOTH A CLASS ACT ! And your reactions are so refreshing and upbeat when this old man is tired and beat down. Thanks for jamming with me..Love ya both! Have a great day !
Listen to Death on Two Legs.
Jackie Wilson Your Love is Lifting me Higher
You should listen to the Queen song "Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" which is amazing to me as it is lyrically portraying the painting by English artist Richard Dadd (from the 1800s) -- It is a beautiful painting and I have a print on my wall.
I didn't know about the painting. I'll look it up. But the song, as you say, is a masterpiece.
@@jibteenuc9836 Yes, look at the painting as you listen to the song.
Love how your wall gets bigger and bigger and every one of them iconic. You have great taste!
If you want to hear the playful side of Queen, then you couldn't do worse than to listen to/react to, 'Seaside Rendezvous', 'Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon', or, 'Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy.'
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy is my favourite 😁
Or don’t stop me now
After watching this on Top of the Pops, I fell in love with Queen.
Amber , i can pick up that you love the production and mixing of this gem !!!!!!!
It was my 21st birthday and I was thinking, "Best present ever!" during their set.
Been waiting for this one!
