The bassist John Deacon wrote this song for his wife. All these years later they are still best friends. I saw them play this live in 1976 with my best friend and we are still best friends. ✌️♥️🎶
John taught himself to play the piano specifically to write this song.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@leomarshall4059Yeah, apparently Freddie wouldn’t play an electric piano because he thought it was beneath him or something. Didn’t stop him from playing all those shitty-sounding synthesizers in the 80’s, though…
John wrote this for Veronica, his wife of 40+ years, he also learned to play the keyboard for this song.
Came here to say this.
They’ll be celebrating their 49th anniversary in January 😊
I love that Amber pointed out how great the band's backup vocals are. It is hard to notice sometimes, because Freddy commands so much attention.
And Roger Taylor's tremendous falsetto is often the icing on the cake.
Finally!
@@thundernels ummmm,no. Actually Roger AND Brian are incredible singers as well. So most b vox are the 3 men together
ua-cam.com/video/-jhiK2ncW40/v-deo.htmlsi=367XEWsxxOvEKDH7 --- VIDEO OF THE MAKING OF THIS SONG...
Roger’s vocals are really underrated. In fact, they all have good voices, but Roger is great.
Freddie insisted that John play the electric piano himself because it was a 'vulgar instrument'. I'm glad he did, as it's nice to see some more of John's talent and versatility.
6:00 J said to Amber: "That's one of my new songs to you!" .....how totally sweet!🥰 Did anyone else catch that? Did Amber even catch that??🤔 He was very sincere and had a huge smile on his face.☺ I give J props for being so sweet to Amber!🤗
I did and it was phenom 👍
I caught it, and was thinking the same as you wondering if Amber really grabbed on to the comment like he intended. ❤
@@tinagriggs1004Think she did, but that's not for the channel to see ;)
The bass player John Deacon wrote this about his wife. He’s also the writer of Another One Bites the Dust. Every member of Queen wrote worldwide hit songs for the band. These 4 guys were unbelievably talented.
John Deacon wrote this with a lot of support from Freddie. Roger thought it was too pop and light for a “Rock” band but it ended up being one of their biggest hits
I thought it sounded like John Deacon's hand in this from listening to the strong bass guitar beat. The bass in this sounds simple, but is catchy and played with a texture that I can't describe.
The movie Bohemian Rhapsody has a scene where this song and Bohemian... are discussed. The record company doesn't want the song Bohemian Rhapsody to be the feature song... too long, etcetera...
Funny thing they say the kids will never sing that at the top of their lungs in the car... but Wayne's World did!!! 😅
The record executives wanted "Your my Best Friend" to be the featured song. They stated "The one Witten by your drummer Roger" that was in the movie...
Interesting to see a different story line from you Karenj. And cool.😊
It's my second fave by Queen; my fave is "Fat Bottomed Girls" third fave is "Bicycle Race"
Hi! I always thought great bass but are we sure the prominent low notes are not the keyboard?
I'm 68 years old I have to tell you you two have the biggest hearts .I wish you all of gods love
"Who Wants To Live Forever" is an absolute must. You get amazing vocals from both Freddie & Brian.
Yes!Totally! You guys would love the original "Highlander " Queens soundtrack is in the entire movie.😊
That is my favorite 😊
Highlander would be a good movie watch...
Mee too👍
princes of the universe is also great@@ninawest8
John wrote this song for his lovely young bride Veronica … they are still together and will be celebrating their 49th anniversary in January
Bass player John Deacon wrote this song. It's him playing the dominant electric piano here. Freddie did not like the idea of electric piano in a Queen song - till John said "wait till you hear this".
Queen is so versatile. Even ragtime style, the song Seaside Rendezvous!!! And even different languages. Let Us Cling Together has multi language in the lyrics. Mustapha is a mind blowing song. So many Queen classic out there!!!
Mustapha, Mustapha! 👑♥
That’s “Teo Torriate ( Let Us Cling Together)” , lyrics in Japanese and English.
There is also “Las Palabras de Amor” (The Words of Love) with lyrics in Spanish and English.
Seaside Rendezvous is fire!
Seaside Rendezvous isn’t a “ragtime” style song. It’s in the “English Music Hall” style. Ragtime is an American style of music. This song is more closely related to American Vaudeville, than ragtime.
“You’re My Best Friend” was written by the band’s bass player, John Deacon, who has also written their mega-hit “Another One Bites the Dust”. He composed this love song for his new wife, Veronica Tetzlaff, whom he married in January 1975, shortly before the album was recorded.
John enjoyed a mostly quiet home life, particularly in the early days of Queen. He was very shy and quiet. It took a good deal of time before he worked up the nerve to bring the song to the band.
John learned to play the electric piano for this song. Freddie normally played piano for Queen but gave a big fat “NO” when the band purchased a Wurlitzer electric piano. As Freddie said, “I refused to play that damn thing. It’s tiny and horrible and I don’t like them. Why play those when you have a lovely superb piano?”
John said in a later interview, “Freddie didn’t like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that’s the song that came out when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that.”
FYI - You're My Best Friend was used in an AT&T commercial and a PetSmart commercial showing a dachshund and his owner going into the kitchen for some breakfast with the song playing in the background.
Jay, you mentioned that piano. John Deacon had a very specific sound he wanted for this song and it included the electric keyboard. Freddie absolutely abhorred the idea when there was a beautiful grand piano to play. Freddie wouldn’t play the electric one so John taught himself to play it for this song
My favorite group! This was written by newlywed bassist John Deacon for his wife Veronica.....and they're still together! Six kids. Yikes.
And yes, Queen songs pop up in a LOT of commercials. There's even a running joke that it's illegal to make a commercial in the USA without a Queen song in it.
Fun fact : the MV was shot in an old barn, and it retained a lot of very pungent smells from its former inhabitants. The guys were nit thrilled with that aspects of the experience. 😂
🥴
Freddie Mercury encouraged John Deacon the bassist to write a song so that he will continually get paid for the song.. Freddie Mercury was always wanting to make sure everyone made money, He spoke of this in an interview.
You're my best friend very nice song. Wrote by John Deacon, bass player of Queen. Freddie's Vocal give this song a whole new level and meaning. ❤❤
Written against his will, too. Freddie insisted that everyone have at least one song on each album, to reduce conflict over royalties.
His base playing on this song is really tasty!!🎼🎵🎶🎸🥁
Deacon also on the electric keys.
@@kengalbraith1319 Which Freddie hated, lol.
Yes, we know. It's also "written", which is the perfect past tense of the irregular verb, write.
You two should watch "Highlander." They did all the songs in that movie.
Completely agree!! 💙💙
Who Wants To Live Forever - Classic
As well as the series with Adrian Paul!
I’ve been trying to get them to check out the movie Highlander for a long time, hopefully they listen to the song Princes Of The Universe and watch the movie
Don’t forget Flash Gordon.
One of their best. John Deacon didn't write many of their songs but the ones he did were usually great.
That Deakie loves his wife for sure! The rest of the band were reluctant to do it because they started off with some really hard rock, but it is one of their best loved tracks. I sure wish a guy had written it for me!
My oldest son and his wife used this song as their recessional music at there wedding seven years ago. It holds a special place in my heart.
Okay THIS will bring me back. An absolute classic. IMO this is John Deacon's best song, even if "Another One Bites the Dust" hit #1 on the charts. And Deacon played the electric piano on the record, too.
One of the remarkable things about Queen is that ALL of them are top-drawer songwriters. I can't think of another group like that.
(And the song has been all over popular culture, over a dozen films and TV shows. as well as the ads)
How about some of Brian May's classic songs in the Queen Catalog?
Brighton Rock -Brian invents a new guitar technique
Now I'm Here- one of the best songs for Freddie interacting with the audience. Grab it live!
Teo Torriate (Let us cling together)- some of the lyrics are in Japanese (Brian wrote while on tour), but pure beauty
The Prophet's Song- Brian outdoes Bohemian Rhapsody at its own game. No, seriously, BR is the *simpler* song. Take that, Fred!
And of course Freddie dazzles on the vocals on all of these. Enjoy!
Absolutely LOVE the Prophet's Song.
Spread your wings is my favourite John Deacon song.
Freddie loathed the electric piano & refused to play it. John wanted the sound on the record so he wound up playing it himself.
Queen is the only group to have each member write a #1song. Pretty amazing!
" Misfire"😉
“That’s one of my new songs to you.”
Aw, that was adorable.
The reason Queen songs all sound different. They are the product of 4 different song writers. This one by the bass player John Deacon.
Queen "Crazy Little Thing Called Love " 🥰
They already did it.
"Tie Your Mother Down" is another Queen gem.
The song was used in Carnival Cruise commercials. They used the “Oh, you make me live”.
I don’t believe it was ever used in a pet commercial.
I’m surprised you didn’t notice who was playing the keyboard.
John Deacon, the bass player who wrote the song for his wife.
This Queen song is so special. My papa and I would sing to it when it came on the radio in the car. This was 3 years before he passed away. I loved that he was 82 years old and loved rock, especially Journey. But this Queen song is now in my heart and makes me smile, thinking about my papa ❤
Freddie’s birthday is tomorrow. Check out more early Queen, please . “Liar” live 1974 @ Rainbow,; “White Queen” live 1975 @ Odean; studio version of “Love of My Life” (complete 180 from live performance); Millionaire Waltz; My Melancholy Blues and all other commenter suggestions!
Freddie deserves a birthday marathon!👑
They should do Queen's set at Live Aid for Freddy's birthday.
I totally agree with your suggestions White Queen live 75 is my favorite along with You Take my Breath Away Hyde Park and I would add Father to Son Live at the Rainbow, In the Lap of the Gods, Great King Rat, Jesus...so many gems !
Me: Sees a Queen reaction uploaded. Immediately stops what I'm doing and watches.
This is my song to my sister who recently passed away. It said more than any words i could muster. 😢
John Deacon wrote this for his wife. So sweet, and I believe holds the record TO THIS DAY as the number 1 song played on U.S. radio.
This whole album "A Night At The Opera " is worth its own Album reaction/review. Every song is 🔥 !🔥!🔥!🔥! Check it out, Rob Squad
“You’re My Best Friend” was written by the band’s bass player, John Deacon.
Deacon composed this love song for his wife, Veronica Tetzlaff, whom he married in January, 1975 (this year they celebrated their 48th anniversary), shortly before the album was recorded.
In this song, he plays a Wurlitzer electric piano in addition to his bass guitar work.
John Deacon wrote this endearing song for & about his wife Veronica Tetzlaff. They met in 1971, at the Maria Assumpta College disco, a couple months after John joined Queen!! The song has been featured in several TV shows & films ie., Shaun Of The Dead . The Break-Up . Will & Grace . King Of Queens . The Simpsons . Family Guy.
Brian May! My hero!! His guitar genius makes Queen totally recognizable, after Freddie's voice of course!!
Today is Freddie's birthday! “You're My Best Friend” is a lovely song by bassist John - Deacy - Deacon. Most of the other band members weren't too fond of singing the phrase ‘happy at home’, but they kept it in the song. If you want to hear more about Queen's diversity, check out "Stone Cold Crazy". I hope you do that one before listening to Metallica's cover.
If you haven't seen the movie 'Bohemian Rhapsody' yet, there's great insight into how they worked in the studio. They really were pioneering musicians. Their music will be around as long as humans are!
I’d recommend any documentary over the movie
Some amazing songs by Queen are Spread Your Wings, It's Late, and a performance by Freddy that will blow you away in My Melancholy Blues. They were all on News of the World. Same album as We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions. 1977.
Yay!!! 💃🎸🎵 This is my favorite Queen song! Thank ya'll so.much, I've been hoping you'd do this one! ❤
-#cheers-- !-
Mine too :)
This song was actually written by John Deacon, their bass player. Its a good example of how this band melded talents together. Roger Taylor (drummer) has one of the best rock and roll voices in the business. Brian is ranked as one of the all-time best guitarists. And yet he sings very sweetly himself. Yes, Freddie was a phenom at vocals and piano, but together this band is absolute magic. Each one of them could break off and have a solid solo career (and they have), but they are at their best when they were together.
This is a wonderful song written by wonderful John deAcon❤
The song was used in several TV shows and films such as Hot in Cleveland, EastEnders, My Name is Earl, The King of Queens, The Simpsons, Shaun of the Dead and The Secret Life of Pets, in addition to the promo for the American television adaption of Wilfred. It appears in a 2016 TV commercial for PetSmart.
haha thanks! it was bugging me what commercial it was from when she brought it up you saved me the research.
A+
I called my beautiful black cat Freddie Mercury and I always sing him this song and Love of my life.😊 I love you Freddie.
My Black beauty is also Freddie Mercury! And his brother is Deaky Deacon!
There have been several commercials using this song I believe. One for Carnival Cruises and yes, one for PetSmart.
There will never be another Freddie Mercury! Again, I am suggesting y'all listen to Queen's song "Who Wants To Live Forever". (from the soundtrack for the movie "Highlander"). Although the official video is good, I strongly suggest you watch their Live from Wembly performance of this song. It is truly Freddie at his most dramatic, heartfelt best.
You should check out Smash Mouth. They were popular in the 90's, and the lead singer Steve Harwell just passed away today. All-Star was their big hit, but also did a cover of the Monkees, I'm a Belierver which was featured in one of the Shrek movies.
Queen licenses their songs quite liberally. You've probably heard this in movies, TV, commercials whatever. You hear their amazing songs everywhere. Happy Birthday tomorrow, Freddie ♥(Sept 5) I think you'll have to do another song for Freddie's birthday. Maybe...You Take My Breath Away (live from Hyde Park), Play the Game, Save Me, Now I'm Here (all from Montreal).
This was the smash hit on side 1 of A Night at the Opera. A little tune called Bohemian Rhapsody anchored side 2.
One of my favorite Queen songs.
Some sad news to pass along. Gary Wright has passed away at the age of 80. You have reacted to his two big hits "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive". Before he went solo, Wright was part of a band called Spooky Tooth. As a tribute I hope you can react to the Beat Club performance of "That Was Only Yesterday". R.I.P.
I second that motion!
"Really Want To Know You" was a top 20 hit also.
From the "A Night at the Opera" album, which also has 'Bohemian Rhapsody' on it. Arguably their best album.
People seem to forget the incredibly talented Roger Taylor on drums and backing vocals!!!!!!!
This record is singly responsible for the biggest increase in the popularity Queen.
When it was released it was a breath of freshness and the British public loved it.
Queen is a really amazing band. I wish Freddie didn't die because i'd love to see where they went... So much talent.
Im 62 now but when i got married back in 1983 my wife and i played this song at the end of our ceremony as we danced down the isle! Its my wifes favorite song. ❤
My two favourite Queen songs are this and Bohemian Rhapsody, right at completely opposite ends of the scale - one epic ballad, rock opera, and this, just a great great pop rock song.
Thank you...5th September was Freddie’s birthday...Happy Birthday to you Freddie...written in the stars⭐️🌟💫✨❤️🤩
We all know you 2 are best friends. Keep it that way.
This song is why I find bass player John Deacon so lovable. A love song to his wife.
Need to hear :
We Will Rock You
great stomping
beat !!
They wrote this song for The Fans , give them a major part in a Queen song!!
I promise you’ll love it and definitely join in!!
Reminds me of my childhood growing up in Chicago in the 70's.... I saw them in 1980 in Chicago at the Rosemont Horizon. Greatest Concert ever!
A Night at the Opera remains one of the best albums of all time. An absolute classic fully of great songs, great variety too.
To really recognize how wonderful Brian May and Roger Taylor are please listen to to NO ONE LIKE YOU. It's the band's song to say goodbye to Freddie and was sung by both Brian and Roger. They still die their love their for Freddie at every live show. They are touring the US starting in October and even if they're not close to you it's not a concert to miss if you say you live Queen. Brian and Roger are both in their mid seventies and though are going strong they still have the world to tie before or if they ever come back to the US. Live him or hate him, Adam Lambert performing as their front man for 12 years is the reason that are still touring. Freddie is still a part of every Queen show.
I suggest Queen "I'm in love with my car" wich is sung by the drummer !
React to their rocky “Now I’m Here” live at Wembley Stadium….Freddie and Brian running all over the stage….fantastic live video
Brings back memories of my Mum and Dad. My Dad suffered ill- health in his final years and went in and out of hospital all the time. My Mum would visit every day and one of the nurse remarked on the fact that she did so. My Dad just said, 'she's my best friend’. Which summed it all up, really.
The unique sound Brian mays guitar makes is due to the fact he and his father built it.
I cannot remember Brian playing any other guitar, but I could be wrong.
Yup many different sides of Queen... this is the sweet, loving side of the band... NOW if you havent done it yet, you need to do TIE YOUR MOTHER DOWN!!! Official video... Rock on!!!
My wife and I chose this as our Second Dance. (The first was "Songbird" by Fleetwood Mac, which you reacted to in December 2022.)
It’s a great feel good song. One of my fav Queen songs. Totally was in a pet food style commercial.
This is used during the closing credits of The Secret Life of Pets -- a movie that you can watch with the kids.
Love how Jay says "That's one of my new songs to you..." It's why so many people watch you guys, if you did a TV show it would be your theme.
Queen has a pet connection. There’s a sweet song called All Dead, All Dead that was about Brian May’s childhood cat.
Re: Hearing this in a commercial: You have to remember that this was released in 1975! Almost 50 years ago! Holy carp, no wonder you have heard it used on TV! haha
That's three British Bands in one night. Heaven!!
Great song by Queen's bassist, John Deacon. Queen has a LOT of great songs, and all four band members, Freddie, Brian, Roger and John, have written some great songs.
Brian May, Queen's lead guitarist and resident astrophysicist, pretty much invented thrash metal with their song, "Stone Cold Crazy", that came out in 1974, I believe. Metallica did a cover, in fact. Roger Taylor, Queen's drummer, did a song on the same album called "Tenement Funster" which is just a rocking good tune.
Brian said he suggested it should be more frenetic the way Freddie normally played guitar
It was one of Freddies with Ibex
The guitarist was more of a blues guitarist so it was slower
Is there any musical style that Queen cannot do? So versatile, they are amazing!
This song is not only in many commercials, but it is all over pop culture. I've heard it used in movies, television shows, radio ads, you name it. :)
I like many Queen songs, But, this one and Keep Yourself Alive grabbed me as a teenager, Brian May's guitar is wonderful, along with Mercury's backing vocals.
Too funny! Was literally thinking, “How could they never have heard this song before? It’s in commercials!” 😂
One of John Deacon's greatest songs! I have great memories of seeing Queen perform this at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida, November 3, 1978. Great song!
Their unknown song,'39,
' 39 Is my favorite from Queen

Harry Nilsson. There is so much of his music out there that’s amazing snd all over the map as well as far as style snd he kills them all. You gotta do a five gown that rabbit hole: gotta get up, spaceman, without you, without her, remember, lullaby in ragtime, blanket for a sail, let the good times roll, moonbeam song, 1941, driving along, cuddly toy, as time goes by. He goes from crooner to rocker and everywhere else. I think you’ve done one or two of his songs but he was called the American Beatle and was friends with John Lennon and ringo Starr. Cuz the Beatles were huge fans of his music and voice. He was a singer songwriter too.
Some may not remember or know every member of this band has written at least one number one hit.
Freddie and Brian encouraged John to contribute on every record. He'd come up with something and say "I don't know if it's any good". Word was Freddie liked this song, but didn't like the keyboards, so John learned how to play and recorded it for the album.
"You're My Best Friend" was written by Queen's bassist John Deacon while he was at home on a keyboard. This was the first song Deacon wrote, and it was for his wife, Veronica Tetzlaff.
In the recording, Deacon played a Fender Rhodes electric piano in addition to his bass guitar duties.
Although it wasn't the band's biggest hit, "You're My Best Friend" remains one of Queen's most popular songs due to its catchy melody and universal, heartfelt lyrics.
Interestingly, Deacon bought the electric piano specifically to compose this song. This was not usual for the band as Freddie Mercury was generally the one who played the keyboard.
The song was released as single in 1976 and reached No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart and No. 16 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The song is also a favourite for wedding dances due to its romantic connotations.
It wasn’t John’s first song - that would be “Misfire”, which appeared on the previous album , Sheer Heart Attack (1974)
Funny story about this song, John Deacon wrote this for his wife. He used an organ that you can see him playing in the video. The reason John is playing is because Freddy refused to play it. Freddy argued that they had a grand piano and therefore there was no reason why he would give up on that to instead play an organ.
Bassist John Deacon's paean to his wife; love that Wurly ---they used to make 'em in my hometown
Nominee for a full album review treatment on this channel: in addition to this, "Love of My Life," and "Bohemian Rhapsody," the rest of *A Night at the Opera*
Their harmonies are just so damn good. Seriously it's mind-bogging how good they sound together.
This was written by John Deacon (bass player) as a tribute to his wife. the lyrics are so heartwarming!
The bass player John Deacon wrote this for his wife.
Other Queen songs you guys should check out are: Brighton Rock. Stone cold crazy. And One vision. All of these Queen songs rock!
Ohhhhhh, my favourite Queen song, 1976, transports me back straight away, a very special year for me, all of their tracks are great but this is top of the pile!
My second favourite Queen song after Seven Seas of Rhye. Reminds me of good times.
You always say you love piano and I think your jaw would drop if you watched White Queen at Odeon Hammersmith. It’s definitely one of their most passionate performances.
Shout out to bass-man John Deacon for writing that gem. But every member of Queen was a mind-blowing writer, hence never a bad song from the band. How about re-visiting Freddie and Montserrat Caballe? The Golden Boy is a perfect blend of opera, gospel and drama!
It is impossible not to smile when this song is playing.
Your hair looks awesome like that, Amber!
That's John Deacon on the keyboard Freddie wouldn't touch an electronic keyboard so John taught himself how to play it. ❤
