That was the Queen song played at Freddie’s funeral. Also a hymn by Aretha Franklin and a live performance by his opera diva partner Monserrat Caballe (they performed together on album Barcelona - rock and opera beautifully) who sang his favorite Verdi opera song.

THE RED SPECIAL The Red Special is the electric guitar designed and built by Queen's guitarist Brian May and his father, Harold, when Brian was a teenager in the early 1960s. Brian’s father Harold was an electrical engineer and a hacker of sorts. He built the family’s radio, TV, and even furniture around the house. Harold proposed the two build a new electric guitar from scratch as a father-son project. This was the beginning of a two-year odyssey that resulted in the creation of one of the world’s most famous musical instruments. In celebration of the instrument's 50th anniversary, a book about its construction and history, Brian May’s Red Special: The Story of the Home-Made Guitar that Rocked Queen and the World, was written by Brian May with Simon Bradley.

@Deacon John Somebody to Love - was the most sold single but I think it was Woolworths that screwed up the sales from what I remember and something like 200,000 of them weren't accounted for (don't quote me)
@Deacon John It was regarding advanced orders being counted as the previous week's sales (I think, I'm trying to recall some rather old memories here). I'll see if I can find a link... it was in a book I read back in the 90s too.
Like the new glasses they look good on you. Queen and Freddie specifically were such perfectionists nothing went out to the public before it was perfect. Even their live stuff had to be spot on or they were not happy. Hence why they are so good and their music will live almost forever.
Queen was a band i grew up listening to, back then i knew their music was fantastic, but back then we were so spoilt for choice when it came to great new music in the charts. But the older i get, the more i appreciate just how good their music really was. For me it is just great to see someone of your age enjoying it so much, and hopefully spreading the word of just how great some of those old bands were. Sadly these days it seems that new bands with with great talents are never given the air time they deserve - yes, I am sure there are plenty of new bands fighting for a chance out there, but you would never know it listening to the charts these days. I am glad I grew up in the 70's were we always had such a great variety of music in the charts each week.
I noted your reaction when the chorus cut in - the expression on your face of almost painful tingles from their amazing harmonies - exactly how it gets to me EVERY time I hear this song! It was this 'Killer Queen' which turned me on to them when I first heard it on the radio back in 1974 - their sound was truly unique and amazing!

By a force of serendipity a group of musical geniuses came across each other and became the band Queen. As well as being super talented they were perfectionists.
So much I could say. Brian May making is guitar sing, incredible backing vocals, complex lyrics yet playful lyrics, and, of course, Freddie’s vocals. So pure that they occasionally cut through me like a knife. Have told an opera singer that his voice was as stunning as Freddie Mercuy’s. Hope he was not offended. What I really love is that you have found Queen and are getting as much joy as I have had all these years. Keep up making this amazing channel always makes me feel good. Now, time to figure out what the lyrics mean.
I'd like to recommend.. Death on two legs... Queen in their earlier year didn't have a good record deal contract and by the time they got to their third album they started to realise that they were being robbed and that their manager was getting most of their money.. So freddie wrote death on two legs which was a letter to their manager... And he went down hard.. You should listen to it
This was their first appearance on Top of the Pops. Killer Queen was their first commercial success. And already they have the consistent quality which you speak of.

Hi Joel , a mimed performance but what a sound and what a visual impact. Thankfully this performance survives..much of Top of the Pops was junked prior to 1977. Best Wishes from the U.K.
How could I not love this reaction? You took me back to June 1974. Young student sharing a house with three others, south of London, in Kingston. Watching Top of the Pops in an old black and white TV. And then this. Queen and Killer Queen. My first time ever. Almost five decades later I'm still hooked on them. Freddie, and Brian, and Roger and John. Pure, sheer talent. Thanks!
I am so glad that the young generation such as you are beginning to listen to Queen. They are unique. Freddie Mercury, what can I say, there is no other -- such an amazing voice. Queen are the best. I am glad that you are enjoying their music. By the way, love the glasses.

Great reaction, Joel! You might also watch Killer Queen 1981 Live in Montreal with Roger Taylor (drummer) singing I'm in love with my car - Roger's raspy voice while drumming. WOW, WOW !!!
Thanks so much for your reaction! Whenever this song starts on car radio or TV, I immediately recognize five finger-snaps.. 1-2-3-4-5... "she keeps... " such a great song.. lol
Love the new brainy specs, son - looking good! I'm so glad you're enjoying Queen - I grew up with three bands - Queen, ELO, and KISS - bit of a mix, I know... But they all produced highly polished studio albums that resonated with me on many levels - ELO most of all; the writing, the vocals, and the ability to play almost any instrument by ear, launched the ELO maestro, Jeff Lynne, to the top tier for me - his music has been the soundtrack of my life. If you ever review it, I hope you like it, if not, then "c'est la vie"... Anyway, be safe, son - you, and your friends (Will, Mac and Cam). :)
Dear JPS, if you like music from the 70´s I recommend listening to David Bowie´s back catalogue. If I were you, I¨d start with the Album Hunky Dory. Track 1 Changes, Track 2 Oh! You Pretty Things, and Track 4 Life on Mars. Happy listening!
Queen are absolutely wonderful and Freddie's voice is amazing. Thankyou for playing their super songs. Also your glasses are very good and suit you. Best wishes from the UK.
Brian May/ guitarist his guitar is called the Red Special, Brian and his Dad made the guitar themselves and you won't find another that sounds the same, you won't find a bad song by Queen they were brilliant ✌😀
Big lover of Queen here. Unlike modern artists, in the past bands put out lots of albums, lots of songs. Not all of them were massive hits, but when you listen to the Greatest Hits it can appear that way. Try "Innuendo". Long and brilliant
Loving your reactions to Queen, Joel, and appreciating your music content in general! As someone who grew up loving Queen, seeing your love for them develop is lovely to see.
Joel, Marie Antoinette, as you may know, was Austrian (daughter of Empress Maria Teresa, who married off her brood all over Europe for strategic reasons), and we're famous for our cakes and patisseries. So Freddie's lyrics (Let them eat cake, she said) are on point and ironic. Freddie was a very cultured and respectful person. Whenever he was in Vienna he used to buy up art nouveau artefacts for his house Garden Lodge in London. Freddie had a penchant for Austria. DoRo production (Rudi Donezal and Hannes Rossacher) were Austrian film producers involved in Queen productions during Freddie's latter days. And Reinhold Mack ('almost' Austrian from Munich) was also the producer for major Queen songs. You strike me as someone who might be interested in such Queen titbits. I too love how today's youth is falling for Queen. I wish I had been this discerning in my younger days. Unfortunately they didn't capture my special attention then, and I only became a super fan after the movie BoRap. A blessing in a way since Freddie and Queen now enrich my live immensely.
My favourite Queen song! I’ve really been enjoying your Queen reactions. It’s fun to watch someone’s introduction to the fire that is Freddie and Queen. I’ve subscribed.
One of the many Queen songs I know off by heart. Here is some others: I want to break free, The Show Must Go On, Crazy Little thing called love, under pressure, somebody to love, don’t stop me now and Bohemian Rhapsody
Take a look at a brilliant interview with Brian May on Rick Beato's channel. Brian talks about the insane production values that Freddie brought to their work. And he was pushing the technology of channels way beyond anything previous. Their perfectionism is something Queen fans adore.
Killer Queen was the first Queen single I remember hearing and they seemed so unique, even then. I watched that Top of the Pops, and remember being blown away! (BTW - widening your range of content is great- it will stop you becoming stale)

If you noticed black tape on Rodgers cymbals that's because everyone had to mime on top of the pops due to not being enough time to set up loads of different artists for live sound. A few people refused to be on the show because of this. Kate Bush got to number 1 in the charts with Wuthering heights & refused to mime, so they had to let her play live for the first performance. She smashed it of course.
Joel, watch Queen live from Wembley stadium in 1986. It was the 'kind of magic tour'. I watched it for the first time in 30yrs just last week....and had shivers down my spine. One of the best live performances of all time👍

The brilliant guitarist is Brian May. Please watch "I want to be free" video if you can get it, I think it was banned in America when it came out years ago.
Hey, Queen-boy, thanx! It's grey & windy and pissing down with rain ...and it's Monday. So wasn't feeling too wonderful - and then I saw you'd posted this.Yayyy. Now I'm ready to take the dog (who HATES rain) out. Btw, you are now, officially a neologist! There hasn't been such a word as galliant until you invented it. A great contribution to English vocab!!
This is the first Queen song I ever heard, back when I was 15 years old. Such, eloquent, intelligent lyrics. I’ve loved them ever since. After Killer Queen came White Queen (Live at The Odeon Hammersmith 1975 is their best in my humble opinion) & March of the Black Queen.
These vids are fascinating! I'm from Scotland and it's been great to see what American(s) reactions are to the music which we regard as everyday stuff, I'm almost envious that you are hearing these (brilliant) songs for the first time as an adult, since I was only a wee boy when they came out originally, too young to appreciate them. Also it's so cool that you like The Two Ronnies, well regarded over here, may I suggest Morcambe and Wise, they are from the same era and are similar in alot of ways. Keep up the good work pal.
HAPPY TO SEE YOU JOEL! Looking good with those styling glasses. Always love your reactions to QUEEN and the respect you have for their music. Don't let people get you down son! 💕
Just found your channel. I am a huge Queen fan. Saw them live five times. I don’t know if you have read the lyrics of their songs but if you haven’t then it’s something you must do. You’ll understand how clever these guys were. Have you ever heard Ogre Battle?
“Let them eat cake” she said just like Marie Antoinette! Love all Queen but especially the early stuff, you should check them out live at the Rainbow 🌈 amazing he whole way through and you’ll definitely hear songs that haven’t heard before xx
Hi Joel,I love Queen I grew up listening to them(showing my age now)your reactions to their music is great to watch. As for losing a couple of subscribers don't worry as everyone else watch your videos because we like you and all your videos. Thanks again Joel x
Queen has about 200 songs to start with. They all wrote songs. Played multiple instruments, & sang. Each wrote at least one or more hit songs. They have so many hits. Most people don't realize. That they have only scratched the surface of Queen's actual. Music catalog. Early Queen is much more prog rock / metal. Queen 1, & Queen 11 are favs of mine. With a few exceptions. The studio versions of those two albums are a must. Not only are these albums production heavy ( The band took control of their sound ) But. Live versions of these early songs. Tend to be shortened for time.

This was my 1st time seeing Queen on television 1974 have been a Queen fan ever since.
This was the first Queen song that I ever heard. I think it was the first Queen song to hit the airwaves here in Canada.
great to share a classic with you JPS.
Killer Queen was the first top 40 hit by Queen in the USA back in 1974. It peaked around #12. The album it's from is GREAT!
The new glasses look class, JPS- timeless and effortlessly cool, just like you!
That's why we are called Great Britain just because we are so Great!!!
Queen being an example of how Great we are!!!
So don't forget to book that trip over here.
try listening to to flash from the soundtrack from the film of the same name i was 14 when first heard killer queen on the radio and have been a fan ever since first single i ever bought was killer queen and first album was night at the opera.. first time i made out was to queens your my best friend.... so many great memories from one of the greatest bands of all time... along with dire straits lol
Queen...the gift that keeps giving! IMO
Love this! And Freddie was in his element with this one!
Early Queen, absolute sophistication and totally Freddie. This song is perfection. Thank you for your reaction.
The brilliant guitarist is Brian May. Please watch "I want to be free" video if you can get it, I think it was banned in America when it came out years ago.
You mean, 'I want to BREAK free'.
You should do one of their very underrated songs "Spread Your Wings". It is one of my favourites from Queen.
I would recommend the bbc session version or the live killers version
Hey, Queen-boy, thanx! It's grey & windy and pissing down with rain ...and it's Monday. So wasn't feeling too wonderful - and then I saw you'd posted this.Yayyy. Now I'm ready to take the dog (who HATES rain) out.
Btw, you are now, officially a neologist! There hasn't been such a word as galliant until you invented it. A great contribution to English vocab!!
My introduction to Queen was with this song when it was released.
There's a reason why Queen is one of the best groups of all time.
To the subscribers thats left tough lol ime a British citizen love your channel brother
You should see this song live as a medley with I’m in Love with my Car, at Montreal. Roger on drums will absolutely blow your mind!
excellent choice... but then anything by Queen is superb
great new glasses.. a real professional look.... we just saw our king listening to queen.... both are monarchs!!!
If you have time maybe look at Brian May (Queen guitarist) opening the 2012 Olympics in London…he just keeps on getting better….xx
Queen - Death on two legs. A must listen too. Written about an earlier manager they had who hoodwinked them
Yet another great video JPS - keep `em coming.
It’s their loss Joel we’re here for the long haul love learning different cultures through you xx
Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest performers of all time. Queen rocks
Looking forward to you going different places in world Joel .and learning about them .keep queen coming love there music
Absolutely gorgeous Queen song 💜
Just found your channel. I am a huge Queen fan. Saw them live five times.
I don’t know if you have read the lyrics of their songs but if you haven’t then it’s something you must do. You’ll understand how clever these guys were.
Have you ever heard Ogre Battle?
Please do "I Want to Break Free". I would love to see your reaction.
Savvy, sophisticated, sexy this breakout song for Queen. That sound on "she's a killer Queeeenen" is just a thrill EVERY TIME.
You have to run the channel the way you want to my friend and hope that works, or else you will get bored and give up...
If you needed any more proof that these guys, especially Freddie, are musical gods....here it is.
