Koishi is one of my favorite Touhou characters. Her backstory and psychology themed attacks are so interesting. Here's some clarification on her character: Koishi is the sister of Satori, who you've seen briefly in Subterranean Stars. Both of them are of the satori youkai species and can read minds with their Third Eye. However, they received an immense amount of hatred for this and Koishi attempted to self-inflict harm to her Third Eye to get rid of her mind-reading power. Closing it had the unfortunate side-effect of sealing her own conscious mind. Koishi exists only within the subconscious now and can manipulate the perceptions of others. People can perceive Koishi when they see her, but forget about her soon after, so she exists as a sort of "imaginary friend" to children who will eventually no longer remember her. This has made her quite lonely which is why she's so happy when Reimu pays attention to her in this duel. All of Koishi's spellcards are psychology-based. For example, 6:28 is "Danmaku Paranoia" and captures the feeling quite well. 9:45's "Rorschach in Danmaku" is a bullet interpretation of those old "look at this inkblot and tell me what you see" tests. 8:57 is "Youkai Polygraph" which looks like the graphs on a lie detector and kind of resembles her sister's original attacks. There's also "Id" and "Super-ego" cards. I think this is one of the coolest Touhou fights in the series! Some brief descriptions on Reimu's allies. - You've already met Yukari. - Suika Ibuki is another oni and she's the main cause behind the incident of the first Touhou fighting game (because she wanted to party all night long). Now that I've refreshed myself on Touhou lore, I've realized that Suika is primarily based on Shuten-douji (who used to go by the name Ibuki-douji). She's not as scantily-clad as FGO's Shuten since Touhou doesn't really do fanservice. Kasen Ibaraki, another oni you've yet to meet, is based on Ibaraki-douji. And Yuugi Hoshiguma is based on another well-known oni Hoshikuma. There's a legend of Shuten-douji and a big "Oni Four" that Touhou adopted, though Touhou's fourth oni has yet to show herself. So yeah, Touhou has its own versions of Shuten and Ibaraki, funny that. - Aya is a paparazzi tengu. She uses wind based attacks and is very fast, which is why Reimu is able to shoot like a rocket when borrowing her power. She has her own side-games Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler, which are like Pokemon Snap with pain and suffering (SCREW YOU SEAMLESS CEILING OF KINKAKUJI AGHHHHH) Next is my favorite stage 4 of all time from Imperishable Night. Really looking forward to the big showdown in the bamboo forest!
Ah, must say I like Koishi so far! Though feel very sad of her :c Must protecc! Think its pretty cool how her abilities are named after psychology like that, just neat! ovo Paparazzi Tengu, never thought I would hear that but here I am xD Thanks for explaining it Chimera! : D
*Warning! Long information dump ahead* To make things easier, I’ve split it into 3 parts: *Introduction*; where I briefly explain Koishi’s abilities *Spellcards*; I show the name and time of all the spellcards used in this animation *Explanation*; in-depth explanation of Koishi’s most important spellcards and what they symbolise (sad backstory in this section) *Introduction* Koishi is a Satori, a kind of Youkai that can read people’s minds with their third eye. Her sister Satori (yes, that’s her name) is the 4th boss seen in Subterranean Stars. Unlike her sister, Koishi sealed off her third eye (hence why it’s closed). This caused her to lose her mind reading abilities and have her the power over the subconscious. Koishi no longer has a conscious thought process, causing her to act solely on instinct and morals (Id and Super-Ego, more on this below). She also fades in and out of people’s view and memories (this ability is subconscious and cannot be controlled). When she disappears or gets away from someone’s field of vision, that person’s memory of her disappears. Because of this she lives through a lot of “first meetings”. Children are somewhat resistant to this ability because of their developing minds, so she becomes their imaginary friend that adults can’t see. Sadly as these children grow up, their resistance decreases, and eventually forget and lose their ability to see their imaginary childhood friend, Koishi. *Spellcards* Spellcards are special bullet patterns, in case you didn’t know Sanae’s spellcards 3:05 Nine Syllable Stabs 3:25 Miracle Fruit (The fruit that multiplies each day if not eaten) 3:55 Bumper Crop Rice Shower (She also uses her shot types, the snakes that change trajectory, and the exploding frogs. Forgot what they were called tho :P) Koishi’s spellcards 6:00 All Ancestors Standing Beside Your Bed 6:28 Danmaku Paranoia (very scary) 7:18 Release of the Id (Koishi releases her Id (Instincts) in the form of hearts :D) 7:55 Super-Ego (Koishi uses her Super-Ego to supress her Id, containing her Id (hearts) back inside her) 8:57 Youkai Polygraph 9:46 Rorschach in Danmaku (The patterns kinda look like Rorschach ink blot tests, don’t they?) 10:14 The Embers of Love 10:37 Genetics of the Subconscious (The pattern is a double helix spiral, like the DNA) 11:00 Philosophy of a Hated Person (Possibly the saddest spellcard in the series :( More info down below) 11:50 Subterranean Rose (Koishi’s most beautiful spell, More info down below) *Explanation* “Philosophy of a Hated Person”, the embodiment of Koishi’s traumatic past. Koishi was (and still is) the kindest person to live, yet she had a weak heart. Her powers of reading people’s minds caused them to shun and hate her, hunting her down like the roses in this spell card. The pain and suffering of being hated was too much to bear for her and caused her to seal away her powers causing her to lose her own consciousness and making her fade from other’s consciousness. Literally becoming a ghost of her former self. Koishi was sad when she accidentally caught Reimu in this spell (through an adorable sneeze :3), since Reimu had to go through the hell that was Koishi’s own past, and thus she was overjoyed when Reimu came back from that beautiful yet hell-like dream world. “Subterranean Rose”, the beautiful flower that blooms in absolute darkness, never to be seen and appreciated, just like Koishi. In the off chance you do see her, she’ll play with you, make you smile, and make your whole day better, but as soon as you take your eyes off her she disappears into your subconsciousness and all your memories of her are gone, the only thing left is you wondering why you were so happy just a few minutes before, not knowing why. Also the root (pun intended) of Koishi’s connection with vines, which are actually more like thorny rose stems. Love the symbolism of MinusT’s portrayal of Subterranean Rose’s final stages. Koishi ascends above the clouds, no longer a rose that blooms deep underground, but high in the skies, where everyone can see and appreciate her.
Now that is a big box of lore! xD Thank you Head Phones! Think its amazing that MinusT is so incredible faithful to the games with using the same attacks and pattern in the videos. : O
Koishi easily become my favorite character because of her simple yet sad background. Like her sister , a Satori, she can read other people's mind. But due to the fear and hatred that other beings had for her species, she decided to destroy her mind-reading ability by closing her Third eye. As she said herself, "reading people's minds is depressing, there's nothing good about it." But what she didn't know that closing it would also means sealing her own conscious mind away (in short, she lost all her emotions, thoughts, motives, ect. she acted out purely based on her instinct) 'Koishi's presence cannot be "felt" by anyone unless she has entered their direct field of vision, and is forgotten as soon as she leaves it. In general, she doesn't have a personality. However, children enjoy her presence as one of an imaginary friend, whom they forget about once they grow up. She could no longer be hated, but neither could she be loved, or even remembered by people who saw her.' In 13:01 Koishi held her Third eye up because she somewhat regretted closing it, now wanting to know more and meeting new people (acording to the game anyway)
Someone beat me to lore this time, will just explain abilities with examples of attacks from video/games (in more detail than previous) Suika Ibuki Abilities: Strength, Flame and Density Manipulation Suika has the natural strength of an oni as you would expect. She is not as strong as Yuugi (oni from previous vid, but shes still noticeably strong) but makes up for it with flame and density attacks. Her density manipulation allows her to affect herself (Making herself bigger or dissipating into mist) and her attacks. You saw in the video the condensed blue fire bombs. Its essentially concentrated fire danmaku, however this can extend to stuff like making tiny blackholes/singularities. Aya Shimaemaru Abilities: Speed and wind Not notably strong but really fast (as the other guy mentioned in the lore dump). The only thing of hers you saw her do in this video was allow reimu to use her speed (which is only a fraction). In the fighting games, she is able to make around 30 flyby strikes with her penultimate ability (she goes offscreen for each one). As for wind, she can create gusts or full mini typhoons. She also has the uncanny ability to listen to the wind to hear rumors (assists her as a journalist). Yukari Yakumo Abilities: Gap and boundary manipulation, two shikigami; Ran and Chen Yakumo You have seen most of her abilities, I will instead explain the unseen (and unknown). Her boundary manipulation can include physical properties (Wave and Particle, Big and Small), more concept stuff (2D and 3D) and potentially (unconfirmed) more god tier properties (Life and Death, Creation and Destruction etc). As mentioned in the other guys lore dump, shes an elder youkai, as such she has two subservients she uses in her attacks sometimes. Ran and chen have their own abilities so wont explain it but she can pull them through her gaps and they fight with unwavering loyalty to their mistress. Her gaps can also catch danmaku and send it back. She is also known to use Modern day stuff (speculated to be from a ukranian war zone) including street signs, traffic lights and most notoriously, trains. I wont explain anymore but if you want to see an unhinged fight with her in it, look at "Marisa vs Yukari".
Ah thanks for explaining in more depth of the abilities and their strenghts. c: Think its pretty cool with Aya the tengu like that, and Ibuki seems really stronk! ovo
Lore time™!! This time we have reimu going to the extra stage of touhou 11. She is helped out by Yukari, Aya the tengu journalist, and Suika the horned oni. Reimu has discovered that the reason why the nuclear raven obtained the nuclear fusion powers was because of the final boss from the previous game, touhou 10. She decides to go beat this person up, so she goes to the shrine where this person lives. Here minusT decided to animate the WHOLE stage, we see some fairies enemies, the ones that hold those big flowers at the beginning, and then we see the midboss, Sanae, who is the shrine maiden of this other shrine, and she is the only other shrine maiden in gensokyo outside of Reimu. Sanae can use her gods's powers (which is why she uses wind, snakes and frogs) and she can make miracles as her personal ability. After the midboss, we have the extra boss, Koishi Komeiji. Basically, the nuclear raven Okuu is one of the pets of the person that rules the underground. This person is a satori, a youkai that can read other people's mind with their third eye. Koishi here is the younger sister of the ruler of the underground, but she is a special satori. Mind reading youkai are always hated by everyone for their ability, and koishi after years of receiving nothing but hate from everyone except her sister decided to close her third eye to stop reading people's minds. This made her lose her mind reading ability, but this had some consequences. Before people hated her, now people cannot physically think of her as a real entity. She basically closed her mind and herself off from the world, lost any real ability to really feel any normal emotion. She lost basically her conscious thinking mind. This is like as she reduced herself to a pebble on a road, you see it and forget about it as soon as it leaves your vision, that's why she could disappear like that for reimu in the fight. Before anyone hated her, now no one hates her, but at the same time no one loves her either. Now she acts on instincts, she talks and communicates with the world subconsciously, without thinking anymore. That's why she looks so happy and changes her mood very frequently in the fight. All of this made her acquire the ability to manipulate people's subconscious, which is why most of her fight is based over psicology stuff. And roses, she likes using roses (in the last attack for example). She is a pretty tragic character, with a big creepy factor to her, like you noticed too at the start, for the subconscious motif. She can probably make you go throught PTSD or something if she wanted (even though she is unable to want anything) . She basically has been going around gensokyo like a stray cat since she closed her third eye without anyone being capable to perceive her, so she basically has been doing whatever the hell passed in her head. She is like... A plastic bag that floats carried by the wind, with no real purpose. The reason why Koishi was at the shrine is because she wanted to meet the person that gave Okuu the power of nuclear fusion, since she wanted it for her pets too, and fights reimu or marisa because she has heard from her sister about their adventure underground. After the battle reimu and marisa should forget about her, but since they now know about her sister, they can vaguely keep a sliver of memory about Koishi now by associating her existence with her sister. The next video which will come out probably in 2 years, is about marisa vs reimu from touhou 8!
6:42 you think? Its one of the scariest spellcards, you are forced on this tiny deathly circle while she shotguns you with bullets, i dont remember the name but it was very fitting.
@@LanokirX In the game itself, the shots are reasonably wide, the main thing is just that, paranoia. Realize that you really don't have to move all that much and paranoia is only a feeling, not an action.
@@ventuskitsune4257 and the surrounding bullet that you trap inside is never hurt or shot direct at you. They just fly around you, if you move slowly, the whole bullet circle move with you as it center. Those bullet only there to create the paranoia that you have a very close space to move.
Awesome reaction. I absolutely loved this when it first came out. BTW, the teaser at the end was for none other than Reimu Vs Marisa. If that doesn't get you interested, I don't know what will. Tho, it'll probably be quite a while before it comes out. Anyway, time for my usual infodump. This animation was based off of the Subterranean Animism Extra Stage. So it was presented as taking place immediately after Subterranean Stars. The general gist of the stage is that the protag travels to the Moriya Shrine to find the one responsible for giving the Yatagarasu's power to Utsuho. Along the way, they stumble upon Koishi, who fights them as the stage's boss. As for the characters: First shown are Marisa, Nitori, and Reimu. I'm sure you already know them. Next is Suika Ibuki. An Oni with the ability to manipulate density and another one of the four Devas of the mountain. Then you see Aya Shameimaru, who is a Tengu and one of Gensokyo's reporters. Next is Yukari Yakumo, who I'm also quite sure you already know. The first of the two characters that Reimu fought was Sanae Kochiya, who is the Shrine Maiden of the Moriya Shrine. She's technically human, but is also a living god, being directly descended from Suwako Moriya, one of the Shrine's god's. She is quite an important character in the series, often appearing as a playable character in the games. Occasionally she's shown as having a Rivalry with Reimu due to both being Shrine Maidens. And lastly, Koishi Komeiji, who is Satori's younger sister. She didn't want to be trapped by her mind reading powers, so she closed her third eye, which caused her conscious mind to be sealed. Now she can't hear what others are thinking, but she also can't think for herself. Absolutely everything she does is purely her instinct. On top of that, her ability is manipulating the subconscious. However, with her lack of thought, this is used subconsciously itself, and at present, Koishi herself can barely be noticed by anyone, even if she's right in front of them. Even if they interact with her, they'll forget about her shortly afterwards. She's often depicted as being quite lonely because of this. Koishi is a character beloved by pretty much the whole fandom, myself included. There's just something about her that is impossible to dislike. In fact, she is the only character to have ever beaten Reimu on the annual popularity poll for many years.
Ah, no wonder you loved it, this was amazing to watch! And Reimu vs Marisa? Cant wait to see that damn! >u< the wait argh! Oh so its related to Subterranean Stars like that, pretty cool, had no idea of that : O And an Oni that can manipulate density sounds pretty damn stronk I say! xD I feel so sad for Koishi for sure damn, wanna gief her a hug :c
koishi woud cous heart attacks with how frikin adorable she is (its her sub-concses that makes her disapear shes got no controll over it happend after she closed her 3rd eye)
Character names: (I'm not going to go into detail, because it seems about 7 other people end up wanting to explain the same thing multiple times) Reimu as Reimu Marisa as Marisa Yukari as Yukari Suika Ibuki at 1:18 (Oni race, age unknown, manipulate density and sparseness) Aya Shameimaru at 1:21 (Crow Tengu race, news reporter, 1000+ years old, wind manipulator, pretty much one of the fastest if not THE fastest character, is a playable character in some games.) A fun fact, Aya most likely has the ability to travel close to or at the speed of light, some characters have fast attacks such as Youmu Konpaku who we saw in a previous video, an extremely fast swordsman, and it is not confirmed but some characters can probably perceive things close to the speed of light, but Aya is probably the fastest at flight. *I have edited this comment about 4 different times, I keep finding new sources for Aya's speed, apparently, it is closer to what I originally thought, not the speed of sound, but in fact the speed of light. I am not sure if this is even correct, all you need to know is that she is the fastest at flight in the entire series. You can probably tell that she is in my top 3 characters from Touhou.* Sanae Kochiya at 2:57 (Human race, Shrine Maiden of a different Shrine, age unknown, power to cause miracles) Koishi Komeiji (Satori race, Satori Komeiji's younger sister, age unknown, Manipulation of the Unconscious Mind) I can go into a little more detail, but I am not sure how much you want explained, seeing as you might be playing more games and these characters might be featured there. Also, the reason why she is so happy in this, is because Reimu managed to locate her when she was unconsciously using her ability to make people forget about her, it is not something that she can control, so being found really made her day.
One of koishi's last spellcards are "Im going to call you, awnser the phone!"Which leads to the urban legend called "Mary San" Marys line was My name is Mary,Right now,I am right behind you and then you get backstabbed.
Extra Stage : Green Moriya : Sanae Closed Third Eye : Koishi Kappa The Blue Hair : Nitori Red-White Hakurei Shrine Maiden : Reimu Just Regular Black Witch: Marisa Gap Of Pink YinYang : Yukari Drunker Two - Horn : Suika
No, Koishi is not the mindreader, her older sister Satori is, you've seen her briefly in Subterranean Stars (this is the extra stage of the same game BTW). Since mind-readers are loathed and hated, she tried to destroy her mind-reading ability by closing her Third Eye. Instead, it sealed away her own conscious mind, basically making her a creature of subconciousness. She is not a ghost, instead, she can be percieved only through subconciousness, or if she herself allows that, and easily fades from your memory. Like being seen only at the corner of the eye but never upfront. And she can affect subconciousness of others as well. Children with an "imaginary friend" - very well maybe her. Suddenly jumping from the window to your death while you were peacefully taking a morning smoke - might be her as well. And so on. Most of her spells are reference to Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis stuff, like Id, Ego, Superego, Rorsharh test, polygraph, etc. Last spell is Subterranean Rose - obviously, pointing to her origins.
Ahh, okey, so her sister is the mindreader : o And damn, that is sad how it turned like that :c Though such scary power, to only exist and manipulate through the subconciousness. That is pretty mindfucked @_@ That is pretty cool that they are refering to such thing, cool spells ovo
Koishi has been one of my most favorite character out of all of the Touhou characters. And yes, I know all of the Incredibly Cute to Painfully Depressing to Horrifyingly Disturbing fan stories or even stories that could be canon for Koishi.
You are right about the banishing being her slipping from people memories, but she doesn't do it consciously, which is why she's so happy when Reimu was able to predict where she would appear in 8:47 As others have explained, her forcefully closing her third eye caused her some damage to her psyche and to make a long story short: she has the empathy and maturity of a child, wearing her heart on her sleeve, she's impulsive and doesn't consider the consequences of her actions nor how it affects others. You'll see more of this during the story of Hopeless Maskerade, one of the fighting games.
Basically koishi went to the moriya shrine wanting more power after her sister, satori told her how okuu, the crow you saw last episode, got her powers. Reimu was going to talk to kanako 1 of the moriya gods, about the incident with okuu. Hence they crossed paths and battled. The other girl with the frog spells is sanae, the shrine maiden of the moriya shrine. Also if you like the music, a youtuber named louchan has posted a lot of the original soundtracks of touhou music, so go check her out and listen in your spare time. If you want to hear one of the hundreds of touhou doujin music's try the touhou restoration projects youtube channel for fan music. Give it a try, not as a react but in your spare time.
Ahh I see : o That explain why we saw Koishi in the background and such in Subterranean Stars? Since it relate to that ovo And gonna check on the music for sure, been loving it all so far! : D
@@LanokirX um that was satori in subterranean stars. Best way to tell them apart, satori is dressed in purple and pink while koishi is green and yellow with a hat. They are sisters too, with satori being the eldest
Hi! It's me! And this is another split in two comment(I guess you still not tired of reading this huh? Then let's begin!). Reimu's opponents: Sanae Kochiya(Green shrine maiden with frogs) She is shrine maiden of Moriya shrine, who can control miracles. Her first appearance was as fifth boss in Touhou 10 Mountain Of Faith. She came to Gensokyo from outside world(our world) with her gods(Kanako Yasaka And Suwako Moriya(I'll tell about them later(it' s second time I told you, that I will tell you about Kanako later....)), their shrine and lake. After Utsuho incident(which was Kanako's fault) Koishi(main antaginist in this video) wanted to gain superpower too and after Satori told about this to us(probably to Yukari(sorry I don't know to which character...)) about that Reimu was trying to stop her, but Sanae misunderstood all of this, so she just attacked Reimu. Also Sanae is one of the main protagonist in some later games, like Youmu. And Finally Koishi! Koishi Komeiji is satori. She is Satori's(ZUN, it was necessary to name satori a Satori(it's just kills me😩)) sister. Also before I start explaining something about her, I think you mixed up Satori and Koishi. Also it seems, that you misunderstood Satori's ability. Her ability is power to read minds with her third eye. About memories it was her spell not ability(it's pretty convinient to her, because, if she force someone to remember something scary(in our case very hard danmaku), she can use this against them, by reading their mind). Also let's remember some Satori's and Koishi's backstory: because of their ability to read minds they were hated by literally every human and youkai, so they went to hell on their free will just to escape all this hate, but even there they were hated among most of youkai. But in one day unlike her sister, Koishi just closed her third eye to block reading mind ability, but when she did it, she lost her mind as well(she isn't crazy(or at least I think so....).). And by that I mean, that she can't think now(well at least she can still feel emotions) (I don't how it works, but btw). And she is so happy, because this danmaku is her pure emotions! About your theory about vanishing people's memories about her, I think that this is pretty interesting theory, but no, her ability is to manipulate unconscious. Also interesting fact: you can't see her if you not looking directly at her. But maybe you right too, because when she isn't nearby no one can remember her(except Satori) or even that they met someone( she is just vanish from existence in this world). Her first appearance was as Extra stage boss in Touhou 11 Subterranean Animism. Another interesting fact:Satori can't read her mind, because she can't think anymore and because of that she is very worried about her, because she don't know what is she doing on surface(usually Koishi just can't remember anything about it). Also I don't know how, but she is in good terms with Marisa(at least in fighting games). There my theory: I think Satori is way stronger, than Koishi(at least now) even if she just fourth stage boss, because she use only one of her spells( causing to remember bad memories) and even Yukari said, that having a long fight with her is very dangerous even for Reimu, on other side Koishi used all of her spells, and she still isn't stronger than Flandre. Well I don't think, that we will ever see her True power, because she is very calm and for her there is no need to go all out to defeat a pretty power Youkai. And this is sad.... Well I guess it's all for today! I hope it will help!
Ah thanks again Frezzing! c: And Sanae sounds like a funny character, like the idea of frogs and control miracles, pretty op stuff in its own! c: And yea I mixed up Satori and Koishi, sorry for that >u< Though thanks for you and everyone explaining about them and make sure I get them right! : D Some hefty read, thank you for that! c:
I elaborated on the Danmaku system last video, so I think I'll elaborate on Gensokyo itself this one, Gensokyo being the land. Item the first, Gensokyo. Gensokyo, in summation, is something along the lines of an indeterminate amount of real estate located in the Yatsugatake Mountains of Japan. Known as the Imaginary Eastern Wonderland, Gensokyo is one of the very few magical sanctuaries that still exists in Touhou's Earth. In Touhou, magic requires human belief to function. This can be extended to say that all magical beings require belief to survive. Should humanity stop believing in magic, magical creatures, and even Gods, they will quite literally fade away. 500 years ago, this wasn't a problem, but Touhou is set in the modern times, and belief in magic has been largely replaced with science and technology, rendering the majority of Earth, or the Outside World uninhabitable to magical creatures and beings. Back when the belief first started waning, a clan of shrine keepers in Japan known as the Hakurei's and Yukari Yakumo worked together to create the Great Hakurei Barrier, which magically shunted around several mountain range's worth of Japanese land out of sync with reality and into a pocket dimension. Gensokyo itself is vast, and the games are always revealing new areas and inhabitants, such as the Moriya Shrine, Old and New Hell, the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Yuyuko's Cherry Blossom Orchard, and the Bamboo Forest. There's a human village filled with non-magical humans that borders the Forest of Spirits, where Marisa and Alice live. Reimu's home, also known as the Hakurei Shrine, is SUPPOSED to be the only way in and out of Gensokyo and the Barrier, but new people are always slipping in, whether magical or not. The most blatant example of this is when the Scarlet Devil Mansion and it's inhabitants(Remillia, Sakuya, Meiling, Patchoulli, Koakuma, and Flandre) migrated over to Gensokyo from Europe for some reason, quite literally taking the whole manor with them. Item the second, the Barrier itself. It's quite complicated, and I'm certainly not an expert on it by any metric, but the most basic function of the Barrier is, in Yukari's words, "to repel the mundane and attract the fantastic". It's a barrier of "common sense" that only affects living creatures and their creations. Natural phenomenon like sunlight shining upon the land, weather blowing into the sky, and rivers flowing into Gensokyo pass into the dimensional pocket with no trouble, but humans and machinery will not have such an easy time of it. The space around the edges of the barrier is non-euclidean, and someone trying to leave or enter on foot will have an easier time trying to climb one of Escher's staircases. Like I said earlier, the only reliable way in and out for ordinary humans is the Hakurei Shrine, where Reimu can be asked to ferry them across the Barrier. Magical beings like youkai and gods on the other hand can enter the Barrier with no trouble, they just can't get out without assistance or uncommon abilities. This could be attributed to the fact that Gensokyo naturally attracts magical energy and beings, and acts like a form of gravity. Plus the fact that unless the person wanting to leave is either very high on the magical food chain or a normal human, they WILL start fading to nothing if they don't have a source of belief. The Spellcard Rules are also tied into the Barrier, meaning that when a magical creature crosses over, they are automatically added to the Rules. Outside Humans don't have that luxury, meaning that the Spellcard Rule DO NOT apply to them, and Youkai WILL try to eat them unless they either leave or join the human village, which is under Reimu's protection as the Hakurei Shrine Maiden. Item the third, Reimu. She is the Hakurei Shrine Maiden, arguably THE most important position in Gensokyo. Her duties are many-fold, but can be summed up to three: Preserve the peace between humans and youkai, deal with Incidents, and maintain the Hakurei Barrier. The first one is simple, prevent the youkai from hurting or killing Gensokyo's population of humans, and prevent the humans from hunting youkai. The latter is pretty simple given that the humans like to steer clear from the youkai, but the youkai can get uppity at times. If a youkai puts the humans at risk, they get a beatdown. If anyone gets killed, the youkai is exterminated, and I use the word with feeling. Technically speaking, she's supposed to always exterminate the youkai, but Reimu is pretty lax. With Danmaku, this portion of Reimu's duties is a breeze nowadays. Incidents are... the games basically. Remillia covering the land with a scarlet mist, Yuyuko stealing spring, the night not ending, or Utsuho deciding to bathe the surface in nuclear hellfire by misunderstanding the voices in her head. Incidents are shorthand for a youkai acting up because something either got out of hand or they're just bored with the peace and quiet and want to have some fun. Reimu's duties as the Shrine Maiden dictate that whenever this happens, she exterminate the source. Reimu is just content with beating the snot out of the culprit and going home for tea and a nap. Her last duty is simply to maintain the Barrier. Her clan was one of the original creators of it, and someone of their blood must be the Shrine Maiden to support it with their magic. Yukari CAN hold it by herself, but it's very taking for her and is only to be done in emergencies. Last thing, Reimu's powers. Unlike a lot of Gensokyo's inhabitants, Reimu actually has two powers. The first of these she inherited from her clan, Border and Purification magic. Her ofuda, or tags, and the yin-yang orbs she uses are an example of this, as well as the blue portals and barriers she can create. It's kind of difficult to gauge her level considering the only other border user we see is Yukari, but Reimu is very good with it, able to summon massive physical barriers in the Yukari video, as well at the laser gate for Marisa's Master Spark, and able to open portals to absorb attacks and even escape the side-dimension that Koishi accidentally sneezed her into in this video. Her unique ability, that belongs solely to Reimu Hakurei, is to Float. Sounds underwhelming right? It should, literally everyone in Gensokyo can fly in some manner. That is, if flying was all the Reimu's Float could do. It's CONCEPTUAL floating, giving Reimu the ability to "float" through life. This grants her absurd luck, most of the time Reimu can simply pick a direction at random during an Incident and be heading right for the culprit. Another time she crossed a river without noticing by stepping on a school of fish that breached the water in just the right manner. She didn't even get her socks wet. Reimu's ultimate Spellcard is to "float" away from reality, allowing her to pass through all of an enemy's Danmaku and outright ignore reality, even Yukari being unable to affect her in this state. This ability is so unfair, it wasn't even allowed in Reimu's Danmaku matches until Marisa named it and suggested a time limit. Hope these have been informative Lore textblocks Lano, hope you like them.
Wow, that was a big read, but really interesting to learn more of it! ovo Gonna re-read this a couple of times so I get it into my head xD Though like the idea of the world Gensokyo ovo Thanks for sharing this with me Nathaniel!
thanks for reacting the minusT series i suggested, now i hope to you get deeper in this huge (really huge) world of touhou playing&reacting to more stuff I already suggested & sent it to potato the Osana Reimu / Reireimu series (video manga 18episode,I SERIOUSLY recommend this one pls trust me ) and one little part of Touhou M-1 Grand Prix series if you liked you can do a reaction of the whole episode(nearly one hour each episode
Now that we’ve gone through all of minusT’s current works, I recommend watching “Osana Reimu” fanmade Touhou comic series, and its sequel “Reireimu”. Although not canon, it’s a really good backstory for the touhou series, showing the protagonists’ childhood and the creation of the spellcard system *(be warned tho, this series will give you the feels, so get some tissues ready)*. “Osana Reimu” has videos with a japanese dub and english sub on UA-cam, and while “Reireimu” can be found on UA-cam as well, it does not have any dub available (although it has english subs).
Im gonna try to take a look on that in the future too, would be cool to read some comics and such after watching all of these! c: And gonna see about all the stuff!
Hi again! I guess it's time for me to tell you more about characters(Why I am even doing this!?). Well I guess you already know about Reimu and Yukaru from me, but I want to tell one more fact about Yukari: She created Gensokyo by creating barrier between fantasy and reality(well there are two characters, who helped her in creating this world(Okina Matara and Kasen Ibaraki(I'll tell you about them later(much later)))). So she can even create worlds(she is to OP)! Well about characters in Reimu's Team: Suika Ibuki(Horned one with Yukari)- She is an Oni , who can manipulate density and sparseness. Her first appearance was as final boss in Touhou 7,5 Immaterial and Missing Power(I will not going to telll you about plot of this game, so don't worry). She is very strong in all ways( especially in physical abilities(not stronger(physically) than Yuugi though(you can read about her under your Subterranean Stars video) ) and even if you think, that you can beat her, then think about it again, because due to her abilities she can turn herself into the mist, create several copies of herself, and even turn a giant! Also, when she in the mist form she can spread herself all over Gensokyo to see everything(literally). Also as every Oni Suika like to drink sake and She is being drunk for thousand years! Aya Shameimaru(reporter with camera) - She is crow tengu, who can control wind. Her first appearance was in Touhou 9 Phantasmagoria of Flower View. She is fastest in Gensokyo, but even with this her true speed limits unknown(well she can fly through all three worlds(Gensokyo, Netherworld and Former Hell) in one day and write a newspaper, which will be delivered to readers in the next morning). She looks pretty weak. but sometimes she can ,,accidentally" win fights against very strong characters like Reimu and Remilia, and because of that her true power limits is also unknown. Well I will write about Reimu's opponents in next comment! P.S. I leaved a second comment under Subterranean Stars video. There is plenty of useful information!
Hey Frezzing! c: And damn, Yukari can do that much? She just even more broken damn! ovo That is some interesting characters with Ibuki and Aya! Finally a tengu too woo! : D Thanks for explaining about them, really interesting to read about them ovo
Ohh, man... I feel stupid... I leaved my comment(I think you missed it or it's youtube's fault as always) not under Subterranean Stars, but under your last Touhou 7 Perfect Cherry Blossom video. There is some useful tips about next game. Hope it will help!
A fun fact I don't know how many people pointed out (because I certainly didn't notice until I saw a comment a few days ago) : Reimu actually "gets hit" twice during this fight -- her little Yin Yang orbs symbolize her 'lives' in-game, and she loses two of them in the fight -- one off-screen, while dealing with the "Philosophy of a Hated Person" attack. Just to show you how strong EX stage bosses are supposed to be. And she does all this subconsciously. Imagine if she could consciously control and improve her powers! (Not to mention this is her 'playing.' Imagine if she got serious.)
If you’re gonna play another Touhou game, do *not* go with Subterranean Animism or Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. You’ll suffer a hell that nobody would want to experience.
If you don't have any Touhou vid yet, try to watch 【Touhou MMD】Remilia's Dangerous Gungnir in Gensokyo【東方】 I have your reaction very much, that's real me XD
LanokirX “it’s not an Assassination Attempt silly, it’s a surprise Danmaku match!” -Alternate Dimension Koishi who has been corrupted by EA... I think.
@@LanokirX by the way, have you seen that fight between meruem and netero ? Also, I've seen another video with reimu vs utsuho. Less good than minisT, but ! Its still good stuff.
Your reaction was just what I needed xD Koishi is so kind and innocent that it hurts to know her backstory... Protect Koishi... Sounds so weird to say that considering I'm a Kokoro-lover and those two are at war. Koishi's power is to manipulate and read people's subconscious
Koishi is one of my favorite Touhou characters. Her backstory and psychology themed attacks are so interesting. Here's some clarification on her character:
Koishi is the sister of Satori, who you've seen briefly in Subterranean Stars.
She has her own side-games Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler, which are like Pokemon Snap with pain and suffering (SCREW YOU SEAMLESS CEILING OF KINKAKUJI AGHHHHH)
Next is my favorite stage 4 of all time from Imperishable Night. Really looking forward to the big showdown in the bamboo forest!
Ah, must say I like Koishi so far! Though feel very sad of her :c Must protecc!
Think its pretty cool how her abilities are named after psychology like that, just neat! ovo
Paparazzi Tengu, never thought I would hear that but here I am xD Thanks for explaining it Chimera! : D

*Warning! Long information dump ahead*
To make things easier, I’ve split it into 3 parts:
*Introduction*; where I briefly explain Koishi’s abilities
*Spellcards*; I show the name and time of all the spellcards used in this animation
*Explanation*; in-depth explanation of Koishi’s most important spellcards and what they symbolise (sad backstory in this section)
*Introduction*
Koishi is a Satori, a kind of Youkai that can read people’s minds with their third eye.
*Spellcards*
Spellcards are special bullet patterns, in case you didn’t know
Sanae’s spellcards
3:05 Nine Syllable Stabs
3:25 Miracle Fruit (The fruit that multiplies each day if not eaten)
3:55 Bumper Crop Rice Shower
(She also uses her shot types, the snakes that change trajectory, and the exploding frogs. Forgot what they were called tho :P)
Koishi’s spellcards
6:00 All Ancestors Standing Beside Your Bed
6:28 Danmaku Paranoia (very scary)
7:18 Release of the Id (Koishi releases her Id (Instincts) in the form of hearts :D)
7:55 Super-Ego (Koishi uses her Super-Ego to supress her Id, containing her Id (hearts) back inside her)
8:57 Youkai Polygraph
9:46 Rorschach in Danmaku (The patterns kinda look like Rorschach ink blot tests, don’t they?)
10:14 The Embers of Love
10:37 Genetics of the Subconscious (The pattern is a double helix spiral, like the DNA)
11:00 Philosophy of a Hated Person (Possibly the saddest spellcard in the series :( More info down below)
11:50 Subterranean Rose (Koishi’s most beautiful spell, More info down below)
*Explanation*
“Philosophy of a Hated Person”, the embodiment of Koishi’s traumatic past.
As she said herself, "reading people's minds is depressing, there's nothing good about it." But what she didn't know that closing it would also means sealing her own conscious mind away (in short, she lost all her emotions, thoughts, motives, ect. she acted out purely based on her instinct)
'Koishi's presence cannot be "felt" by anyone unless she has entered their direct field of vision, and is forgotten as soon as she leaves it. In general, she doesn't have a personality. However, children enjoy her presence as one of an imaginary friend, whom they forget about once they grow up. She could no longer be hated, but neither could she be loved, or even remembered by people who saw her.'
In 13:01 Koishi held her Third eye up because she somewhat regretted closing it, now wanting to know more and meeting new people (acording to the game anyway)
That is honestly very sad, I feel bad for Kioshi :c Have the feeling need to protecc Koishi!
Someone beat me to lore this time, will just explain abilities with examples of attacks from video/games (in more detail than previous)
Suika Ibuki
Abilities: Strength, Flame and Density Manipulation
Suika has the natural strength of an oni as you would expect.
Aya Shimaemaru
Abilities: Speed and wind
Not notably strong but really fast (as the other guy mentioned in the lore dump).
Yukari Yakumo
Abilities: Gap and boundary manipulation, two shikigami; Ran and Chen Yakumo
You have seen most of her abilities, I will instead explain the unseen (and unknown).
Franci & Drake good job for the whole explanation! Also Marisa vs Reimu is gonna be fun to watch haha
6:42 you think? Its one of the scariest spellcards, you are forced on this tiny deathly circle while she shotguns you with bullets, i dont remember the name but it was very fitting.
Danmaku paranoia.
Should call it Shotgun hell, cause that is pretty scary stuff D:
As for the characters:
First shown are Marisa, Nitori, and Reimu.
Oh so its related to Subterranean Stars like that, pretty cool, had no idea of that : O And an Oni that can manipulate density sounds pretty damn stronk I say! xD
I feel so sad for Koishi for sure damn, wanna gief her a hug :c
koishi woud cous heart attacks with how frikin adorable she is (its her sub-concses that makes her disapear shes got no controll over it happend after she closed her 3rd eye)
makes sense bc koish literally uses heart attacks (attacks shaped like hearts)
Character names: (I'm not going to go into detail, because it seems about 7 other people end up wanting to explain the same thing multiple times)
Reimu as Reimu
Marisa as Marisa
Yukari as Yukari
Suika Ibuki at 1:18 (Oni race, age unknown, manipulate density and sparseness)
Aya Shameimaru at 1:21 (Crow Tengu race, news reporter, 1000+ years old, wind manipulator, pretty much one of the fastest if not THE fastest character, is a playable character in some games.) A fun fact, Aya most likely has the ability to travel close to or at the speed of light, some characters have fast attacks such as Youmu Konpaku who we saw in a previous video, an extremely fast swordsman, and it is not confirmed but some characters can probably perceive things close to the speed of light, but Aya is probably the fastest at flight.
You can probably tell that she is in my top 3 characters from Touhou.*
Sanae Kochiya at 2:57 (Human race, Shrine Maiden of a different Shrine, age unknown, power to cause miracles)
Koishi Komeiji (Satori race, Satori Komeiji's younger sister, age unknown, Manipulation of the Unconscious Mind)
I can go into a little more detail, but I am not sure how much you want explained, seeing as you might be playing more games and these characters might be featured there.
Oh damn, didnt know that, that is pretty creepy D:

That is pretty mindfucked @_@
That is pretty cool that they are refering to such thing, cool spells ovo

@@LanokirX no problemo my dude.
Koishi has been one of my most favorite character out of all of the Touhou characters.
And yes, I know all of the Incredibly Cute to Painfully Depressing to Horrifyingly Disturbing fan stories or even stories that could be canon for Koishi.
Ah, think Koishi is pretty interesting, though sad stories about her :c
You are right about the banishing being her slipping from people memories, but she doesn't do it consciously, which is why she's so happy when Reimu was able to predict where she would appear in 8:47
As others have explained, her forcefully closing her third eye caused her some damage to her psyche and to make a long story short: she has the empathy and maturity of a child, wearing her heart on her sleeve, she's impulsive and doesn't consider the consequences of her actions nor how it affects others. You'll see more of this during the story of Hopeless Maskerade, one of the fighting games.
Ahh that makes more sense about her reaction then yes ovo
And its sad that it happened, feel bad for her. :c

Hi! It's me! And this is another split in two comment(I guess you still not tired of reading this huh? Then let's begin!).
Reimu's opponents:
Sanae Kochiya(Green shrine maiden with frogs) She is shrine maiden of Moriya shrine, who can control miracles. After Utsuho incident(which was Kanako's fault) Koishi(main antaginist in this video) wanted to gain superpower too and after Satori told about this to us(probably to Yukari(sorry I don't know to which character...)) about that Reimu was trying to stop her, but Sanae misunderstood
all of this, so she just attacked Reimu.
Another interesting fact:Satori can't read her mind, because she can't think anymore and because of that she is very worried about her, because she don't know what
is she doing on surface(usually Koishi just can't remember anything about it).
Some hefty read, thank you for that!
Wow, that was a big read, but really interesting to learn more of it! ovo Gonna re-read this a couple of times so I get it into my head xD Though like the idea of the world Gensokyo ovo Thanks for sharing this with me Nathaniel!
thanks for reacting the minusT series i suggested, now i hope to you get deeper in this huge (really huge) world of touhou playing&reacting to more stuff
I already suggested & sent it to potato the Osana Reimu / Reireimu series (video manga 18episode,I SERIOUSLY recommend this one pls trust me ) and one little part of Touhou M-1 Grand Prix series if you liked you can do a reaction of the whole episode(nearly one hour each episode
Ah, thank you for watching c: And Im gonna check and play more for sure! And gonna check on the list that you sent to potato too. c:
Im gonna try to take a look on that in the future too, would be cool to read some comics and such after watching all of these! c: And gonna see about all the stuff!
i got the good news, minusT just recently upload new 3D touhou video called eternal night part-0
and only after the tenth time watching this do i realize the intro ties into marisa vs utsuho.
Well about characters in Reimu's Team:
Suika Ibuki(Horned one with Yukari)- She is an Oni , who can manipulate density and sparseness.
She just even more broken damn! ovo
That is some interesting characters with Ibuki and Aya!
Not just Yukari. The Sages Of Gensokyo did.
@@Latency345 And the Dragon Gods, and some humans too. :D
Hieda no Ajuu Yep! Though no one knows about the Dragon God much.
Koishi is Kawaii!!
Five years ago.She has been ranked number one in popularity polls.
Oh, she was ranked nr1? Dang, thats cool. ovo
@@LanokirX
Koishi also ranked third in this year's popularity poll! She is very popular in Japan.
Next series......Reimu vs Marisa. waiting 1~2 year......maybe.
Arrhg, the waiting! D:
If you’re gonna play another Touhou game, do *not* go with Subterranean Animism or Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom. You’ll suffer a hell that nobody would want to experience.
Well gonna play them too in the future, though I will go in order for now. : D
And I thought people wanted me to suffer! xDD
If you don't have any Touhou vid yet, try to watch 【Touhou MMD】Remilia's Dangerous Gungnir in Gensokyo【東方】
I have your reaction very much, that's real me XD
Ah I have some that will come soon for sure! c:
And thank you, happy you enjoy it! xD
Koishi may be cute, but it's best not to cross paths with her.
Probably best not yea D:
LanokirX “it’s not an Assassination Attempt silly, it’s a surprise Danmaku match!”
-Alternate Dimension Koishi who has been corrupted by EA... I think.
Thank you boy ! I love you..
Haha thank you! : D
@@LanokirX by the way, have you seen that fight between meruem and netero ?
Also, I've seen another video with reimu vs utsuho.
Less good than minisT, but !
Its still good stuff.
Ah no I havent : o Gonna try to watch it in the future too c:
Very good video
Thank you! : D
i smell video card
That timing Lano
imgur.com/a/VlLdfh2
Your reaction was just what I needed xD
Koishi is so kind and innocent that it hurts to know her backstory... Protect Koishi...
Sounds so weird to say that considering I'm a Kokoro-lover and those two are at war.
Koishi's power is to manipulate and read people's subconscious
Oh gosh, what timing! xDD
And so happy you enjoyed the reaction! >u< And Koishi seems so sweet qvq
That is some crazy poweers for sure damn ovo
