10:24 According to the Lore, these Spells and attacks MUST have some space to let the opponent be able to get through it without getting hit. These are Spell Card Rules. According to those rules, attacks MUST be avoidable and the MUST NOT deal any meaningful damage, so basically everything is almost harmless and in th games noone is really trying to kill you
    *Coughs in Junko*
    Well, most of the times...
Another important part of these rules is not to abuse your powers to be unbeatable and to accept defeat after a certain amount of sustained hits.
And these rules are widely respected and agreed upon: from the depths of the New Hell and to the Lunar Capital.

After brambly boundaries comes eternal night part 0 and 1. Watch both at the same time if you want. This and brambly will be touhou 11. Utsuho often called okuu, is a hell raven who controls nuclear fusion and has the power of the sun, courtesy of a sun god that she ate. In the plot she basically went mad with power and was threatening being a nuclear bomb to the land. Marissa only went to old hell, yes they are in literal hell, to stop the bad spirits from escaping hell, but that was because of okuu doing this. Long story that's the short version.

Well, rather than going mad with power, she's such a birdbrain that she misunderstood Kanako's instructions.
She got the power to control nuclear fusion, and so thought that rekindling Old Hell would benefit the underground, therefore, turning aboveground into a burning hell would probably benefit them, as well. Yes, she's *that* stupid.
Figuring out that something was wrong, Rin sent a bunch of spirits up to the surface in the hopes of attracting the attention of somebody that could stop Utsuho.

The usual format for a touhou game (at least the era I've played) is six stages. The first five are full-length, have a boss fight at the end and a mid-boss in the middle (which might be a preview of the stage boss). The sixth stage is usually very short, you have a brief rematch with the stage five boss, and then you have a *long* boss fight with the final boss.
(then there is the extra stage, which is sort of an extra-hard epilogue stage)
In this video, the "boss rush" part was showcasing a brief glimpse of the boss fight from the individual stages, before getting into the final boss fight.
The Reimu v. Yuyuko video, incidentally, showed off the entirety of stage 6 from its game. The other previous videos were just depicting the final/extra boss fights. (Technically, Yukari was the extra extra boss)

This is the 3D animation of Touhou 11 : Subterranean Animism. Subterreanean just means underground, but ZUN has a rather peculiar English naming sense. Summarizing the plot, everyone's favorite nuclear bird Ustuho 'Okuu' Reiuji (the main enemy here) recently gained the power of nuclear fusion after some trickery by the Moriya Shrine. The Moriyas were the antagonists of the previous game Touhou 10 MoF, not bad people really but they just moved in Gensokyo from the Outside and cause nothing but trouble for five games straight. Hence every new game is a 'Moriya conspiracy'. But back to the underground, so Okuu happens to be the pet bird of Satori Komeiji (pink-haired, mind-reading youkai who works as a detective part-time, comes with integrated cables and a third eye). Satori's main job is managing Old Hell -and having her own official manga Chireikiden.- Why is it called Old Hell ? This is the former location of Hell situated right under the ground of Gensokyo (hence the title, hence the visuals), but the place turned out too small and actual Hell was moved to a different dimension. There's a lot I could say on actual Hell but let's leave that aside for now.
The point is, the Moriyas gave Okuu her nuclear power so that they could harness energy from it and eventually start an industrial revolution in Gensokyo. Doing so would have massively altered the power balance between gods, humans and youkai, but more immediately, giving such world-ending powers to a litteral birdbrain was a stupid idea. The overflowing energy coming from underground gave a start to volcanic activity and geysers have started to come out. Except, because the geysers come from Old Hell, they carry evil spirits to the surface with them - and these are deadly for humans and youkai alike. The whole thing became a massive headache and Gensokyo's big shots have decided to do something about it.
The two player characters are Reimu and Marisa. This vid you see Marisa for stages 1-6, next vid will be Reimu for the extra stage. They are for the occasion assisted by old friends who will loan some of their abilities (read : shot types) to help. Marisa's friends are :
    - Patchouli Knowledge. First appeared TH6 EoSD stage 4 boss, the librarian at Remilia Scarlet's mansion. A youkai magician whose books constantly gets stolen by Marisa. She controls the full elemental magic roster but her asthma/anemia prevents her from going outside.
    - Alice Margatroid. First appeared TH5 MS, reappeared TH7 PCB making her one of the few characters who survived the transition from PC-98 era (Touhou 1-5) to Windows era (Touhou 6 onwards). She's a youkai magician and doll user who is essentially Marisa's neighbor. Detailing her backstory would take a freaking novel and there's no time but would you listen *BGM Alice in Wonderland* _starts playing._
    - Nitori Kawashiro. First appeared Touhou MoF, stage 3 boss. A kappa who is the closest thing this world has to an engineer. Got on board when she heard about nuclear power and made that sweet hi-tech broom for Marisa. Otherwise standard kappa behaviour, she's short, lives near water and has an unhealthy obsession with cucumbers.
Marisa thus dived, at her own peril, into Old Hell, mowed down countless fairies and spirits along the way, defeated a disease-inducing spider youkai (Yamame), a bridge-guarding and extremely jealous youkai (Parsee), a passing overpowered oni who's in for the laughs (Yuugi), the cheating mind-reading detective Satori herself, her pet the catgirl who steals corpses yet is somehow the most decent of the bunch (Orin), and her other pet the nuclear bird Okuu, in that order.
The game is a strong contender for hardest Touhou game. Okuu's final fight is especially challenging as the hitboxes are unforgiving. BGM Nuclear Fusion does a great job at putting things into perspective : _why do I hear boss music ?_ -> *_oh god i'm screwed_*

    In order of appearance...Ohh boy.
Patchouli Knowledge: The girl in purple. And the one putting the mini Hakkero together with magic. Her ability is akin to elemental manipulation.
Alice Margotroid: The blonde with the blue dress and dolls. A magician that specializes in Doll manipulation using steel string. Her magic is closer to Autonomy of objects.
Nitori: A Kappa with low magic that is specializes in water magic. All kappa's are good at building machines she is no exception. Don't quite get the technology usage here considering how...backwards Gensokyo is in Touhou Lore.
The Main event character of this game and well video.
Utsuho Reiuji the Hell Raven: You're not wrong about creating suns in fact that's Yatagarasu doing after being trick to eat the Sun God Crow Yatagarasu. The Arm cannon isn't suppose to be a cannon it's just a giant control rod to channel the ridiculous amount of magic Utsuho is now capable of. If you're confuse who that is it's the girl with the giant wings and the Eyeball embedded in her chest.
It'll take...way to long to do everyone that was shown here.

So this is from Subterranean Animism, 2nd most difficult game in the series.
And it's plot is a trip.
The reason for Marisa's little team in the video is In this game Marisa has 3 partner characters to determine her shot type.
    The characters are 2 Magicians,
    Alice with the dolls,
    Patchouli in the pajamas
(Patchouli is the one who keeps Flandre in the basement when she's mad).
As well as Nitori, a Kappa Yokai with a big backpack. Kappa in Touhou are the only characters who've got a good grasp of technology.
(With the exception of Moriya Shrine, more on that later)
The plot is basically evil Spirits are leaking out of "Former Hell" So Marisa goes in to investigate.
(Yes former hell, eastern myth has a lot of hells)
This video goes through all of the Subterranean Animism bosses.
    They are
First boss : Yamame, a spider Yokai with disease manipulation powers.
She threatens Marisa and attacks her.
    2nd Boss: Parsee
She's a bridge spirit whose been possessed by envy living on a bridge nobody uses anymore. Her power is manipulating envy in others.
    She attacks Marisa because
"I have no idea who you are, but I can think of lots of reasons to hate you"
So she picks a fight out of petty envy.
    3rd boss is -Yugi Muto-
Oh sorry, i mean Yuugi Hoshiguma.
She's an Oni, one of the 4 Oni Devas based on Hindu myth.
    Reason for the fight
Yuugi is bored and decides to challenge Marisa to see if she can make her spill a drop of Sake while she fights her. Jojo style.
Marisa succeeds and as a reward she leads her to the next boss.
    _____________________________
    Plot actually starts around here,
    ______________________________
    4th Boss
    Satori Komeiji
"The girl with the eye no one loves" / crazy pet lady.
Satori can see minds/hearts using her creepy floating eyeball.
This is actually why in this game so many characters are helping Marisa but not willing to go themselves. They all have secrets they don't want Satori to know.
    As to the plot
Satori took over "The Palace of Earth Spirits" after "Former Hell" was abandoned for the current hell.
She current lives there with a ton of pets, so many pets. She can read minds so they are basically like people to her. And she has them run "The Hell Of Blazing Fires" for her.
She fights Marisa because she's an extremely cynical person.
(She can read minds so people really don't like her, and she knows it)
She actually is shown using her power to copy the Spellcards of Marisa's partners.
    5th Boss: Rin/ Orin
    Satori's pet cat / "Hell's Traffic Accident"
This cat has attacked you as a Midboss on like 3 stages in the shape of a cat.
She's in charge of taking fresh corpses to the "Hell of Blazing Fires" to keep it fueled.
Something very very bad has happened to another one of Satori's pets, but Rin/Orin doesn't want Satori to find out. So she's been sending vengeful spirit from Hell up to the surface world hoping someone would come help.
She's fighting Marisa because despite calling for her help, Rin/Orin is a stupid cat and thinks she's a corpse for her to burn.
    Final Boss: Utsuho / Okuu
    Satori's pet Hell Raven
"The bird who swallowed the Sun"
Okuu used to just be Satori's pet who happens to be exceptionally stupid.
But someone decided to feed her a God.......
    Brief context
So, in Touhou 10, a place called Moriya Shrine was brought into Gensokyo, it has an extremely ambitious God named Kanako who's been in the outside world, Kanako wants to harness freaking Nuclear Fusion.
So Kanako took the 3-legged Crow God Of the Sun Yatagarasu and fed it to the dumbest thing she could find, so that Nuclear Fusion could fit into its brain.
    i.e Okuu.
Giving her the simple instruction to send the power upwards.
Unfortunately Okuu goes absolutely insane with power, and plans to burn absolutely everything and goes full Nuclear.

If i recall, the reason the partners don't come down with you has less to do with Satori specifically and more to do with a diplomatic arrangement that forbids surface youkai from entering the underground and vice versa, (after the events of the game i believe they renegotiate or something and youkai begin passing in and out of the caves fairly regularly.)

    To answer questions:
2:10 Yup, that is Marisa. She just changed to warmer clothes. There is the occasional minor tweak to characters from game to game, sometimes story-related, sometimes not (In the next game she's shown wielding a wand that she never uses =P)
2:40 They weren't really flowers, they were bullets massed together to make a flower shape.
2:54 The only thing that was skipped was the actual stages. The process for levels tends to go; schmup (shooting down normal enemies while grabbing items and dodging shots), mid-fight, schmup, boss. Repeat 6 times to win =P
3:15 Yeah the games tend to cycle through characters to keep new threats and bullet patterns coming (there's no real dedicated bad guy). Shoot there are some that only show up in the printworks (yes Touhou has manga =P). Some are more recognizable than others due to being shown longer, having more importance to the world, or close connections to the MCs (Reimu and Marisa. They show up in all but a few spinoffs).
3:30 Again, just cutting the stages and getting to the boss fights. The games don't have boss rushes (I say this is largely due to the difficulty gap of earlier stages vs. later ones)
4:15 It kinda is. Basically Marisa's schtick (one of them anyway) is using magic-enhanced tools to bolster her magic attacks, like her broom (she can fly without it, she just considers it an essential tool. In the fighters she uses it as a melee weapon) and Hakkero (the octagonal device she uses to fire the big F-You laser and propel her broom in the previous vids).
The 2 girls in the library are magicians (magician is it's own species in this world. Marisa is a normal human who trained herself to use magic) and thus don't need tech. The devices they are using for her to aid Marisa and keep in contact (as she's basically journeying way underground). Meanwhile Nitori (the blue haired girl operating the computer) fights mainly via tech (she appears in the 2nd gen of fighters using mainly gadgets to attack like mechanical arms, rockets, and bombs).
Sadly you don't get the jet broom in game :(
4:58 You don't go down any tunnels during the actual in-game fight. A lot of the things done here are MinusT trying to make the fight more realistic and cinematic (to really great effect =P) compared to a 2D vertical shooter screen.
6:47 That's another thing done for style points. In-game you pick 1 of the 3 helpers and they alone guide Marisa/Reimu (different helpers, you'll see em next vid) through the underground. Who you pick determines what shots you have and gives you some form of bonus perk. This was done to show them all off.
    8:50 Hey I resent that =P
I said it in another comment but I'll reiterate: the attacks in the animation are blown up to fit the 3D space and to make it more cinematic. Nothing wrong with this (hell I applaud it), but it's far from unavoidable (still tough though, it IS the final boss).
I'd suggest watching some actual footage of the stage (try Touhou 11 final boss) then watch this again and you'll see immediately what I mean (basically MinusT is going "what if the game was in 3D and epic AF" and knocking it out of the park =P)
    10:26 I got through it =P
In addition to above point, you have a much smaller hitbox in game than is shown here (basically dead center of character. That's the origin of the "graze 20" joke from the SrPelo vid; didn't hit dead center so it was technically dodged =P) so maneuvering through it is nowhere as tight as it's shown here (in-game it's basically 2 big fireballs on the top and bottom of the screen that fire smaller fireballs you have to dodge through. If the entire sprite was a hurtbox, it'd be physically impossible).
12:15 Well the attack is called 'Subterranean Sun' so sure, we'll go with that =P
It's actually nuclear fusion. Basically every Touhou character has 1-2 defining abilities that serve as the basis for how their attacks work. Boss birb's is nuclear fusion, hence her attacks are mostly giant-ass fireballs and this move could basically be seen as a meltdown (in game it sucks you in along with with the smaller bullets and then spitting more out. The final boss's last attack tends to be extra long attacks that get harder as you go on; in this case, pulling you harder and generating faster drawn-in bullets)

  • @ultra824
    @ultra824 Рік тому +1

Okuu's spells are tough, but they're refreshingly straightforward after the rest of touhou 11. Yamame is fairly typical of a stage one boss but parsee has some oddball spells that require unusual movement to avoid, yuugi has a rhythm to her attacks that require timing and positioning, Satori copies spells your partner used in previous games (note that _yukari_ is a partner option for reimu), and Orin has you moving all over the damn screen. Okuu isn't _easier_ but her thing is biiiiiig sun bullets and that's basically it, so it's a lot more typical for the series.

  • @NHussNJ
    @NHussNJ Рік тому +2

Ok, going to end up doubling up on some other people's explanations, but here we go:
Blonde girl with doll(s): Alice Margatroid, Marisa's neighbor and reluctant friend. Youkai magician who used to be a human (in Touhou there's 3 types of 'magicians'. Ones who can use magic but are still human. Human magic-users who have become powerful enough and learned spells to no longer age or need to eat, and thus become a magical being. And lastly those who are straight up born a youkai magician.) Alice has the distinction of being one of two characters besides Reimu and Marisa to come from the "PC-98 games" (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil is the first of the 'modern' Windows-era games, but is actually the 6th game in Touhou overall). Her Ability is to "Operate Puppets" with magic, allowing her to use them as servants, or as mobile turrets when fighting.
Purple-haired girl with moon hat ornament: Patchouli Knowledge, the Librarian of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and Remilia's best friend. She is a from-birth youkai magician, with the Ability to manipulate the traditional Eastern elements with her magic (Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, Earth, Sun, Moon). Marisa tends to steal books from her library, but they're still kind-of friends.
An additional bit of trivia: Marisa and Patchouli are mirrors of each other in a lot of ways. Patchouli is a reclusive bookworm who barely leaves the library, and while originally from Europe uses asian-style magic. Meanwhile, Marisa is a Japanese native who spends a lot of time outdoors looking for spell ingredients and practicing, and uses western-style magic.
Short-haired girl with backpack: Nitori Kawashiro, a kappa (a type of japanese water monster that traditionally looks like a cross between a frog/turtle/human, but in Touhou they are just cute girls who live near rivers and like technology). Her Ability is being able to Manipulate Water. The high-tech stuff here is just minusT's own take on things to make it look cool.
One of the mechanics of the game this video is based on is that once you select your player character... Reimu or Marisa... you then get to choose a 'partner' (from a list of three characters, with different set of choices for each player character) which determines what type of attacks and special abilities you have during gameplay, and also some of the in-game dialogue as they use what is effectively a magical 'radio' to stay in contact. You don't actually get to swap out mid-game/fight like what happens in the video, but is done here to let them all appear without leaving anyone out.
All the characters that show up to fight Marisa are various beings that have been banished or willingly retreated down into the Underworld due to either having too-dangerous abilities, or just not wanting to deal with the surface world anymore. The Underworld is a realm beneath Gensokyou made up of huge caverns and tunnels, as well as regions such as "Old Hell" which used to be ACTUAL hell (or one of them at least. Asian cultures have a lot of hells) but was abandoned due to overcrowding.
2:20 Yamame Kurodane: a tsuchigumo (japanese monster spider) with the Ability to "Manipulate Illnesses". She just fights here/in the game because she's suspicious of the PC showing up and talking to themselves (actually talking to their partners, but she can't actually hear them herself).
2:32 Parsee Mizuhashi: a hashihime, or "Bridge Princess". Essentially a type of demon that guards a bridge. Her Ability is to "Manipulate Jealousy". Similar to Yamame, she's suspicious of the PC, and attacks to keep them out of Old Hell.
2:41 Yuugi Hoshiguma: An Oni (a type of Japanese Demon-Ogre). SUPER-strong, and has the poorly-defined Ability of "Wielding Unexplainable/Unnatural Phenomena." She's a member of a group of Oni known as "The Big Four of the Mountain." She just fights the PC because Oni all love fighting. And drinking. And eating. And drinking. And fighting. And drinking. She actually is holding back when fighting by holding a drinking dish filled with sake and making sure that not a single drop spills while she battles.
2:53 Not skipping fights so much as rushing through them to get to the Final Boss.
Anyway, next up is Satori Komeji. Who is a... Satori, a type of youkai famous for being able to read minds (which is also her Ability). She is the Mistress of the Palace of Earth Spirits, and is effectively on of the few authorities in the Underworld and in charge of making sure the furnaces of the the Hell of Blazing Fires don't break down. One of the neat things in the game is that several of her attacks change depending on who your chosen Partner is, using patterns from when you fought them in previous games.
3:22 Rin Kaenbyou, nicknamed "Orin": A Kasha, a type of demon-cat, with the Ability to carry away corpses and to communicate with spirits. She's Satori's pet (no, I'm not joking. She acts more like a servant, but is literally her pet), and the corpses she retrieves are used as fuel in the previously-mentioned furnaces.
3:52 This is indeed the Final Boss. Utsuho Reiuji, nicknamed "Okuu". A Hell Raven, another of Satori's pets, who normally is in charge of maintaining the correct temperature of the Hell furnaces, which despite being a total ditz she is super-effective at. Her Ability is "The Manipulation of Nuclear Fusion." This was granted to her by a pair of gods that recently came to Gensokyou (they are introduced in a previous game. These videos have skipped over a bunch of games with Subterranean Animism being the 11th main title game). They wanted to use her to set up a nuclear reactor in the remains of the Old Hell furnaces to modernize Gensokyou, but in the process Okuu went power-crazy and started wanting to take over the Surface world.
4:14 It essentially is a combination, but again that's just minusT's personal aesthetic rather than the way the games actually are.
6:45 Yep. Makes for a good show, doesn't it?
11:14 And now you know why one of Okuu's titles is "Subterranean Sun." this spell... known as either "Hell's Artificial Sun" or "Subterranean Sun" depending on the game difficulty, actually has its own gravity that pulls in the player that you need to compensate for, on top of bullets/spheres also getting pulled in from behind them and the streams of ejecta spouting out from the 'sun'.
12:13 What do you mean "trying"?😁
13:46 Yeah, that's Rin again. As they're both Satori's pets they're also best friends. When Okuu went all "Conquer the Surface" Rin tried to talk her out of it, but when that failed she set up a bunch of geysers and heat vents to erupt in Gensokyou so that someone would come down to the Underworld and stop her friend... because she didn't want Okuu to get in trouble with Satori. Mind you, she originally expected one of the powerful youkai from the surface rather than a human, but after testing them in her earlier boss battle she felt they were up to the job. That or if they failed she'd get to collect their corpse.
14:55 That is not the girl from earlier in this video. This is her younger sister. She will be explained in due time.
15:42 If it helps any, there are several official side games that are not this type of bullet hell genre. There are 5 fighter-style games, and also a recent side-scroller game. Though you'd likely need to at least read up on some of the regular bullet hell games to get some of the backstory context and character info.

Okay so subertanian stars is based off subterranean animism unlike previous animations he's shown bits of the entire game and each boss. also i should point out that minus t skipped several games they skipped touhou 7.5 8-9-10 and 10.5
suberranean animism is the 11th game in the series they are in the process of going back to do touhou 8 however.
    to explain. the plot slightly.
evil spirits have been flying out of a gyser and causing trouble in gensokyo so marisa and reimu were sent into former hell to invesitage.
(yes the entire game takes place in a location called former hell.)
pachouli is from touhou 6 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devi) you would remember her as the librarian character.
shes an old witch/magician her magic specialty is Manipulation of fire, water, wood, metal, earth, sun, and moon. and is some times called the weekday magician because he magic is based on the Japanese days of the week. despite being extremely powerful she has both asthma, and anemia as well as a weak body overall. which is why she is almost never seen outside the Scarlet devil manor. she is frenemies to Alice and Marisa.
Alice is Marisa's neighbor in the forest of magic and yes her name and appearance are based off Alice in wonderland. She is another witch/magician. however her specialty is puppet sorcery she was technically first introduced in touhou 5, but that was for pc98 (1-5)
the windows era (6-current.) canon she was reintroduced in touhou 7. most her connections to makai seem to not be canon in windows era. She and Marisa are 'friends.'
now he third member of marisa's team in this game is
Nitori who is the only none witch/magician. she is a kappa who's power is to manipulate water, but her true skill is her engineering prowess she and Marisa are Business partners and more often then not business rivals.
she lives in the Genbu Ravine on youkai mountain. She claim's to be "ally of humans." but also looks down on them as inferiors. the current incident is also indirectly related to her since she helped build the place the final boss is in.
now for each boss marina encounters.
Yamane is the first boss she doesn't directly live in former hell, but hangs around a blow hole that acts as an entrance. that said she is a spider youkai that is to say a tsuchigumo. Her power is to spread and manipulate diseases. You name it she's got it. so most humans avoid her. she is also known for her construction work for other yokai.
second boss is Parsee she is a Hashihime guarding the bridge to former hell. her power is envy she makes people envious and is envious of everything she also gets stronger off envy. Not much is known about her back story, but it's can be guessed that she was cheated on by an unfaithful lover. since Hashihime are youkai who were once women who were cheated on and drowned themselves beneath a bridge. Just a heads up a majority of the touhou cast have some rather grim backstories.
third boss is Yuugi Hoshiguma is an Oni and is a perfect example of boss placement is not a coloration to power. Since she is by far stronger then the boss after her including the extra stage boss and even possibly the final boss. her power is Wielding unexplainable phenomena this power has never had an explanation to it. However, what is known is that her physical strength is insane. her just yelling can flatten trees and if she's not careful with her footsteps she can level buildings. She is one of the Big Four of the Mountain made up of Four very strong Oni generals.
She is also based off Jonathan from jojo's bizzare adventure. in this game she gets in the players way because she wants to have fun and a Oni's idea of fun is a brawl, but she's not actually fighting seriously.
fourth stage boss is satori i actually will probably hold off on a full backstory explanation since her's is tied to the character in the next video. i will say she is a satori who's power is to read minds and is connected directly to the current games incident as the final boss is one of her pets. Shes a social recluse who enjoys animals more then most youkai(not counting beast youkai.) or humans. she is also a detective for youkai and has a sister, but again more on her later.
fifth stage is one of satori's pets a Kasha called Rin Kaenbyou or just Orin she's basically a corpse eating cat with the power to talk to the zombies and phantoms. shes also close friends to the final boss. and the culprate behind the evil spirits on the surface. she sent them up to get help with the final boss who's basically gone berserk and drunk on power.
finally the final boss and the man antagonist in the video.
Utsuho Reiuji (also called Okuu) she actually as a pritty metal back story.
she didn't have any of her powers before touhou 11.
she was just a simple corpse eating hell raven, but a previous game antagonist from literally the game right before this one told her to eat the corpse of a God. Okuu got the powers nuclear fusion. since the corpse she ate was the Yatagarasu.
basically anything a sun can do she can do. the one who had her eat the corpse is also a god, but she wanted to use Okuu's new powers as a generator, but Okuu tries to take over gensokyo with it.

If there is one thing I learned about playing touhou that it is not really about reflexes or anything that special. What you need is practice and taking your time to memorize the attacks from both the stages and the bosses.

Thankfully, all of the official Touhou games are in 2D. They're still hard though.
Okuu's one of my favorites, even if her personality is relatively simple.

Every main touhou game. You need to beat boss stage 1-5
Before boss stage 6 and some mid boss
Then just fight extra stage boss
This vidio just show all boss before we go to beat main boss

I hate to break it to you but you're going have to get used to not knowing who characters are and what they do cause there's over 100 individual characters in Touhou. This will get better if you continue to dive into it, but It'll be a while before you get to a point of familiarity with most of the cast.

My favorite Touhou game, my favorite Touhou character, and my favorite MinusT animation!
Great reaction as always! I love how you are actively participating in your viewing and asking lot’s of questions. The fact you’ve inspired so many Touhou fans to go out of their way to explain lore and general context in such detail means you’re definitely doing something right.
Unfortunately, i cannot find a nice video comparison from animation to original game like i could the others. So instead, have this video of the Utsuho boss fight.

I’d still love for you try a game some time in the future. They aren’t as intimidating as a first impression may lead you to think. But even if you do find them scary, that would just make the satisfaction of finally clearing one even sweeter, right?

I concur. Trust me, Touhou is definitely worth trying at least once. Despite how intimidating MinusT makes it look (it's largely being upscaled in scope cuz 3D), you don't really need ultra twitch reflexes to work your way through. Knowledge of how the attacks are gonna play out and spatial awareness go a LOT farther towards beating the game than pure reflex. Yeah, it's still a bullet hell so it's still going to be rough, but it's far from impossible.
I'd definitely not start with this one (Touhou 11) tho, this one ranks way up in terms of difficulty (I've managed to beat it but it was not pretty. F--- Orin is all I'm saying on that). I'd say 6, 7, or 10 are great starting points. The series also has some excellent spinoff fighting games too.
