She was once a vampire slayer who was bested by remilia and became her maid in exchange for her life. The reason is because of her knives which are super effective on being like vampires and ghosts and such. 2. She herself is a vampire. It's weird but it is a theory that is floating around. I doubt it personally but it's around so yea. 3. She is a lunarian. During touhou 8, some dialogue between her, remilia and eirin suggest she was a lunarian. It also would explain her young looking status and the fact that her eyes can change color from blue to red. 4. She is just a human with powers and remilia recruited her off some deal. Low tier theory but is one still. Either way we literally know nothing. If she is indeed human, she is using her time space powers to slow aging, her age is unknown. Her name "sakuya izayoi" was given to her by remilia. Her true name unknown. She is literally a walking mystery of a being. For now she is the human maid, but well have fun playing the guessing game of whatever she is. Just don't mention pads around her, less she throw knives at you, which she can hit an apple off the head of a fairy perfectly from 30 meters away without her time hax. Proven fact. People just commonly believe that Sakuya is a human with power that was feared by other humans, then was taken in by the SDM. This theory is the most popular since it fits the description for why Sakuya hates human and care so much about the SDM. Or it’s just that author can create more for the SakuXMeiling ship. My head cannon: Sakuya has time manipulation powers but anyone who knows about quantum mechanics and the fact that the past cannot change because all present quantum states relies on a fixed past. So basically Sakuya lives as a multi-dimensional person, living out lives in infinite parallel time lines. It’s why one of her most powerful abilities is to summon time copies of herself by continually taking future Sakuya’s into her own present. She probably was a vampire hunter or a vampire because all possible Sakuya’s exist, because Sakuya is capable of dialing herself into whatever timeline she wishes. She probably agreed to serve remilia because Remilia offered her stability and purpose. Remilia gave her an identity, gave her the Name Sakuya Izayoi, but most of all, Remilia was a constant in all timelines, her sheer force of personality allowed her to transcend mere circumstances. So like an anchor, remilia keeps Sakuya stable and free from the currents of timelines.
There is a guess that sakuya was 'Jack the killer' in 'Perfect Memento in Strict Sense(official touhou charactor manual)' Maybe this pv adopted that idea By the way Liz Triangle's pv is always perfect!! oh yeah

Specially considering her background references jack the ripper, if left unchecked she would've caused much more harm than good (arguably) Unfortunately there is not much more known about Sakuya... She is a mistery... All we know is that she is happy serving Remilia and that she considers that her goal in life.

Honestly I know I'm *super* late but yeah as the others said in the comments theories are running 'rount Sakuya like so much I've never seen this many theories about a character besides some of HI3 and also a recommandation for you to listen to Eurobeat's songs they're incredible off or on camera do as you please (if you do ,do it with the subtitles there are references about the characters themselves and their in-game moves )and if you want to learn more about Touhou 's charactesr I know there's a channel doing it at least an English one if I find it i'll link it .*Anyways* hope my English isn't too bad if so I'm sorry ^^'

Almost all of her spellcards about killing someone or Jack himself. Also she is VERY cold to humans(at least was until Touhou 6 ending). And last but not least why she is so devote to Remilia? Of course Maid should be devote, but it looks like her devotion is too strong. In Touhou 6's stage 6 she fights us again after losing 2 times in stage 5. She is saying, that she will fight you again to at least waste your bomb. Of course Youmu did pretty much the same thing, but Firstly, Youmu only half-human, secondly, it's was job of her family for generations to protect Yuyuko and finally she is a trained warrior, Who lived much longer, than Sakuya. There is no other characters, Who were fighting after 2 loses in a row. So, that means, that Sakuya was pushing up her limits only to help her mistresa a little bit(in some fan works after this she were exhausted or even in coma!) . I think if there wasn't any danmaku she could just sacrifice herself and thats means that her devotion is just unbelievable. Some characters(Yuyuko, Prismriver sisters, Eirin) call her dog of the devil(Remilia calls herself Scarlet Devil). So we don't know much about Sakuya even if she was in 6 games.
