21:38 I don't think that is correct. The Probe Tracking Module was hoisted up into orbit and installed in the Orbital Probe Cannon as planned. But when the cannon fired, it tore itself apart, and the Probe Tracking Module came crashing down to the surface and descended to the core. There were other modules that sank down to the core due to the Nomai accidently using the counter-clockwise spinning tornado but that was prior to the completion of the Orbital Probe Cannon. You can actually see the Probe Tracking Module crashing down in the first moment of each loop, and if I remember correctly, you can find other Nomai hardware lying around near the core, next to the Probe Tracking Module that prove this. I know the devs changed some of the late-game content with one of the recent patches. So apologies if your assessment was based on a previous version of the game. Anyway, great video. Very well put together. :-)
Oh, you are right! The pieces that sunk during the Nomai's time wasn't related to the Tracking module. I just watched the control module's depiction of the cannon falling apart and you can see the tracking module fall too. Thanks for picking up on this!
Late on this, but backing this up as we can find a message between the Nomai crew on the Probe Cannon. Past the fairly normal and humorous discussions about a few of their relationships, there is a mention about the power being put into the probe's shot. The one handling this edges towards using too much power for the station and it is worrying to one of the other members. I think I remember that they did pass it off as they really only needed one shot per loop. Interestingly, I don't think they learned how to access the core of Giant's Deep naturally, or at least it isn't mentioned. That seems to be something Feldspar was a first of. I do still really think this is a great video timeline for the story.
It wasn't other modules that accidentally sank down during OPC construction btw; it was just a single component, a passageway that would have linked a module to the central hub of the OPC. You can find it along the equator of GD resting on coral branches.
the two Nomai holding one another at the wrong signal in Bramble just breaks my heart. Not only were they a profoundly intelligent, adaptable, and curious species, they were also incredibly emotional and expressive, valued relationships, struggled with doubt and grief. very human. almost moreso than the Hearthians one could argue.
I think the tracking module falls into giants deep core when it fires and breaks apart, not before hand. The probe was only to ever fire once, when the ATP is activated and was overpowered to escape the suns gravity and find the eye in far orbit (causing it to break up). The landing in the ‘downward’ spout was just bad luck, or rather bad timing of the sun deciding ti supernova.
Once i got into the heart of the Interloper, I truly had no idea it was going to be what it was. and suddenly so much made sense. but it doesn't make sense the comet still exits all this time later.
Beautifuly written and detailed. I needed to wrap my head around everything I just experienced after having finished it and this did the best job on UA-cam. Thank you
26:39 They wouldn't need to be able to "cancel" a supernova, once they had the information they need they would just not fire the sun station and not cause the supernova in the first place
22:05 i believe from my understanding, they made another tracking module. You can find that in the probe cannon, it is the room that had been destroyed in the probe cannon.
I may not be able to play the game for the first time ever again but at least I can watch videos like this 😊. They didn't fail to inform their kin of their intentions before warping to the eye because of "excitement", it was because they were afraid they would lose the signal and wanted to warp asap, the lore is located in a Nomai Textbook on The Vessel inside the signal room, Thank you for the video you're the best
This video actually helped me understand better how the story of the game went down. While playing myself I thought the supernova starting 22 minutes into each loop was just "this is a game, so the planets are tiny and the sun completes its life cycle in under half an hour, everything simulating the life cycle of a solar system on a small scale" and didn't give it much thought. Then when I watched Joseph Anderson's streams about the game after the ending he brought up a point that it's also game logic, but in a different way: "it just so happened that the sun decided to explode and the nomai statue opened its eyes when the player character was starting their space mission". The explanation in the video actually makes a lot more sense, nomai didn't manage to start the cycles themselves, so the orbital canon and the ash twin core were disabled, then the supernova triggered the loop where noone but the canon remembered it, then at some point the canon fired in the right direction, you can see it when you wake up, while the probe was flying towards the eye you and Gabbro happened to walk by nearby statues, thus entering the loop too, then the game goes down...
Great video bringing everything together! Due to the nature of the game and discovery of narrative in each player's own pace, this helps a lot to process what happened in the game. Keep up the great work
Thanks very much for this thorough recap. Your script, delivery, and game footage all blend very nicely together. It feels like you put as much care into this video as the designers put into the game and its lore. Great job and I hope all is well!
What an in-depth video that collects all the information you find piecemeal and out of order as you explore my favorite game! Thank you for putting it all together! ^________^
Thank you so much for this video. The dlc was too scary for me n my gf to complete in the intended way and this was the next best thing. Love this video!!
Great video! After recently playing through the DLC I thought I misremembered or didn't remember some aspects of the story anymore - but nope. This game is so good, the story stays strong even after over a year.
First up, GREAT video! I wasn't keen on this game for the longest time, but suddenly i just couldn't put it down. I've finished it now (not the dlc) and while i couldn't piece the story together due to my impatience to just play the game, this video alongside the official wiki are bringing out a sharp emotional response. I'm especially sensitive to the longing that some of the nomai expressed to their missing friends and relatives. I have no reason for this, but for some reason it really brought out my emotions. Fuck...
Thank you! No game that I have played feels anything like Outer Wilds... but there are games with similar elements that I can recommend. If you are after open world exploration with a decent amount of story (albeit, with crafting/survival), I'd recommend Subnautica. If you are after an "uncovering the past" game where you need to return to an area multiple times to piece together the events, in a game with a unique visual style and cool soundtrack - I'd recommend Return of the Obra Dinn. I am a bit of a graphics snob, but I still adored this game! If you want a more linear story about unravelling a family's unfortunate history, I'd recommend another Annapurna Interactive game - What Remains of Edith Finch.
Doesn't this imply that around 9,317,000 loops have already occurred at the start of the game? The game definitely implies that the beginning is the first loop, but the aforementioned implication would be that the main character has already lived 390 years of this 22 minute hell!
There is something I don’t quite understand. The Nomai had warping technology prior to warping to this solar system. They actually got there by warping. The warp core on their ship seems to have a black hole and white hole tech built in. So, why was the phenomenon of arriving at the white hole a bit early new to them? If they were already advanced enough in the tech to build it into their ship as the main navigation system, why was the phenomenon new to them?
Okay ive been wondering, if a hearthian and a nomai fought, who would win? Like good old hand-in-hand combat. No jetpacks, no fancy writing staff, no space suits. Who wins?
According to the probe launcher, the probe was launched the ATP reset time ablut 2 million times. That comes out to just avout 400ish years of 22 minute loops. The question I have: before they paired with the statue, did the Hatchling have the same adventure over and over? Or was their journey a little different each time?
Before the (naturally occured) supernova triggered the ATP, the story is completely linear. The Hatchling was a coming of age hearthian who, 22 minutes before the supernova, was taking a nap before going to space for the first time. In that 22 minutes interval who knows what things the Hatchling discovered (not a lot of things given the little time, imo), but one thing is for certain: that they forgot everything once they died at the end of each loop. The loop starts once the original supernova occurs, so the Hatchling technically went to space for the first time for 9 million times
I was actually pretty confused but the storytelling and origins of the Nomai makes a lot more sense now. I thought they succeeded with the sun station causing the supernova but what actually occurred was the significant time passing causing the natural nova which ultimately caused the whole process and continuous loop. Thanks for clearing that up. Well put together video.
I do also think that it’s worth mentioning you are probably in the last habitable solar system in the universe the game takes place Most if not all of the stars you see in the sky are probably out already. That’s the reason that you have to give up your life and the lives of everyone you know, if you don’t it will really be the end of everything.
what an incredible effort, well done and thank you. serious endeavor, almost as intense and confusing as finding the heart of the universe. very well done, indeed. and the editing is also great quality.
I completely failed to connect most of the information about the Nomai timeline. I was fine with figuring out the stuff about the Eye and where to go next, but the stuff about the sun station not causing the super nova and how the Interloper killed them all completely went over my head. I ended the game like, “good, I broke the loop and the sun won’t explode anymore. Back to normal” Wasn’t until I looked it up did the connections finally spark in my head what actually just happened.
10:45 I know this isn’t how quantum mechanics work anyway but wouldn’t being affected by the gravity of the planet or simply standing on it count as observing it? are beings without the capability of sight able to be in proximity to quantum objects while they shift freely? There are trees and wild animals on the moon, aren’t they observing the quantum object?
two things that don't work for me: 1 - how does the sun station send the energy necessary to ash twin if it is destroyed every time the sun turns into a red giant? 2 - why didn't the nomai just leave a beacon on the quantum moon and find the eye through it's six location?
@@MissCherries I've got to say it's crazy that the orbital probe cannon was releasing probes for 390 years equivalent across 22 minute loops, meaning that we were probably getting cooked in the supernova multiple times before we came into contact with the statue
@@edwardharriss1463 : Yes, presumably our character went through 9 million-odd loops prior to the Eye being found -- But we mercifully have no memory of those.

Lol when you start talking about the quantum rock, calling it "the rock" makes me think that a Nomai was just traveling around with Dwayne Johnson lol
The Rock saves the universe
“What can I say except your quantum, it happens when you entangle with me”
