Considering that there's approximately 400 years of unremembered loops, one has to wonder just how many different adventures the Hatchling had. Sure, 22 minutes isn’t nearly enough time to learn EVERYTHING in one go. But maybe there's some wild stories that will never be told...
Imagine an AU where the Hatchling of the Probe Loop decides on a whim to follow the wayward probe as their first adventure, all because it looked neat. This subsequently meant they found the eye of the universe and started the next universe entirely without the need of being trapped in a time loop to begin with.
I still like the believe, no matter how "wrong" it may be, that the experiences in the glade are real and the hatchling draws on the power of the eye to bring their friends to the end of the universe with them, and together they form the new universe
@@casertanickI wouldn't call your idea "wrong", as it's definitely left ambiguous, but I actually like the fact that they are just what the hatchling remembers of them. A big theme presented by The Eye is that it's physical nature is dependant on the individual observer. Can we be sure anything is real when we aren't looking at it? I'm not a sollipsist, but an aguement can be made that to us, people are nothinhlg more than our own perceptions of them, and vice versa. In a sense, our identity is not a solid state, but dependant on who is observing us. At the end, the Hatchling brings his own observations of the people that heavily affected their life, and brings their memory to live vicariously through him to a new universe that he in turn, lives vicariously on through. Does that make a lick of sense?
This is impressive. Outer Wilds is such a complicated game with how it weaves narrative and gameplay, I can only imagine it must have taken lot of effort to make the story sound this linear and articulate. Thanks!
I wish I could forget what I know about the game so I could experience it all again. It's gotta be one of my favorite games ever. And also these are some great videos
I'm sure you have by this point, but play the new dlc! I had doubts they would be able to give me the same feelings the base game did, but I was so, so very wrong. Completely blew me away
I'm very late to the party here but just a small clarification with regards to the probe we see firing at the beginning of the game. It isn't actually the probe that finds the eye. We never see that probe since it comes from the previous loop before the game starts. We connect to the nomai statue because the data sent back from the previous loop is what activates the statue. Again, this is a very small distinction, but worth noting to better understand the way the loop was successful.
Correct, the finding the location of the eye on the previous loop is what activates the ash twin project masks and statues to save the previous loops data. So our Hearthian player character has actually died each and every time the probe has launched before that statue activated.
@@MegaPrams The probe is scheduled to fire in random directions every loop. Finding the eye is linked to activating the statues and saving memories, not to the probe launching mechanism. That way someone's memory isn't caught in 9 billion loops while the probe tries to locate the eye. It only activates the memory aspect once the eye is found. If you watch closely, the probe actually fires in random directions every loop you play through.
This channel is seriously underrated, wish you all the best of luck your content has high production value compared to the amount of videos, good luck going forward.
I think I got another you broke space time ending that I never saw, I was in dark bramble going in the node after the escape pod 3 where you are supposed to go silently to avoid the fish. However, I didn't know about that yet so they rushed to me and I went backwards while they were pushing me inside the node, I went backwards and at this very moment he ate me, I guess that because I went backwards, the fish ate me but I was also present in the space of the other node
Correction: The Eye would've been found the loop *before* not the first conscious loop, anyone at any loop would be connect to the ATP, be it loop #9,319,000 or loop #12 trillion, other than that little blunder, good video.
You can find a nomai text which explains: the statues only active if the project was succesful (and they found the Eye) or it become an uter failure (and I assume never find the Eye) so they can stop their original plan: causing the sun to go supernova. Otherwise imagine if someone has to experience that 9 million, 22 minutes long loop. It would make no sense to suffer throught them, dying again and again, when it is more than enough to realize your success (or failure) when you needed to be!
I don't agree. There was another Hearthian standing near the statue when the Hatchling first enters. If the previous loop was the successful one then I'd have expected it to link with him as soon as he came in range. Instead, I think the probe was still en route when the Hatchling passes him on the way to get the launch codes. Then he wanders off and the probe finds the eye. The statue begins looking for someone to link to and the Hatchling is the next person to come into range.
The probe found the eye shortly after you get your launch codes from Hornfels. The statue then pairs with the closest conscious being, being your character. In fact, if you start a new game, and immediately head to the probe tracking module in the center of Giant's Deep, you'll see that the probe that was just fired at the very beginning was the probe that actually found the eye.
You mentioned the Sun gaining mass and its gravity increasing but I don't think that's correct, that extra mass would have to come from somewhere. Great videos though.
The Eye contains infinite possibilities. It's only when someone observes it that one of those possibilities becomes reality. If no one observes it, it'll just continue to contain all those possibilities, unrealized. It's the same thing with the quantum moon. It exists in all possible locations until you look upon it, forcing it into a single location. If you never looked at the sky, the moon wouldn't have a fixed, singular position. As for how observing something forces it into a single possibility... well I'll leave that to people who understand quantum physics.
There is life though. It's just simple trees though. Maybe the presence of an earlier evolved species at the end accelerates evolution the next time around.
I think they could have done more with other creatures experiencing the loop it would have been cool to have some kind of 2 player when someone plays as Gabro or maybe some kind of antagonist that also remembers and can react to your actions when the rest of the solar system can’t idk just rambling
I really like these videos so thank you but I'm just confused as to why when talking about the characters who is stuck on other planets you kept saying "them" and "they" when referring to just one character, this was very confusing because there is only the one character on each planet so I don't understand why you were talking like that but other than that thank you for your hard work making these videos
Hi Daniel, thanks for watching! About the use of they/them: The Hearthians do not have genders, so they and them are the appropriate terms, even when we are talking about a single Hearthian. Individual Hearthians are always referred to by they/them in the official wiki. They/them can be used for an individual, or a group. In fact, the singular "they" dates back to the 14th century. The Nomai, on the other hand, have genders. This is why I refer to Solanum as "she".
Solanum is referred to as she/her at least twice in the ship's logs. Sixth location: Solanum has a hypothesis that she may not be entirely alive. Solanum's shuttle: A Nomai named Solanum landed her shuttle at the Quantum Moon's south pole and prepared to make the rest of the journey on foot.
This series is great to help parse through the story. Probably the greatest single-player story ever told, your video series is amazing to listen to
