I'm a bit of a re-starter. Not primarly because I want everything perfect, but because I nearly always enjoys the early/mid game more than I enjoy the endgame.
This one best describes me. I speced as much into charisma as possible and had my entire camp wanting to sleep with me before act one was over Gyattitha Rizzington really lives up to her name. But in real life I can barely even talk to people.
You forgot the completionist. The kind of person that makes sure to do every possible side quest and find every secret before moving on to the next act.
Completionists should definitely be on that list. Although some might say they're actually a combination of Explorers and Min-Maxers. I think they're a category of their own, especially the achievement hunters.
The Completionist, the type of player who hordes charitable donations intended to work on memory potions for heavy crit amnesia spells but just holds it in his pouch
Explorer/savescummer for me. I'm having a fuckin' blast restarting encounters over and over just to see what different strategies I can use, what dialogue options I can pick, and what mechanics I can cheese. I've never played a game like this before, but damn if this game hasn't become an obsession for me. Absolutely amazing.
Same here! + romancer. I'd like to have the time to actually replay the game over and over to see different dialogues and stuff, but life is short, this game is huge, and all options are worth checking. I will savescum proudly lol
"...like scrolls and potions, but never actually use them because they're saving them for when they really need them." I feel so called out. Well done. Fun video with some great editing.
I would add the role player. 😊 Completely think through your character. Background, motivation, desires, hobbies and weaknesses. During each dialogue, pause and ask yourself, “What would my character do?”. Take 5 minutes to click on the neutral answer option. Load a save from 10 hours ago if you think that one decision goes against the character’s worldview and you then made a mistake. Oh yes... It's me 😂
What, does not everyone spend two days developing a backstory for their character so that they have a cool half tiefling bard with a growing resentment of humans, and deeply seeded control issues where if they cannot control someone, they have the subconscious but unrelenting desire to kill them?
Me too! I've got the no party limits mod, so the girls all get to serve as pack mules (not my fault they've got higher strength stats than the boys...)
Well sometimes I think about it as reliving a memory and when something doesn't happen how I wanted I'm like. "That's not how it happened". And I reload the save until it goes how I wanted it to.
In my game I like to believe saves are something one of my long-running, overpowered as hell OCs is doing to help the adventure run smoothly without directly getting involved💀
I'm the type that is terrified of making the "wrong choice" so at every choice I google the consequences just in case, despite knowing I save constantly and can just reload if someone leaves the party or the choice starts a hard encounter
I was like this but just with my romancing of Astarion, so I ended up knowing a LOT about romancing Astarion, because everyone else either died or left (except our daughter shadowheart) ended up starting a new run where I romance Astarion AND try to keep friends around lmao
I did a run "with" a friend where I streamed it so they could do all the dating sim parts, and I did the min-maxing in the fights, and we made an unstoppable combo.
@@TF2CrunchyFrogI mean, he may hate clowns, but that particular costume kinda suits him. “Oh, she sounds positively deranged. Let’s tell her everything!”
@TF2CrunchyFrog Astarion CN, my butt! Dude's CE through and through. He is literally willing to sacrifice those 7000 victims of Cazador just to get stronger, how do you call that Neutral!? And if he goes through with the ritual... oof, probably 2nd or 3rd most evil character (after Rafael and Mizora, literal devils) in the game Okay, I can humor you and say he can turn CN through character development if you push him in that direction. If he gives up on the vampire ritual he ascends to CN And Cazador isn't CE, he is LE. Literally making deals with devils, strict tyrant to his spawn, all the jazz. And full vampires are always LE in DnD so that fits as well
I’m definitely an explorer at first 😭 This was my first Baldurs Gate game, and I jumped in with NO knowledge at all aside from it being DnD based! Safe to say, at 400+ hours in, I’m completely enamoured by this game and will continue to play it for a long time.
@jambo1938 I've never played DND or a game like this, but I bought it today and I've already played 10 hours. I also love Fantasy settings like Skyrim, Lord of the Rings, and the Witcher, so the relation had me interested. I'd say watch videos on the game to see if you'd like it, then maybe get it and try it out and if you don't like it you can refund it
i played divinity before, but still feel like a newbie, because I play in a party with 3 veteran friends. ;D for me it's perfect, cuz I dont have to bother with game mechanics n stuff(we play in honor mode), but I can still enjoy the exploration part
10:09 I started this game as an explorer and have slowly gone through most of these types and I’ve gotta say, this game is one of the best things to have ever happened to the world. I can’t express just how impressed I am with this game
As a Veteran player (came from DOS2 and have been playing CRPGs for years) I can assure you we're all impressed. Larian did a great job, and it shows. They've exceeded expectations even in their own genre.
My wife is the explorer and I'm the veteran. I have been gaming for a long time and I played the original bg series. She absolutely loves the game, but has trouble with mechanics and understanding combat. It's an absolute blast to play with. She actually finds a lot of stuff I would never have looked for.
@@Mytheryio That's me and my partner too :) I'm finally learning it now that my partner has told me to use AOE spells to create a choke-hold. Makes it much easier to fight large groups.
It makes me senselessly happy seeing couples game together. My wife is a gamer and it gives me a great sense of joy getting to enjoy games like this with her. She's my Dead By Daylight hero!
I'm dating Astarion again... and I play as bard. When I clicked on this video I knew I was gonna get called out so badly I would probably have to go lie down and quietly cry in my pillow, but instead I'm curled up in a ball on the floor, calling my therapist 😂😭
@@atinity6749Astarion rejected me, and it legitimately took me a minute to get over it. Gale is my paramour now, and he's much nicer but... he isn't Astarion 😂
@@paultapping9510 lol...The first time I played was with my husband and I got Astarion to control because he had Shadowheart or Lae'zel already and I had no idea you could romance people in the game. I was playing an Oath of Justice pally though so he didn't like me too much and I just pretty much didn't romance anyone but kept him with me the entire time because I liked his play style so much and he was attractive. When we got to the ending of his story line though, I knew I had to actually try the romance the next time I played because the end of his quest line makes it obvious there could be more to him than just a whiny power obsessed asshole and I wasn't disappointed. In my opinion he has the best character growth in the game that I've seen thus far, but tbh idk how I could play through again and not have him there.
@@paultapping9510 I still can't understand how can he reject you, lol. I always have him in party, miss a lot of stuff in act 1 and 2, choose dialogue options that I liked, even if he disapproves. But he still didn't reject me. Now I am in act 3, finished with Casador and had a lot of enjoy with his romance scene after it. I didn't even get spoilers with that scene from tiktok 😎
Back here after BG3 did in fact win GOTY. I’ve never had such an amazing gaming experience. Minor spoilers, but when I realized I could essentially kill my way through moonrise before the “big fight” by just closing doors and fighting one room at a time? I felt like a genius! My partner and I have both been playing it any chance we get and we’re sti teaching each other about new things.
I was stuck there for hours a few weeks ago the doors were closed for me but halfway through the first mob the second mob opens the door I had to take down a huge army one of the hardest fights in the game for me I’m gonna have to see if there’s another way to do it on my next playthrough
Hey!!! Sorry but small little fun fact I wanted to add an a bit of a spoiler and a piece of advice! If you hadnt done that (assuming you did it BEFORE freeing the nightsong) and then proceeded to free the nightsong, when you arrive at moonrise towers, you will find Harper corpses littering the place. However, if you kill everyone in the tower AND THEN go to free the nightsong and come back to kill kethric, you dont find a single person dead :> Also you could use the command skill to pull npcs you wanna kill into a silence bubble and then kill them there. As long as its out of sight, you get away Scotch free! :D Best part is if someone walks into the room or area and enters the bubble, they cant call for reinforcements so you can kill them before they run away and cause you to fight a horde.
I am definitely a restarter. Definitely went through a save scumming stage too but the custom difficulty with the single save option fixed that pretty quickly.
I may have gone too far in the other direction. I've played Honour Mode for so long that the mere concept of manually saving my game feels like a chore.
The last game I played that was similar to BG3 was dragon age origins. BG3 Brings me right back to that great feeling of getting lost in a world that isn’t yours.
For the reloaders and cheesers. There's an actual way to get the Apostle of Myrkul scythe and use it. After his death you need to loot his corpse very fast, and get the scythe. The only way to equip the item is dragging your already equipped weapon to the item slot in the inventory. Btw, the weapon have 2d12 + 15 slashing damage, and have 5m of attack range. Enjoy
After the scythe pushed my melee chars, I reloaded and used the disarm maneuver of my Battlemaster Fighter 😅 The fight was much easier then. So no waiting to pick up, simply disarm in fist turn and pick up after😂
Restarter + Explorer here! I'm up to 80 hours, 4 character slots, STILL in act 1 with all of them....and still having the time of my life. I'd never seen the appeal of things like WoW or Skyrim before, even though I liked D&D...while Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines was TECHNICALLY my first CRPG and opened the door for my interest in BG3, I wouldnt have gotten the game at all without my friends telling me about the story and characters. And I'm so glad I listened and I dont regret the time I've spent just wandering exploring the maps, listening to NPC dialogue, roleplaying characters. Genuinely one of the most fun games I've played in my LIFE, and thinking that I've only seen a THIRD of it at MINIMUM has me so excited and happy for more.
That's one of the main reasons you play a charisma class in DnD. The guard asks: Why are you placing these barrels here? You: I am not supposed to tell you, but the wine is for a surprise party to honor the guards. Pretend to be surprised. Well, technically that was not a lie. I mean if I did not respect the guards strength I would not have prepared barrels of explosives and alcohol.
I’m the dating simmer but I think it’s totally awesome. To be honest, I've never had any thoughts about romantic relationships in DND or any other TRPG (I haven't tried CRPG )before, but with Baldur's Gate 3, it's really hard for me to say no to any datings. Every character is so well-crafted. It is amazing to communicate between souls in magic or feel the true desire with devil. I'm so happy to experience these romantic scenes that are unimaginable in reality. Definitely worth it ❤
I'm the kind of restarted who's like "I want to try a new character build," then I end up making the same build anyway because I hate that Astarion is the only ranged and dexterity build companion.
First playthrough of Baldur's Gate near launch was a truly unique experience. Being incapable of googling a solution to most of the problems the game threw at you meant everyone was going to come to there own unique solutions to any situation. I'm playing Divinity OS 2 right now and sometimes I become too afraid of missing stuff that I google where it may be or how to solve certain puzzles that stumped me. If I were to be honest thought picking tactician on my first run probably wasn't the smartest idea.
I think everyone should save scum at least a bit on their first playthrough so they get the outcome they’re most satisfied with the first time through. Then replayability is enhanced by letting the chips fall where they will on the next run and seeing things you may have missed in your quest for perfection. (Related: I’m not going to murder the scared ox at Waukeen’s Rest)
This is how I'm playing currently Savescumming just to not get a bad outcome and be satisfied with the story at the end. My 2nd playtrough will be a 100% no reload run except someone is leaving the crew
I have 323 hrs in the game and I haven't been to Act II yet. Because of my own restarts and multiple attempts at getting a multiplayer game going. I had a very very hard time deciding on what race/class to play for my "perfect" solo run. On the plus side I've seen Act 1 so many times it's given me huge appreciation for the variety and reactivity of the game. You can play Act 1 20 times and see new dialog/cut scenes every time.
I don't understand how my man how many times have you reset lol. My first playthrough I did every side quest I possibly could throughout the game and my final end time was 97 hrs.
@@NamelessstewI've started over 10 playthroughs now and gotten to act 3 in 5 of them, actually completed the game in one, and started a new one only a week ago. I have deleted save files that spanned hours long just so I could redo a whole act because I didn't like the ending or I missed one side quest. For restarters, the joy is in the journey, not the conclusion. I don't want my experience to end, so I don't end it. I just start a new experience and switch back and forth occasionally. For a while I did want to die at the idea of being forced through Act 1 and 2 all over again for a new playthrough, but over time I grew to appreciate it so much for how much replayability it has.
@Namelessstew I also want to point out with thw different choices and alignments, an action can change people opinion, it has long term consequences too so you get lots of different things just by that alone, if youre good try an evil playthru and you will see what i mean. It can open up different quests depending on who you talk to and how. I have lots of plays, active ones are around 7 I think, but I likely have around 20 play thrus and not all are complete. I also mod too so new encounters were added and my tav is assamar in my newest. I kinda hit all the types of players and then some 😅
I get teased by my friends because I have yet to complete Act 1. As a matter of fact, when i received the Steam "Year of 2023" it teased me for not completing Act 1, as well. 😆
Thats like, not possible? Im doing everything, exploring everything, at 82 hours and still in act 2 (though currently at releasing zavlor, so not much else to go) Byt ive heard act 3 is long. How would you do everything in just 90 something hours is beyond me @@Namelessstew
On my first playthrough I failed to save Isobel (talked to her while low on spellslots and stuff, thinking "ok I'll just have some conversations before long resting" lol) and barely made it through the entire fight, used pretty much everything I had hoarded up until that point. It was epic! :)
@@damned0wl I had my first inventory-clearing fight against Balthazar. Starting with putting my stock of explosives and grease bottles on the table in front of him and initiating the fight with a bombing. I finished the fight thanks to his brother enraging and keeping him stuck in a corner and my last character alive shooting arrows at his resurrected healer ghouls before hiding behind a pillar each turn 🤣 I used a lot of potions, antidotes, spell scrolls, grenades/vials and special arrows. I hope Lady Shar was pleased that I stopped him from desecrating her beautiful temple 😎
I'm a savescumming explorer, at the begining here for the dating sim, now here for cheesing the combats (because damn, the narration and lore are so interesting!!!)
Honestly, slightly upset for no "Role players" type, cause this game is extremely easy to get into and _feel_ the world around you. Even though certain decisiona were bad for the team my mind often went "Is this what my [Tav] would do?"
Do you know any good RP content I can watch on youtube for the game? I'd love to see it. I agree it's a thing in tabletop, but I hadn't seen actual RPers in this game yet :(
@@ProxyGateTactician I think it's just people getting really into their characters. I haven't seen many people making BG3 videos without dicking around, so I get what you mean.
My friend started of as a RP player, got so upset when he broke his oath and restarted the run. He then played like what in his mind was the paladin way. Got the evolve tadpole part and failed every check and evolved. Didn't like the markings in his face, downloaded a mod to remove them. Got lost in modding, found builds on youtube, went from paladin to machinegun eldritch blaster, infinate ethels hair, complained about the game being too ez. sigh.
I fell quickly into 'I need to romance Gale' but also certain choices he didn't approve of and I just had to be like, shut up Gale, it's what my character would do.
Save-scumming is the way to go for anyone out there that truly wants to enjoy the game. You are not playing a Larian RPG to just "go with the flow of failures". There are already tons of "Souls games" out there for that kind of mindset.
It's weird because being a Save Scummer and an Explorer are kinda like opposites. So I sometimes have to fight the urge to just let things play out instead of trying to get the optimum dice rolls. It's tough 😂
I'm usually a roleplayer and an explorer, but on the first run... I will be a save summer because I just want to get a perfect run. And then see what happens in all the failure conditions and combinations of them.
they also have some crossover since at least certain types of save scummers just want to explore the options, there's plenty of responses in the game that are blatantly a bad idea, but too entertaining to resist, I don't think a run should turn from good path if you just wanna see if you'll actually punt a squirrel
I restarted as soon as i heard he ate magical items, avoided him like the plague after that. Same with the vampire i was like nope no bites in my sleep. But the hardest to avoid is probably either the one that you meet in the first few min of the tutorial or shadowheart. However now knowing i get enchanted everywhere that are useless ill let gale in my next run. My first play thru only had wyll and karlach with a wither fill in. oddly i still dont know what sould coins do for karlach as i was in a good guy play thru and i didnt think a good guy be doing that to someones heart that might explode.@@darknoob89 PS i romanced karlach and went with her to hell. SO NO PROXY not everyone.
Oh my God I am almost a perfect mix of this entire list. I spent hours in the character creator getting my guy just right. I've been save scuming since choose your own adventure books came out back in the 90s. Needless to say I'm an old school expert in this kind of stuff and I like my exploration.
went from the explorer (i have barely played video games before) to dating sim and occasionally cheeser ... I'm on run 10 though and have so much i still wanna do! i only just found some new (small) areas and that's so great about this game.
I'm a DnD veteran. I was really hyped to play a Cleric of Sune, only to be heartbroken that she's not available, and no modders have added her either. So I tried a warlock, and realized that since my tables almost always long rest between every encounter, I never realized just how good a warlock is when played as intended. I already liked warlock, but now I love it. I've already played warlock twice in BG3 now. It's now tied with Cleric for my favorite class.
I find it every time I roll a charisma based character, I cannot Help but to grab at least 2 Levels of Warlock. That Eldridge blast just can't be beat when it comes to Dealing damage as a charisma character. However this play through I Am currently doing the adjuration wizard Tank one level of Fighter 1 level of warlock all the rest into wizard. And I gotta say it's living up to it reputation. My character has only died thanks to a long string of non-stop debus being slammed on to him to a point where I couldn't control him anymore Afterwards he was quite literally dogpiled by wolves In the gift Yankee crash
I'm a completionist. I know I've missed some stuff, but I try to comb over everything I can to experience as much as possible before moving on to the next chapter. It's honestly a little stressful, because I'm worried about missing something important. I know I'll want to do at least one more playthough after, though, so I'm trying to tell myself it would be fine to experience different things the second time.
Dude same. Typically with games, I tend to only play them once through because (and this is the same with like movies and shows too) it becomes a little boring going through it again when I already know what the story is and what’s going to happen. That leads me to try to do EVERY single thing I can the first time so I can experience everything once and call it a day. The trouble with this game - and it’s something that might actually make me interested in playing a second time - is that there’s just SO MUCH stuff to do and it affects the game DRASTICALLY. So who knows…
I started my first playthrough and scrapped it when I hit act 3 because I learned that I basically abandoned/killed most of the companions. I never met Astarion or Karlach or Wyll in Act 1 and Halsin died while I was clearing the goblin camp. I managed to stick with it for all of Act 2 and part of Act 3. Decided to look at some BG3 content and realized how much I have actually missed. I should have ignored this stuff. I used to be obsessed with NVs and choice-based RPGs and this game has scratched an insane itch that I have had for years.
@@thegreatestfallout1794 whoops 😅 I’m still on my first playthrough and it took me a long time to find wyll and karlach as well. Unfortunately I got locked out of karlach’s romance which sucks v.v I actually think the romance in this game is probably the worst aspect of it though to be fair.
@@Zlittlepenguinplaying it already three times, one time solo one with a friend and one game with 4 people total. Its alot of fun having different Chars going different directions and also using some mods for New character like a werewolf and stuff.

i struggled in the first few days in playing bg3 since i couldnt easily process that there are so many possible things that i can do in the game and i got overwhelmed, my brother thought i was just merely stupid for being so bad at the start but when i got the hang of it i made another character and started talking to my brother about some of the side quests he may have missed or got a better outcome than him lmao, its overwhelming in the start but im glad i got the hang of it eventually
Same! 😂 I’m new to gaming and my brother is a veteran. When I told him I felt I was playing the game wrong, he told me that as long as I was having fun, I was playing it right😅
I got overwhelmed so i just went "fuck it, barbarian it is" and it worked, but at the end of act2 I learned most of the things and how much i missed and had to do start over :D I'm on my second character (good dark urge) and probably I will finally finish the game. After that? Karlach run it is, cuz i want to save mommy minthara while I really cannot kill mommy Karlach. I CAN NOT DO THAT so i have to play as her i guess...
@@patrykrys3153 Also just started over after learning the mechanics. Still not done with act 1. I just made some horrible mistakes that f-ed up the play through too much😅
I feel like the best way to play a game like this for beginners (or what I’m doing at least) is to just focus on quests. That way, you won’t be overwhelmed right away and you just have one objective. Then, once you’ve played for a few hours, any time you have a question of “hey I wonder if I can do this thing” or “I wonder what’s over in this area” then go ahead and give it a try and see what works and what secrets you can discover. Don’t get too caught up in learning the deep mechanics of combat or how to best min/max your character. Leave that to the UA-camrs lol.
I am new to BG3 but for some unknown reason, I, an experienced hoarder who used cheese and cabbage over healing potions in Skyrim until I reached max level, use every scroll, arrow and other finite consumables I can find. Baldur's Gate 3 just hits different. I feel that every fight is as important to the plot and gameplay as if it was the final bossfight. When I needed to deal with goblins at the shattered sanctum I even used my fireball scroll just to take out 3 goblins in 1 hit. Normally, I would've never used it on an enemy with less than 150 hp but I used it on goblins with 10 times less than that! This game is something else, I'm telling you
I’m not usually a cheeser, but I absolutely DOMINATED the Gortash fight by way of cheesing. I didn’t even use barrels or any of the other unorthodox methods you mentioned, I literally just waited outside the door with my hastened up Jaheria and my summoned Fire Mymirdons and absolutely beat his ass the moment he walked out. Absolute classic, even got a rare achievement for it!
Definitely the explorer. I’ve never played a game like this and I am just blown away by the depth and meaning behind every choice you make! Coming over from Monster Hunter, it’s nice to have npc’s that actually matter! 😂 Also, that save scumming strat seems… interesting 👀👀
Restarter and Cheeser proud! Restarting to make OP early game builds and cheese the grove story as much as possible has given me more playtime than most games (I haven’t even sniffed act 3 yet)
the roleplayer!! i choose a character usually from a fantasy /dystopian book and roleplay them. i’m currently doing katniss everdeen and OMG it’s amazing, i take like 20 minutes for some choices to consider “what would katniss actually do?” - i am planning one playthrough with exactly me - one playthrough with rin runin from the poppy war series as a monk etc! the possibilities never end
Definitely an Explorer. Never liked turn based games or table tops bc it was always too confusing as a kid and I stuck with that notion without trying it out again until now (I’m 21). I love to read and write especially fantasy and Skyrim is probably one of my all time favorite games. I only found this game because ppl were talking about it as a dating sim on TikTok and as a sucker for romance I wanted to try it out too and figure out the mechanics as I went. Turned out to be the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Absolutely fell in love with this game and it’s lore and the characters. The freedom and diversity of choices that actually matter and how every play through is completely unique to everyone was like a wet dream for someone who played Skyrim and the sims religiously as a child. Definitely deserved game of the year I hope more people take a chance on BG3 bc unless you literally just don’t read it’s such a great game overall.
I am slightly concerned with how accurate the “Explorer” tag is for me. Just picked up the game recently (my first CRPG) and I am still in Act 1 having spent hours turning over the map, finding everything there is to be found, encumbering all my companions, and losing fights many times over. Hands down the best new game I’ve played in a solid decade.
did my first playthrough as an explorer-completionist and guess what. 2nd, 3rd and 4th playthrough and I am still finding new, previously missed things.
I’m an explorer because I was never able to play dnd with anyone so when I heard of baldurs gate I thought I would give it a try and now I’m obsessed with it!!
im a restarter but really the only reason i have multiple playthroughs (currently 3 i actively play and im near the end in one of them) is because i just love the fact that you can play it in so many different ways. both technically and roleplay wise
I'm glad to say that I am a veteran. My years of playing DND prepared me well for this game, and I'm pleased to say that my first playthrough as a Tiefling Fiend Warlock went great. Currently doing a second playthrough as a Dragonborn Way Of The Four Elements Monk (so happy the subclass got buffed in BG3 compared with its 5e counterpart). Can't believe how much new stuff I'm discovering on my second time, this game is simply fantastic!
might as well just play any caster if you're using way of the 4 elements. way of open hand gets upgraded flurry of blows. i'm playing as golden dragonborn tavern brawler monk using way of the open hand, with first level in fighter for the armor/shield proficiency and fighting style (defense), and 3 levels in rogue thief for that extra bonus action for 2 flurry of blows per turn. so 1 fighter/8 monk/3 rogue.
This video is hilarious and really really accurate, but I find myself in a weird position since what I believe is my category is missing. The roleplayers or as I like to call them "fashionistas" that would rather use an uncommon plate armor than let's say the Helldusk armor set just because their paladin would never wear an armor with that aesthetic. I think they're the opposite than the min-maxers and they'd love if the game added a "change appearance" feature to items even though it's completely inappropriate in a game like this
I don't really care about my looks as long as I look serious enough to be taken seriously. My Death knight can wear whatever armor as long as I can look at him and say "yeah that's a badass death knight" So I'll usually just take the higher stat one
they already have a mod for that and i use it myself. originally it was to change out the look of that adamantine splint armor because it sadly has a visual bug at the area above the boots and it really bothered me. hopefully they fix that. as for changing the appearance of armor and calling it inappropriate, i dont see how you could say that. armor historically isnt some pair of shoes at payless that you just try on and then buy if it works for you. its always been something VERY specially designed and tailored for each inidividual. its part of the reason you mostly only ever saw nobles rock plate armor as its partly very expensive for that very reason. and then afterwards if they have the money for it, will customize its appearance and style to suit their fashion, taste, or to represent their family/house. to say that a devotion paladin of tyr would just roll with rocking some devil-looking plate without modifying and changing it up themeselves is what would truly be completely innappropriate. Ultimately, regardless of whatever side of this arguement a persons on, its a video game. games are supposed to be fun. and these characters are what youre going to be staring at 99% of your experience in it. if changing their aesthetics to suit your visual preferance positively impacts your experience, then there's nothing wrong here. when i transmog swaped out my admantine splint armor look for just simple plate armor for my paladin, i was perfectly happy with that as it looks far better and more appropriate for her theme i want to go with on her than that buggy piece with floating boots...
I don't understand how anyone could NOT treat bg3 as dating sim Guys. It's a joke. Relax. Ofc bg3 is a lot more than dating sim. I've spent 350hrs here, I know about all this things. I just think it's funny that some fantasy rts game being a better dating sim than half of "real" dating sims.
well at the beginning the interactions and romance encounters were pretty much but till end of act 2 nothing happend anymore sadly. So the dating things are not so intense as I hoped to be.
i mean...there is a lot of plot and story to be had between scenes, so you'll be a lot more disappointed if all you wanted was smut. If you want action early, just focus on astarion. If you want something more, enjoy the adventure and the slow burn of some of the other characters. A dating sim is just shallow teenage story with a bunch of guys and the romance is the game and plot, this feels better to me, particularly since you can just avoid romance altogether if you like. I feel like the romance is a big part of the story and so I indulge in it (after all, it's more content) but it don't need to be a dating sim to have fun XD
I love how a lot of the fight encounters are so creative and aren't just your health vs their health. Having to hold off enemies for Halsim, or jump into that portal before Baldurs Gate, those type encounters are so fun and can be tricky.
@@orbitronsorbitrons anyone can be a cleric. a cleric with blood of lathander absolutely does not trivialize every act 2 fight. enemies don't group up enough to use sunbeam, and some fights have you so outnumbered that one cleric alone can't keep up with the healing.
The fight to protect Halsin would have been great if I weren’t playing a necromancer and so had just about every bloody Harper in the Moonlight Inn wander into the darkness to die saying ‘shoo!’ To the ghouls I’d raised for the fight
I grew up playing Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, so I'd consider myself between a Veteran and Explorer. There was still a lot of things I missed in my first playthrough and I'm still in awe at the sheer scale of this game. For a weird but true comparison, this really feels like you're playing all three Mass Effect games in a row, easily one of the best games I've ever played.
I tried to, but Lae'zel and Astarion told me to grow a backbone and not try to fix all the world's problems without even a benefit to my own self or my companions. And y'know what, I think they're right, so I now make more pragmatic choices. Like, I'll still help you but I'll ask to get paid at least.
I am a Veteran because I played Pillars of Eternity 2 (my first CRPG) and have a lot of experience with both D&D and ‘class-based’ RPGs in general. I definitely agree with your closing statement about BG3 bringing a spotlight to the genre. It’s fantastic.
A modder + veteran I came from playing DnD and Divinity Original Sins 2 and jumped right away when this game was announced, I'm so happy to play this game and mod it for spicy campaigns
I actually approve the "cheeser" way. As a player used to loot/steal everything in sight, the game actually grants you several ways to cleverly get the items you want without getting caught, even in the middle of a dense crowd. This is actually very satisfying.
I'm 100% a veteran and BG 3 is a huge tear of joy braker for me. The old characters from loved BG2 game and all the stuff they do and allow in the game, such a huge project.
I'm part veteran part explorer. Played D&D for many years but it's been nearly a decade since my last tabletop game. In game, I explore every nook and cranny and test things to see what can or can't be done. Videos about BG3 are literally the first time I ever heard of the term "CRPG."
Initially explorer, until I became veteran at the end of my 1st playthrough ;P then played 2 more times from beginning till the end (durge, guy saving everyone) and currently on my fourth playthrough with a half-orc too stupid to talk and choosing silence, attack or the shortest phrases in every dialogue :D This new playing style still reveals new things in this game, it's amazing
I'm a combination of the veteran reloader. I can't help it, every time i encounter something new I think "oh how would wyll interact with this?" and make an entire new run just to see how wyll would interact with it. on the bright side i have evil urge, good gale, good lae'zel, and evil astarian completed lol
Veteran with a touch of Explorer and Min-Maxer here. In other words, I explore every nook and cranny, because my experience in these games has taught me that the best items for the absolutely gamebreaking builds are often hidden far away from the main story's path.
Bg3 is my first crpg and I am soo happy to have started playing this game . I have spent soo many hours learning the mechanism of the as I was not familiar with strategy based combat and still haven't gone to the actual boldars gate . But loving it soo far
Watching this was fun. I fall under the last category. I've been so delighted to see all the new people being introduced to the series since the release of bg3.
@@ezzatisaid Gatekeepers are insecure lonely people who will only have their ego for company in the end. Pity them, for they have to live with that personality. The rest of us can ignore them.
I am type 11. The non-player. I can't afford the time sink a real BG3 play is, but I do enjoy watching BG3 UA-cam vids because there is brilliant stuff out there that takes only 5 minutes and gives almost as much joy as playing the real thing.
It 100% is a massive time commitment, but it’s very fun fs, it took me 2 1/2 months to finish it bc of work and school but I don’t regret it, even if I only could do one 5 hr session a week on a day I didn’t have work or school. Always gave me something to look forward to
Omg, you described Min-Maxing and Restarter perfectly! I'm just like that! In Min-Maxing part, the only spreadsheet I got are a checklist of all the quests, sub-quests, items, gear, inspirations, and traders. In the Restarters part, I've only ever restarted in BG3 (don't see how you can restart any other game except for GTA 5) also that Karlach part was on target XD Though I broken the restarting cycle! (I'll restart it after I finish the game though 🤣) (And ooooo I hate you for that invisibility part)
I'm a mix between the veteran and restarter. My main playthrough is still ongoing with my friend but we can only play together on weekends so I start quite a few playthroughs to continue enjoying the game on my own time without passing where I am in my main playthrough. Once I finish the game, I'm planning to add modding into the mix. Race and subclass mods are going to be so great for this game.
I appreciate your description of save scummers because I've had people get mad at me for reloading when I accidentally lose a companion (as in permanently, not like they die in combat and need a revivify). I dont consider that scummy. Each companion plays a big part in the story.
I would also say that reloading during a combat encounter you know you are going to lose in the long run isn't scumming either. I have a lot of free time, but even I don't have the time to spend 20 minutes losing a combat encounter.
@@paultapping9510 that's a good point. Lots of people are just playing games in the limited free time they have. If you get into a combat situation you know you can't win, it becomes wasteful and its not enjoyable. I had someone get after me for reloading when all 3 companions died in fire and I didn't have revivify scrolls and the last character left was low on health. There's an unhealthy obsession with the concept of "save scumming" 😮💨
All I will say is that I lost massive amounts of time once I learned about Volo’s surgery…. Then lost another huge chunk of time when I learned what happens if you go first at the crèche. I spent more total time on one play through than most people spend on 3.
I am mostly an explorer. I am 60 years old and usually play stuff like Sims 4. I bought BG3 after watching MadMorph play it. I swore it was not my type of game but became so invested in the story that I had to have a go (even bought a new computer cos mine was ancient). I have over 350 hours under my belt (I have had it for a month!), I have restarted about 7 times and still don't fully understand the mechanics but am slowly getting better at the fights. My main game is in Act 3 where I have come to an impasse as regards the decision to be made on fighting the Brain so started a new game. I play as a Druid, sometimes an Outlander but I prefer Urchin. I tried playing as a Wizard to get new dialogue and interactions but missed my Thorn carpet too much. The game is full of bugs and I hate... absolutely hate the dice throwing but, and I cannot over emphisise this enough, I love the game. The Raphael fight was a totally joyous thing to behold (even though it took 3 or 4 attempts). I'm afraid it has taken over my life, all my other games seem so blah now. So, I have finished eating my dinner now and am going back to Faerun, it is 5 o'clock and I only have 6 hours to play before I have to go to bed! Happy gaming everyone xxx
Awesome to hear! It’s really an amazing game. Cool to see you’re enjoying it. My first play through was as Druid I’d recommend bard a lot they have the most interesting dialogue options, and will easily talk their way through annoying dice rolls.
@@ProxyGateTactician How do they fight though? I tried playing as a cleric but was so underwhelming that I kept dying in the Ancient Ruins! My first attempt was as a Rogue and died on the ship hahahaha. I find the Druid to be a good all-rounder.xxx
@@sharonbunn2363 if you go a swords bard they’re really good at using crossbows. Which sounds weird but it works. Other bard types are great support (you get an extra short rest even)
A big problem is that they didn't make the difficulty scalable enough to cater to both min maxers and roleplayers who are good at the game. So if you play a roleplay build on tactician it makes the game a lot longer and more linear as you're looking for every encounter that can give that precious xp
@@artenderer I've finished the game now so I have Meta game knowledge so it's too easy. But unlike wrath of the righteous you can't toggle individual options to make the game challenging to you, with the difference between tactician and balanced being vast. My suggestion to them was to have a separate option with reduced rewards for sleeping as you can sleep per fight once you know which quests are timed and they actively reward that with how they gated the plot behind resting
Veteran here. BG1 and BG2 holds nothing but amazing memories for me as a kid. Adcentures in the forgotten realms along the Sword Coast were some of my only forms of escape from a hellish reality.
Im more of a roleplayer...making a character that fits into a specific role or style and playing that role through dialogue and actions. First run im playing a paladin, i like how I need to play within the oath. Definitely will do another run with something wildly different next.
I have such a savescumming issue, it’s not in combat so much (unless I’m almost dead and my character hitting the shot would end the battle) but I keep having to remind myself that I don’t need to pass every check and it’s okay to fail sometimes 😭😭
Glad to hear! I just wish it was easier to find a bunch of myths all the time lol. I'll do some more eventually, but hard to find a list of solid ones for now
11:00 I did the shar gauntlet without any cheats, unless you count cheaters folly from attacking your non-self counterpart. but it felt satisfying completing those tests. only time i looked at a guide was when I had accidentally dropped an orb that was needed to complete the mission. turns out I had left it on the stairs of the room where you attack yourself.
I’m both the cheeser and the min-maxer. I will never stop. I live in fear of the day I get invited to do multiplayer and I don’t get to be a control freak over my own save file.
I laughed on the no read part as I'm often in that category at first. Then wonder what did I do wrong and over time get into the Veteran / Min-Maxer. Especially the first boss encounter during the tutorial I didn't read anything at all only to realize that guy was 1-shotting all my characters. Only difference is that after 2 character were wiped out, I decided to make a run for the transponder thinking this is ridiculous (vaguely remembering that the transponder was the actual goal). I also took 30 minutes trying to figure out how to free a certain character out of a pod because I didn't read anything at all and didn't want to leave them there thinking if I go any further they'd be stuck there forever with no way back to that area...
Pure restarter here lol. My goal is to progress each class individually to enjoy each major plot point every possible way. It lets me really chew the scenery and appreciate the incredible craftsmanship while avoiding distant spoilers.
I thought i`m only one have that kind of autism. I created all subclasses characters with different races, genders and different equipment. Still in Act 1.
Looking at the comment section, I'm surprised at how few veterans there are! I felt so called out. I went into BG3 with a plan and stuck to it. Yes, my inventory is full of scrolls and potions for when I need them, and I hate looking up solutions for puzzles so I do tend to get stuck on them longer than I think most people would tolerate!
As a restarter, not only do I feel called out, but I find myself strangely intrigued by the concept of an all invisible all the time run.
oh no it was a joke!!
will add that dark urge gets a free cloak mid act 1 that grants a 2 turn invis on kill, per turn.

Immediately went "ah, guess I'll try that" as soon as he said it.
Don't worry, I'll get around to finishing act one... someday.
I'm a bit of a re-starter. Not primarly because I want everything perfect, but because I nearly always enjoys the early/mid game more than I enjoy the endgame.
The "everybody wants to sleep with me, truly a fantasy universe 10/10" review is gold

This one best describes me. I speced as much into charisma as possible and had my entire camp wanting to sleep with me before act one was over Gyattitha Rizzington really lives up to her name. But in real life I can barely even talk to people.
Proxy has also made this joke, saying he woke up to women fighting over him so its clearly a fantasy world.

Oh yes... It's me 😂

However, if you kill everyone in the tower AND THEN go to free the nightsong and come back to kill kethric, you dont find a single person dead :>
Also you could use the command skill to pull npcs you wanna kill into a silence bubble and then kill them there. As long as its out of sight, you get away Scotch free! :D Best part is if someone walks into the room or area and enters the bubble, they cant call for reinforcements so you can kill them before they run away and cause you to fight a horde.

For the reloaders and cheesers. There's an actual way to get the Apostle of Myrkul scythe and use it. After his death you need to loot his corpse very fast, and get the scythe.
On my first playthrough I failed to save Isobel (talked to her while low on spellslots and stuff, thinking "ok I'll just have some conversations before long resting" lol) and barely made it through the entire fight, used pretty much everything I had hoarded up until that point. It was epic! :)

As a min-maxing save scummer, this is so fucking accurate 🤣

I got overwhelmed too at the start, and tbh I still feel overwhelmed sometimes. Still a lot of fun tbh
This game is something else, I'm telling you
Telling Wyll you don't want to dance hurts him more than being dragged through all the hells

Just picked up the game recently (my first CRPG) and I am still in Act 1 having spent hours turning over the map, finding everything there is to be found, encumbering all my companions, and losing fights many times over. I'm glad to say that I am a veteran. My years of playing DND prepared me well for this game, and I'm pleased to say that my first playthrough as a Tiefling Fiend Warlock went great. Can't believe how much new stuff I'm discovering on my second time, this game is simply fantastic!
Same, but I get to have the fun of trying to take my 3.5 knowledge of D&D and bring it not just to 5E but also into the logic of a video game.
might as well just play any caster if you're using way of the 4 elements. way of open hand gets upgraded flurry of blows. i'm playing as golden dragonborn tavern brawler monk using way of the open hand, with first level in fighter for the armor/shield proficiency and fighting style (defense), and 3 levels in rogue thief for that extra bonus action for 2 flurry of blows per turn. so 1 fighter/8 monk/3 rogue.

I think they're the opposite than the min-maxers and they'd love if the game added a "change appearance" feature to items even though it's completely inappropriate in a game like this
Mods!! There's one in particular the allows you to edit the stats of the armorand has over 500 pieces.
@@disneybunny45 yeah i play on ps5… rip
I don't really care about my looks as long as I look serious enough to be taken seriously. My Death knight can wear whatever armor as long as I can look at him and say "yeah that's a badass death knight"
So I'll usually just take the higher stat one
they already have a mod for that and i use it myself. originally it was to change out the look of that adamantine splint armor because it sadly has a visual bug at the area above the boots and it really bothered me. hopefully they fix that. as for changing the appearance of armor and calling it inappropriate, i dont see how you could say that. armor historically isnt some pair of shoes at payless that you just try on and then buy if it works for you. its always been something VERY specially designed and tailored for each inidividual. its part of the reason you mostly only ever saw nobles rock plate armor as its partly very expensive for that very reason. and then afterwards if they have the money for it, will customize its appearance and style to suit their fashion, taste, or to represent their family/house. to say that a devotion paladin of tyr would just roll with rocking some devil-looking plate without modifying and changing it up themeselves is what would truly be completely innappropriate.
I don't understand how anyone could NOT treat bg3 as dating sim
Guys. It's a joke. Relax. Ofc bg3 is a lot more than dating sim. I've spent 350hrs here, I know about all this things. I just think it's funny that some fantasy rts game being a better dating sim than half of "real" dating sims.
Act 3, haven’t romanced anyone and never intend to.
Your pfp explains your warped perspective lol
well at the beginning the interactions and romance encounters were pretty much but till end of act 2 nothing happend anymore sadly. So the dating things are not so intense as I hoped to be.
It's really simple, really. We play it as an RPG, not an adult RPG.
i mean...there is a lot of plot and story to be had between scenes, so you'll be a lot more disappointed if all you wanted was smut.

For certain rare items, dialog checks are definitely just speed bumps 😂
Veteran with a touch of Explorer and Min-Maxer here. In other words, I explore every nook and cranny, because my experience in these games has taught me that the best items for the absolutely gamebreaking builds are often hidden far away from the main story's path.

In the Restarters part, I've only ever restarted in BG3 (don't see how you can restart any other game except for GTA 5) also that Karlach part was on target XD
Though I broken the restarting cycle! (I'll restart it after I finish the game though 🤣)
(And ooooo I hate you for that invisibility part)
Other bard types are great support (you get an extra short rest even)
@@ProxyGateTactician Thank you xxx
A big problem is that they didn't make the difficulty scalable enough to cater to both min maxers and roleplayers who are good at the game. So if you play a roleplay build on tactician it makes the game a lot longer and more linear as you're looking for every encounter that can give that precious xp
Soooo, why don't you just decrease difficulty to balance?
@@artenderer I've finished the game now so I have Meta game knowledge so it's too easy. But unlike wrath of the righteous you can't toggle individual options to make the game challenging to you, with the difference between tactician and balanced being vast. My suggestion to them was to have a separate option with reduced rewards for sleeping as you can sleep per fight once you know which quests are timed and they actively reward that with how they gated the plot behind resting
Great video, well done both true and very funny. Fall into the Vet and Date Sim.
Wow nice to know I’m 4 types at once lol. Cheeser, save scummer (occasionally), explorer and restarter 😂
So early daymn, love you proxy, amazing content, I especially like the myth busting series!
Glad to hear! I just wish it was easier to find a bunch of myths all the time lol. I'll do some more eventually, but hard to find a list of solid ones for now
Everyone needs to try being a weirdo at one playthrough. Just do random things and see if it works
Lovely video. I'd have to admit that almost every category described me in some way or another :'D
That's why I have multiple playthroughs!
Right! I've put played through act 1 like 30 times now lmao
My type of player is simping for sexy vampire
lmaoo then ur on the list for sure
@@ProxyGateTactician indeed! I also created 6 Tavs, oh God I feel so called out!
Still in Act 1.
me playing the game twice the exact same way to relive original dopamine
Looking at the comment section, I'm surprised at how few veterans there are! I felt so called out. I went into BG3 with a plan and stuck to it. Yes, my inventory is full of scrolls and potions for when I need them, and I hate looking up solutions for puzzles so I do tend to get stuck on them longer than I think most people would tolerate!
