  • CHAOSEUM is a metal band from Switzerland that is making waves on UA-cam among the metal community. Specifically their latest music video for "Smile Again" has been getting a lot of traction with over 4M views on UA-cam. This song is both praised and criticised for sounding very much like the metal giants KORN! So is CHAOSEUM just a KORN RIPOFF or in fact a beginning of a Nu Metal revival which according to fans of "Smile Again" is sorely needed!

Quick speech. In the interviews with the lead singer ” ck Smile ” he Said that they are inspired by Korn and other early 2000s bands and he wants to bring the nu metal sound back.

First time I heard “Smile Again”, I said “Korn has a new song?” But when I watched the video I had the same reaction as many, Somebody Someone rip off. Then I heard Chaoseums other songs and instantly loved it. “Hell has no way out”, “Into my split” are amazing songs. The whole album is great. I became an instant fan. 🤘🏼

People kept spamming this song on a big Facebook nu Metal group and honestly I got sick of hearing about it, and hadn't listened until watching this. They seem alright, I don't hate them, anything that keeps nu Metal alive is OK in my book.

Dude I feel the same way, I felt it was hyped up then finally decided to give them a listen they're actually pretty decent and added their album to my daily playlist.
Tons of dope riffs and tons of Korn influence, but to me their not rip offs they kinda pull it off in their own way.
Also like the dude said in the video, Korn won't be around forever so we need someone to carry the torch, maybe it's these guys...who knows.

I have never heard of this band until this video. Now, I'm going to have to check them out. Honestly, I feel like Nu Metal is LONG overdue for a revival. Most genres or subgenres of music have, why not Nu Metal? This proves that Nu Metal has been more influential than most people thought and I think that's a good thing.

In terms of revival I gave my point of view already... I am on the fence about it because KORN is still on my playlist whenever I need it and I don't know if there's anything that we didn't already hear that can be done within this sub genre. But Nu metal's influence has really been huge and it's been very evident for the past couple of years. It's coming back harder and harder. If the album Limp Bizkit will hopefully release will be good I think it will tip the scales completely. I mean Durst has been making waves big time... so Nu metal is on the tips of many people's tongues. It's interesting really!

Have you heard Tetrarch? Also a lot of different but very clear Nu Metall inspiration.
I discovered those two bands around the same time through UA-cam suggestions.
I more or less bought their albums straight away.
Chaoseum feels like a new version of KoRn, but a lot of their other songs are very much their own. Especially their older songs are nothing like KoRn.
Tetrarch is a good mix of everything Nu Metal and I really like them a lot. They are also very young, so I hope they'll get a bright future and keep giving us awesome music.

I’ve heard of Chaoseum and listened to their song. They seem interesting, but I hope to see these guys have their own style. Not saying they should get rid of the KoRn sound overall; I think the instrumentals are top notch and stand out. The vocal delivery, though, can get people to think they’re nothing more than a KoRn clone, even the instrumentals can, at time, can be heard as something of a modern KoRn B - side. I don’t know what these guys will do next, but I wish them the best. I think if they keep the sound they’re doing now while blending in a new style that is particularly their own, they might stick around. But if they tend to sound a little too on the KoRn rim without changing anything, they might, somewhat, fall into the route of Flymore.

Glad I saw this video before the music video, just checked the music video and I'm seeing more than just KoRn, can't pinpoint it but maybe Orgy, Mushroomhead, Mudvayen stuff like that maybe even a little Spineshank etc. ... but yeah its a lot of KoRn and I have a headache which might be affecting my memory and recall.
That said the singer looks like the lead singers of Coal Chamber and Hed PE (Planet Earth) smashed together.
Edit/PS: Didn't hate it. (but I'm assuming the next song will make or break them, ie.if they'll be able to keep around the people that liked Smile Again or not.)

Speaking of the nu metal revival, not sure if you're really in the loop of things but have you heard:
    Tallah
    Flash back
    Darknet
A lot of people would add vein to this list because they have a turntablist but they're still very much a hardcore band with some nu metal elements.

    • @saysthemanbehindthemask
      @saysthemanbehindthemask  2 роки тому +2

Nah dude… those don’t qualify as a revival. I am aware of Tallah the other 2 don’t even come up if you search on UA-cam… which means they are very much underground. Even Tallah being the biggest out of 3 did not break 1M views on their most popular video. When it comes to reviving a genre there needs to be demand. Chaoseum is probably over 5M views on their 2 videos of the same song posted. If you are going to include every underground band and deem that a revival that would mean Nu metal never really went away… because there’s plenty of underground Nu metal bands active to this day. This band tells a totally different story too… the amount of views and likes it doesn’t just say we want a new kind of Nu metal sound like Tallah for example does… people who liked this video by Chaoseum seem to be hungry for that specific middle of the road Korn sound of late 90’s… it’s a totally different discussion. So I’d say I am in the loop even though I do not seek out Nu metal specifically as i’ve had enough back in the day. You might want to check INVERTOR they are from Russia… similar to Tallah but better in my opinion as it’s more coherent

I think they are between a rock and a hard place now. If they go with their original sound most new fans won't stay around. If they try the Korn 2.0 route, it's gonna get old quick and they'll go by the wayside. In my opinion best thing they can do, is to fuse the two styles together best they can and see what happens. And ride this gravy train as long as they can to help build a following

I think nu metal/alt metal should have a revival but not a rehash like this track. Push things even further. Make things more experimental and dark. I think one of the last bands to be successful at this was Hollywood Undead but feel like it went into a corny direction. Hip hop and metal can mix. Need more people who know how to actually rap and write lyrics and not doing crossover just because they can. Stuff like Biohazard and Rage Against the Machine are examples of this succeeding. That's my opinion though.
