@guzzialfa I might just take you up on that, lol. The base was the first time that I learned to play. Since then, I have taught myself to play both lap steel and pedal steel guitars. I am seventy now but I still play lead guitar in a band, make my own lap steel guitars, and do repairs on allsorts of other types of guitars. I now live in Lake Taupo in New Zealand, and I am supposed to be retired, lol. Thanks for replying, Laurajane
The incredible ear and musical ability are unsurpassed but what gets me is how such tiny hands can execute so much strength as well as the span between frets to be able to play these difficult bass passages. The instruments are full scale basses that adults play which is no less than mind-boggling how she navigates the fretboard so easily. It's the equivalent of an adult bassist playing a fretboard that's 15' long and 6" wide. This amazing little girl is destined to be one of the best in the world and in a very short time. Dad is an incredible talent as well and a wonderful teacher. Focused and disciplined but fun and loving at the same time. The videos they make together are so entertaining and such good quality, I could watch them all day. Bravo Ellen & Dad!

In my younger days I always wanted to play bass guitar. I never got around to it. Now after I discovered Ellen I decided to give it a try. Thank you Ellen for the inspiration. At the age of 65 I hope I can learn a few tunes before my arthritis kicks in.
I've played bass more off than on for close to 30 years. The last 4 years have seen me actually jump in and start seriously learning. I'm closing in on 60 in a couple months. I've met a lot of men and women in their late 50's on into their 70's that were new to playing instruments. I deal with arthritis pain some days but when I start really getting into it then the pain is quite minimal.
I had my own band at 16, but I couldn't afford a bass... I didn't get my first bass until I was 60! I have arthritis everywhere... When I grab my bass and start playing, I feel nothing but the music... Keep playing... Wonderful things will happen.
Hello Ellen, I am a Brazilian graphic artist who lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and I have been sharing your videos and your talented learning work. The first time I heard you playing the bass, I confess that I cried, I saw an angel of God touching my ears and heart. You are so beautiful, simple and charismatic, I am very grateful that you shared this with everyone, it is great to see young people taking an interest in such a difficult instrument to play, enjoying classic rock and being recognized by musicians from their favorite bands. I particularly like the basses on some of Jean Luc Ponty's albums, a very talented French progressive jazz musician, and of course Stanley Clark, who I saw playing in New York in 1983 with the musical group Return To Forever. I wish that God's blessings always reach you and your family who encourage and help you share your talent with all of us! Always keep smiling and happy! With all due respect, I love you! And I am sure that Brazil loves you too! I will be your number one fan here, you can be sure of that! A loving kiss to your heart! Thank you!

I would already put her in my top five. I suppose the deciding factor will be when she starts releasing more of her own material rather than covering things that have already been written. Still some of the things she’s covering. I wouldn’t even try. She’s amazing.
That smile says it all. Also, you can tell she's loved and encouraged massively. That's so heart warming. She is having a good time and getting that huge buzz which is the payoff for mastering a difficult but super cool tune. Brilliant to see there's amazing dad's out there. Cool beyond words.

Thank you Ellen. Watching the pure joy you experience while playing will always brighten my day. You are a gifted player. PS. Dad thank you for helping and guiding with a father's love your beautiful daughter.❤❤❤❤❤
I've been following Yoyoka for half her life now, and found Ellen through their collaboration. What a great day that was! The one thing they both have in common are great parents who support them and are great roll models for them. Here's to the parents of the next great generation of musicians!
I was waiting patiently for Tool to show up. Glad you included it! Justin is an absolutely amazing and incredibly creative bass player. I didn't realize originally that a lot of the weird sounding solos were Justin on bass, not Adam on guitar - including Schism (slow section), The Pot (breakdown), Vicarious (breakdown), Invincible (directly after tempo change). It's incredible what he can do. Kudos!
I thought it was great when Ellen challenged him to make a top ten funk video 😂 I'm looking forward to seeing Sheehan's picks - a challenge is always fun.
Really Good Job Ellen! And your mom did a really great job with your hair! So much talent in the family! Keep playing and always keep having fun!!! 👏 CC
I would absolutely love to hear a part two and part three. Prog Metal is my jam, so I have most of those albums, including Dad’s Coexist. You both have massive chops!
This is my Jam! Awesome kid. I still remember been a kid just like Ellen back in the 80s and getting my mind blown listening my uncles and cousins metal albums, I knew I was a Metalhead literally the first second I listened the first metal song they played for me, and then again when I played in my first band, after all these years I still feel the same rush. Also, thanks dad, you guys rock!
Billy Sheehan's a really cool dude. Mr. Big came thru town (Sneakers in San Antonio) in '87, I think. Billy was sittin by himself before the show so I went over to say hi. I told him I was a bass player and he ask me to have a seat. We chatted for most of a half hour. He taught me some moves and talked about the road. Thanks Billy.
It really depends when you talk with him. I remember him from way back in Godforsaken Buffalo in his Talas days and hung out with him many times. Some days he's be totally chill as you mentioned, other days he was a complete jerk you just needed to avoid. I remember after gigs, he'd just throw his bass in the back of his van and close it up then head back inside. When I say throw, I mean it literally as in no case, just open the back and toss it in. His knowledge of the bass and his skills were and are amazing. I think what he's done for upcoming bassists needs to be celebrated for what he's given back to music.

Ellen, I’ve run out of words to describe how amazing your skills are. No doubt, you have a fantastic career ahead of you as a musician. Please don’t forget to be a kid along the way.
This is an epic breakdown of some of the best metal bass lines out there! The way you tackle these iconic riffs is seriously impressive, and the fact that Billy Sheehan challenged you makes it even more awesome. You’ve really highlighted the power and complexity of bass in metal. Every track you covered is a banger, and your skill on the bass shines through. A must-watch for any metalhead or bass enthusiast! 🎸🤘
Ellen! I haven't seen a video from you in about a year. You were amazing them... But I'm floored by how much you've improved! OMG - Your hands! The link between your brain and the bass is so stong! Just wow :)
Go to classic metal, and give it a try!! Metal is a very varied genre; not just some few extremes! Mostly Not like the stupid, clueless, ignorant and hateful prejudices!! It’s very varied! Give iron maiden try they are the best band for me, and one of the best musicians generally for me; not just metal! Pop mostly is hackneyed, boring and repetitive!! And it’s just a shitty one man show mostly!
@@osamaqtaitat I understand. I've been teaching guitar since 1982 so I'm very aware of what Metal is and how it has evolved over the years. My sons love Dream Theater. Is that Metal? I don't care for it much. Iron Maiden - just listened to Wasted Years, Run To The Hills, The Trooper, Stranger In A Strange Land, the vocals are awesome but the only thing I don't like is the wide vibrato of the singers. That turns me off for some reason, and the whole overall vibe is just not for me. I've studied voice for years, and even studied opera, which is not for me either, so I understand what a good voice sounds like. These guys in Iron Maiden have good voices no doubt. Sorry that I don't love it like you do. I started listening to music just after I was born but really started paying attention about 1964. 1969 was the first year that I picked up a guitar but still metal is not really my thing. I used to listen to Black Sabbath back in the 70's but after I while I realized that Ozzy is just too monotone for me. Also, the lyric subject matter of most metal doesn't usually appeal to me. The lyrics have to mean something to me. I don't care how awesome the music seems to be. My favorite composers are George Gershwin, Beethoven, and Bach. I play hymns on the organ in church. They are a good study into good voice leading. Guitar is simpler for me. Not much blues, a little classical, mostly folk music, a little jazz... stuff people like to listen and relate to. You can visit my channel and see what I teach there. I do have a little ACDC and Led Zeppelin on the channel. I can't remember for the moment what else I have posted there that is more heavy. When my students want to study metal I teach it to them, no problem. Hey, thanks for the comment on my comment. Hal Stead

I would love to see you play more of you favorite metal bass lines, so I vote for another video! You're an amazing bassist, Ellen. You deserve every single bit of the success and recognition you have gotten. I look forward to seeing you continue to grow!
OMG! She's come such a long way. Now she's better than most bass players out there, and at her age!
Thank you Ellen. Watching the pure joy you experience while playing will always brighten my day. You are a gifted player.
PS. Dad thank you for helping and guiding with a father's love your beautiful daughter.❤❤❤❤❤
She's getting every day better and her playing is incredible! Kudos!!!
I've been following Yoyoka for half her life now, and found Ellen through their collaboration. What a great day that was! The one thing they both have in common are great parents who support them and are great roll models for them. Here's to the parents of the next great generation of musicians!
Yes parents are a great defence wall western society should note this type of parents divorce after divorce a sad thing for the children
Kudos!
What a wonderful treat to be able to sit back and watch you. The bass seems like a just an extension of you. You are incredible, keep at it. Thanks
I have a feeling that Billy Sheehan is going to have a great day seeing this.
I thought it was great when Ellen challenged him to make a top ten funk video 😂 I'm looking forward to seeing Sheehan's picks - a challenge is always fun.
Omg!! One of the best top 10 I’ve seen!! 🤗🤘. Thank you!! And yes, would love to see more! Your talent is absolutely amazing!!❤
I have a feeling that Billy Sheehan is worried!!!
This really shows how versatile Ellen is! Out of her usual comfort zone and playing metal like she was born playing it!
Just no words for this, even epic is not enough. This girl is so good.
The talent and commitment to the craft for someone so young is nothing short of impressive and exemplary! Great work kid. You are awesome!
Really Good Job Ellen! And your mom did a really great job with your hair! So much talent in the family! Keep playing and always keep having fun!!! 👏
CC
This is the best thing I've ever heard/seen on a bass guitar! Pure goosebumps!
Made my day playing old classics, I can see you`re into it! Thanks for the excellent music.
I would absolutely love to hear a part two and part three. Prog Metal is my jam, so I have most of those albums, including Dad’s Coexist. You both have massive chops!
Thank you for the support, I appreciate it!
Yes, this!
Your dad doesn't need Billy Sheehan playing for him when he's got you. You're absolutely phenomenal!
Thank you! I'm enjoying and now very much appreciating metal as a genre for the first time in my life. Mind blown.
I'm impressed by how professional your presentation is. The bass playing is awesome.
I Love when you hit cool transition parts that you start smiling. having fun, enjoying it. You're an immense talent!
Sounds like a class act. 👍
@CavyWheek he is. I've texted with him on a couple of occasions and he took the time to answer questions I had about his signature pedal.......
I met Billy at a Winery Dogs meet and greet in 14 and he was super nice to me. Signed my American made G&L L-2000. Class act.
Im so glad that Ellen is not influenced with the current trending kinda music but got attached to the real ones. Appreciate the dad for this ✅🙌
True....gettin tiered of all thos polyphia "s wannabe....no dsrspct to th band...😊
Totally!❤
Случайно наткнулся на это видео. Какой же позитив. Такая милая ушастенькая и талантливая девчонка. Она слышит ритм всем телом , а эмоции... Мы взрослые наверное так уже не умеем.
Ellen,
You are just the sweetest young lady with killer bass skills! The force is strong with this one! ❤
Ellen !! We missed you. How great you're back and making our day. Greetings from good old Germany. Thanks to you and your family to let us have a look to your unfurling talent and your favorite music to enjoy - fantastically done . . . .
I had a spotify playlist with iconic rhythm guitar riffs from a Rick Beato YT video and now I added your metal bass songs from this video. Awesome! Makes my daily morning walks so much more fun. Thank you Ellen!
This is without a doubt one of the best videos that Ellen has put out.... JUST WOW!!!! That was so much fun to watch!!!
Symphony X - my favourite metal band! Amazing! I’ve been playing bass since 1997, you have a great future ahead of you girl!
My God that child is on the highest level...never seen so much talent.
Congratulations to Her and to Dad.
I wish you the best.
Simply an amazing list of metal bass lines... Congrats and follow being an incredible daughter and musicist... we are your fans!! We love your songs!!
wow! You just keep getting better and better! My expectations can barely keep up! Challenging yourself like this will ensure you can tackle anything.
Hope you had a great birthday.
I'm knocked out! So clean, so tight and so much feel. Some amazing lines, I'm literally blown out of the park!
Omg you absolutely nailed the tone on Dawn Patrol!
Amazing job playing all these insanely complicated songs!
Thank you Wave!
This is possibly the most talented and well selected performance I have ever seen!! Brilliantly done!!
Your progression as a bassist is nothing short of Phenomenal. The Muse bass lines you just absolutely slay them, better than the bassist who wrote and played it.
I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smouldering
Fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed
Will set two lovers' souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes
Testing our communication
I’m really impressed with the sonics of heavy metal bass, that’s where it’s at. Great job playing too. That Symphony X bass line in Domination is top of the line.
Thank you Ellen for this video. You are great. Greetings from the Netherlands
i want too
Wow, I was not expecting how clean they are with those pretty hard riffs.. amazing!
You shred that bass. You're a force to be reckoned with young lady. Look forward to the great future that I know awaits you.
well, I think we can safely say that Hysteria is now Ellens signature song... She can probably play it in her sleep... Glad to see she is challenging herself with new music and the pick and wa wa seem to be new as well. Keep rocking girl!
The best thing about this video is seeing how much this young lady enjoys playing. I'm sure that there is a ton of hard work that goes into it and she is always all smiles. Awesome!
I don't have words to describe what I just witnessed.. Amazing, wonderful and inspiring is just a select few to begin trying to. U rock!
I don't know whether to burn my bass or practice harder?! Incredible playing!
Both. Practice on a burned bass, it will be hard.
The last one “Schism” by Tool, it’s my favorite.
OMG... You are amazing! Your dad must be so proud. Keep doing what you do! Loved every second...
Ellen, I’ve run out of words to describe how amazing your skills are. No doubt, you have a fantastic career ahead of you as a musician. Please don’t forget to be a kid along the way.
as a guitarist, i am so impressed by the span of your fingers on a bass for such a young age, brilliant!
Just wow :)
Welcome back!
Metal isn't my thing but watching Ellen play bass is. Thanks Ellen! Very Cool.
Hal Stead
This little lady makes it look easy. They are NOT!! She is quite a talent....... She has a gift. Granted she works hard!!! She is super smart!! Bravo girl........................ Thanks
Wow who know Ellen’s Dad had a prog metal band with BOTH Sheehan AAAAND Wooten in it??? Wooooo doggie going to be fun to listen to it!!!!!!
ye its a great album
Yeah now his connections with the industry makes sense. Going to listen to this now.
I don't understand why he hires second rate bassists when Ellen is so good.
Don't get mad folks I'm kidding.
(Except for the part about Ellen being so good.)
You're getting better and better, especially your voices! Keep it up
Your talent brought tears to my eyes. Magnificent!!!
I was amazed at your skill playing the baseline in Hysteria, even bass players in reaction videos were very impressed. Me, I was concerned your fingers didn't bleed after. After watching this video, I see many of the base lines exceed Hysteria. Your talent is amazing.
Amazing playing Ellen love it !!
The confidence. This is beautiful.
