Thanks for this video I feel real confident now. I’m restoring an 82 GT and just got the motor out and dash apart. Can’t wait to throw in a k kit and a new rear end. Very excited!
Expect to modify the bolt holes because they do not line up exactly, I had to move 2 holes over a little to make it work. It took me and a friend 4 1/2 hours to remove the old suspension and put in the new K-member and the A arms. Will start on the struts and camber plates tomorrow.
Hey Landon! What size wheels and back spacing are you running in the front with the team z front end conversion kit. Tried putting on 17x9 with 5.98 BS. The wheel suck out way past fender and looks like the tire will hit the coil over. Thanks!
The front wheel setup on the car in the video was a 15x3.5" Weld Prostar with a -13mm offset (1.75" BS). The tire is 185/68/15. A 9" wide front wheel on a Fox Mustang causes problems regardless. I've always had to add steering rack limiters and modify the inner fender splash shields with a heat gun to achieve adequate clearance. Even then, I've still had a 9" wide wheel/tire rub somewhere. A 9" wide wheel with a 5.98" BS shouldn't stick "way out" past the fender. If the control arm is Fox spec (center of bushing to center of ball joint). That wheel should "work" with still performing the aforementioned steps above. Are you using an SN spindle? SN spindles will move the wheel out in comparison to a Fox spindle. -Landan
I've been rocking this k-member on a daily car in Colorado for a minute. Its great! I have a question for landan... how you torquing those ball joint nuts? Thank you for all your videos.
Thanks for the comment and for the support! We appreciate it. I just put a big a ol' wrench on the nut and tighten it to what I think is 129 lb-ft. -Landan
You can use factory lower control arms and coil springs with a Team Z LS-swap k-member as long as you run an upper spring perch. We sell the BMR version (links below). Also, due to the variances in aftermarket k-members and factory or factory-style front lower control arms, you'll have to widen the ears on the k-member where the control gets positioned. -Landan We did something similar whenever we were mocking up the 7.3L Godzilla engine in one of our cars. So question: ive got an 03 mustang that im considering changing the k member out for this upr one i found in a storage unit i bought. Is the process more or less the same as in this video? My rustang has a 4.6 2v.
Joe, Excellent question! It is important to have the k-member bolted in, squared up and aligned with the rest of the vehicle. This will ensure that when you have the suspension aligned there will be no surprises. If you have any other question contact us with the link below. Have a great day! lmr.com/contact
Todd - To my knowledge, Strange only manufacturers their strut to fit 87-93 Mustangs. 79-86 V8 and 79-93 4-cylinder cars will have to convert to 87-93 or 94-04 SN95 spindles to fit the Strange struts. Hope this helps! -Landan
Gregory - I've never put a 4R70W in a Fox Body. I don't see why the factory shifter wouldn't work. However, the gear selection will read incorrectly since a factory AOD face plate reads "1, 2, D, D(in circle)". A 4R70W utilizes a "1, 2, D and then an electronic O/D off button." Hope this helps. -Landan
@@latemodelrestoration What you said is an important consideration, the caster/camber plates will either make or break a coil over setup as far as road hazards are concerned.
BMR is really nice. Just as good or better as MM and you don't have to use coilovers with BMR every other aftermarket k member you must use coilovers I'm gonna use regular style springs and adjustable struts.

Rock Diesel, you are very welcome! We try to do what we can to help out our fellow enthusiasts!
What about getting the k member squared up?
Great detailed video of the install. Thanks for making good video content for us fox guys.

Landon you should do a install video on the upr rear shock coilovers.!
Marteze - I'll pass that idea along to our Video Team so they can discuss it. Good idea and thanks for sharing! -Landan
Late Model Restoration NP man and I hope they say yes.lol thanks man.!!
I agree. Would really like to see how they are on a fox especially a street driven car.

Does this K member work to be able to install a LS 4.8 motor ???
You'd have to buy one that accepts LS swaps
Yea ya always make it look easy Landon lol
Haha! Thanks. Trust me, I struggle from time to time as well. -Landan
What rack did yall use for this installation?
Will i need A Arms and the coil springs with the LS k member or can i use factory A Arms and springs?

@@latemodelrestoration good to hear, thanks!
Another cool video!!!
Thank you, Tim, please let us know if you ever need anything!
Do these need to be squared up, or is there no adjustments for that?

@@latemodelrestoration I was curious because I’ve came across videos of people doing it
factory k members were just slammed up at the factory.
Is the aftermarket steering rack required cuz my factory one is hitting against the the K-member now
Where on the k-member is the power steering rack making contact? -Landan
What year are the spindles???
87-93 V8 Fox Mustang spindles.
How important is it to be lined up perfectly or should I just boot it on and alignment will do the rest

The steering Wheel must be hard tu turn if its not hydraulic?
Jesse - Yes, manual steering racks require more effort to turn the wheel. It isn't that bad in a Fox Mustang, though. -Landan
What part number for that Strange Front Strut for the coilover kit? I have a 1979 Foxbody, but can't find that on your website or Strange website

@@latemodelrestoration thanks. I didn't realize i would need to change spindles. I have a full tubular k member and a arms. I'll look into it

How tight did you torque the A Arms? The final time.
148 ft lbs is the torque spec
I bought this kit a while back and one of my ball joints had a grease fitting and the other side did not. Is that normal?
It definitely needs one! I would contact Team Z or source one local from an Auto Parts store or hardware store. -Landan
What its the labor time for this?
That's going to depend on the skill level of the installer. Could be 4 hours, could be 8 hours. Tough to say. Thanks. -Landan
Now will this work for an 82 4 cylinder setup? Going to be swapping to v8.
Yes it will
Are tubular Crossmembers strong enough for everyday street use
They are strong, however they are not recommended for daily street driving due to uncontrolled conditions such as big pot holes.
I have no issues driving mine with the UPR complete tuber suspension
@@latemodelrestoration What you said is an important consideration, the caster/camber plates will either make or break a coil over setup as far as road hazards are concerned.
What spring length and rate did you go with for the front?
This was a 12" 150 LB spring used on this build.
Would my average local mechanic shop be able to install this whole setup?
You might want to call and ask. I don't know the limitations and skills of your local mechanic. -Landan
Why can’t you do it yourself?
Will this work with 4 lug?
Yes, this and all K-Member's will work with your 4-lug.
Can I use stock springs?
Please give our tech team a call at 866-507-3786.
Why don’t you show how to square it up to the back
MM seems to have the strongest K-Member, Team Z K-Member looks weak and would hate to see if one got into an accident
BMR is really nice. Just as good or better as MM and you don't have to use coilovers with BMR every other aftermarket k member you must use coilovers
