I bought my '69 Bronco in 1981 when I graduated high school and it is still one of my regular drivers, I think I'll stick with it.
sounds like you might have it just about broke in then!
69 is always the best
Yeah everywhere you go you get stuck in it
YEAH BECAUSE THAT 69 PROBABLY GOT A V8 AND THE GEARS NOT TO MENTION YOU GOT REAL FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SOLID AXLES. WHICH BY THE WAY IS LIGHT YEARS BETTER 😅
I bought my 1969 in 1984 and I still have it.
Ahh yes.....new "offroad" vehicles....they're riddled with plastic, sometimes a sheet metal bumper, electronics and no real tow points. Ill stick with my 82 k5 thanks.
Absolutely! I feel the same way about my '90 K5.
@@t.l.robinson2162 ....94 GMC K1500
" FORD has a better idea" ... LoL
That's modern fuel efficiency and crash standards requirements for you.
That said, there's very few stock vehicles that would survive those hills anyway.
Weird. I've owned roughly a dozen K5's and not one of them had factory recovery points like every new Jeep and Bronco comes with from the factory.
Not to mention any one of my Jeeps will out wheel any K5 I ever owned or built. Even the ones with big blocks, one ton axles, etc...
It's refreshing to see the younguns willing to get their hands dirty. Good on ya Abby and good on you dad.
hwat? Don't be surpised. Come take a look at the young trade apprentices in my area for plumbing, they are the best.
It really is cool that Abbey hangs out with you on the trails. She's a good daughter.
Love seeing Abbey getting straight into it, not afraid to get her hands dirty. She will end up a being a skilled and valuable partner for your business.
That's his grand daughter isn't she?
@@seananon4893daughter
My daughter hung out a lot with me in her youth through teen years. She knows basic car maintenance, brake replacement, siding, roofing, etc. These skills will serve her well through life.
That is a Good Daughter!! Very impressive!!!
Eric you have a daughter like my oldest! She was always with me, on the motorcycle, in the shop, out on recovery adventures! She'll be 36 this year, and had worked as a millright for the last 12 years!
I trust a straight axle over this any day .
Ever see what a Humvee can do?
@@RMosher11 I have not to be honest but compared to this? Might be a different story
Explain why a Hummer can off-road as good as a Jeep any day without a straight axle? Only situations that stop a Hummer h3 or H1 from going where a Jeep can go is width. Jeeps are nice and skinny, Hummers tend to be wide. Years of living in Moab taught me that fact!
@@f5fstop do you have a Hummer?
Yeah me either still pick a Jeep little Jeep for 3,000$ over a hummer can they go better yeah probably where you are from but not in Kentucky you need a skinny short vehicle to drive through all the trees, stick with my answer, sure if you wanna pay more for independent front suspension go for it but why?
@@RMosher11 Its almost like an overbuilt military application is different than whats made for mass consumption on the civilian market.
Nothing beats an old square body GM. They look way better than anything new too.
Anything in those year's is much better than the crap their building now
9:25 She is turning that wheel like its gonna do something. That will be a clock spring on top of the broken steering shaft
she's got zero idea how completely fvcked and warranty voided that vehicle is now xD
@@HamburgerAmy You might not remember...but back around 1995 Ford advertised their trucks as 'Ford Tough'! and ended each commercial with one being jumped WAY up in the air. They didn't show them land....and I worked at a Ford dealership and I couldn't believe how many pickups we got in all busted to hell. Bent frames, smashed suspension parts and to a man every owner complained 'Hell...I SEEN it on TV!! And we wasn't NEAR as high as they were'!!
We had one in the shop a few weeks back, impact on the RR tire, didn't even damage the rim. Bent the rear axle housing and the Panhard bar. You could SEE the camber on the RR wheel due to the bent axle housing, and the whole axle assembly was displaced an inch and a half to the left due to the pretzeled Panhard bar. Plus, the immense inertia of the huge beadlock wheel/tire combo hanging on the rear gate bent the body shell where the gate hinges attach. Offroad vehicle, eh? Nah, just a lookit-me!!! mall-crawler.
It not a Hummer dummy..and the Jeep is no better
@@chadhaire1711 What's a "Hummer dummy"? Offroad much, do ya? Lotsa the old stuff WAS competent to go in the woods. Better steel, and more of it where it matters.
look in the mirror
@@chadhaire1711 You're very special.
It has dana 44 axles so they did something more than they were saying. You'd think you know that if you really worked on one.
Hey Eric,
Miss Abby seems to be right at home at the back of that wrecker.
Won't be long before she is wheelin Mom and Dad's wreckers.
Had to comment...4 years ago my 1990 Bronco II was rear ended by a fully loaded semi truck doing 40mph into which pushed my poor Bronco into the concrete toll booth. My Bronco was totalled with frame bent in two places. However, that old Bronco and my guardian angel saved my life. I did look at new Bronco but not impressed by their frames....I bought a clean 2001 Xterra...much sturdier truck.
You can't compare modern and old vehicles quite the same. Modern ones are designed to bend and buckle AROUND the passengers to save their lives. Old vehicles are just designed to take the hit and transfer all that force to whomever is in the vehicle, often killing or seriously injuring them.
Modern vehicles are far superior when it comes to crash results. Yes pieces come off and it looks worse on the outside. But the passengers almost always fair better.
@@jmo0311 completely fake news made up by the liberal car agenda
@@VTOffRoadAdventuressure they are I've wrecked old vehicles and new vehicles
@@vicaras1 Your personal experience doesn't really mean much vs the many decades of rigorous testing and design put into vehicle crash dynamics.
I wouldn't worry about the bumper too much, this will be a reoccurring issue..
Say what you will about Gene, he DOES have a sense of humor. A Jeep owner, on a first name basis with his service manager at the dealer, ragging on a Bronco owner about reliability. Priceless!
Isn't it illegal to have people in a towed vehicle?? Talk liability!
The older jks have proven themselves to be alright, they still have shitty steering you have to change. The new jl and broncos have way more issues
@@guyfawkesuThe1 On a public Road Yes... Off Road, anything goes....
all offroad vehicles will have parts break, when used in extreme conditions like an offroad park.
that's why people beef up their vehicles to handle those situations, plus to replace the weak parts that the federal government forces auto makers to use to meet the MPG requirements. but a stock IFS vehicle should know their limitations. they are not a Jeep.
To be fair, Broncos were failures before delivery to customers, for like a full YEAR? riddled with problems and LITERALLY bend axles going over potholes?! LOLOLOL
Eric when you get Mara's tow truck finished Abby is going to want a off-road wrecker or buggy as always you guys are awesome
Really apprecited that little girl, she is so enthusiastic with doing these works.💪💪well done.
I used to run them old sling type wreckers. This guy should have 2x4s and 4x4 lengths of wood to use under the front to keep the chains and pivot bar off the towed vehicle. I towed 60s Camaros and mustangs this way no problem.
It's an off road tow rig.
I'll never forget my neighbor's excitement when she proudly announced that her husband had just bought her a "$60,000" Bronco. PT Barnum was right.
yup
What do you care? They’re fine vehicles. Overpriced yes. So is everything. Just be happy for them. You don’t need to have a criticism for everyone.
@@JP-vs1ys If the anecdote is true, then proudly exclaiming something to someone kinda opens you up for criticism...
I think this was one of the three cylinder Sport models? They are Hecho en Mehico. Wife wanted one, we got a Highlander instead. I drive an FJ.
@@JP-vs1ys They're plastic turds for people with more money than sense. I won't be happy for these goofs--I'm going to be happy laughing at them when their shit breaks.
Just love how many people jumps in and gives directions....
Yeah and none of them pick up a shovel !!!!
lol
Typical

Like union workers. 😅
Multi decade Ford Parts Manager here. Unless you’re fantastically wealthy, don’t take that Bronco off road. The parts costs for Broncos are fantastically expensive. I see it every day.
You need to get Bronc busters tie rod trail fix
Ok so yes the bronco break tie rods, but that being said I am yet to see one broken on a stock setup, Sasquatch or not, Basically if you are going to change the geometry you need to upgrade the tie rods, Also starting with the 24's the Sasquatch package come with the hoss 3.0 steering and tie rods
so then you can destroy your steering rack and pay Ford $500 for a backordered one. Ford is a genius!
Just buy a vehicle with a tough, tried and true straight front axle…..Jeep
Nice job getting the Bronco back to the campground. Hope she can get it fixed soon and can get back to the trails!
They have a known steering weakness. You need to upgrade them before they break. But once you fix that it's OK. Won't break again.
They had it back on the trail on Sunday.
Good for her for being mellow. Can’t help but think they’re a bit of passive aggressive chauvinism rearing its head here. Nothing wrong with the vehicle. 4x4 drive is all the same. You can break stuff on a highboy too. Skill goes a long way. But these trails are riddled with idiots on both sides. Folks who don’t know what they’re doing. And those who think they do and judge everyone else.
Where are the big rubber mats for the chains?
Split firehose works pretty nice also.
These modern plastic vehicles on the trails is kinda new. Back in the day they pretty much were only recovering custom offroad trucks with, often homemade, thick metal bumpers. Still, it would be nice to have something a little softer than just chain there.
Awesome recovery for helping that lady out
Always great seeing yous help other's, looked a beautiful day, hope you all had a great time, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Eric you are good at what you do and make it look easy. I always enjoy your videos
this bronco needs the bronco buster tie rods supports that help reinforce the stock parts and would have allowed for the bronco to drive itself out once it was pulled off the obstacle
or leave it on the blacktop where it belongs
@@joeblow123
Good advice, agreed. 💯%
@@joeblow123Or beef it up and keep off roading. At the end of the day someone taking their new Bronco on the trails and spending their money on it has zero bearing on your life. You armchair off roaders are worse than nagging wives.
Not one of them had a shovel and some wood planks with grip tape for under the tires. You can even use a small loading ramps from harbor freight. Rookies
That girl is her fathers shadow that’s beautiful you see him you see her the way it should be two amazing people working hard always god bless
I've seen several videos showing the pitiful design of the Bronco's front suspension. There is even a trail repair kit I've seen on one for the tiny tie rods. If you have the money to buy this overpriced toy, spend enough to upgrade before you go off the pavement. You have a great apprentice working with you. Go Abby!
There are aftermarket parts that make a Bronco very capable but off the assembly line, engineers weren’t designing them to actually go serious off-road.
They're still a light duty SUV under the cool looking body. Really only made for very mild offroading from the factory. Even with the special packages that come with the bigger tires and such.
I don't get the number of people that spend $50k on an SUV to turn around and spend another $20K modifying it to almost be good offroad. It's like the side by sides people dump crazy money into for them to still break all the time. For the money spent could just end up with an offroad buggy or a much more purpose built rig.
Everything is so overpriced now.A rubicon shouldn’t cost 60k or
the 392 version for 90+k.Most any new 4x4 is 60k now. Just ridiculous.
Its the crappy tie rod they use, its the width of a tooth pick
Love watching you man your a great man, and you're the first that started this, and now look, thank you for everything you do and for you and your family. Hard work, amazing people
The jeep was below the bronco pulling down on it and they can't figure out why they couldn't pull it out! Really!
"THE" Wrecker is a beast.
I'd rather be stuck than the damage they're doing. Guy running around with a drink and a staff shirt is pretty impressive.
Bronco is probably totaled and dude is worried about scratching the bumper 😂
His wrecker doesn't even have a sling. He must damage a lot of vehicles.
I was like call this guy out and he rips you truck apart. lol
He's primarily an offroad event wrecker. 99% of the vehicles he hooks to are strictly offroad rigs. If you find yourself getting hooked up by him, you started the day expecting body damage. They are free to not take the assistance from him.
That's one where the rubber straps would be nice to have on the sling!, Crap I even have a sling I carry on the old L-800, Holmes are my favorite tools!!
You have to remember that Eric volunteers his wrecker and his time . If you’re going off roading with plastic bumpers you won’t get the lot bandits coming to rescue you.
It's great to see the young lady helping you out.
A lot of off road vehicles are built or modded. Stock anything is good for soft roading. That is just as true today as it was decades ago.
My stock 1969 FJ40 disagrees. She is pretty badass off road.
Yep, the two FJ40s we had in the 80s were heavy and would out climb everything else in our offroading group, never breaking down.
Nice work getting that heavy beast out of there. The new Broncos' front end issues are well known to everyone but new buyers and some current owners it appears. Upgrade them or keep spares and tools to avoid the drag of shame. Nice to see Abbey working with you.
Hope you had a good Fathers day Eric.
crazy i use to watch this channel back in 09 loll high school days
I used to drive an old ‘78 Chev tow truck with a Holmes 440 tow body on it. It had wide reinforced rubber pads to cushion where the chains are coming into contact with the bumper in their case. That setup worked quite well,
I don’t know how Frond made the Bronco so weak. They made the Raptors for years. The off road experience was there
theres a better off road bronco version/package. this one is the unibody more suited for trails
I had a 72, that was a great bronco. it had no AC, when it rained you got wet. I loved that thing. I dont think the new stock model is ready for serious jeep trails. Id go with a wrangler for off roading.
Matts Off Road Recovery is waving. 😁😁✌️
They need to get a set of the bronc buster tie rod stiffeners ,from what I've seen they work well.
I always wondered about those old wreckers, I thought yeah, those chains and cross bar could ruin bumpers and front end parts, well here you go
It's the driver, not the rig. But I want that dually tow truck, it's beautiful. Clinking and clanking like a good off roader should.
IFS is good for the better ride and most of the time it is fine. Solid front axles are stronger, but they break sometimes too...Nice, your daughter knows what she is doing and helps out.
At 1:25 when she said it doesn't stand up for what it's supposed to do made me laugh. She over estimated it's capabilities, inexperienced and didn't watch where she was going.
Another great job.....you guys rock!!🎉
should have filled the dirt holes the front tires made with dirt before pulling the Bronco forward instead of the Bronco slamming down on its own tailpipe. Don't really need a tow truck in this situation, when high centered put a floor jack under front side of car, Use some compact dirt or sturdy ply wood/wood block under the floor jack and the jack up the front side of car. Shovel some dirt under each front tire and pack it down. Lower down car with floor jack and repeat process until most the weight is shifted to rear tires and enough weight on front tires to push itself back and center of car is completely off ground, put it in reverse and make sure nobody is behind you lightly give it some gas and voila! I have high centered many times in my car off roading and snow, it works every time, just a bit of patience.
it's got the new Ford variable steering where the front wheels can point in 2 different directions
Hell, it's not the bronco that's the problem it's the driver 😂. She doesn't know what she's doing 😂. She keeps trying to steer and hit brakes while the wrecker is towing her😂😂😂.
Had a fancy cherokee circa 1992. Never bought it to off-road hard core. Just to getme through northern ice and snow. Road over a good size buck at about 70 miles an hour on the highway, made an awful noise and might have gotten a tiny bit of air. She bounced for sure. Pulled over and the skids plates saved everything, never even tore off the muffler. Lots of fur and blood but I drove away.
First if that remark, 'it's not a jeep" implies Jeeps cannot break parts, the guy is either drunk, has not idea what he is talking about or just really not intelligent in off-roading.
Many Heepers carry a great supply of parts that can and sometimes break, as well as those who own Broncos, Tacos. etc. A broken tie rod is NOT hard to replace and get the vehicle moving....just make sure to get an alignment before a lot of highway driving.
And if a Hummer hater, explain Tacos (aka Tacoma), Frontiers and others with independent front suspensions that also can keep up with Jeeps on any trail I have been on after seven years in Moab UT.
Yes a solid front axle is nice, but it all comes down to the driver and in many cases the spotter.
"Well, it's not a Jeep"
This should be a commercial for Jeep! 😂 Love it!
Love your wrecker! Such an awesome rig.
If you can't do it with out damaging it leave it alone, it will coast you more than you will make on the recovery and tow, you need a wheel lift or a rollback for these vehicles today,, in this situation a wheel lift integrated with the boom would help a lot,
If you go off roading on rough trails bring 1 or 2 high lift Jack, a shovel, and a come along. Along with a few 20 foot strong straps and a 100 foot rope. Self recovery takes longer when you really dig yourself deep stuck.
It’s easy and quicker when you don’t dig your tires so deep…
Bring those items and you won’t need to call a recovery truck.
All well and good, as I consider those self extraction tools essential and basic. In this case though, we are dealing with broken steering parts rendering those basic items more or less useless. You might be able to get it off it's high center but without steering you are going nowhere.
Well at least she took it out there and gave it a go!
the new bronco's are just good for snow on the streets. I got a 2005 rubicon 3 in lift and 33's and will go just about anywhere.
another recovery well done...i do have to say this though..there are off road buggies and trucks then there is this plastic thing that they call a off road machine..if you're gonna off road a vehicle make dang sure it's built for that environment..we have built a few jeeps for off roading and trails and then we also have our nice daily drivers..gotta build for what you're gonna do with the machine
I love it. Old, simple tech plucking out the fragile new crap from the trails.
Why don't you guys work on Mira's Wrecker? Abby is becoming a very experienced wrecker helper. Guess she'll be the next to want her own wrecker!!!!!!!!!
Need to get a few sets of broncobusters tie links reinforcements for broncos and other ifs trucks
My favorite part was her turning the steering wheel like it was going to do anything while the front end was up on the tow truck. 😂
Bronco owners like it when you tell them what a nice Scout they have. 😁
"Shoulda hired one of the Griner brothers to drive that Bronco down to Aintry"
I totaled it on the trails. But I think the recovery guy messed it up getting it to the road for me. lol
I'd worry about the airbags in something like that. Do you pull a fuse before towing?
Audio starting of the video: "Well...Im gonna destroy another car"
I don’t think it’s going to drive strait 😂
That recovery went fairly smooth. Too bad that the bronco got stuck because of weak parts for an off road rig.
Typical, new bronco owners don't realize all they purchased was an image. Then take it off road and worry about a scratched bumper....
It seems to be true for the raptor also. Both vehicles are very good looking, But they seem to be very gimmicky. The raptor comes with upgraded off road suspension, But in order to be a capable off road vehicle you have to upgrade the suspension. 😂 That being said a stock raptor would have more suspension than I would ever use.
RIGHT 😅
Not all.
Yep so true
Most of these new sun's and trucks. We had 2nd gen tacomas underground, when I was a miner. And they were trash.
Most of the new toyotas, broncos, suvs in general are dog 🐕 shiet.
Combine that with people who don't know how to drive art alone 4wheel and you've got a bad combination.
Mercy, chains on a front bumper, whats wrong with you. I would think you would know better.
Probably scratched the plastic. Probably should change the chains for straps for modern vehicles that have plastic bumpers.
That's a sad sack of s***. Why are you 4 wheeling with plastics anyway? Every single object in on that road is far more detrimental to the vehicle than cosmetic scratches from a chain.
You don't 4x4 to look good, you 4x4 to get to where you're going. Rocks, trees, sand and mud will never be plastic friendly. Enough said.
Maybe winch it onto flat ground and use a tow claw with ratchet straps to clamp the wheels. The chains are painful to watch on those plastic bumpers.
I'd rig that thing up with the rubber straps, damn that's old school. OK if your recovering shit boxes though.
that bronc aint cherry no more
An old ire between the chains and the front bumper might have been a good idea
So cool he has his daughter or granddaughter helping. She probably a better wrench than most men.
There’s something so satisfying in watching people get their $70k vehicles stuck and screwed up.
Not a bronco. Even a Bronco II had a real backbone. These are just an imported passenger car with AWD
Love GSP and that square body Tow Mater. 46 years tinkering and my fondest memories are of corporates and twin sticks. Lox-life
Tell me you don't belong on the trail without telling me.... I've demolished the front of my rig but when the tow truck shows up I'm gonna be worried about putting a t-shirt under the chain. 😂😂😂
It's funny the Bronco has a stock lifting it tires bumpers and everything else. And you look at all these jeeps. I got all these after the market parts on it
I was worried about that young lady getting hurt. It’s cute how she helps with her daddy.
The front end breaking is a known issue on these. There are aftermarket parts to fix it. If you plan on taking one off-road, fix it first.
keep the clips coming
Just wanted to say to u and all your family and friends that help with the channel u are the og recovery channel and do not get enough subs
Good one,
I understand that there's an aftermarket kit to beef up the Bronco tie rods.
I owned the 66 half cab Bronco and a 69 full cab Bronco those were tough vehicles. With 38inch monster Mudders these new Broncos are toys compared to those old ones. Broncos went downhill when they came out with the Bronco 2
You should mount a rear camera on that bad ass old wrecker, I think it would help you out alot and help keep a eye on what your towing out of these hard places!
Ford needs to beef up that front end
Eric will be building a third wrecker soon. The third one wil be for Abby.
Great video
i wonder what the 2 big bumper shackles are for?
shes turning that steering wheel like it matters when its up in the air lol
Turn that wheel while it's on the wrecker like you're gonna steer it where you want to go. 🤣
Nobody rocks the glasses like this dude!😂
