    When I was an 8 year old my 18 year old brother gave me a Honda sl70 motorcycle. I lived on that bike. I would go into the everglades for 40 miles and no one knew were I was as long as I made it home for dinner. South Florida was a great place to grow up.

      My folks had something a bit similar to this when i was a kid. It had four tires and a steering wheel but only sat one person. It had an air-cooled Briggs & Stratton around 8 horsepower. They would let me drive it around the yard for an hour or so once a week, unless it was winter. It had some belt driven contraption bolted to the underside. It was kinda fun. When I was done riding it the grass would be shorter.

    We have one on our farm for our kids. They love it and have learned great vehicle handling skills. I recommend frequently check hardware these regularly and using lock tight as they have issues with hardware coming off. Also they come way over inflated so getting the tire psi down to single digits helps the ride tremendously. Ours was so loud when we got it, then I noticed the chain tensioner was rubbing the chain on the frame by creating too much tension. It has two springs, so I removed one siring and problem solved. So I would definitely check that out. It’s been great other than that stuff. My 3 kids rip around and I have used it to drive my 4 year old on trails while her older brothers were riding their dirt bikes. My wife and I fit on it fine too for cruising into town.

      We had an old gas tractor. My dad took the seat out of back of an International Scout and welded it on the tractor facing backwards behind the tractor drivers seat. That was our "ATV" back then. For us kids it was our pipe trailer tractor, bail trailer tractor, go check the sprinkler lines tractor, get around the farm tractor.
      We had a couple spots where the path crossed a small stream. Used to take visitor kids out then stop in the middle and dump the clutch to buck them into the creek. Every once in awhile my dad would catch me or my brother out somewhere making the tractor do wheelies. They weren't anything to write home about but it would pull the front end off the ground.

    I’ve seen these on sale for $1,700 but they are normally around $2,500 for anyone curious. It’s pretty much a really cool “toy” and go to point a and b. Not too much utility in it. I could see me son having fun in it when he turns like 10+. Rather get this over those plastic battery ones for $200-$600.
    But if you’re just doing light gardening work about your house, this is a good option over spending $11k on a Kubota or similar. Big differences there, but also $9k between them.

    Reminds me of the old Doodlebug tractors that were homemade out of old model T's. The last one I had was made out of a 1928 Ford Model AA truck. Cut the frame down to size, a wooden seat, and a little wooden truck bed in the back to haul hay or whatever. These were made during the depression and especially during WW2 when a farmer couldn't buy a tractor. However, my Doodlebug wasn't really a tractor but more like a 1928 UTV side by side.

Also, there are Doodlebug clubs in the Midwest, at least there used to be. I've thought about building another one sometime in the near future.

    They are fun, but they are junk. The spare and jerry can weight started breaking the back of ours off, among other issues. 6 months in the gear indicator quit, the first week the steering separated at speed. If you buy one you have to tear them all apart and locktite everything. For me it isn't a big deal as I can fix it all, but for the folks that aren't I can see it being a nightmare.

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  11 місяців тому

      Did you warranty any of it? I can see how things will rattle for sure; but thats any gokart. Are you still riding it?

    • @jeepfreak81
      @jeepfreak81 11 місяців тому +4

      @@JoeTheFarmer We still do use it, but not a ton. My kids don't have much interest in it sadly. Ours was Icebear branded. We got it in 2018. I bought it from a local motorsports dealer because they claimed to go through them and do all the prep to make them better. When I hauled it back to show the dealer after it rolled when the steering separated 5 days after Christmas when my kids got it they said "It's Chinese, good luck" and "we said stuff loosens"
      I fully understand equipment, and rattles etc, but the steering should not have completely separated after maybe 1.5 hours of riding. I have a Streaker go-kart that was my original one in the 90's, and it has 1000+ hours on it and never had the stuff loosen up like this one.
      Everyone tells me to blame the dealer, or I should have assembled it myself. My experience has been that none of the bolts at all were properly tightened, or locktited to the point it was dangerous. I eventually tore it down and checked everything.

    • @JoeTheFarmer
      @JoeTheFarmer  11 місяців тому +3

      @jeepfreak81 I hear ya man. I think the hard thing about machines now is that they all need a thorough inspection and setup when they get home. I am yet to find a machine with grease zerks that gets greased when it leaves the dealer. I’ve dug through it and it appears really well built/assembled. Massimo has an assembly facility in TX and they have it dialed in man. Do a great job with prep. But still, always keep an eye on bolts loosening. Appreciate you sharing your experience brother!!!
