I thank my friend Mher for pointing me to this and to my old friend Rob who passed recently, for spending ten hours a week playing this game with me when we served together. Also, I want to thank Rob's family, who indulged me with the honor of playing this game in a sense to help me heal from his loss. We all played a lot of games and enjoyed each others, and puppies, company this last weekend. We love you guys Mel, Alex and Zach! I do not think they will see this today or in the near future, but perhaps someday!
This game is incredibly hard, I reckon that is almost impossible for a child to beat it, especially in the original console without being able to save and replay the same character as many times as you want without having to start all over again., like it is possible to do nowadays in the new classic edition.
Ah, memories....I remember when my little brother and I used to play this in the 90s. My little bro was about 7 at the time, and Bald Bull had been giving him problems for days. When he finally beat him, it warranted a dinner-interrupting telephone call to his best friend, who lived next door. Good times, good times.....
There are some things that are timeless... Old Car styles, Classic Art, Culinary Arts, even certain Video Games have a timeless aspect to them. THIS! Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the NES is one such game. Time has not hurt this game one bit.
Why I watched the entire video...I will never know. Made me think about my Dad playing this game when I was a little kid. He beat Tyson, made my fucking day. RIP Dad, miss you every day... even watching this makes me happy thinking about the times we had together.
My first REAL experience to the NES 8-bit generation , after years playing Atari2600 games! Such a classic game! Sweet memories from 1991... thanks for sharing!
This game brings back so many memories, my brother used to play this game when we were kids, I used to watch my brother play this video game all the time.
and many more during this era, mario was the mascott for the company and they gave him cameos for branding nintendo games as much as they could think of.
My mother caught me using the f-bomb for the first time when I was playing this game when I was about 14. Mike Tyson. I can't remember how many times it took me to beat him, but, the fight with him pissed me off!!! Aahhh, the memories!!! Great vid, btw!
One of the best video games ever! Don Flamenco 2, Sandman, Macho Man and Tyson were the only ones that gave me serious trouble. That is with a lot of practice too. It's not an easy game!

My dream since i was 8 years old was to play and beat Mike Tyson, was too poor to own a Nintendo in the late 80's/early 90's. Today as a hardcore videogame collector, finally played this game from start to finish. All bosses took 1 hour to beat all. Machoman took me 5 hours. Mike Tyson took me 2 days totaling 36 hours and OVER 500 attempts!!! Now i can beat him with ease. -Players MUST memorize all 6 of his attack patterns for all 3 Rounds. -The game trys to program you with timing and the game music get's memorized by the human brain, so in Round 1 when he does his stutter before attacking you dodge too early and he gets you that way. I was able to counter this by wearing a headset playing aggressive music (Death Grips - The Money Store) which forced me to only move when seeing the blue flash and preventing my brain from memorizing any timing from game music. The wining percentage went to a point where i can almost beat him every time now, it made a massive difference! -You do more damage by attacking back on the side he's punching on. -You do more damage by delaying your 2nd punch (you can also hear a sound difference on the 2nd hit when you time the 'Delayed Punch' correctly. -The start of the 2nd round you can get unlimited stars if you block + body hit Tyson, but you need to body attack him BEFORE he throws the punch, the game delays the input feedback. You do this by blocking and spamming the attack button AT THE SAME TIME WHILE YOU'RE BLOCKING. You can do this strategy until you are out of hearts, after that you'll be tired but the good thing is it forces Tyson to change his punching strategy which then allows you to not only can u start punching him in the face to do major damage, but also speeds up the round process giving you more time in the Round 2 to do more damage, increasing your odds for a 3rd knockdown win. -Players MUST take advantage of attacking him back each time Tyson misses, in order to have enough time to knock him down enough times before the Round ends. To win Tyson is not a race to go the distance, the goal is to down him 3 times in Round 2. -You can beat Tyson by a 'Decision' in round 3 if you knock him down more times vs how many times he knocked you down and by reaching 5000 points. -Easiest way to beat Tyson would be knocking him down 3 times in Round 2. One strategy is to get him down to 5% health at the end of Round 1, so you can get the fast knockdown at the begining of Round 2. -Round 1 keep your eyes on his black shorts to see the blue flash. When he changes and starts punching forward during the next half of the round, keep your eyes on his eyes and wait for his winking eyes. For the rest of the game keep your eyes on his eyes. -In the middle of Round 2, Tyson will do his forward punching special attack + 2 uppercuts. DON'T block as shown in this video as you take damage and he tires you out preventing you to do a counter attack to damage Tyson and burning your clock. Instead, Dodge 4 times to the left, making Tyson waste his special attack and preserving your health. You must dodge 4 times with the D-pad in almost a 'Delayed' pattern with a 'flow' to it. Tap-tap-tap-tap. -Use your Stars safely when Tyson misses during his 'Wink Punch'. Punch ONE time to stun him, then use your Star. This will do massive damage helping you get those 3 knockdowns in Round 2.
When I played through the second Bald Bull fight I thought that him regenerating when his health runs out was just a bullshit glitch (no pun intended) until I realized you had to use a super uppercut or counter his bull charge 😂
I hated how Nintendo kept releasing the wrong version that had Mr. Dream. This here, the one with Iron Mike himself, is the REAL NES Punch Out. It is a fun game, no doubt, but I enjoy Super Punch Out in the SNES way more. The 16-bit game is more polished and balanced on controls. World Circuit is always trouble. I like how Little Mac is tiny because the NES can't put him in the proper size the '84 arcade did. But I seriously don't recommend this on the NES Classic if you're aiming to beat the game, because this game demands perfect reflexes and LCD tvs can't register the speed quick enough to dodge Mr. Sandman, Super Macho Man, or Mike Tyson.
You make it look so easy! I never had this game, and the first time I ever played it was when I bought the Mini NES last year. Lol, took me awhile to get past Glass Joe. :)
The "training intermissions" in this game were redone for Punch Out!! Wii. The scene of Doc Louis and Little Mac is faithfully recreated. Said recreated scene comes after a bit of training at the gym.
I dont know why i thought about this game that i decided to look it up and watch this awesome longplay. I was never good at it as a kid because I was just focused on hitting the other guy but didn’t understand the concept of stamina and dodging. So I was awful with this game, but i loved the music. Thanks for the upload and the good memories.

That twister Punch from Super macho man was nerveracking but the music was awsome for 8-bi luved the training music too this game so ahead of it's time for 1987 release.lol I used to have all the pass keys memorized and fighting King Hippo was so funny I remember my little brother cracking up laughing at him keeping his drawls shorts up lol!
Nervewracking, yes. I can never dodge it. Ever. Not even Mr. Sandman's Dreamland move. At least in the Wii game, they made it super obvious when it's coming.
DLC Dude On the NES when the Mr. Sandman and Super Macho man were and most of the top boxers were about to throw their punches you can see a quick flash to warn u it's about to happen.
Punch out was a very big part of my childhood&played punch out everyday as a kid&im 37&punch out is still my favorite boxing game of all time&fight night is a copycat punch out even though fight night was good but will never up to mike tyson punch out
I remember being in elementary school and playing this game everyday after school at my friends house and figuring out the patterns to beat all the opponents. King Hippo gave us hell for a while until I finally figured out that you had to hit him in the face right when he opened his big mouth. I also remember the first time I realized you could slug bald bull in the gut when he charged and knock him down. Haha, those were fun times, what a great game!
34:13 You can cause a lot of damage, if you dodge/duck Tyson's upper and punch him at the same side his hand comes (Tyson uses his left, you use your right). It happens sometimes here.
Joseph DeGarmo lol mario (just gonna go to hame and chill) Doc (hey Mac im getbthat bike and steal it) Mac( ._.?) *Doc steal maroi's bike*mario ( HEY THAT NIGGA STOLE MY BIKE )
everybody can relate to something about playing a NES game, I was a die hard fan of the Mega man series (and still is) and each and every time I see a playthrough I get nostalgic and remember all the rainy weekend spent playing those and the imaginary world it broght me to... those were the good times
Hardest part (other than Tyson) was timing Sandman's uppercut sequence, 1 and you're done. And why did Macho Man have gray hair in his pic when it said he's 27 lol??
KTAVERILL In the Wii version, it is toupee, and knocking it off him actually enrages him to the point where he will go on a rampage where only knocking Little Mac down can give him calm.
You can see all fighters have pair of pallete swap. Only King hippo have unique sprite, others same body but different head and color Glass Joe = Don Flamenco Von Kraiser = Great Tiger Piston Hondo = Mike Tyson or Mr.Dream Bald bull = Mr.Sandman Soda Popinski = Super Macho Man
During my video game playing prime (13 to 17) I used to abuse Tyson. Once you navigated through his 1st round uppercuts, you could start to work on him. In the 2nd round you begin to score your uppercuts and that's when you floor him. If I was on top of my game he'd be finished in Rd 2. Sometimes I would need Round 3 to TKO him, but almost never would it reach a decision. Today I'm 45 and I can no longer navigate the timing of those early uppercuts. I never had any sort of athletic prime but maybe this is how they feel when they can no longer do the things that were once so routine to them.
I forgot all about this game. Growing up this was the shit.I would stay up all night on the weekend trying to make it to tyson cause this thing had no way to save your progress. The good old days.
I like when you saved the 2 star punches against Mike, then used them for a knock-down. I’ve been unable to defeat the second Bald Bull, but I’m still trying.

King Hippo gave us hell for a while until I finally figured out that you had to hit him in the face right when he opened his big mouth. I also remember the first time I realized you could slug bald bull in the gut when he charged and knock him down. Haha, those were fun times, what a great game!
1:28 Dude, Mario's gone Turbo!
34:13 You can cause a lot of damage, if you dodge/duck Tyson's upper and punch him at the same side his hand comes (Tyson uses his left, you use your right). It happens sometimes here.
why does Bald Bull look like Charles Barkley?
pnsmexico Yeah He Looks Like Barkley After One Too Many Burgers & Shakes.
Bald Bull has more hair growing out his ears than Barkley has on his head.
The best Boxing game ever!. Nice played. Mike Tyson fight is so hard. I won back in time, and few years ago, repeat thats.
6:19 NIGGA STOLE MY BIKE!!!
It's little mac, he's not gay with his pink coat also.
I will never be able to watch that cutscene without thinking nigga stole my bike.

No World Trade Center in the NY cutscene. They knew what wolud happen?!?! Iluminatti confirmed.
Eric Ortiz i actually never thought of that after many many years seeing that scene
A true classic... NES games never get old.
6:19 & 13:32
*NIGGA STOLE MAH BIKE*
Wow, that bearded dude in the front row really DOES nod for Piston Honda 2 and Bald Bull 2.... That's pretty cool.
0:19 looks like the father from Family Matters lol
for real it looks exactly like the black guy from the office American version
Carl Winslow? Yeah I know that
+414MrMilwaukee i just bought the season 3 dvd after u made that comment..i miss that show
He just looks like a man to me.
I thought he looked like uncle phil from fresh prince of bel-air
everybody can relate to something about playing a NES game, I was a die hard fan of the Mega man series (and still is) and each and every time I see a playthrough I get nostalgic and remember all the rainy weekend spent playing those and the imaginary world it broght me to... those were the good times
Hardest part (other than Tyson) was timing Sandman's uppercut sequence, 1 and you're done. And why did Macho Man have gray hair in his pic when it said he's 27 lol??
because wigs
Dye
some people get gray very fast. a couple of my family members started to get gray hair in their mid 20's.
@@sjoerd3568 facts. I started going gray at 21. By 23 it started falling out.
His hair was sun bleached, explains the tan.
Loved this game as a kid :)
You Gonna beat Mike Tyson
I really miss these 8 bit sound tracks
give mike tyson a chance
The game has clearly inspired Attack on Titan, human is the character, the foe is an Abnormal Titan
I always thought Don Flamenco looks like Inspector Gadget!
***** And it wouldn't be years later when the Wii revival came out and we discovered Don's hair was really a toupee.
XD A toupee? Really? Well, why not!
KTAVERILL In the Wii version, it is toupee, and knocking it off him actually enrages him to the point where he will go on a rampage where only knocking Little Mac down can give him calm.
Spike Riley Actually in the NES' version intermissions with Don when you damage him enough, his portrait would show that it's actually a toupee.
In my opinion, they tried he looks like Julio Iglesias, the Spanish singer.
Im sorry about ur loss but am so glad that u have great memories that live through u. love 2 u n know ur father is watching u watching this.
7:03 I love Don's dance...
You can see all fighters have pair of pallete swap. Only King hippo have unique sprite, others same body but different head and color
Glass Joe = Don Flamenco
Von Kraiser = Great Tiger
Piston Hondo = Mike Tyson or Mr.Dream
Bald bull = Mr.Sandman
Soda Popinski = Super Macho Man
daaamn! fly like a butterfly sting like a bee!
Ramna Viaz its FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY STING LIKE A BEE
In Cars, it's "Float like a Cadillac, sting like a Beamer."
Man this game was fun back then lol
15:19 - I didn't know you could fight Patrick Star.
when i first saw the Bald Bull i was like" Holy Crap! Is that wat im gonna look like at 36??!!??"
Definitely attracting to Wii Sports boxing and attempting to defeat the Matt the defending champion!
Love how Vodka Dunkniski I mean Soda Popenski has Gannon’s laugh from the Legend of Zelda 2 Link’s Adventure.,
Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link
Hardest Zelda game I have played
Came here after finishing Deltarune chap 2, cool to this Punch out getting references in some way
At least in this one Tyson doesn't try and bite your ear off
If it did happen it would be an instant tko
Ko softlock
I always admire the crowd's cheer in this one.
15:19 my favourite theme xd
The soundtrack is really inspired by the scores of Bill Conti. I can imagine hearing them on Rocky movies
As soon as Mike winks he's punchin! lol
The falling down sound effects make me laugh every time
I forgot all about this game. Growing up this was the shit.I would stay up all night on the weekend trying to make it to tyson cause this thing had no way to save your progress. The good old days.
Albino G didnt this game have a password system?
Albino G , the code for Tyson was 007 373 5963
Nice playthrough, made it look a lot easier than it actually is.
empire obviously counterpunching tyson was the key
Am I the only one who was scared shitless by Mr. Sandman as a kid?
Jon-Erich Smith nope he was a scary character, for sure!
You're not alone!
***** I thought that sandman was sopposed give us good dreams not nightmares! D:
I love your profile pic btw
Lol
I like when you saved the 2 star punches against Mike, then used them for a knock-down. I’ve been unable to defeat the second Bald Bull, but I’m still trying.
