As long as you draw a map of the areas and throw holy water against blocks to uncover Dracula's notes, then it all falls into place. I'm sure someone has mentioned it already but the easiest way to defeat was Dracula was to stand in the doorway and equip yourself with the diamond. As you'd constantly attack with the flame whip, the diamond would bounce off of the concrete blocks and you'd be out of the harms way. This was the greatest Castlevania ever, especially the music!
The easiest I found was to actually attack using the golden knife. You can usually get Dracula pretty quickly with rapid shots and he never moves from his starting position!
Awesome memories! Believe it or not, but as a kid playing this game on NES, I managed to beat the entire game without the use of strategy guides or anything of the sort. For getting past the cliff with the cryptic-as-hell hint, somehow though some strange intuition, I decided to kneel down at that dead-end just to see if anything would happen...then to my surprise, that tornado came out of the blue and swept me to the other side! Seeing this game today gives me great nostalgia!
I remember playing this NES game as a part of the game pack cartridge on my Game Boy SP console as a kid back in the 2000s. I was struggling to play this game because I don't know what am I doing. I spent 2-3 hours of playing this game but failed to complete the whole thing. Bloody Tears was so freaking catchy to hear in this game. I still remember the music in my head for so many years.

if you just play this game without any tips or knowing anything in advance, it's pretty hard to figure out, like, what youre supposed to do at certain points. i mean it's alot of trial and error, to figure out that youre supposed to drop holy water to dip down to buy a chain whip. how the hell are you supposed to just discover that. you have to just play the game all the time to discover stuff by accident.

This is, and always will be, my favorite Castlevania game. This was the first CV game I ever played and I f'ing loved it. Sure, but I still like the fact that they did something new and different. Plus, this is my favorite version of Simon Belmont. Keep on gaming, gamer dudes!
I got this game for Christmas 1989. As an old geezer now, watching this brings back fond memories of playing NES on an old tube tv with my uncle lol. Thanks for posting!

Here’s basically how this game played out for me. Go to school: tell friend I can’t find Dracula’s castle. Tells me what to do at the cliff. Go home and try, get lost and still can’t find it. Go to school the next day, talk to friend again, go right after the tornado, not left dummy. Lol. I think my group of friends collectively beat this game together on the playground more than we each individually figured it out. It’s probably why I’m so forgiving towards its design today. This is a game that absolutely deserves a remake in the style of the other Castlevanias like Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin.
Waking up early on weekends 1. Turn the Nintendo on...2. Get the cereal and milk going. 3. Bringing it to the living room and that’s my whole day right there. Can’t stop won’t stop
This is what I do everytime I play this game: 1-Buy Holy water. 2-Save/grind 100 hearts and buy thorn whip in Jova. 3- Carefully make your way to Aldra and grind hearts off the two mobs between aldra and the Dead River. Make 250 hearts. For Morning star and White crystal. 3- After getting the hearts carefully make your way to Oldon. Kill every mobs using holy water and whip combination, since holy water slow mobs down briefly. 4-At Oldon buy the morning Star then buy the white crystal in Jova and the rest will be easier. If you do this right withouth dying and wasting time you will get the the items you need and good ending.
+si6ni6st6er I remembered the code by heart back in the day where I had all items and ready to take on Dracula. My friends could not believe that I remembered the code without having to look where I wrote it down. I played this game so much back then.
This one and Symphony of the Night are my two favorite Castlevania games ever. This was a popular game back in the day, not sure what many of the negative comments are about...
The most iconic track of the game, Bloody Tears, has made multiple appearances since in the series. Don't know all of them, though. Most recent hearing of it was in the Castlevania animated series.
I got this in 90 as a 10 year old used to piss me off till I found a friend that guided me thru it you have to do crap the right way u would never get far without help got to have the dam Red Crystal to advance kneel at the cliff 5 seconds all that crap then when I got to Draculas Castle no enemies
HA! Me neither! I always tok the wrong path, and/or was too impatient to figure out the "timing" on "enemies" and just went "hog-wild" into stages and didn't take my time... Too my credit, I WAS only 10 years old, when it was released/I got he game, so my "gaming skills" were not the greatest... Haha! The game was/is also very cryptic too like many have mentioned...
Man the first time I ever saw this game beat as a kid was when one of my brothers best friends spent the night one weekend and we stayed up playing. He was one of those Nintendo whiz kids and just knew all the secrets. During the Dracula bossfight, he just kept paralyzing Dracula and beat the dog shit out of him. The cpu never had the chance to fight back. I forget how he did it- maybe using the holy water or something. Don’t remember bc I personally sucked at this game. There was no way to just know everything in those times. But yea- was once of the more memorable Nintendo childhood memories for me.

This was a Christmas gift one year when I was a kid. I am of the minority opinion who loved the RPG mechanics. Even with the Nintendo Power map, I found the landmarks to be a bit cryptic haha!
Bought the Castlevania Collection just to play this! My childhood right here, even if, when I was a kid, I could never figure it out (as an adult who’s seen all the secrets, I can easily beat this in my sleep)!
This was the first game I beat on the NES when I was a kid. I must have been 7 or 8. Had to have Nintendo Power for the cryptic Nintendo BS. The last boss fight, I just threw down some sacred flames and Dracula just chills there then dies. Easiest final boss ever. This game, along with Megaman 2 had soundtracks that kick ass.
I really shouldn't be doing this, as it'll likely fall into several categories of trolling, but... xRavenXP's introductory comments/description were almost unreadable in a handful of places. Since there does seem to be a growing group of people online wanting improvements such as will follow...I redacted the comments, preserving as much of the original as I could: --------------------------------------- Played by: xRavenXP Longplay of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for the NES! It is the sequel of the first Castlevania, and despite Simon's Quest bringing over many elements from the first game, it also introduces new modes of gameplay, including exploration. Simon wondered if all the chaos caused by Dracula in the first Castlevania truly went away after his defeat. What he did not know was that Dracula put a curse on Simon before bringing Dracula down, and that he is slowly dying. An apparition that appears over the Belmont clan's burial grounds tells Simon that the only way to end the curse would be to resurrect Dracula and destroy him again. Beings that were still loyal to Dracula, however, divided his body into 5 parts and hid them throughout Transylvania. This version was the first to feature exploration, though it was poorly received and thought to be too difficult (not because of the enemies in the game, but because of the lack of a map and the ease of getting lost and not knowing what was where). Later Castlevania versions would feature exploration (Symphony of the Night, any of the GBA and Nintendo DS titles, for example) and came with maps to make playing easier. It's a good game, an epic soundtrack ("Bloody Tears" rules), yet it could still use a map. Done with the best ending (finished the game in less than 8 game days)
***** My brother and I both beat this game when we were kids ... without the use of Nintendo Power. Back then it was all about trial and error along with hours upon hours of free time used up in the pursuit of that almighty "You Win" screen. Beating Simon's Quest was certainly doable despite what followers of AVGN believe nowadays.
I was a little kid back then and I was able to beat it without too much trouble, that is, once I knew about the Red Crystal at that damn cliff. I always thought Castlevania 2 wasn't nearly as hard as a lot of games back then.
+SpiritOfBagheera so you figured that with a certain item selected pressing down on a spot for up tp 10 sec? how did you figured this out by yourself???????
+rev It took a lot of experimentation. But in those days, many Nintendo games were cryptic, Legend of Zelda among them. So when the phrase "kneel down" or "pray" (can't recall the exact wording) popped up? My younger brother and I kept trying different things at that cliff wall ... one of which was crouching for a while. Voila! Tornado transport!
SpiritOfBagheera niice ... i remeber trying and trying til the point that i stil remember certain fake blocks in dungeons after not playing the game for 20ish years .. but i didnt rreally understand english back then ... so i never got past those weird puzzles me and my brother always thought our cartrigde of the game mustve been broken or something :P
Good grief! I did not realize this game was that cryptic. I remember playing this when I was 7 years old, and for the life of me could not beat this.
"This game sucks."

this game sucks. me 2020
From nes 1&3 are good
Back in the days! When I was like 7!! I'm 35 now!! I think I still remember the code. Let's see 7M14 QTUV T51Z X0R5
+si6ni6st6er I remembered the code by heart back in the day where I had all items and ready to take on Dracula. My friends could not believe that I remembered the code without having to look where I wrote it down. I played this game so much back then.
+Ron Mower Maybe because you had Draculas Heart XD.

You now prossess Dracula's heart. 28:09
Sounds romantic. 😂😂😂
this game had my pants down for years as a kid. Don't think I ever beat it. thanks for the upload.
i never was able to beat this game
Same.
I got this in 90 as a 10 year old used to piss me off till I found a friend that guided me thru it you have to do crap the right way u would never get far without help got to have the dam Red Crystal to advance kneel at the cliff 5 seconds all that crap then when I got to Draculas Castle no enemies
Thank goodness when I played this I had The Power! Nintendo Power! lol
HA!
OH MAN! those were the days, yea! I had my monthly subscription too! So rad! :D
This soundtrack is ridiculously brilliant!
🙏Congratulations Castlevania II Simon's Quest!🙏
That old man is just hanging out in a cursed castle selling oaken stakes?
lol
Hahaha
Gotta make a living somehow.
The oak stake thing is dumb. Why can't they just have it so you can just take Dracula's remains?
I should add that I loved this game as a kid, got nothin 'gainst 'Vania 2
Man the first time I ever saw this game beat as a kid was when one of my brothers best friends spent the night one weekend and we stayed up playing. He was one of those Nintendo whiz kids and just knew all the secrets. During the Dracula bossfight, he just kept paralyzing Dracula and beat the dog shit out of him. The cpu never had the chance to fight back. I forget how he did it- maybe using the holy water or something. Don’t remember bc I personally sucked at this game. There was no way to just know everything in those times. But yea- was once of the more memorable Nintendo childhood memories for me.
Part of my childhood as far as video gaming goes ✌🏿
You left behind the sacred flame and the silk bag
And the diamond
La persona que estuvo haciendo esta demostración, es un experto y auténtico "gamer" más allá si el juego hoy en día no representa mucha dificultad.
Un 10 en este video
Has flame whip. Throws 17 holy waters on a two hit skeleton.
Oh man, the nostalgia in hearing the music man...
Fkn awesome
This was my very first game in my life other than Mario of course and I loved it.. Hours and hours playing
"You now prosesss Dracula's eyeball."
that was awesome, thanks for the nostalgia lol. I remember playing this in middle school, no internet, no Nintendo Power, just my friends and me brainstorming and figuring all this crap out. good times.+sub
Expertly played, sir, and nice job "processing" all those parts & pieces of Dracula...
Omg I spent a year of my life after school playing this.
This game is the unholy fuckness.
Prossession is 9/10ths of the law.
+thecowboy2 greatest comment ever
What prossessed you to say that?
wii1245 You appaer to be confused
Can't wait for my NES Classic console to come in and play this game. I never got to play it as a kid, always wanted to though, and now I know the secrets.
This game is one of my favorites of All Time
Best one of it's entire series
The music is Amazing
It took me a very long time to defeat it
I learned the cliff thing on total accident
Didn’t bother finishing this game
this game use to scare me as a child, all the music, details, in the night trying to wait for the game to be day time, my daughter also a few years ago hated to see me play so i had to play it when she was a sleep or at school but, now she got over it and she watchs me play.
I had this game as a kid I didn't know what at do at all and I didn't know the story of Castlevania. Thank you for the upload
esse vídeo me mostrou vários segredos que quando lançaram o jogo a gente quebrava a cabeça tentando passar as partes OBRIGADO AO CANAL JOGO ESPETACULAR MEU PREFERIDO GOSTEI DEMAIS MEUS PARABÉNS
vc é louco?
esse jogo é terrivel
Guys doing the music for this game are absolute geniuses.
This was a Christmas gift one year when I was a kid. I am of the minority opinion who loved the RPG mechanics. Even with the Nintendo Power map, I found the landmarks to be a bit cryptic haha!
Who knew holy water was strong enough to break through stone or bricks
Only through stone or bricks who are evil.
The Mansion music will forever be burned in to my brain....so fucking brilliant....whoever composed this gem is a fucking genius
this was the first open-ended castlevania which eventually would give birth to castlevania symphony of the night on playstation 1 a decade later.
Wrong. Vampire Killer was the first non linear Castlevania
38:45 i wonder why he doesnt Prossess the golden knife? They spelled it right?
I wouldve loved to see the kid from The Wizard try to beat this game
Without upgrading the whip!!
Some of the greatest video game music ever.
still love this game.
I love Simon's Quest so cryptic and ahead for the time night and day and open world
I really shouldn't be doing this, as it'll likely fall into several categories of trolling, but... xRavenXP's introductory comments/description were almost unreadable in a handful of places. Since there does seem to be a growing group of people online wanting improvements such as will follow...I redacted the comments, preserving as much of the original as I could:

Longplay of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for the NES! It is the sequel of the first
Castlevania, and despite Simon's Quest bringing over many elements from the first game, it also introduces new modes of gameplay, including exploration.
This and a few other games, defined me as the gamer I am today.
I remember when the music was good then turned to yodeling....1:05 then 2:18
Ah memories played the he'll out of this game. Never beat it though, it's quite a frustrating game when you're 9 years old.
SpiritOfBagheera niice ... i remeber trying and trying til the point that i stil remember certain fake blocks in dungeons after not playing the game for 20ish years ..
but i didnt rreally understand english back then ... so i never got past those weird puzzles
me and my brother always thought our cartrigde of the game mustve been broken or something :P
what an awsome night to watch this gmeplay :)
Good grief! I did not realize this game was that cryptic. I remember playing this when I was 7 years old, and for the life of me could not beat this. If I was not watching this video, I would have never knew this game had this many side quests. I guess they do not call this Simon's Quest for nothing lol.
This brought back some memories, thanks :)
The best soundtrack of any Castlevania game
I've always loved this game as a child and even now haha. Thanks for playing and can't wait to play it myself again :)
I loved this game as a kid. I will never forget how I stuck in this game for a couple of weeks at one point when you need to use garlic. 🧄
