    I've commented a few years ago, but i just have to say again. These retro reviews are just such a great escape to watch. looking back at all the old models i knew as a younger man and a kid. all the old cars I've ridden in and have fond memories of. its just straight up fun to see the motorweek reviews of them, there's no better way to see them in such detail and bring those memories back! I'm really appreciative of the MotorWeek team releasing their back catalogue for free on UA-cam.

    I don't know how the turbo version fared, but the regular 2.2L Legacy wagon was an excellent car. Solidly built, dependable, and nice driving. It was a better option than the Accord wagon, which had fewer cubic feet of cargo space than an Escort wagon of the time, and better overall quality and more standard power than the Camry wagon of the time. I loved the sound of that boxer engine. My stepmother had a '90 Legacy L wagon 5-speed. She drove nothing but Subarus back then when they were excellent cars. Nowadays, meh. This turbo version seems like it was rarer. For comparison, the '93 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon had a 2.3L turbo 4cyl. making 162hp and 189 lb-ft or torque. Very similar numbers to this Legacy Turbo. We had one in the family and I can confirm it was plenty of power for this size vehicle.

      The funny thing is, my 1991 Accord Wagon LX with the trick 4/5speed Automatic goes to 60mph in 8.6 seconds. It's completely stock, has the F22A1 and the transmission is essentially a 4-speed with two different overdrives depending on your driving mode(Making it a 5-speed technically). Mine has been maintained extremely well mechanically, but it has 211k miles on it. I seem to think they have this weird effect like fine wine as they age lol.

    I had a Rio Red '91 Sport sedan with the turbo 2.2L. I bought her in 1998. She had a second gear on her that went forever and all the torque on the planet. She died in 2017 after 19 years of being babied by me and jury-rigged by mechanic hubs when parts became difficult to find. I miss that car like a piece of my heart. I now drive an '04 Impreza WRX wagon, which I love, but it's just not quite the same. Still, I'll only ever drive Subarus for the rest of my life.

    I sold first gen Legacy sedans and wagons when i was between high school and college. Subaru really put a lot of effort into making those first gens very high quality cars that drove smoothly down potwhole-stricken New England winter roads and felt overall like they punched at a higher price class. I wish cars had cloth upholstery like many of these 90s subarus, camrys and accords. The 2.2 in the Subie wasn't a barn burner in non turbo form but motivated the car well enough, especially in the 5 speed versions. A great subaru for sure

    Subaru, time for a 30-year special anniversary model. I want a quick road-focused wagon, not a back road expeditionary one. Except, put the big turbo engine (FA24DIT) in it. Oh, then I guess yours have to call it the Legacy GT.

      I work for a Subaru dealer, I feel the last of the H6 outbacks were a lot better to drive than the 2.4T they replaced the flat 6 with. The torque felt a lot more apparent on the H6 over the turbo.

    • @82_KID
      @82_KID 7 місяців тому

      @@rturner4205 I think the H6 was awesome because it had what appeared to be the standard power rating for Japanese 6 across the board in the 90s which was about 212 forced power if I were called correctly. Might have been 220 might have been a touch over but I remember infinity Nissan had AV6 that was about 220 the Subaru H6 was rated for again about 210 or 212 or 220.. That was more than the 1 60 54 the fourth cylinder which was more than any Honda . I really like the luxury package on my LL mean it had 2 sunroofs... A lot of people say that the extra 300 pounds or so offset any performance improvements but your right the H6 was a lot smoother. Having had to replace it in mind I know that the engine code in a 2002 is EZ30D vs EJ251 in mine and EJ22 The 22 indicates 2.2 l of displacement I was not aware they had a turbo charge model in 1993 but I'm really interested in a car like this now. The H6 was as smooth as butter and leather all around in the LL Bean packe. 2009 Was the last year for that collaboration wasn't it? On the third generation outback?
