People worried BMW would kill off the R bikes when they came out with the K line in the 1980s. Both are still going strong today. Indian is smart to branch out from air-cooled V-twin heavy cruisers into other segments. Call it the Victory-ization of Indian. It's smart business and will allow them to capture more market share, especially from riders who don't want to buy power plants based on century-old technology.
Great vid, no hate but I for one moved from Harley to an Indian, all it took was a test ride. I still love Harley's and the history but......I really love my Indian.
Trunk and lowers are a must and I will trade my Road Glide in a heartbeat! 120 hp stock ? Just think add a cam and be well over 120 hp. That’s my kind of touring bike.
Was just out breaking in my new Scout. Passed a couple of HD riders gave the biker wave once they saw the Scout it was a drive by. Screw those guys least do they know I also have a 03 Road King.. 🇺🇲🍺👽👍
Sorry, but grown men getting so bent out of shape over a wave of the hand, I will never get it. It's absolutely foolish. I'll be truthful, I don't wave at anyone unless I happen to cross paths with them and I know them. I don't care if they are riding an Indian, HD, Kawasaki, Honda, etc... if I don't know them, I'm not waving. I drive an Impala, I don't honk and wave at every single Impala driver I see, and then get butt hurt if they don't do the same back. I couldn't care less about a "brotherhood", I'm not in a club so I have no "brothers" other than my real one. For guys who are in a subculture that tries to portray themselves as bad asses, many of them sure get offended by the dumbest of things. Ride safe. By the way, great video... I'm really looking forward to seeing this bike.
@@Ken-xv4sb Hey Ken not really bent out shape. It's a common thing to wave out here in rural VA. I work on a ferry where we move hundreds of cars, bikes and trucks so just being friendly or part of customer relations the wave just happens. Oh well no biggie. Ride safe and practice.🇺🇲
Same thoughts on the fender. The full fender thing is an Indian-ism. Kinda like the Indian Red. But the War Bonnet on the Challenger does look right at home.
There was a recently released Indian promotional photo with a Scout and Challenger in the background and from what you can see of the front half of the bike it looks Great! Auto correct gave that great a capital G and I'm leaving it as that's how good it looked!
This is going to be interesting and I think you covered pretty much what this will be. A direct "Challenger" to the Road Glide. Of course, design is always very personal and what some might love, others might hate. I have never been a fan of the Road Glide. It looks like a front heavy cyclops to me. Not sure if this new Indian will have that or if their headlight design will correct that in my eyes. I also agree with you, I hope they don't simply replace the 111. It's such a beautiful piece of jewelry. Pure artwork. Nice vid
I'm in love with the concept of this bike. About a month before I heard about "Raptor" I commented on one of Indian's Facebook posts, telling them they needed to forget competing with the M8 and develop a water-cooled motor, they also needed a frame-mounted ferring with all the tools, toys and tech of the Chieftain to come out swinging at both the Road Glide and the Goldwing. If the Sport mode on the 2019 Chieftains taught us anything, they need traction control that we can turn on and off too. Might as well put all of those into one bike. They must have obviously been in development on the "Raptor" at that point already. It's just too bad that they decided to compete with the RG with panniers that look like they stole them off an RG, instead of the Chieftain. It's also too bad that they aren't original enough to think of a name they aren't ripping off of Ford (Raptor) or Dodge (Challenger). Or, maybe it was named after the ill-fated space shuttle. Seriously Indian? Do better.
This bike was in the works for Victory years ago to replace the cross bikes, Polaris wasn't going to waste it. It may be their best change to win back some of the Victory owners.
I have a 14 victory cross country and i still prefer that over a harley street glide. Im interested in the the new Indians either a cheiftain darkhorse with the 116 or the challenger with the new liquid cooled motor.. i like the direction indian is going
I’m not crazy about the frame mounted fairing so it’s not for me. I get the need for such a bike because indian doesn’t offer one. I would like to see this motor go into other platforms also. The 111 isn’t going anywhere, indian is redesigning it to make it emissions compliant with the EU and EPA. If I can find the article I’ll post it in this comment.
Have a 2016 scout love it and love power was thinking about a bigger indian think i'll wait till they get that bad boy water cooled motor sounds like my dream bike
Apparently the 111 will be no more in the touring bikes...they will now all be the 116 stock but with smaller cams than the stage 3 kit. Also, they are coming out with performance hi-flow heads for it...that could mean a naaaasty stage 4 kit for the 111? The Thunderstroke is also getting Variable Valve Timing either next year or the year after. They'll be able to keep up with emissions requirements and it may even add more power being able to change cam timing on the fly. There will be no outward cues that it has VVT...the phaser will be inside the cam cover it currently has.
Cool riding, very nice. Not much info in the video if I'm honest but no harm in watching when there's nothing else going on. Another UA-camr posted his story of living with one Indian then a second over about 3 years and eventually giving up on the brand, due to the level of finish being so poor that corrosion problems on these very expensive machines were constant, breaking his heart and he could see them depreciating with every passing year. He replaced his second Indian with a Goldwing and said it's the best thing he's ever done! Have you any thoughts on the poor finish and rust problems on relatively new Indians?
I would change the name. Challenger sounds like it's going to explode 73 seconds after you launch from that green light. Not a good legacy for a space-age looking motorcycle.
Bring Back the Victory Line! I like the Indian, but man, I really like my 8 Ball!!!
That’s what they need another bagger. Why not make a bike to compete with the softails?
Update: Indian have said they intend to sell this bike as a compliment to the Chieftain line and is not intended to replace it!
Let's hope that lasts.
Won't be at surgis either.
Definitely. We still want the Chieftain!

K in-line 4 is no more.....
If Indian will offer the proper touring package with that bike, I would trade in my Ultra limited for sure!
Exactly! They need a touring package that will make it Challenge the Goldwing.

rumor is that the 116 thunderstroke is going to be the new "stock" thunderstroke motor, replacing the 111.

Many thanks, sir!
I'm definitely interested in this one myself for its out of the box power.

@@thebob6385 Totally agree with the name, completely unoriginal. Could be worse I suppose. Could be called the Indian Sturgis 😣

It not the original article I saw but it says the same thing.

Like the headlight. They need a small cc entry level bike
100% agree. Would love a small single cyl from them, if even just for the global market!
Liked the Video, hope Indian is watching, the idea of having the 108 and the Thunderstroke is great. But hope they do not lose the 111. Love mine.

Looks like the Thunderstroke is getting an update with VVT
I love my Street Glide S , but Indian is killing it
Glad you love it!
Can't wait to see it...

Never had any issues myself so I'm not worried.
Really like what I see. Loved the name of the engine.
Great video...that dirt smudge on the camera lense though urg lol

Agreed
Indian is just a more expensive Harley
