in the real world, 100% of the battery range is only important for a long trip, where you can push through to the next stop, or it allows you to have shorter recharge stops. Irrelevant innormal day to day driving, when you can charge as needed for the next day or two. Therefore, it is relevant to have a longer range available, even if you only use that on ocassion.

They love them in here China. They are everywhere and so practical with lots of space. A great SUV that sells because it is food at everything and yes LFP have the total range not the range minus 10%. They are a fantastic. I think 615km is good range for a big 4wd with all this power - and it is the real range.
@@Harakai100 Yes...But WLTP is not real range either with non LFP batteries. You need to keep at least 100km otherwise battery issue. So I suppose the NEDC of LFP is the same as the WLTP of non LFP.
@@9kilsyth It has literally nothing to do with the chemistry. A battery holds whichever amount of usable energy that it holds. That divided by efficiency gives you range. The only factor that matters outside of that is energy lost to resistance in the pack due to cold weather, in which case LFP loses more range than NCA or NCM because lower energy density means more mass that needs to be heated to maintain a warm battery. WLTP is not real world range. EPA is not real world range. However, NEDC is by far the most unrealistic measurement of them all. NEDC = Not Even Damn Close, and again, chemistry has nothing to do with it. It's all about energy in the pack divided by efficiency, and LFP holds less energy than NCA/NCM. Why do you think Tesla uses LFP for standard range and NCA for long range?
@@Harakai100 LFP batteries do have issues in the cold, but that has been solved. Go to CATL, which produce self-heating battery modules. If an LFP battery holds 100kw all of it can be used all of the time - charged to 100%, unlike my Tesla Model S. If I try and charge it to 90% it warns me I will get battery degradation- so 10% is not usable. NIO and BYD LFP batteries can be charged 100% all the time with no issues are safer and last much longer. Lower density but 100% accessible all the time. I am selling my Model S and getting an NIO ET7 next month so then I will be able to tell the difference from experience.
@@9kilsyth ohhh now I see what you're trying to say. There is no problem in charging to 100% before you leave on a trip, but yeah, you want to limit charging to 90% or lower for daily driving. I charge my model 3 to 70% on a daily cause I don't need more range, then I charge to 100% just before I leave on a roadtrip. That yields no problems and no warning. Of course an LFP pack will have less degradation no matter how you treat it because LFP is a very robust chemistry
The BYD Han EV on sale in LAOS my country costs 62000 USD perhaps the highest price in the world for this model. There is no Tang EV on sale yet except the petrol engine model for around 40000 USD.
I can't wait til I pay off the Atto 3.... As soon as the Atto 3 is paid off I will purchase a BYD 7 Seater Tang full premium option with the biggest battery possible....all I can say is Bring it ON in Australia.
I love the proud dad thing. Well done. Note to self - buy a Tang one day, if they come in anything but grey. Only 330 Nm? Must be a mistake. FYI- crackle noise in the background. And the echo is still there.
The car looks remarkably similar in looks to my 2018 Rav4 Ltd. I'm not understanding why the prices are so high, I see few takers in N.America frankly!
500.000 and still 60% garanteed . . . In the real world, when you cant charge over 80% and better not go below 20%, those Lithium Nickel/Cobald/Mangenese batteries start with that 60% range 🤣. We work with LFP batteries since 2015 and they are perfect.
The warranty is on a car by car basis and what country it's selling in, For eg., the E6 that was only imported in small no's into Australia did have a 500 kms warranty for the battery, which is why Sam refers to this, however the Atto 3 is 160 kms or 7 years. In S America the warranty is 500 kms and 8 years, so it looks to be an Aussie thing. 160,000 km is the same as the competitors.
@@Sam_BS_Electric Sorry Paul wrong again! MG is 7 years unlimited km on both the car and the battery, the rest are the same 160,000km but 8 years with Toyota hybrid batteries getting 10 years.
Hi Sam can we please get down to the different between what BYD say 500’000 km on battery to 60 % and Newports 7 year 160,000 I’m still a big BYD supporter and most likely get a Dolphin But I don’t what to be saying to people one thing and it’s Another
‘Manufacturers advise you not to charge to 100%’....Not true Sam. The handbook in my Kia e-Niro recommends charging to 100% once a month if you don’t need to start your journey at 100% anyway. The reason for this is to let the BMS take a look across all the cells to see that they can charge to their maximum voltage in order to deliver the quoted capacity of 64 kWh (in the case of my car). In fact the battery capacity is 67.5 kWh, which indicates that the cell voltage maximum is never reached on the ‘virtual’ 64 Kwh capacity. In 3 years and 58,000 km of driving the car I have only ever charged to 100% on AC chargers, I have never charged to 100% on a DC rapid charger. The car has only gone below 20% on half a dozen occasions, lowest ever was 9% on our way back from a long trip. Our typical weekly charge is to 80%, starting off at anything from 25% to 40% depending on how much driving we’ve done in the week. We always charge to 100% at home before setting off on a long trip where we will be using DC rapids, that’s just sensible. With this regime I expect the battery to last as long as the car, LFP may be the way forward but for all practical purposes NMC chemistry is a durable as most people would ever need.
That looks like $67k nz. If the government rebate applies, I'd put it on my "definite possible" short list. But will need my Chinese Mrs driving it and pass her approval.
Tang has not sold as well in Norway due to 50% mark up, while Nio has the same or lower price in Norway as they have in China. So the Importer of BYD has 300 Tang in stock that sell poorly, and now comes increased competition from Voyah Free which will sell directly to customers, and if they do as Nio and sell the car Free at the same price in Norway as in China, it will be next n impossible to sell Tang in Norway at the price they have today. On February 17, Voyah officially announced it would enter the EU market with its first EV called Free. The first cars will arrive in Norway in June 2022. At the same time, the first Voyah overseas store will open in the center of Oslo, the capital of Norway. The deliveries will start in Q4 2022. After that, Voyah will enter other European countries and broader their product line.
Nonsense. BYD are selling very well. The mark up is closer to 30%. The Tang is sold at least 15k Euros cheaper than their nearest competitor and cheaper than the NIO. As of today the Tang is ranked 22nd, NIO 27 (Tang with 64 deliveries so far this month, compared to NIO's 45 ) BYD imported 1,000 and then an additional 500. From mid September last year to mid December they sold all of the first 1,000 and are now half way through delivering the remaining cars, which were confirmed as sold earlier this month. The next batch of Tang are nor due to be delivered until later this year and we expect that to be the new version. You are correct that NIO is selling the same price in China, but they can do that because in China they only sell in a niche market at a very high price for China, and only sell around 1-2 thousand a month. The Tang however sells around 8-10 thousand and is much more competitive. The Tang as I said is very competitively priced in Norway and is already sold out, only a few hundred left to be delivered.
@@Sam_BS_Electric Last autumn, the importer of BYD said that he would quit his job if he did not sell the 1,500 cars he had ordered during 2021, and that the price of Tang would increase on 1 January 2022. None of this has happened. So far this year (22.02.2022) they have only sold a total of 1227 cars since launch, and 47 of them are on sale as demo cars. The price in China was on the top model of Tang is t $ 48,600 with 13% VAT, so without VAT and subsidies of $ 2800 (last year) the price in China is $ 45800, in Norway there is no VAT, so the mark up is about $ 22700 or about NOK 205,000. ie about 50% mark up. You are clearly comparing BYD, which is China's answer to Opel, with German permeium brands, when you talk about "a lot of value for the money". My claim about BYD in Norway with this price strategy, they only sell in a niche market at a very high price in Norway , and only sell around 10-20 a month.
@@troll6861 BYD says that the market response for the Tang EV has exceeded all expectations in Norway. On 20 December 2021, the company delivered the 1,000th unit of the electric SUV to its customer in the country. Along with its local distributor RSA, the Chinese auto company has a network of 44 BYD dealers in Norway. The first batch of the 100 BYD Tang EVs reached Norway’s Drammen port from China on 24 July 2021, and customer deliveries began on 12 August 2021. On 22 September, via an Instagram post, the company said that it had shipped more than 1,000 units and is closing in on its target of 1,500 deliveries by the end of 2021 in the land of the midnight sun. BYD then updated that it had sold out the second batch of the Tang EV in Norway. Customers placing an order now will have to wait until new shipments. BYD underlines that the feedback about the Tang is very positive. The Tang, in a well-equipped version, costs 599,900 NOK (€59,667/$67,633). RSA provides sales, aftersales, parts and service support to BYD Tang customers through a network of 43 sites in Norway. "The pure-electric all-wheel-drive BYD Tang SUV is gaining widespread recognition in Norway with positive feedback from customers, and the motoring industry alike. The family-sized, zero-emission SUV encapsulates the perfect blend of space, performance, design and driving range." Frank Dunvold, CEO of RSA, said: “We have enjoyed fantastic demand for the BYD Tang in just a few months since its launch, and we see this escalating at pace in 2022. The people of Norway are very environmentally conscious, and the pure-electric zero-emission Tang SUV is the perfect fit. It is stylish, comfortable and offers great driving performance, while being practical too. We don’t see demand slowing down and we are fortunate to have good levels of supply coming through, which means customers are not having to wait for extended periods of time for delivery.” Michael Shu, Managing Director, BYD Europe, said: “We are delighted with the positive customer reaction to the Tang, our very first electric passenger car sold in Norway. We always listen to customers and the feedback has been superb. Our goal is to continually exceed customer expectations, so we are truly motivated and inspired by the results achieved in the first four months of sale. The Tang features BYD’s very latest innovation in ultrasafe, high-performance battery technology stemming from our long-established world-leading expertise in this field. Our Blade Battery is a real game-changer for the industry and this, along with the use of BYD’s highly advanced integrated electronic technology, makes the Tang stand out in the pure-electric SUV market.”
@@Sam_BS_Electric Yes they are good cars (I like Opel too), and they sold well in the beginning they were alone with an SUV with room for 7, but now have increased competition from Nio Es8 and and Hongqi e-hs9, who both sell their cars cheaper in Norway than China, then it is not sustainable over time to add 50% to the price, which is the case with Tang, increased competition from new Chinese brands such as Voyah Free which is better than Tang in almost all areas makes this impossible
It must be an Australian thing. In S America it's 500 kms and 8 years. 160,000 kms is in line with the other models available in Australia. Unless you drive over 22,000 kms a year, it really makes no difference.
How many cars are you going to buy? Anyway - doesn't it depend on your needs if this is perfect? If you need a truck I guess it won't work. If you need a camper van; probably no good. Need a car that will work for long distance driving.. may not fit. I think you've said you've ordered about 4 cars so far.
People don't want PRC brands because of (1) poor build quality, (2) the lack of a dealer network and (3) because these tofu cars come with extreme depreciation.
Go away. The sub 35K car you keep going on about will be the Dolphin. They announced the product change, so i don't know why you keep going on about the price.
@@pastorofmuppets8834 No. I just keep seeing your silly posts about the price being more. The specs are much higher hence the price. Plus the market has changed. Get over it. I guarantee you couldn't afford 35k anyway.
Are you referring to the demonstration unit that is just a chassis with battery, wheels and motors that is often shown in videos? If so, I assume the wave-like hump was added (and every second individual blade within the overall battery pack removed) to permit 360-degree inspection by curious people. I assume the battery pack in a real car would not have the hump.
When you look at the specs and you think how much cheaper and better LFPs are, so long as the volume can be ramped up, no-one is going to be buying an ICE SUV once these babies are out there on the market.
I always laugh at the 7 seat option as sure you can carry 7 people but where do you put all there gear? As the boot on most 7 seaters become practically useless!
Tesla’s battery warranty guarantees 70% capacity for 8 years or 100,000-150,000 miles (depending on the model), with no restrictions on maximum charging or minimum discharging.
viking keep saying about the benefit of charging lfp batteries to 100% but the down side his missing out is the much longer time it takes to charge from 80% to 100%.
I see its Norwegian price of the Tang, it is very expensive. I also compared some Chinese EVs between Mainland China prices and Thailand prices, to finding the price of Tang if it become available in Thailand. I predict the price of Tang is about 2.2-2.5 million baht, or as same as Norwegian price, for profit of seller(s) it can't be lower than 2 million baht, that is much more expensive than Toyota Fortuner or even Toyota bZ4X, so it is unlikely to become available in Thailand.
In Norway the Tang is at least 15 euros cheaper than its nearest competition. In Thailand It will depend on the import tax and if the government will levy what they do on imported ICE cars. The Ora they didn't implement the ICE tax rate, but I guess it will be on a case by case basis.
A decent imported car in Thailand like a mercedes has a 300% import tax, i know because I bought a mercedes 350 AMG ICE car there about 4 years ago now for about 3 mio Bhat. If they drop the import tax, it will be cheaper than a good legacy brand.
@@Sam_BS_Electric It's a good price for it's size and spec in Norway, but due to it being an "unknown" brand it is still too expensive. Especially when compared to price in China. There's no import tax, so it's just greedy resellers. And it shows, it doesn't sell anywhere close to what was predicted here. (The main import dude said he would quit his job if they didn't sell out the first batch of 1500 cars within 2021, and they didn't even sell 1000).
Wish people would stop saying charging to 100 and discharging to 0 does no damage to LFP it does less and as you have 4 times the cycles on top so there are saying there's no damage because it will last 10 -15 with you abusing it but if you looked after it that would be 20 to 30 years
40% drop for a battery you can supposedly charge any way you like doesn't impress, that's almost half your battery gone!? that's almost a boast they shouldn't have telegraphed... a Tesla had 98% after 4years and 100,000 miles... just sayin'
USA perspective…I’d stick with the Tesla M-Y unless the few $K more makes it just impossible. The Tesla has the supercharger network, unassailable safety, and features including possible future FSD this thing can’t touch. 🤷♂️
Now come on Sam, the REAL EV you want is not the BYD Tang. Or any BYD model. Or even the high-end NIO crossover. The real one you dearly love to get (not buy) is the Human Horizons HiPhi X or HiPhi Z. I think the HiPhi Z, which will be released in a few months, will match up your handsome look in a picture perfectly. You will become a famous star overnight. OK joke aside, the BYD Tang is most fantastic upper mid-size electric SUV in the entire world. For that price, you get the amazing Blade 'indestructible' battery with 700 km range. You get dual big motors, great ride. And you get all the fancy high tech electronics that only come from China. Any other OEM who try to make a Tang, if they can, must price it at least 25% just to breakeven. But none can because none have Blade. The Tesla X is priced at least twice that of the Tang but offer less. You must switch your Atto3 order to Tang immediately when available Down Under. BTW, are you not afraid of driving a Chinese car in Aussie land? Your politicians hate China to the max. Because China show Australia what a failed state your ruling class have turned the country into.
@@willjames915 It is recognized widely that Aussie people in their long residence and dealings in Asia Pacific do get along pretty OK despite drastic difference in race and culture. But the ruling class of Australia, the direct descendents of the British upper/ruling class is entirely different. They colonized the vast continent island halfway around the world by force of military power only 200 years ago. Consider themselves the more righteous and superior race than the several thousand years of Asian civilization. Determined not to mix. When the English began their occupation of the big island, China began its decline due in large part to the British empire wars on them. Therefore they have never seen a powerful, majestic China for several generations. All they know is the British empire defeated China. When modern China rose far beyond the British, all Europeans, matching even the Americans on all fronts. one can understand the Aussie ruling class go into psychological, behaviorial and physical convulsion. They have become a gang of rats stuck in their own rat hole, trembling and occcasionally lash out. Not too different from their British master. This state of affairs will continue until the Aussie upper class peter out, drained. They will never change, but will simply disappear. Let's hope in about a decade's time, when China become 150% of U.S.A., a new generation of Aussie will arrive and come to term with reality. And discover what it was like when their ancestors were back in 1600, nobody and being kicked around like dogs in Europe, while China was master of the universe.
Buying a car that you are not want is not a good thing. Downgrading from BMW to BYD may affect Sam's CEO image (if Growthworx Australia is still doing business).
those basic specifications may not mean much... it may have a big battery and said to have a decent range, but does it have a good cooling/heating system preferably a high efficiency heat pump for batteries? can I rely it on -28C and +45C ?? LFP batteries are terrible at cold weather without well designed and extensively tested heating/cooling systems. Is every subsystem in car can be reached by a central control system? so can BYD really solve some problems with over the air updates? my wife has a passat and it's car computer has a terrible of terrible UI, with no updates. And It connects to anybody's phone, it is a time consuming pain in the ass to setup things every time we get into it, still couldn't get used to after a year... My reference is Model3 and model Y... every new EV should be compared to those two...
The Tang (old one) of course has thermal management. In the biggest ever cold weather test in Norway the blade lost 11%, tesla model 3 was runner up only slightly worse 11.05,, model Y was down the pack.
to much money. When are these companies going to get it through their heads you cant sell something over 35 US and expect it to sell in big numbers. We need that car and the sooner someone builds it the better. They will crush the market. Its obvious that no one seems to want to do this.
BYD cannot decide by itself to go to a country they choose, like Australia. I bet you need to get someone inside Australia who wants to deal with them and get the permits to do it. You will never get it by just praying. With the recent political problems between the two countries, I can see a lot more obstacles for them to sell it in Australia than car brand from the western block. I think the North American and European markets are more important for them. Even there, they also face political obstacles. Fortunately, China is now the biggest car market in the world.

Till they start on fire, almost a perfect score for doing so. Good luck mate.
Finally, a car that many Australians can use as the primary vehicle. Great news, and yes I will take one asap
The solar panels on Tesla Texas are pointed west. Shouldn't they be pointed south?
I love the proud dad thing. Well done. Note to self - buy a Tang one day, if they come in anything but grey. Only 330 Nm? Must be a mistake. FYI- crackle noise in the background. And the echo is still there.
That’s a bold comment “nearly perfect EV”
2022 Tang is 2,965 kg or 6217 lbs of "nearly perfect EV"
Does it come with a towbar?
Tang EV was introduced in 2018 in China.
This is the 2022 model.
My dream car! ( it suits my needs & the one that I actually can afford it )
Yes please. 4WD and tow bar.
Yes. Looks perfect.
I would like to buy a. Upgraded version of BYD Tang 7 seaters.
Who's Voya?
The car looks remarkably similar in looks to my 2018 Rav4 Ltd. I'm not understanding why the prices are so high, I see few takers in N.America frankly!
Yes I would love to have a Tang. Most likely wont be in the USA this year,
I’d consider it for a daily driver replacement
500.000 and still 60% garanteed . . . In the real world, when you cant charge over 80% and better not go below 20%, those Lithium Nickel/Cobald/Mangenese batteries start with that 60% range 🤣.
We work with LFP batteries since 2015 and they are perfect.
Sam, please be truthful about battery warranty.
Is the 2022 Tang really 2,965 kg/6217 lbs?
Y X
4,555 lbs 5,390 lbs
3 starts at 3,648 lbs
for comparison
Sam, I bet that you can drive the Atto until the Tang get there and then since it's limited production, sell it for what you paid for it.
Hi Sam can we please get down to the different between what BYD say 500’000 km on battery to 60 % and Newports 7 year 160,000 I’m still a big BYD supporter and most likely get a Dolphin
But I don’t what to be saying to people one thing and it’s Another
‘Manufacturers advise you not to charge to 100%’....Not true Sam.
Looks like good value for money. But by the time it is released in Australia, I might be too old to drive. 😊
Want one in the US!
As of today the Tang is ranked 22nd, NIO 27 (Tang with 64 deliveries so far this month, compared to NIO's 45 )
BYD imported 1,000 and then an additional 500.
@@Sam_BS_Electric
Last autumn, the importer of BYD said that he would quit his job if he did not sell the 1,500 cars he had ordered during 2021, and that the price of Tang would increase on 1 January 2022.
The family-sized, zero-emission SUV encapsulates the perfect blend of space, performance, design and driving range."
Frank Dunvold, CEO of RSA, said:
“We have enjoyed fantastic demand for the BYD Tang in just a few months since its launch, and we see this escalating at pace in 2022. The people of Norway are very environmentally conscious, and the pure-electric zero-emission Tang SUV is the perfect fit. It is stylish, comfortable and offers great driving performance, while being practical too. We don’t see demand slowing down and we are fortunate to have good levels of supply coming through, which means customers are not having to wait for extended periods of time for delivery.”
Michael Shu, Managing Director, BYD Europe, said:
“We are delighted with the positive customer reaction to the Tang, our very first electric passenger car sold in Norway.
Seems quite well received to me.
Judging by what happened to the Atto3 price the Tang will be ball park $100k if it came down under.
The atto 3 is about 30% higher than the equivalent model in China, so on that basis it would be priced Usd 63k
@@Sam_BS_Electric Or AU$87,000 which is not that far from $100k!
Why is the Atto 3 battery warranty only 160,000 km?
It must be an Australian thing. In S America it's 500 kms and 8 years. 160,000 kms is in line with the other models available in Australia. Unless you drive over 22,000 kms a year, it really makes no difference.
@@Sam_BS_Electric The 7 year part does, I would much prefer an extra year or even 3 in Toyota case than 7 that the Atto has
I believe Toyota announced 1 million km warranty with no less than 90% capacity. If you check it every year at a dealership.
I still have not see any Toyota EV's on the road... 🤨
Current hybrid Toyota get a 10 year 160,000km and even in 10 years most will not drive even 160,000km

Yes. There are photos in Norway of the Tang charging at a Tesla Supercharging station.

the tang is about the size of bmw x5, with much better tech.
Why do Blade batteries have a wave like hump ? 😂
Are you referring to the demonstration unit that is just a chassis with battery, wheels and motors that is often shown in videos? If so, I assume the wave-like hump was added (and every second individual blade within the overall battery pack removed) to permit 360-degree inspection by curious people. When you look at the specs and you think how much cheaper and better LFPs are, so long as the volume can be ramped up, no-one is going to be buying an ICE SUV once these babies are out there on the market.
After 2025 No one want to buy a ICE car... 😄👍
That blue one is much better looking than those being loaded on the ship. The big grille of the old design is super ugly.
BYD can have my money if they release a 7 seater version.
Tang is a 7 seat SUV (2/3/2) but its third row is considered too small.

Who cares about 10% loss of range when you've got the entire 100% capacity of the battery available.
How much rigidity does the Byd Tang have with that battery design have vs. the Tesla with the 4680 design with its honey-comb design?
The Blade is structural.
We'll see if China ever sells any of these cars in Canada :(

@@Sam_BS_Electric Well they better hurry up as soon Ora EV will be built in Thailand which will mean a very cheap EV for the local market!

Wish people would stop saying charging to 100 and discharging to 0 does no damage to LFP it does less and as you have 4 times the cycles on top so there are saying there's no damage because it will last 10 -15 with you abusing it but if you looked after it that would be 20 to 30 years
This is really bad news for the ID.4

40% drop for a battery you can supposedly charge any way you like doesn't impress, that's almost half your battery gone!? that's almost a boast they shouldn't have telegraphed... a Tesla had 98% after 4years and 100,000 miles... just sayin'
Tang=唐

All they know is the British empire defeated China. those basic specifications may not mean much... it may have a big battery and said to have a decent range, but does it have a good cooling/heating system preferably a high efficiency heat pump for batteries? can I rely it on -28C and +45C ?? LFP batteries are terrible at cold weather without well designed and extensively tested heating/cooling systems. Is every subsystem in car can be reached by a central control system? so can BYD really solve some problems with over the air updates? my wife has a passat and it's car computer has a terrible of terrible UI, with no updates. And It connects to anybody's phone, it is a time consuming pain in the ass to setup things every time we get into it, still couldn't get used to after a year... to much money. When are these companies going to get it through their heads you cant sell something over 35 US and expect it to sell in big numbers. We need that car and the sooner someone builds it the better. They will crush the market. Its obvious that no one seems to want to do this.
BYD have just released the Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) for under 35 US?
BYD cannot decide by itself to go to a country they choose, like Australia. I bet you need to get someone inside Australia who wants to deal with them and get the permits to do it. You will never get it by just praying. With the recent political problems between the two countries, I can see a lot more obstacles for them to sell it in Australia than car brand from the western block. I think the North American and European markets are more important for them. Even there, they also face political obstacles. Fortunately, China is now the biggest car market in the world.
