It’s a pity you do not care so much about interiors… there is a lot of innovations and uniqueness inside that this car. If a brand takes some risks in terms of design, some likes to turn it down and if they think conservative … well the same! so you cannot please everybody, but you can try to be different and recognizable in a cute and original way. Well done BYD!
I’ll preface this by saying I’ve seen the demo car in person. Most of the innovations I didn’t mind but the air vents, rather than looking innovative, looked cheap and plasticky with the centre one being too low to be practical, and the material on the dash looked like it was just going to be a dirt catcher (it’s soft but kind of velour like). The instrument binnacle just looked like an afterthought - too small and didn’t seem to fit the rest of the design at all. I almost would have preferred if they had gone the Model 3 route and left it out altogether and saved a couple of hundred dollars. I loved the rotating screen, the centre console was good, the red strings OK, not sure how they’ll stand up to wear and tear, the seats looked great, the door handles were fine but I wasn’t a fan of having things stick out of the door outside of the door card and the sun roof seemed excellent. But to say this is an interior design coup or even cute is overstating the case. It’s interesting, a little bit niche, mixed with a touch of impractical. At the pricepoint I think it’s above average but I would worry about wear and tear over 10 years of family use.

The Atto 3 supports V2L, which would allow you to syphon off some electrons to another car if it's out of charge. The V2L output is only 2.5KW though, so it's going o take a while ;-)
Easiest way to charge any EV stuck on the side of the road with low charge is to tow it and use regen to charge the battery. Then EV or ICE car can be used for charging.
@@danielmulder1999 Regen isn't capable of generating that much energy. I know for sure that in other European countries, they have vans with generators inside to charge the vehicle to enough juice to get to the next charging station. This is what I think would be the best way

I think byd will be huge in the futures. Thats why 75% of my investment is in BYDDY and 25% in LIT the battery index that is the only way we can invest here in US in fantastic companies like CATL and others from China and arround the world.
Without a brand awareness, BYD will need to gain a foothold in Western markets by building decent cars but at significantly cheaper prices than legacy OEM's......and that's exactly what they will do.
Japan started the "everything standard" no accessories pitch because it cut down inventory and erased the month long ocean trip to the US. I still know southern drivers who resent paying for the rear defroster, and New Englanders who don't enjoy $800 for air conditioning. We've also had many incidents of glass moonroofs simply shattering, and hooligans throwing concrete blocks down at them from overpasses. Most of which now have high security fences over the roadways now. So having everything standard? That's nice, but it is like buying a suit off the rack, as opposed to a bespoke tailored one. There's reason for both.
Hello - can anyone tell me if BYD and Neta...and other Chinese manufacturers incorporating an effective battery management system? unlike the Nissan Leaf?
The ORA GoodCat customers in Thailand have been promised Apple Carplay and Android Auto but have yet to fulfill that promise. It's pretty egregious to promise a feature will be added later and then continually delay. Why is it some of the Chinese auto makers seem to have difficulty working out these agreements with Apple and Google?
@@gadgetgasspoll2923 Errm you can't because the the OS is Chinese developed, and will not support Google Play Store unless you Jailbreak it. I don't think it would be a wise idea to hack a system designed that controls your AEB etc.
You have to understand in the Chinese Car market manufactures have been moving away from mirroring phones on infotainment screen. They used to a few years ago be big on Baidu Auto (basically Android Auto like) But the recent trend is for OEMs to focus on their own UI & app integration, rather than go the route of simple mirroring peoples smartphones Some claim that it allows their vehicles to have more unique features rather than the same android auto/CarPlay.
@@ChinaDriven I think the consumers are appreciating Apple Carplay or Android Auto. People have their "lives" all wrapped up in their mobile phones. Apps, maps, and everything they do is on their mobile phones. Having a completely separate operating system that duplicates (but not quite) what people already have is unnecessary. It seems the trend is to forget new infotainment systems and just have a bigger screen of your phone that is controlled by interfacing through the cars inputs. Why "reinvent the wheel"? The vast majority of car buyers likely currently use Apple or Android so adopting to a redundent system is averted. Most people I know use their phones for navigation even though their car has its own mapping software. "Google maps" is simply better is the common comment. Of course I'm talking about markets in the countries I'm familiar. S. E. Asia and USA. Not sure what is selling in China.
Charging for me wouldn't mean a thing as I am retired and not in a rush to get some where more than 300k away, tyres really also mean nothing as I have a wholesaler not far from me that will buy my old tyres and chuck on some decent Pirelli or similar for only a couple hundred extra, anything that I can fix or improve that is a minimal cost like tyres is not an issue for me. If it's a larger issue like left hand drive , well then I will give it a miss :). I am looking forward to a no fuel cost vehicle, that I can drive as much as I like locally and up to 200k away for nothing, zero, zilch, nada, considering my Diesel now costs me about $140 to fill from empty, the EV will end up paying for itself over the next ten years we would keep it.
You mention that western cars come with "Nothing" Welll.... What we get is a vast improvement from my first car. 71 Buick. In the 70's A am/fm radio was extra. cruise control was extra. AC was extra. 1 speaker for an am radio was standard. Sun roof was extra. Driver assist was not invented yet. Leather seats was extra. 12mpg was standard. Disc brakes were extra. Western cars have come a long way in 50 years. Just a point of view.
Oh 80Kw charging, most charging at home off solar so only slow on long trips.. city commute, great value. I’m in Newcastle NSW, made the trip to Syd to visit the show room.. quality looks good, roomy and inner looks better than video..
The 80kW max charge is a deal breaker for me. It’s absolutely fine for a city car, but Australia is a big country and like a lot of people I need a car that charges quickly for long interstate trips.
Good offering for the price, however, the 80KW DC charging time means this car is not really a practical choice for road trips. This surprises me since BYD prides itself on its 800V architecture. If BYD can rectify this and fit it with proper tires and suspension, this would be a great EV choice. The interior is a bit quirky with the red guitar strings and barbell vents, but otherwise good. Also good UI.
>American standard cars specs are garbage with nothing I wish. My 2008 Kia Rio is like that (crank arms for windows, no power anything, no cruise control, not even anti-lock brakes) and I love it. But you can't get cars like that anymore.
The karaoke microphone is not on the Atto 3 it's been omitted and a blank face plate will be in the base of the centre console. This was confirmed by the BYD representative at the Sydney experience centre. Our suspension settings will not be different on the Atto 3 and the Atto 3 will be fitted with Atlas brand tyres, different tyres than that fitted to the Yuan Plus vehicle at the Sydney experience centre. The screen size of the infotainment system is 12.8 inches not 12.5
I love reading comments lol as I will reply to some of the more moronic ones and see how they respond :) Being retired, i have some spare time now and again for chatting :)
Australia, UK, Japan really need to switch their roads to driving on the road side, with the rest of the world, and the US needs to switch to the metric system. It’s bizarre and very expensive for auto makers to cater to just a few countries. And the Attorney looks cool.
Please Sam do not drive to 0% as this is not real world use and is bad for any battery (just less damaging for lfp than others). Maybe better would be to 10% warning or some other marker defined by the car itself.
Placed a deposit, eta is august. Pending a test drive and final spec, lucky the deposit is refundable. Deal breakers for me, chinese tyres, no aus suspension tuning, no apple/android integration. So fingers cross that the aus version addresses these issues.
If it can maintain near 80 kw dc charging for longer and is reasonably efficient it is likely ok , ac charging above 7kw would be also beneficial. At a price much cheaper than Tesla good value . Problems with charging are ,available dc chargers and speed to connect . Fast speeds pointless if charging points not available or broken etc. Automotive Journalists shy away from truth constantly. On the interior personally I am not keen on light colours. The sun is bright in Australia and I find even having a piece of paper on the dash in sunny weather distracting. Also how will white stand up after 10+ years? I have found all the reviews seem to be people reading the same press release/script and there is no useful information for me. Would I sound cynical that if the car is reasonable why do the reviewers need to be told what to say? they have promised them for 2-3 months time and there is still no evidence that the right hand side production line exists. Even the most efficient of supply chains seem likely to take a few days to make the cars and 2-3 weeks to get the from the factory to Sydney for those of us that don't live in Sydney the best case scenario seems likely that they would start to be delivered to customers 2-3 days after that. Does it make me a fanboy to have ordered one? Or just silly.

Hopefully these will sell well here in AU. Seems like you just need to plan on getting the tyres replaced up front which should be no big deal.
Australia is not getting those tyres.
@@raymondmumford6255 That’s even better then. Seems they couldn’t really find anything showstoppingly wrong with it. Has it been crash tested anywhere?
@@timwhite8500 I'm not sure if it's been crash tested anywhere else.
Hopefully the suspension is ok.
A lot of improvement can be had with better tires. I’m assuming they are the same budget Chinese Chaoyang Tires that are on the Dolphin.
Hi Sam,
You mentioned checking the Atto 3 driving range by driving it to 0% charge and being stuck on the side of the road. That got me thinking as to whether one EV could transfer some of its charge to another EV. Is this possible? If it is or will be in the future then it would help to alleviate range anxiety. Just hit a
The Atto 3 supports V2L, which would allow you to syphon off some electrons to another car if it's out of charge. The V2L output is only 2.5KW though, so it's going o take a while ;-)
Easiest way to charge any EV stuck on the side of the road with low charge is to tow it and use regen to charge the battery. Then EV or ICE car can be used for charging.
I think this is quite possible. I think if we ask, byd would do it.
@@hartoz 3.3kw
@@danielmulder1999 Regen isn't capable of generating that much energy. I know for sure that in other European countries, they have vans with generators inside to charge the vehicle to enough juice to get to the next charging station. This is what I think would be the best way
Excitedly I would have said yippee, yes.
Some of the interior looks retro to 1950's thru early 60's, but exterior seems very modern. Can't wait for full review.
Just seen the review , looks great 44000 aus dollars , right hand drive test , nothing shown of boot or under bonnet , interior not really shown much , battery size?
Do you know ground clearance?
This is your best report ever. Keep providing some reality.
By the way Sam there are other alternatives available ex-stock certainly in UK ... For example the Citroen EC4 at around £30,000... or the Peugeot 2008 .. 100 kW charging Google auto and apple (same platform) a little more expensive.
Base on design, it is a direct fight against the VW id4 and Skoda Enyaq. Though the VW and Skoda should have better drive handling, I do like the Atto 3 interior design. Well done.
Will it be able to tow a small trailer though? Most cheaper EVS don't tow, which is why I'm considering a Plug In Hybrid instead.
Not too bothered with the 80kW fast charging, not a deal breaker for the price. Hopefully in future they can offer up to 200kW fast charging. I ordered one....hopefully get it in July.
Any ideas how much i'm going to pay for insurance on my Atto?
When can we in Australia get a test drive??
When are you receiving the car?
You’re right about those sensitive types won’t buy it because they don’t like the interior,I guess they will always go for a neutral like black or grey! I mean you have to ask the question, is the morgue grey ? What black for funerals, do grey days make you happy?
Hi Sam, drive a Tesla Model S 16 model. Just sold and ordered a BYD Atto 3 (due July like yours). Fill in EV until Model Y released and then the “months” of wait - 2years time?
Also brought BYD shares, Tesla and Aussie Lithium mining shares. Go the EV evolution!!
Just saw the atto 3 at Singapore showroom .. exterior looks awesome.. Not a big fan of interior .. and I think Atto 4 will be the game changer.. am currently driving byd e6 which is a charm
Please comment on reports that BYD has yet to make a profit on their EVs. Cars only or EV busses too?
Have a look at our full video and read review straight from the horses mouth.

Nice work guys!
80 or 200 kw charging.... jesus.... sounds like a crying child. Remember... it is the first model which is available globally. It is like buying a computer Pentium 2..... the basics are very good. The rest of the features will come by the time. Get rid off your BMW and enjoy a cleaner environment.
EV direct said that they would swap the tires to something more recognisable in Australia
But BYD OS is basically an Android OS out of the box, you can side load apps like Google maps
BYD are adding Aoole Carplay and Android Auto in September of 2022, via over the air update.
I don't see the need for a shifter in an electric car. Just using space without offering any benefits
I personally like it. Feels like you're piloting a Gundam.
I have been running a mg eleric car for Las 16 months and can say say it is no brainer for that price
Very few EV charge at 80kw past around 50kwh, if the Atto 3 can keep the 80kw charge up to 80% then it beats most current EV
It willl have Australian tune and continental tires
Shame about the charging speed
Interior is one of dozen deal make or breakers.
You have to find it a nice place to BE.
Given that they have no internal combustion engine, or gearbox, pricing is way too high & will need to drop substantially.
The car is pretty good but the thing here is that if it's not from Europe or USA then it's not perfectly built
>American standard cars specs are garbage with nothing
I wish.
The screen size of the infotainment system is 12.8 inches not 12.5
Nice
I love reading comments lol as I will reply to some of the more moronic ones and see how they respond :) Being retired, i have some spare time now and again for chatting :)
⚡ BYD Atto 👍🏼
Australia, UK, Japan really need to switch their roads to driving on the road side, with the rest of the world, and the US needs to switch to the metric system. It’s bizarre and very expensive for auto makers to cater to just a few countries. And the Attorney looks cool.
What about India, Malaysia, Thailand etc. They drive on the left too.
I want that ute!
You get some early test drives! Not easy.
I think the red cords are nonsenses. I think I have no problem with other parts.
Is BYD paying you to drive it?
@@joeking433 nope, i wish.
Apparently the tyres will be continental and suspension tuned for Australia.
Would sell well in British isles
1 media? There are lots reviews for BYD
I don't think any of the interior design choices by themselves are terrible, but the overall whole looks very schizophrenic to me. The design doesn't feel cohesive enough throughout.
Predictable the prospect of an affordable EV appears to have evaporated . $48k is not a price that you're average family can just stump up .
It's the price of a RAV4 hybrid which I see everywhere on the road.
Oh my God, karaoke in a car. I have long maintained that karaoke is Japan's revenge on the west for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Karaoke isn't popular in the States. Just Asia.
@@joeking433 I'm not sure about the States but it has taken over many places in Europe. It's really annoying to go out for a beer and find oneself subjected to that excruciating Karaoke sonic attack.
So your test drive???
Another Australian review on the Ato3 ua-cam.com/video/iMo1zonbpuc/v-deo.html
I would like to join your challenge test drive
No bluetooth no navigation no me.
Very very nice car
Driving an EV to zero battery can be bad for the battery. Ask permission if you’re planning t do that.
Oh dear, security threat. Banned!
