I grew up listening to John Hiatt with my Dad... classic songwriting and a classic voice. His songs bring me nostalgia and peace in the best way possible.
C’mon man. “He was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel” is ridiculous. I love this song, and John’s work, but he is lightyears away from Dylan or Springsteen when it come to songwriting.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music…..❤️❤️❤️
First time I saw John Hiatt he was a desolate man. We're talking 1985, John touring with Loudon Wainwright. We're talking Enschede, The Netherlands. John and Loudon played to an audience of, say, a hundred students. That's what life was like for a genius songwriter from the US without too many hit records & a private life on the rocks. But you bet John performed as he would on your average Ottawa Bluesfest '99. Survivor's spirit. Musician's flame. Then came BTF. The rest, friends, is history.
Saw him in Calgary a few years ago... Wow, One of the top masters in his prime in a great setting. Always the best, A real class act. I'd love to see him perform with Chris Rea.
Wow! That's what I call a great acustick version. Harmonies, nice blend with guitar, bass and mandolin. And the composition, taking it down, bass out and shaker inn. Ahhh... Hiatt nails it!
YES all of the above. My legal contract lifetime commitment to love and respect, and service and protection and vulnerable people ❤❤❤ What an amazing artist
in this way he's one of the sneaky-est of the best songwriters - it may be years later before you realize the wordplay or enuendo in a song you thought you knew. absolute master- and still finds room for humor..
Always loved anything John Hiatt did, My two songs are, "Little Head" and "Smashing a Perfectly Good Guitar". I always understood the lyrics to Little Head, but just recently I heard a snipit of "SPGG" and I could relate that song to my relationship with so much compassion, conviction, and regret. I never knew the true meaning of these lyrics in the late 80's or 90's when first hearing it, I just thought, like most people "why do they smash a perfectly good guitar on stage". Now I know why!
First time I saw John Haitt; he opened at Jones Beach Theatre Long Island NY for Hootie and the Blowfish...I enjoyed John Haitt so much, I went to see him at Westbury Music Theater as well. It was magic! His guitar playing will make your eyes roll to the back of your head!
i just saw john live for the first time 2 days ago. i still can't get it out of my mind. he was everything i hoped for and more. i wasn't familiar with this song that he played and it brought tears to my eyes. such an amazing song writer and performer. gives me hope for this world.
Amen. I love both Backdoor Slam and the man they admire musically. John Hiatt is truely a talent to be reckoned with. Its great to see a new generation of musically talented kids (especially someone as good as Davy) love Hiatt's awesome writing and musical xoul :-)
Miss him, used to come by every yr. first time went never heard of one of our best songwriters ever, too many covers written by Hyatt. First night , had to go back for second night and back yr after yr.
I really can’t stop listenning to him, since I heard this song on a Tv show. Never ever heard him before, and he’s already the most talented singer-artist for me.
There are few singers and songwriters whose songs become a part of the American fabric... Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan... John Hiatt deserves the same icon status as those greats.
...to get lost in each other or to go home and doze off. There was Mr. Hiatt, standing by himself in half-shadow. He was a small man on all accounts, his hands in the pockets of a small raincoat, a facial expression somewhere between wonder and acquiescence. My opportunity to exchange a few words, in embarrassing fandom. "Thank you, Mr. Hiatt. That was great. Loved it, really." What more can one say? It was true. There's no comparison between immersion in good music and ...
Wayne Austin I can't get this comment in reply to you to show on the public comment section I don't know why but in any case yeah the guy playing the mandolin is beyond incredible. It just makes the song that extra bit amazing
I love this song. The high hormonic voice of the Mandolin player is a perfect match for Mr. Hiatt. Pluc the sound is above average of most HD videos posted. Good times light a bowl and tap your feet. 8/22/2020.
So why did America neglect JH for sooooo long? In the 1980's John Hiatt did a concert tour in The Netherlands every year, while at his US home he was sitting around doing nothing because nobody seemed to care.
"Throwin' up ashes on the floor If this is a lesson in love Well what's it for? The heart won't remember The burning fire The next time you feel the flame of desire." Not sure any poet has said it any better.
GOD is love. Jesus is GOD. He made everything. Us. Me. YOU. Choose Life. Choose Jesus. Ask His forgiveness, for we are all sinners. NOW. While you still can.

Chuck - bassist/bgvocalist is Davey Faragher.. who got coproducer credit for the album Little Head - and showed up later playing bass for EC's Imposters (check EC's TV program 'Spectacle')
The trust of a woman in his hand But he was a little boy, not a man You loved him stronger than he could feel But he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel Now what you gonna do with the bruise and the blush What you gonna do when there's no rush Cop a little misery at the corner store Well one day that train of pain won't stop no more
Dave Imergluck is an amazing musician. He as recorded and toured with Counting Crows for a longtime and was part of Paul Collins Beat on Collins solo album which featured Chris Isaaks band. The self titled Paul Collins album with Collins wearing a cowboy hat on the cover, not The Beat self titled LP.
that would be david immergluck on mandolin..saw hiatt tour with him...mid to late 90's thinkin' col ballroom..davenport iowa...new cd..."the open road" really a good one !

After the show, I got a chance to talk with Mr. Hiatt. Actually, any audience member got a chance to stay around, help out the roadies, grab a beer (Grolsch) and talk with John. That's what life was like for Enschede students with an ear for good music and a penchant for John's music. At the time, John happened to be a star only in Enschede, Netherlands. does any one have any idea of how to get hold of the video of this Session at W 54th? It has to be available somewhere. For a Hiatt fan, it is a must have. LT
There are certain writers who have universal respect. This guy is one of them.
One of the best songwriters alive.
I grew up listening to John Hiatt with my Dad... classic songwriting and a classic voice. His songs bring me nostalgia and peace in the best way possible.
I grew up listening with my dad as well and Hiatt is always my go to for nostalgia!
He says it like it is too, doesn't hold back. Lyle Lovett is another underrepresented songwriter with great talent.
I could listen ro this all day!
My man is as good as Springsteen and Dylan and gets so much less publicity. Outstanding songwriter
best in my book- I'd put him in my top singer songwriters all day long. love the twist in language that's always there: but not always heard
Very good songwriter but not even close on this one.....
I gave you an upvote because you respect his music. But, he couldn't write The River or Blood on the Tracks. So, let's not get too crazy here.
C’mon man. “He was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel” is ridiculous. I love this song, and John’s work, but he is lightyears away from Dylan or Springsteen when it come to songwriting.
Ain't that the truth. He is a constant source of 'heart'.
A voice from another day-this is my favorite Hiatt song. It's still relevant in my life! Love love love
Started listening when I was 13...am 61 now and I'm still a huge fan. Still remember all the words, music and the memories invoked.
Me to and I’m 68!
He's got it all. Passion, meaning, talent...

BTF?
@@squamish4244His most successful album, 'Bring The Family'. The one containing his monster hit 'Have A Little Faith In Me'.
Arrested Development brought me here. Another reason to love that show haha
No one does it better, more soulfully, more real .. than John Hiatt.
God, I love John Hiatt - and especially this piece.
This man is a genius storyteller in his songs. I have been fortunate enough to meet him.
Diamond John!
I worked with him, he's a gentleman through and through
Saw him live once. He's priceless.
John should be in the R&R HOF. Brilliant writer and performer.
I know this legend through my parents especially this song and feels like rain. Never heard bad music in this house hold. Great track
As Bonnie Raitt said John Hiatt is the only person who can rhyme amoeba with queen of Sheba.
I have to borrow that..
🤣🎉👏🏼💙💪🏼

What an amazing artist
I just love these recordings, seen John live 5 Times.
I always love the sly humor and word choices he uses. Wrapped up in himself like an orange peel 😂 Love it

John's genius on display with tight trio ..... harmony is spot on.
beautiful

A great American singer/songwriter from a great American place. Indiana, I believe.
I can look up facts too.
So why did America neglect JH for sooooo long?
In the 1980's John Hiatt did a concert tour in The Netherlands every year, while at his US home he was sitting around doing nothing because nobody seemed to care.
That guy sure can play the hell out of the mandolin. Great Song!

Erik T spot on
A favorite, thank you John Hiatt
Loved hearing this live at the North Sea Jazz festival 2012. Awesome roots music.
GOD is love. Jesus is GOD. He made everything. Us. Me. YOU. Choose Life. Choose Jesus. Ask His forgiveness, for we are all sinners. NOW. While you still can.

These guys really are in harmony....Very well played and i really like this version....marvelous
Man, that harmony is delicious
John's new album touches me in places he has not in several years .. a fine touch to it...
Another perfectly crafted song. 👍🏻
A moment of steel
A dry-eyed house
Did he say goodbye to you
Or did you kick him out
I know you're not afraid
To go alone
But this was a marriage of spirit, flesh, and bone
Now whatcha gonna do
When the planet shifts
Whatcha gonna do
Gonna slit your wrists
Bleed all over the milky way
The stars in your eyes look red today
[Chorus:]
Cry love, Cry love
The tears of an angel
The tears of a dove
Spilling all over, your heart from above
Cry Love, Cry Love
The trust of a woman in his hand
But he was a little boy, not a man
You loved him stronger than he could feel
Yeah he was wrapped up in himself like an orange peel
Now whatcha gonna do
With the booze and the blush
Whatcha gonna do
When there's no rush
Cop a little misery
At the corner store
Well' one day that train of pain won't stop no more
[Chorus]
Throwning up ashes on the floor
If this is a lesson in love
Well what's it for?
The heart will remember
The burning fire
The next time you feel the flame
Of desire
[Chorus 2x]
Cry love, cry love, cry love
John is an absolute wonderful performer and writer
Fantastic in every way
Awesomely harmonized.
And props to John for running a line out on his guitar AND putting a mic on it. I hate it when people just run a line out.
