To write a song like this at 16 years of life is astonishing..just unbelievable. “ Don’t confront me with my failures. I have not forgotten them “ what an artist.
First song of his I ever heard was "Doctor My Eyes," and I thought, Wow, that's different, a little deeper than the usual pop song.......and then I heard this one. He wrote this at 16 or 17? I've been a fan since. This version sounds like a hybrid of the Nico and the Greg Allman versions, if I'm not mistaken this is the original lyric, not choppy like the German chanteuse Nico, but a mellow and bluesy vocal like Greg Allmon. NICE.
Forget the Rock and Roll hall of fame , America needs a place where we can name a few people as “National Treasures “ people like Dolly Parton , Willie Nelson , Patsy Kline ,Roy Orbison and Jackson Brown bring nothing but good for America.
I’m a Vietnam veteran who served in 1971-72. That said, Jackson Browne’s words have been a healing ever since I first heard him. Thank you for bringing it home, for the reminders of our humanity. ‘Doctor in my Eyes’
I spoke to a war Veteran yesterday morning... He listed the wars he'd been involved in... Vietnam was one of them in the marines... shame I could spare more time to listen to some of his stories ! I love Jackson Browne and to me he's just as great as Dylan... with lovely melodies in his music ! Dylan is more raw but I love him too as a fighter of PEACE ✌️🕊️❤
Our daughter sent us a text yesterday to say the best thing about our Christmas this year as a family was being in the kitchen on Christmas day all together and listening to Jackson Browne...thank you for all your music...and please come back to Ireland... Maggie in Ballina County Mayo.
Jackson is in his 70s now. He's been singing those lyrics for almost 60 years, but it sounds as if he could have written them yesterday, from the perspective of a person looking back at a long life. Amazing indeed.
A person can not think that guys like Jaxson brown are a spirit vessel to connect this music to mankind from some out side spiritual force. Bob Dillion commented on this saying he has no idea where it comes from and he was in some zone in his youth and can’t really feel it now .
Jackson Brown was a prophetic poet even in his teens. Everything he writes seem generationally universal, the same questions at 17 that I still have at 74. And still no answers.
The answers are clutched deep within the stoic individuality that comprises each of own indivisible conscious individuality. If you're looking for something more than you had when you were discerned all things as a child, then you've been hookwinked into the predatory clutches of stuff outside of your own cosmic dominion. Like Jai Jagdeesch sang for all the children, "know you are loved. Jackson knew he was loved, & I"m grateful for his cosmic recording of the eternal experience....
If you can't get a song across with just vocals and guitar, it's usually crap! What a gem of a song. Vocals sound as good as they ever did, even better in some aspects. As my dad would say, 'Jackson's still got the pipes.' Carry On J.B.
Hi Everyone. I'm 76. Jackson touched my soul when I was in my 20's and ever. Ever since. I love this beautiful man and his music fervently from the depths of my being. God bless him always and his incredible beautiful music.
I wore the grooves off of my "Saturate Before Using" album by the time I joined the Navy in Feb. 1973. Tangled and destroyed copies on 8 track and cassette followed over the next couple decades. Now, I have it all on CDs backed up as digital files on my pc. My love of his music never died. However, seeing Jackson as an old man is hard for me, for now, I am an old man, too. Life is so bittersweet.
"I think, most of us , are like Jethro Tull, , Living in the past, and are afraid to face the reality, "Nothing stays the same. " IT seems ,daily, we hear of the passing of another one of our Favorite rock stars, and a piece of us, dies right along with that person. THE separation, is we have these people immortalized, and and embedded in our memories, through our media. THE scratched up 45's , and albums , over played through our teen years, and now, skip so much, they are virtually unplayable. OR the cassettes, and 8 Tracks, that simply self-destruct , through time.... People grow up, and change. But, I think It's hard for us , as fans, to accept the fact, our artists, are changing, too. AND, for too many of them; THEY can't carry a tune, like they did, in their 20's. We see , and hear them, as they were , when we were growing up. Fifty years later; We can barely recognize them. Dell Shannon, before his passing, in his latter years; was unrecognizable, and struggled to hit that high note, he was so famous for, "IN his hit ,Runaway. " Jonathan Edwards, Procal Harum,. Melanie, .... THE same thing. "The only constant in the universe, is Nothing , stays the same." THE media, we play now, is a time stamp, and a fixed piece of time, and something we can control. THE artists moved on; We didn't. and find it hard to accept this change. THESE amazing people, so talented, were a huge part of our lives, and defined us, as we grew up. THEY were connected to our memories , and were a huge part, of we became.
For me I sadly have now have the privilege of perspective. He is honest that he had written this as a boy/man and you can hear that in the lyrics. No one wants to be confronted with their failures, whatever their age.
I think it's true , for most. We see , and hear , them, in their prime. ( 20's) to 30's) , and pitch perfect, and we immortalize them. "Before the big change. " I have heard, too many artists, struggle , greatly to hit the that high note. Dell Shannon, THE Tokens, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight? THE guy nailed High C. Never again. Tommy Roe,"Dizzy.", Jonathan Edwards, " , Melanie , ALL have huge fan bases ,but, even so. THEY are basically unrecognizable. UNLESS, you've been following them , all their lives. They are basically , not the same people, and too many of the class bands are missing key artists, due to death, or other illnesses. I think what t suprized me; was the total amount bands , that simply didn't exist anymore. THAT me feel old. Have I actually became a Legacy ? The death of Gary Brooker, (Procol Harum) , made me realize, life is too short, and we need to grasp, every minute, because, you don't know, when your number comes up?
Jackson Browne has been in my life forever… As a young parent we had “Sunday morning breakfast and Jackson Browne music.”. My grandkids now celebrate with waffles and Jackson Browne songs. This man’s music accompanied my husband thru his death. Jackson Browne will always be my family.

My x husband who died ten years ago Loved listening to Jackson . Saw him many times . Now when i listen to This I understand him more . So sorry pat . Miss you .
Hi Jackson. I have enjoyed your songs and music from my time as a student at Stony Brook University (NY) in the late 1960s. We crossed paths there several times in the H-dorm (you were not a student there) and even played on the same gig for two university sponsored concerts. I was in a duo with several names (Bill & Willie and later as Abelard & Dr. Jones). Later (circa 1970) on the West coast you opened up for Hamilton Camp when I was his lead guitarist at two folk clubs (in LA and Orange County). Finally, I spent several hours at your apartment in Echo Park practicing with Penny Nichols for a gig also in Southern Cal (you were not there). In all those times our paths crossed, I am not sure we ever spoke- but at 76 my memory is not the greatest. Thank you for your incredible songs and equally incredible efforts to help others in need. I published my first songs when I was 18 (you beat me by a couple of years) and have been a semi-pro and amateur songwriter on and off for nearly 6 decades. None are in the same category as yours but at least I have experienced the multitude of feelings one shares in writing and performing one's songs. Thank you for sharing yours . They have made this world a much better place. Bravo!
This song. "Don't confront me with my failures" That line Gave me courage to walk away from an abusive family . Thank you for sharing it. I'm 65 now. Free Bless you and yours.🐦🌹💯🙏
When I was 20, I remember telling my big sister that I liked this musician. That Christmas, she would gift me with The Pretender. I always felt The Pretender was his pinnacle and Court And Spark was Joni's pinnacle. 74 and 76. A time when The Bee Gees pretty much owned the airwaves. Talk about cutting through the mix.
Jackson Browne, I just want to tell you I absolutely love your music. Especially this song. I'm 23 years old from Coventry, England, UK. I was raised by my grandparents, and I grew up listening to their favourite songs and artists, and although I must admit, that I didn't always appreciate their tastes as much when I was very little, I definitely do now. They introduced me to so many outstanding artists and I certainly feel like their tastes have rubbed off on me and certainly influenced my own music. (guitarist) 🤝🏻 I just wanted to say thank you for all your incredible talent, and all the great memories learning your songs.
I've been listening to him since we were both kids. His lyrics have had a huge impact on my life. Always glad to hear him. Last two lines of this song -- OMG! They still hit me full force.
Thanks for your consistent love and support towards me on my page, I really appreciate and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above so we can have more positive conversations about music and life in general 🥂💙
'Take it Easy' my dear young man. I'm running on empty but will see you Christchurch New Zealand in 2023.❤️🇳🇿👍 If you want to stay a little bit longer, I have room at my play.
love you, Jackson! my old girlfriend grew up in hollywood in the late 60's/early seventies, and spotted Jackson driving and followed him home. once she saw where he lived, she went home, baked some cookies, and edrove back. she knocked on the door, he invited her in, and they chatted over cookies and milk.. what a guy!!!!
Good to know you wrote that song I've always liked it a lot and assumed Greg Allman wrote it. Sounds more like a song an "old soul" might write, rather that a ,sixteen-year-old. I'm impressed!!
I used to listen to this on a cassette tape I made from a radio broadcast in 1971 when I was in Fullerton. This song and "The Late Show" were my songs that helped heal some bad wounds. Thank you, Jackson Browne.
Jackson has one masterpiece album. Late for the sky. Maybe three really good ones, lawyers in love, I’m alive, running on empty and lives in the balance. rest okay.
An american born in Germany wrote with 16 years one of the most astonishing songs about failures in live and the first released version on vinyl is by a german supermodel named Nico. What a story...
He's about the most talented musician out there. Saw him the first time in 76 in Florida and left a lifelong fan. We've seen him a couple times in Seattle and his voice is still as beautiful as 45 years ago. Thank you for this...what a gift.
I am the same age as Jackson Browne and him and others like James Taylor, CS&N and others were and still are my heroes. What a time to grow up. What an era of music and musicians. Just what an era. Not trouble free , but I think back on those days and sometimes I just pine for them. Ah well, my workshops waiting for me . Haven’t decided what album to put on yet.
Jackson, I’m 60 years old now, back to when I was around 8 years old, my mom would play you album ‘ late for the sky’, since then you have been one of my favorite voices to listen to. Great songwriting and poetry in your vision. Saw you a few years ago at the northridge performance arts theatre.. you were still stylin your younger long hair and the show was amazing… love the mature look you’re sporting now. Your music touches my soul Thank you
Your voice and music remind me of the times that I would be on the road listening to your songs at three or 4 o’clock in the morning driving to the next show and my best friend and drummer Chuck who is no longer with us. Your voice and music remind me of those days my friend.
This is the main man, I’d say one of the greatest song writters ever, and musicians, that’s why they stand the test of time, it’s not like these silly kids nowadays, getting the big fame, and silly girls screaming for them, with nil ability, of singing or trying to play an instrument, ,,,,.these guys didn’t want fame and that crap, that comes with it,,,they were just the best at what they do, and still bloody are, bless u Jackson, ❤️👏👏🇮🇪🇮🇪
Merry Christmas, Jackson! You wrote the soundtrack to my life! Not long after I made that same comment on one of your videos in March 2021, I went into sudden heart failure. Never had heart problems before. Rarely drink, don't smoke or do illicit drugs (not for many, many years.) Was very active in my younger years. (Listen up, ladies: Heart disease is known as the "silent killer of women." My only symptoms were nausea, slight shortness of breath and a light gnawing unrelenting pressure on my chest (not pain) after waking in the middle of the night covered in sweat, soaked to the bone. I'm a retired medical assistant so I knew the signs were not favorable so called 9-1-1 and spent a week in the hospital, alone (no visitors due to covid.) It was surreal. I'm OK now. No surgery. Just have to take heart pills now and limit salt and fluids. Then Jackson went and wrote My Cleveland Heart. You have my heart, Jackson. We are kindred souls and you don't even know it. I can't afford to attend any concerts (my hospital bill was over $100,000-still waiting on insurance to cover their portion-I was already poor) but I wish you well, ALWAYS. Hope the New Year brings you good health, joy, laughter and love. Enjoy every sandwich.
@@im4everskilled not sure how you mean. Have we met before? Your projecting pretty hard man So in your world the idea that sometimes people have injuries from things like vaccines is a conspiracy theory? You’ll have to explain what you mean man because that seems pretty over the top to me. Are you not able to cognitively hold the concept in your mind that injuries happen from especially newer medical treatments without it being a conspiracy?
He is as amazing as he ever was. I have loved his music since the first day he opened his beautiful mouth and filled the world with his soul touching voice. ❤❤
Forty six years ago I heard "These Days" for the first time as my first Jackson Browne song. It has carried with me since as my favorite song. Earlier this year I saw Jackson Browne in concert in Central California and his music, new and old, is as magical as ever. I am so grateful for his songs and story telling, it has always meant so much to me.
Thanksgiving is a couple days away (2024) and I have much to be thankful for. This song reminds me of my youth when things were not so complicated…. This song has also come full circle in my senior years. Thanks my friend.
I ran into him at a James Taylor concert many years back. I walked up and handed him a James Taylor matchbook we had had made up to give away as mementos. He just looked at me, smiled and said "Wow this is truly an artifact, I will keep it always" I never forgot that.....
Beautiful eyes, beautiful smile, beautiful laugh. 💜 The beautiful music comes from that beautiful heart. 🌼 Your gentle spirit feeds my gentle spirit. Nourishment for a starving soul. 🌿
I graduated from high school in 1980 and I listened to a lot of Jackson Browne and James Taylor. That was half of my high school soundtrack because these were my girlfriend's favorites. I had listened to mostly Led Zepplin and Aerosmith. This music however did grow on me. Listening now to Jackson as he has aged and weathered like all of us makes me think in some ways of how those times were precious but we really did not know it. Life seemed to be much simpler then pre 9-11. Just listening to him talk like a regular person is somewhat amazing ( like Ferris Bueller talking to us on his day off ) Everyone has posted how powerful his music is and how it has made an impact on our lives and just pausing and being thankful for how his songs have been the backdrop of our moving through this life has been a nice little vacation.
"Don't confront me with my failures, I have not forgotten them". I've had these thought provoking words written on a Post-it note on my computer monitor for several years now and I look a them every day. During that time I've gone through several changes in my life - COVID, a divorce after 20+ years of marriage, health issues, a new relationship, etc. Along the way, I will always carry the mistakes made in my life with me, but I won't dwell on them or let them define me. In fact, they've made me a better man, a better partner, a better father, a better person. We learn from our mistakes. We learn (hopefully) not to make them again, but we also grow from them into a better version of ourselves. Great song and a great and meaningful bit of lyrics with very deep meaning in my life! It's amazing that he wrote them at sixteen.
I’m 70ish and agree the Baby Boomer’s generation (1945-1965) had some of the BEST music! It’s 👍 that we still have the ability of watching/listening to their music - thx to YT, etc. and the technology now.
@lindabea 0 seconds ago I dont know how a 16 year old can write something so age-weary weighty. Just beautiful. I can hear the David Lindley accompaniment in my mind. Thank you, Jackson, for your music and the poetry of your being.
Thanks for your consistent love and support towards me on my page, I really appreciate and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above so we can have more positive conversations about music and life in general 🥂💙
Please, please, keep touring Jackson. Am 65, was overseas in the 1970's , doing something I never believed in. Had a poster of a soldier, shot, dying while still standing up. The poster said, " WHY ? ". My Staff Sergeant was so incredibly pissed off. But, that was my conscience. Too bad Sarge.
Jackson, you were always my favorite singer-songwriter since my late brother Tim brought your Pretender album home one day in 1976. I went on to see you as my first concert in 1977. Thank you so much for this moving music that continues to touch our souls.
love this man's humbleness about his amazing musicianship....i think that if he wasn't such a well known award winning artist, you'd find him happlily busking somewhere...hopefully in my hometown
To write a song like this at 16 years of life is astonishing..just unbelievable. “ Don’t confront me with my failures. I have not forgotten them “ what an artist.
one of my favorite lines in song
My weight leaves the chair I'm sitting in as I go back to the first time I heard this tune...
"Don't confront me with my failures, I had not forgotten them" Isn't this one of the greatest lines- EVER:) Don't we ALL feel that way?
Remember a family member irritating you by bringing up something from your past. My dad still does it and I'm 59.
Yes
First song of his I ever heard was "Doctor My Eyes," and I thought, Wow, that's different, a little deeper than the usual pop song.......and then I heard this one. He wrote this at 16 or 17? You took the words right out of my mouth.

Jackson is in his 70s now. He's been singing those lyrics for almost 60 years, but it sounds as if he could have written them yesterday, from the perspective of a person looking back at a long life. Amazing indeed.
Oh, yeah!
Agreed . And he also wrote “ FURTHER ON “ at age 17. Another song with so much wisdom and vision that only an older man can put to words
Jackson Browne fans are all “my people”.
No tours in the South. !!!!! 4 concerts in NY . I just saw the Eagles in Houston. Awesome. I love JB. Come on down to the South!!!!!!
I'm 68 years old and i can relate to this song. Thanks Jackson browne for letting me grow up with you.

@Dan Madden
How could a 16-year-old Jackson Browne right the perfect song for a 63-year-old me?
Estoy de acuerdo. Estas canciones nunca van a pasar de moda. I go back in time, damn! Good old times never going to come back!

How does a young teen have enough wisdom and experience to write lyrics like that!
Let's All band together and realize Artists like Jackson Browne, Don Henley and more are America's Heartbeat.
I think Jackson was born an old soul. Writing lyrics like that at 16-17.
I love how easily his hands find the music.

Poet, Composer, Musician, Genius. I first heard this song back in 73, now in my later years it just Resonates all the more with how I view Life.
"Don't confront me with my failures; I had not forgotten them." Simplicity of expression, depth of thought. How were you even operating on that level of awareness at 16 years old?
Merry Christmas, Jackson. Thanks for everything.

That Line resonated with me too
Some of us were thinking just those thoughts and living just that at 16...
some 16 year olds are deep man.
It was a different time. No internet and lots of down time to think without all the noise of the world today.

OMG! Writing this at 16 what a gifted man.. the line.. don’t confront me with my failures.. I’ve not forgotten.. whew! So talented .
Thanks for your consistent love and support towards me on my page, I really appreciate and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above so we can have more positive conversations about music and life in general 🥂💙
Baracades of heaven,also a great!
Dr. my eyes,what a genious!
Anyone whoever got to work in the studio with Jackson saw pure emotional genius.
His reminiscing laugh in the end was priceless.
Good to know you wrote that song
I've always liked it a lot and assumed Greg Allman wrote it. Sounds more like a song an "old soul" might write, rather that a ,sixteen-year-old. I'm impressed!!
At 16 to write a song that i can relate to at 54 is mind blowing. Thank you Jackson Browne for sharing and blessing my soul 😢😊❤
I used to listen to this on a cassette tape I made from a radio broadcast in 1971 when I was in Fullerton. This song and "The Late Show" were my songs that helped heal some bad wounds. Thank you, Jackson Browne.
Give this man his flowers while he's still with us!!!! ❤
When Paul Westerberg covers your song, you know it’s a good one. Thanks for giving it to us.
This New Yorker want's to thank you for sharing your amazing music with us. Wishing everyone who watches A safe and healthy New year.
Jackson has one masterpiece album. Late for the sky. Maybe three really good ones, lawyers in love, I’m alive, running on empty and lives in the balance. rest okay.
As like a brother, father, friend, and teacher; this man's song has filled voids in my life for decades.
Thank you, JB
Can you believe how old mined we were at 16❤️this is why I’ve loved this music for 50 yrs🇺🇸
Sorry, minded not mined,
An american born in Germany wrote with 16 years one of the most astonishing songs about failures in live and the first released version on vinyl is by a german supermodel named Nico. What a story...
He's about the most talented musician out there. Saw him the first time in 76 in Florida and left a lifelong fan. We've seen him a couple times in Seattle and his voice is still as beautiful as 45 years ago. Thank you for this...what a gift.
@Austin Howland great
@Austin Howland hi Austin. Where are you? Happy 2022
'Don't confront me with my failures. I had not forgotten them.' A classic line that resonates with all of us through life.
"Rock Me On The Water," is one of my favorite songs.
I first head this song when I was a teenager. I'm 58 and still listening. He has a permanent place in my heart.
Your music touches my soul
Thank you
JB, your poetry has helped me get through life.
I'm 59. Listened to big brothers JB albums.
It is arguably, the best line in a song.
That would make Jackson about a 115 years old....
@@133rip hahaha. The album was in late 70s-early 80…I did the math. This fan is 40 years old something or Jackson is now 115 years old…
Your voice and music remind me of the times that I would be on the road listening to your songs at three or 4 o’clock in the morning driving to the next show and my best friend and drummer Chuck who is no longer with us. Your voice and music remind me of those days my friend.
I lost my dad a couple years ago. For these 5 minutes I felt him here again with me. Thank you.
I’m glad to know your feeling and doing better. Mind if I ask, had you received any of the covid vaccines prior to your heart failure?
Bless you
So glad to hear your ok.....
Starwind That’s what I want to know, too. I imagine she did:( so sad and wrong..
@@novakaya Don't try to make this into your crazy conspiracy theory shit.
@@im4everskilled not sure how you mean. Have we met before? Your projecting pretty hard man
So in your world the idea that sometimes people have injuries from things like vaccines is a conspiracy theory?
I love this song. “These Days” Always have!
This takes me back to the 80’s and driving the backroads of Georgia and Alabama with my friend Susan Freeman and singing along to Jackson Browne!
Hello Nicole how are you doing?
@@EM-zx4lq so you didn’t have your own roads to travel and music to listen to in Uruguay.
Wow, I’m crying. I first listened to you my first year of college, 1974. I had a big crush on you! And your voice is still gorgeous 😭💜💐
love how he remembers all the detailed nuances of over a half century of subtle changes to this brilliant song
Thanks for writing one of my favorite songs of all-time. It really captures a certain something that is hard to express but deeply felt.
Hearing you do this song reminds me that your music is as wonderful today as it was 50 years ago!
I saw JB when I was a kid and he was too. What a talented guy!!! Great poet and musician.
Jackson I met you on stage in Glasgow by surprise- your sacred music is the soundtrack to my childhood 🤍🙏🕊
Thanksgiving is a couple days away (2024) and I have much to be thankful for. This song reminds me of my youth when things were not so complicated…. This song has also come full circle in my senior years. Thanks my friend.
Another song of my life that rings so true...
Love Jackson B, saw him in Knoxville Tn years ago, this song has always been my favorite!
This live performance is very moving….
Hello Olivia how are you doing?
I ran into him at a James Taylor concert many years back. I walked up and handed him a James Taylor matchbook we had had made up to give away as mementos. He just looked at me, smiled and said "Wow this is truly an artifact, I will keep it always" I never forgot that.....
The first JB song I learned on guitar. Still on my playlist! ☮🌎
This popped up, I listened, grabbed my guitar, and did it one more time for myself.
Great song, thank you! Happy and safe days ahead… Bob
Loved it
He wrote it at 16. But it’s appropriate for me at 78!!
Beautiful eyes, beautiful smile, beautiful laugh. 💜
The beautiful music comes from that beautiful heart.
I've always enjoyed Greg Allman's version of this song. Weren't Greg and Jackson room mates back in the 60's?
Just another reminder being born in 1950 was a musicological blessing, eh?
'56 was good for me, but I get your drift. I used to fantasize about that court yard cover.
I’m 70ish and agree the Baby Boomer’s generation (1945-1965) had some of the BEST music! It’s 👍 that we still have the ability of watching/listening to their music - thx to YT, etc. and the technology now.

I dont know how a 16 year old can write something so age-weary weighty. Just beautiful. I can hear the David Lindley accompaniment in my mind. Thank you, Jackson, for your music and the poetry of your being.
love you jackson
i don't know idf anyone will ever get these messages but this Lenovo chromebook and You Tube and Tiny Desk Concerts are amazing.
Thank you for making me smile Jackson Browne.

This song is truly a gift that keeps on giving. What an artist.
One of my many favorites from this exceptionally talented man. Merry Christmas 🌲🙏
My favorite version
What an incredible Christmas present....Thank youJackson
love this man's humbleness about his amazing musicianship....i think that if he wasn't such a well known award winning artist, you'd find him happlily busking somewhere...hopefully in my hometown
An old favorite! I played your tunes in the old cook shack at Rolling Thunder's in 1976! You are better than ever!
I grew up w/your music in college & dreamed of meeting you because i loved your music & how it made me feel. You’re a good man.❤🙏🏻
Very Pretty "These Days", Merry Christmas Jackson Browne 😁
Always will… still do love JB ❤️❤️
