This video was extremely informative. Very detailed! Great job! Thank you for sharing this knowledge and talent with us. Question: What type of fabric material do you use? Where can we purchase it? Question: What type of foam do you use? Where can we purchase it? Thank you for this video.
WHY did Ford put that switch for the overhead lights on the left hand column??? I ran wires, and moved it to the right hand side, so it would be RIGHT THERE when you open the door!
This SO helpful. I consider myself a pretty capable DIY fella, but the learning curve for converting a van can be steeeeeep at times. These videos do make it easier, as more fun.
@@AVCRIG I sent you an email regarding customizing your flooring system panel that is most forward in the van (at the slider opening). Please take a look and let me know if this is possible.
Got this done! I would recommend adding a step to mask out the section under latch covers (with 1/2 inch margin) and other plastic fittings prior to foam - then removing that foam before applying the fabric. I am unable to get my latch covers or light control panel to snap back into place. I did successfully use this technique to keep the rear lights (then partially hid them under decor).
Thanks for the video! Im about to do this tonight. I guess you removed the door catches prior to wrap? Do you install them back on top of landau + carpet or you cut them out to make sure they fit back flush? Cheers
Would you still be able to install bug nets like the bug wall? That also gets installed under the weather stripping. Would the foam, fabric and bug wall material be to thick for the weather stripping to fit back on?
Nice videos! I'm binge-watching your channel and appreciate your simple design choices and high signal-to-noise ratio videos. (Particularly since you've ditched the background music (couldn't resist) :-) Q: Why not apply a single fabric strip over the arch and sides instead of three pieces to avoid the (visible) seam covers?
I don’t see why not. If you’re using a heavy fabric like we do you’d probably not notice a difference. With a thin fabric you may notice a wrinkle or two
Sometimes Amazon does that based on your location. Not all glues are available in every market. Sometimes the link just gets messed up too. Thanks for the heads up!
So I’m worried about removing the door catches on the top rear of the van in order to wrap the rear columns and top like your doing here. Do you guys have any other videos or resources that show how to remove and reinstall the top rear door catches safely?
You just pull them out. It’s very simple. In the Sprinter there’s adjustment, but the Transit is stationary. The only thing to solidify would be the torque specification.
Hey Matt, great content! (Subscribed) You don't mention and I can't tell.....but did you spray 3M 74 on the foam side? Or ? Thanks from an appreciative Sprinter owner!
We do yes. 90/94 would also work for this application. Landau is closed cell and doesn’t melt with 94. The 74 we use just tacks up faster so we can work faster.
Great Video! I've seen people not use foam and just adhere the fabric directly to the pillar. Is there a reason you used foam? Also what is the difference between the 3m 90 and 74?
We like the way the foam softens the wrapped sections of the van. It does add a warmer feel but no appreciable insulation. It’s definitely not necessary, but we think it is worth it. 90 is a general purpose adhesive. It will work just fine for this. It will melt the “blobs” so maybe look for one can of 74 for that. We like 74 for the wall’s because of a few things. Foam and Fabric specific, fast tacking, and orange color (optional on 90 in red). The color is nice (especially in a white van) to see where you have sprayed.
Best videos for Transit Vans...Appreciate all your videos and the time you take to respond to the comments.
Thanks for your support! We’re on a mission to make the Transit the best and most accessible van out there.
Best channel for van builds❤
Another fun and fantastic video. You truly make building a camper easy and that instills confidence in us to get going!. Keep the videos rolling!
That’s an awesome thing to say. Thanks for watching.

Glad you like it! Thanks for the support.
Thoroughly enjoying this channel and learning a ton. Thanks Matt!

@UCazSgCStg8_hp0TBZDhiXIw road trip! :) will you do the subfloor installation while I'm there?
@@eigeroverland absolutely
Just getting to this part of the build. Thanks for the details - there's no way I would have figured this out on my own.
Awesome!
Great video! You know your stuff. I’ve used your techniques on my Van build with great success! Thanks.
Great to hear!
good info here. the covered rear pillars look a lot better
I think so too!

That’s a great suggestion. I’ll give it a shot on our new van!
Awesome. That’s a job for me this weekend. Thanks for the guidance 👍🏻
Awesome. Just in time tutorials. Brought to you by AVC 🤪
Good video. For the algorithm. Subscribed as well
You guy's have been producing awesome content! I see the wall upholster kits on the AVC website. What color was used in this video?
We used Woolen for this build.
For the algorithm. Subscribed as well. 👍
Thanks! We’re getting close to a finished interior tube.
What is the material you used to cover over the foam? Is it a 4 way stretch?
Thanks for the video! Im about to do this tonight. I guess you removed the door catches prior to wrap? Do you install them back on top of landau + carpet or you cut them out to make sure they fit back flush? Cheers
Is this thin enough to put the back door locking mechanisms back on so it’s still aligned with back door?

Great videos, however how do you access the rear tail light bulbs if one burns out? It appears you upholstered over the access ports.
You can remove the tail lights when you open the back doors.

Q: Why not apply a single fabric strip over the arch and sides instead of three pieces to avoid the (visible) seam covers?
The fabric we use is really hard to stretch that much. It’ll do some things, but I’ve never gotten it to bend that much.
thanks for the awesome videos! probably a dumb question but can you use EZ Cool instead of the foam you used? thanks
I don’t see why not. If you’re using a heavy fabric like we do you’d probably not notice a difference. With a thin fabric you may notice a wrinkle or two
Another great tutorial. What is the thickness of the foam? 2mm, 3mm, 5mm…
This is America my guy.. 😂 1/8” landau foam
That’s right. 1/8” foam. But 3mm would be basically the same.
Is there a reason you changed the adhesive you used on the video to the one you recommend on your store?

Yes. We spray both sides and let the glue off gas till it doesn’t lift on your finger.

@@AVCRIG thanks for the reply! That makes sense! I was also wondering, do you guys just use self tapping screws for your roof framing?
@@mitchellkauffman6799 we do, but we bolt up the ceiling into 8mm inserts.
so 77 can be used on the landau?? is there any other advantage to the 74? it it stronger? cause the 77 is 3x as cheap and locally available@@AVCRIG
Does the 3m 74 hold up ok in high heat? I used 3m super 77 for something similar and had a lot of issues.
74 does MUCH better. 77 is not really meant for this kind of application. It’s more for mounting photos and craft projects.
Which Kind of foam is this one?
This is Landau 1/8”
?
