I think the small amount of NPCs can be very beneficial to the game and the feel of its world. The sense of desolation can really enhance the overall atmosphere. After all, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world. And the downtime can be very beneficial as well, as it builds up tension, making every encounter in the world more exciting and memorable. It is much better than throwing things constantly at you, in my opinion, as that can be rather tiring at times. And the downtime also gives you more... time... to appreciate the atmosphere as well.
I'm 1 minute in, and I was actually a little touched by your attitude with the suggestion to support smaller UA-camrs and then mentioning one. That's so awesome, and way too rare these days! Nice :D
Manjushri I agree. I have a 1440 p 144 hz monitor. Running a game at native resolution and over 100 FPS really takes gaming to the next level on PC. I will even drop the details on a game to get the higher frames because my PC is far from top of the line.
It is interesting how ACG mentions directional audio issues for Rage 2. While, I haven’t played Rage 2. I have experienced directional audio and audio mixing issues in several Bethesda games this gen. Doom, the Wolfenstein series and Prey all had bizarre audio issues when I played them even with patches. Good review, as always, ACG.
The fact they are published by Bethesda should have no effect on the audio mixing since Bethesda isn't involved in any of the technical details of development. You should blame Id, Machinegames, Arkane and Avalanche for these issues.
EvilTim1911 all the games I mentioned were developed by Bethesda owned studios. The consistent audio issues I have observed in the previously mentioned titles could be attributed to them using audio software specifically licensed by the publisher.
@@Reyma777 That's just an assumption though. I've been Googling around for a couple of minutes trying to find info about the audio engine these games use but audio engines are obscure stuff apparently and it would require further digging. For what it's worth, I've played all the games you listed and the only one where I had audio issues was Prey. Interestingly, I used to have audio issues a lot more often in games before I switched the default sound format on my on-board audio from 24bit 96,000Hz to 24bit 44,100Hz. I'd suggest taking a look at your audio settings in Windows since these are sometimes the root of the problem.
I've recently began playing Rage 2 on Xbox One X. I have to say, while there is room for some improvement, overall, it's one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had...so far. The visuals, generally, are relatively beautiful. The sound design is, generally, engaging and appropriate for the context. The controls are appropriate for the genre and are relatively intuitive (you can customize them with different presets and also remap button functions on Xbox One) The combat is outstanding in this game. The bugs have been minor. (one bandit, during a side quest, got stuck in a pile of junk during my merciless onslaught on their base 😎; and that's the only one I'm aware of that occured, thus far) The characters are engaging enough, given the context, to compell me to accomplish the next task; don't expect rpg character depth here. (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, etc.) There's a variety of fun and engaging things to do in the game world. (it's not as barren as Metal Gear Solid V: TPP's world design) While there is some room for improvement here, I'm hours in, and I haven't got bored with it yet. While this is a game, and therefore, should be designed to be fun, it wouldn't make sense for every inch of the game world to be _bristling_ with activity, considering the context. With the freedom open-world games offers, there is responsibility there for both the player and developer. The developer: Making appropriate content for the conditions, and the player: Taking advantage of that content, whatever way they're able and willing. Like every game, how you approach the game is going to determine your experience with it; and that especially applies to open-world games, because of there being more freedom. I could go into more depth about my experience with the game and it's features, but then I might as well do my own video review on it. 😉
100% I stayed away from this game due to the reviews when it first came out but recently started playing on PS NOW & its honestly one of the most fun FPS's I've ever played. The shooting & super powers is what I always wished Fallout had. Most fun single player game i've played in forever.
Lots of reviews bashed Rage 2, but I had a feel it's not the case, so I gave it a go. And man, oh man. It's not a "10" game and for sure has it's issues, but shooting wasn't so satisfying in a LONG time. Guns feel really meaty and tough enemies aren't bullet sponges, but rather there's a weight in tearing down their armor. My biggest issues so far are driving mechanic which is just average and lack of mission diversity.
Rage 2 is an awesome [PC] game. My only gripe would be the record-setting confusion of key bindings. I've yet to find one that is comfortable when it comes to using all of your Abilities at the spur of the moment. The 'Q' + [key] seems to work fine for me personally. I did run out of good nearby keys to bind all the other Ablitlies to. Who in their right mind would ever bind the ALT key to any function in a game. And yet the ALT key is actually a default binding in this game. The game looks and performs phenomenally on my i8700k, AMD R9 Fury gaming rig. If you're playing the game from a M.2 NVME drive, you should definitely expect awesome start-up and load times. I've been there.
You're a top man for giving a shoutout to other smaller channels. like you said, it's difficult to get a foothold at the moment. Also as always great review
Subbed because of a good clean but technical to the point review. Also, because of the respect for calling to paying it forward for the smaller UA-camrs instead of the standard sub beggary.
I really want to see another game with a story like fallout 3 where there is moments where you can choose different people to follow whether they be good or evil, and those choices affect the other factions of the game. It makes your playthrough very individualized and helps cover up some lacking parts of the story if they exist.
So many games aren’t including followers and these devs don’t understand or are just plain lazy to see your point. I’m sick of the lone wolf bs you get depth by adding npc followers but to the devs it’s about a quick buck. It’s just plain lazy not to include them.
This is the best first person shooter and game in several years. The shooting and driving are near perfect. Highly recommended. Looks incredible too at 4k on ultra.
@@0hkie Nope, the combat in this game is awesome. I agree the story is a little lacking but it makes up for it with the shooting controls and fight scenes.
The world design is great but they made it too big. That problem was exacerbated because the driving, especially early on, was very lackluster. With all that being said I love the game with all of its flaws and I truly hope the studio understands how close they got to greatness and comes out with a sequel.
@@LoomisPC Rage 2 felt really short and it was quite lackluster if you remembered it 2 years ago but the gunplay is solid and the car combat is also great but you have no reason to do them after you do them once or twice, it’s a 6/10 or 7/10 at best

I absolutely love this game so far. It’s pure fun. But the 1080p resolution on the Xbox One X threw me off at first. I seriously thought something was wrong with my tv, xbox, or game. I hope we get 4K at 30 FPS soon. After a couple years of playing at 4K it seriously sucks going back to 1080p

Bethesda hides BFG 9000 behind a $20 paywall for a Deluxe Edition. I will just wait until 2 expansions are released and get the whole thing on sale in late fall.
ThrustmasterD I would imagine this game is fun but how I’m looking at it is there is no multiplayer which might not matter as much to some but I’m just gonna wait for borderlands 3
Been playing this for the past 2 to 3 days. It's really a blast to play. I like that the protagonist do have a voice and talks like a mercenary/soldier. I'm a bit cheap when it comes to bases though, basically bombard and shoot the heck out of it with my phoenix before going in on foot haha. But loved it.
Turn off anti aliasing when playing at 4k. Native 4k is sharp enough to keep edges clear of jaggies. The only time you might still need it is if you experience flickering. You probably could have had a nice 60 fps at 4k with the AA off.

Rage 2 is made by ID Software/ Avalanche Studios, Bethesda hasn’t touched this one, thank god.
@@sna1466 Bethesda is online the publisher
Dope review.....and I'm actually going reinstall Mad Max bc of this.. I'm only 45% done....
I absolutely loved that game. Got the Plantinum trophy. Went in with 0 expectations.
Great game shitty ending
Agree about happy console gamer. His videos are really good
That guy never says a negative thing hardly lol
Positivity brings success.
Really nice to see the shout outs to the smaller channels. You are an International Treasure
The controls are appropriate for the genre and are relatively intuitive (you can customize them with different presets and also remap button functions on Xbox One)
The combat is outstanding in this game. The bugs have been minor. (one bandit, during a side quest, got stuck in a pile of junk during my merciless onslaught on their base 😎; and that's the only one I'm aware of that occured, thus far)
The characters are engaging enough, given the context, to compell me to accomplish the next task; don't expect rpg character depth here. (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, etc.)
There's a variety of fun and engaging things to do in the game world.
@@colinsmith6448 NEVER listen to reviews as they are just opinions
Lots of reviews bashed Rage 2, but I had a feel it's not the case, so I gave it a go. And man, oh man. It's not a "10" game and for sure has it's issues, but shooting wasn't so satisfying in a LONG time. Guns feel really meaty and tough enemies aren't bullet sponges, but rather there's a weight in tearing down their armor. My biggest issues so far are driving mechanic which is just average and lack of mission diversity.
Try alternating from the boost to the accelerator. The vehicle is fine after that. Reminds me of ME: Andromeda.
Game looks amazing to me, definitely going to buy it.
Awesome that you shouted out HCG, he deserves it.
I LOVE the bright colors as you said. It’s such a nice touch. The art style is so cool in this game.
The only review I've been waiting for. Thanks, ACG!
For real, I dont even read any others!
@@driverman9528 do you trust him more then yourself? 😉
GeneralMig so are you buying or??
@@0hkie I forgot how your opinion is more factual than someone else's? Piss off let him state his mind, you ain't happy with his opinion then get out
@@0hkie Nope, the combat in this game is awesome. I agree the story is a little lacking but it makes up for it with the shooting controls and fight scenes.
This is seriously one of the most fun games I have ever played. Also, the world design ... it's amazing! I do not get the bad reviews.
The world design is great but they made it too big. That problem was exacerbated because the driving, especially early on, was very lackluster.
With all that being said I love the game with all of its flaws and I truly hope the studio understands how close they got to greatness and comes out with a sequel.
How many games you played tho? Just over a dozen?
@@edgelessspace7180 hundreds and hundreds. big gamer.
@@LoomisPC Rage 2 felt really short and it was quite lackluster if you remembered it 2 years ago but the gunplay is solid and the car combat is also great but you have no reason to do them after you do them once or twice, it’s a 6/10 or 7/10 at best
You sir, just earned yourself a subscriber. Such an in-depth review that’s lacking in some of the mainstream publications. You talk like you actually PLAYED the game. Who’d have thought that was important! Lol keep it up bro. I look forward to your future content
Borderlands:Epileptic Seizures Edition
Stumbled onto this channel and i got to give you props ACG you seem like a legit gamer and reviewer that reminds me of TB, RIP. Subbed for sure. Keep up the great content.
Good guy Karak, gives shoutouts to smaller UA-camrs who deserve more subs.
MrRykage FlipFlopGod is also a small UA-camr that is a good guy
Excellent review. You are the only reviewer I watch now as the major gaming websites have not got a clue what they are talking about. Keep up the good work.
Man I love your reviews. Only review I really ever care about. So glad I preordered and preinstalled this one on One X, can’t wait to get into it!
Digital huh?.. you are whats wrong with gaming..
@delta games For going digital or preordering?
I have no clue what that guy is talking about.
Yep, 100% digital this gen on both PS4 and Xbox. Only games I still buy physical are Switch.

Good job, sharing another content creator and mentioning the difficulty peeps are having getting seen! You rock!
You're on Trending for gaming in Australia mate! Love the reviews
Telling people to go find a small UA-camr to sub to is honestly a very wholesome thing to do. Keep on being an awesome dude
Thanks Karak, I was on the fence about this game but thanks to your review I decided to purchase the game. I am having an absolute blast so far. Here's to you! :-)
I think that's awesome that you always tell people to go help out a smaller Channel. Amazing stuff dude been following you for years
You make the best reviews around buddy. Objective facts & honest assessment. Cheers
Nice one mentioning Happy console gamer. It's cool that he actually seems to LIKE games. I find many critics to be too critical/negative.

MAD MAX was one of my fave games. This looks like a decent next step but I REALLY wish you could play 3rd person and have some cool melee moments too. Thank you ACG for the always amazing and trustworthy reviews.
I properly get the game when it's on sale.
At the moment, I got too many games and that my number one problem.
You are right man, there are very few games like this which doesn't get boring. This is the one of game you'll never get bored of. Subscribed!
Right on, brother!
There's this one small gaming UA-camr I think really deserves a shout-out from you!
He's this really funny half Chinese, half German guy you've probably never heard of before.
Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge another creator during the channel plug, respect!
This is the first video of yours that I've come across and I've gotta say that it's insanely detailed and to the point! Really refreshing to see. You've got yourself a sub my good sir.
When I found this guy , I stopped listening to all other reviews . You will stop very soon as well
He's probably the best game reviewer out there right now
What a great guy promoting another channel, always respectable ACG

Johnny Millennium is great. I love listening to his stories. He's about the same age as my older brothers and it feels like I'm listening to them recount their tales of youth. One of my favorite channels on the 'tube.
I just love shooters that aren’t so slow. The trademark ID fast paced shooting and lack of long rage weapons was an instant selling point for me.
If I want an interesting story I’ll just go watch a movie or read a book😂😂
this review really helped me make a purchase decision gonna buy it in the next 2 to 3 weeks depending on when im free.
@@djay3647 The game would have been a little better if it had Co-op
Mario Badia Yea this game will be dead when Borderlands 3 is released lol
Did you get it now that it's on sale?
Mad Max was fun as hell and the first RAGE game was really good, so looking forward to playing this one.
Chill pal everyone has their own opinion
I bought it I've invested about 8 hours into this so far and yea it's a decent game I'm enjoying it, good luck
Rage 1 was good but in the ending part you could see that they ran out of money or time .
Love the upgrade system. Great review again! Thank goodness for Nightmare Mose also.
This game looks really fun, I'm going to give it a try.
oh yeah yeah
Turn off anti aliasing when playing at 4k. Native 4k is sharp enough to keep edges clear of jaggies. The only time you might still need it is if you experience flickering.
You probably could have had a nice 60 fps at 4k with the AA off.
Great review man! You will always be my go to unbiased game review outlet. Thank you for being you. Love ya buddy
Darryl Campbell If you think any review is “unbiased” I have a bridge to Asgard to sell you. Every reviewer has biases; it’s just a matter of their biases aligning with yours.
@@TrevCCook Man.. A guy can't even give a content creator high praise anymore these days lol I'm glad you felt the need to express your opinion and I'll agree that the word unbiased is subjective but go read the ign review of days gone and compare it to ACG's. Just wanna say, I really appreciate how much work you put into these reviews, it shows :) Keep up the good work!
Game would of been much better had there been a 2 player coop option. This game is just screaming for a friend to tag along blowing everything up.

Maybe I missed it but what was the final rating for console? I heard the buy for PC, but I'm curious to see if the problems only worsened passed the resolution and framerate drops for console.
LoVeL355 I play on the PS4 slim and it runs smoothly👍🏻
Xbox One X here and it runs great even with all the carnage unfolding on-screen.
Cool, thanks for the info. I play on the PS4 Pro so it should be good then.
Cheers for the review Karak. Just beat RAGE 1 again for a refresh and think i might have to pick this up. Was a bit weary, saw some streamers not liking it very much but as long as the combat is great and the wingsticks are still badass i'm all about it.
While Rage isn't my game, this definitely gets me more excited for DOOM Eternal.
The fun from killing is same level as doom. And there's same problem that was with doom that gameplay videos don't even grasp the fun you having from shooting
