When it looks so nice & drives so well why the need for radical change? Doesn’t make sense - so much more attractive than comparable BMW/Mercs etc. Also too much change dates the previous models a lot!

I don't know if that is true in the United States. People are still buying alot of ICE Mercedes and BMW. You rarely see AR. For a brand that is not selling well they can not afford to have the same basic looking sedan on the market for 7 years. They should have completely redesigned this car for 2023.

As an giulia owner for the last 4 years, I don’t think there being washed out at all. It’s easy for people to say who don’t own one or have owned one. Still the best looking saloon on the road. I think a lot of problems come from the typical ‘Alfa aren’t reliable’. Never had an issue with my 2 over the years. I’m glad there’s not heaps on the road like bmw/Mercedes/Audis. There all missing out without a doubt.

I usually don't care about what reviewers write especially in the USA. They have shot down Alfa's especially the Giulia since 2017. They complain about virtually every thing. It is almost like they get paid by the Germans to do that.
Anyway, I am on my 8th Alfa. My current 2023 Giulia Veloce has not skipped a beat as yet.

Going to echo everyone else as someone who recently got an Estrema (carbon bits, adaptive suspension, darker wheels). It’s a shame there isn’t an in between 6 cylinder engine. I need AWD so Quad isn’t really an option, and it’s a lot of money.
The perfect car would be a Giulia with 350-400hp in a great sounding V6. If we’re really talking, a Giulia sport wagon with a V6.

Another great video Stef. I've always wondered about the difference in price between this and the quadrafoglio. £30k? But at the end of the day, this isn't a step down, as in a poorer engine ruining a great car, but a good engine in a great car?

Who gives a damn about the reversing camera? Talk about an issue we care about. I agree, however, that Alfa should have more and sooner with the facelift. Why would the company have invested all that money in this excellent platform and then ignored it? Makes no sense except that its visionary (Marchioni) has passed away.

The Giulia followed the same path as the 147, 156, Mito and Giulietta - all 10 year+ models with minor tweaks. The 939 Series Alfas would have been too but for the GM elements, and were killed at 6 years, many say too early. The Giulia is an utterly sensational car, I'm on my 3rd - the new Competizione looked great, BUT. Now they are so expensive and lease deals slashed, I bought a used Giulia Quadrifoglio instead. And SO glad i did!!!! WHAT a car - we won't see the same again. Get them while you can.

I don’t think Stellantis has given up on the Giulia. It just hasn’t finished it’s lifecycle yet. If you look at Alfa’s sisterbrand Maserati, they are now in the mids of converting their models to electric. Maseratis models are about 3 years ahead of Alfa in the product cycle so to me it makes total sense that the Giulia and Stelvio would reach that stage a few years later.

Thanks, enjoyed this video. Very matter-of-fact and clear. The Giulia has a lot stacked against it, especially at the price. When I bought my Veloce in 2020, the list price was just under £40,000 which means the road tax is tiny but now the prices are about 50 K they’re in the higher road tax bracket. It’s small things like that which might put people off upgrading to the new model, it has for me. The infotainment upgrades are not much to worry about, if you’ve got Apple play it’s probably good enough. The worst things about this car are lack of dealerships, the mpg is never anywhere near 37 mpg, more like 25. Apart from having to press the damned Engine cut-off switch every time I start it up and the loud beeps when you unlock the door it’s very close to a perfect car.

Hey Stef! Great video, as always. Alfa freak myself. We recently purchased a Maserati Grecale Trofeo - we’ve been trying for over four years to test drive a QV (both Stelvio and Guilia) to no avail for where we live (central Scotland). We then looked at buying German cars, then Maserati. Masser is good, but can’t get the Guilia QV out of my head, or heart. Just don’t think I’m a suv person in all honesty. Anyhoo, going on a bit here. What worried me was your comments about the Guilia and lack of interest from Alfa themselves. We all know Guilia will change/be removed over the next few years, but now having Grecale I think we would be moving out of it in 12mths time, with the view to buying a QV - either a demo or nearly new with the spec hubby and I want. I’m just not sure if this will be an option now 🤷‍♀️???? What are your thoughts?

I love it, it’s plenty quick enough and drives beautifully.
It’s a shame if they’re are giving up on it but as an owner it is rare, beautiful and even now at almost 5 years old it’s gets admiring glances and comments.

The mentality of needing a better backup camera or thinking things like that are essential is the reason why this car isn’t selling (other than brand image). Some people are still saying give Alfa couple of more years to catch up. But the thing is, compare for the other brands like bmw, Mercedes, etc. Giulia is already behind on technology, and engine.
Even the bmw’s entry model X1 has got all the latest techs like 360 camera, auto parking, heads up display, gesture control etc. in fact I personally don’t care about these techs, but the point is other brands are offering a bigger package to the broader market. And not to mention other brands have intermediate trim like m performances which equipped with B58, a engine that is both efficient and powerful and has tons of tuning potential.
I truly think Giulia has more personality and style, but at the end of day, the fate of a car is decided by the majority in the market, not us car enthusiasts. Even from a marketing stand point of view, the new giulia doesn’t sounds as exciting as other brands. Because nothing important was changed, the camera is still bad and infotainment system is still lagging

All they need to do is leave the mechanics of the car untouched and add cameras and redesign the dash of the car. Make it have 12.3" infotainment high resolution screen with surround view. Make the dash with leather and high end soft touch plastics and add a small feature like digital rear view mirror with high resolution reversing camera and it will start selling in droves. I test drove a Giulia quadrafoglio in 2019 and never ended up buying it and it is because north of 80K USD, the interior was showing hard plastics all over. If anyone sits inside the car, they will never think it costs more than $45 USD as it's interior is subpar.
One more comment. Since it is not selling, isn't that the reason why company should invest in what can make it better selling ? Look for what your potentially buyer needs are. You already nailed exterior design and performance. All Guilia and Stelvio lack are interior dash looks. Isn't that the easiest fix for any car manufacturer to deal with ?

  • @23Piccolina
    @23Piccolina 11 місяців тому

Stef, its all simple and clear to me. Once Sergio Marchionne passed away.....the slow death of Alfa Romeo began. Stellantis could care less about the Italian brands Alfa and Maserati. There have been confirmed rumors for the past few years that Stellantis is looking for a buyer for the two brands. That would most likely come from Korea or China. Alfa's new Giorgio platform and the $5 billion euro factory FCA built in Cassino Italy to build the Giulia and Stelvio was all the idea of Sergio! He's gone and now the brand flounders. The last thing Alfa needed was another SUV and there are even plans for a smaller SUV (Made in Poland) coming? Insanity! Alfa has been a sports car brand and what they need is a two door coupe Giulia and convertible. Something very cool and stylish for under $50k. Instead, Jean-Phillippe spends his days at all you can eat buffets while Alfa Romeo disappears from the world stage.

Well for one thing is that everyone knows thaat the same old car without a redesign does not spark any interest with consumers. Automakwrs use to completely rededign a car every 5 years for that reason. The other thing is that Alfa had not done enough to shed their "unreliable" image. They could do better if they invest more in their products. Take Kia/Hyundai they were they were the worse cars 30 years ago. People would laugh at you if you drove a Kia. They have revamped there image and everyone buys them. One thing Hyumdai did is they invested in their product line and they backed their cars with a 10 year 100k warranty. That gave consumers the confidence to buy their cars. Alfa Romeo needs to do the same thing! They have to improve consumer opininon about their vehicles.

You're right Stef, and maybe better so. The Giulia was never a pretty Alfa, far from the 156 the GT and the 166. If you look at all the photo's and speculations of how it was suppose to look before it came out, 4 years too late - They were all much better looking than the final design. For me it was a shame and not worthy, with elements of the BMW 3, and 2. No wonder it didn't succeed. Let's hope Alfa will wake the fck up and design an Alfa we are all waiting for.
