Nice trick! I figured I could use hose clamps for this, bit couldn't figure out how to attach the cage to the clamps. Beautifully simple method. Thank you!
Nice work. I fed 85mm of heat-shrink tubing round the mounting strip of the hose clamp prior to mounting it, looked a little tider on the dark frame I was using.
Thanks! I originally did this on a mountain bike that I was doing a 40 mile cross country race with, but it only had mounting screws for one bottle cage. I kinda wanted a couple bottles for that distance. :)
Much appreciated. After watching your vid on how to clean/oil the chain, I bought the Park tool chain cleaner. Hoping it will give a little extra life to the chain. Thanks again.
You can get stainless steel bands intended specifically for this. They're not as easy to find these days though. Try going through vintage/retro bike people like Velo-Orange or Rivendell. They usually seek out these harder-to-find items.
Thanks for the video. I have an old steel frame that I am hoping to resurrect into a rando bike. It doesn't have cage mounts so I wasn't sure whether it would be any good. Now I can go ahead and turn it into a useful bike afterall :)
It is realy helpfull... I will do with my grand childs bikes....one of their bike does not have holes on the frame. Tq Btw, I watch some of your videos they all realy inspiring...
Thanks for the video. I bought a Schwinn Mirada last year and it has the mounting screws but they are on the bottom tube facing the ground, next to the pedals and the chains. This would make your water bottle nasty and dirty if you would go through a puddle or mud.
My bike has tubes that aren't circular/round. They're more of a oval shape. Will I be able to get the hose clamp to fit on tightly? (If it helps, my bike is a Next PX 6.0.)
Thank you for making this video -- I am going to try this. I have two bottle cages, but desperately in need of a third (and possibly a fourth, maybe under the seat). Again, thanks for the useful tip. Cheers.
Thank ya! I’ll be doing this. My bike is now all deckt out in cool gear, but it only had the ability to hold a single water bottle. I need at least two if I’m to survive the Summer heat. Even tho it’s been mostly cool and wet out. Haha. But still, I don’t want anything to get in the way of enjoying a bike ride.
Sir, I always search your content if I got trouble for my bike, you are my tutor. may I ask, I have a chromolie frame bike..but it doesn't have screws hole for bottle cage and bracket for shifter and brake lines..if i drill the frame for make a hole, would it be critical problem for long term? I try googling it but i can't find the answer. Thank you.. Sorry if my english bad..
One used to be able to buy little, preformed stainless or chromed steel clamps specifically for this job. Still had a screw and a nut on the back of each clamp, but much nicer than hose clamps. Might look for them online. One problem: the clamps fit a fairly narrow diameter range. Need to have different clamps for different diameters.
Hi shyflirt I have a bike with no cage, do most cages come with tabs projecting out if I buy it online is it pretty standard? Also thanks because life is short I'd rather have a great relationship with my bike and be adiy guy. The bike store probably charges more than an hours pay and I'll get it done in 30 minds including shopping
Not all cages have the tabs like this. Some do, some don't. You will have to look around. Plastic ones probably won't, so look for aluminum ones. That will narrow it down some.
I just found this, it's an old video. I wanted to see if I could make my old Raleigh Routier look a bit better, after 35 years. I actually bought a plastic mounting kit in a shop in Eindhoven about 10 years ago. I sort of neglected it for the last 2 years.
Euro clamps are more friendly where the actual mechanism is.....so less damage to the tape/bike. It's the same worm gear principle but they're made so that the clamps don't gouge into the surface they serve.
There are specially made steel (often chrome plated) straps for exactly this purpose. A cheap bottle cage from a department store should include some (at least, that's how it is here in New Zealand)
Nice, I like it! But tell me, is this tape you put around the downtube enough to avoid any damage on it? On my bicycle I put the bottle cage on the handlebar, like old school :D
ok, but I have the braze-ons? so I need to figure it this way. I am editing my post because after watching the video again I can explain what I need to do better. 1st. my bottle doesn't fit on my down seat so I am going to have to place it on tube facing handle bars, hope you got that, then I do have my braze ons but I also have another piece that is not familiar anywhere. However came with kit. Help me
I am not sure where you are talking about. If you have bottle mounts, use em. If not, you can try to mount a bottle someplace else. I mount it on the seat tube in the video. The down tube is also a common place for a bottle cage.
What do I do with a cage that does not have those tabs at the back sticking up and down behind (at 15 sec on the time line)? My cage has just two holes and a supplied screw with an allen head :-(
RJ The Bike Guy Any tips for a larger diameter frame? My downtube is square and thick, my initial idea was burly zipties, I don't wanna risk crushing it with the clamps.

great tips! thanks
1st video I've seen of RJ's showing his identity.
Face reveal!

Great job probably the best cycling UA-cam channel that does not include advertising. Keep them coming
I got an ad? I mean those ads help creators, is giving them 5 seconds for helping you fix up bike so bad?
I am from india. I love masi vintage bikes and you are my favorite bike youtuber in the world. RJ THE BIKE GUY AWESOME SIR.....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I used your idea on my single speed bike. Works beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing!
Going to be doing the same thing, tired of stopping to drink from my bottle and pulling out of my backpack in the summer especially.
That's no ordinary old bike that's a Schwinn!!! Nice!
pedallin raw Schwinn makes very nice and reliable bikes.
I recognized it as well, about to apply this same modification to my own (newly repurposed) Schwinn.
Much appreciated. After watching your vid on how to clean/oil the chain, I bought the Park tool chain cleaner. Hoping it will give a little extra life to the chain. Thanks again.
Simple yet effective. Thanks for the ingenius little hack.
How do you call the metal clamps that you screwed around the tubes? Is there an exact name for them? Thanks for this video.
I had a Sports Tourer for a while. A fairly respectable frame.
dude thanks, i found one of those things in my dad's toolbox. I tightened it and fit nice and snug! thanks again
Been searching for a way to do this! Still brilliant 11 years later!
Helpful, I was going to return my mount. Glad I kept it!
Thankyou for sharing this idea.
I hope it has longevity for many miles: I will give it a try.
Thanks for the idea. I'll be mounting mine tomorrow!
Works a treat, many thanks. Much better than winding gaffa tape around the cage - my previous method.
Hose clamps. I got them at a hardware store (Home Depot or Lowes). You can probably also find them at an auto parts store.
I bought the cage at the local bike shop and the hose clamps at Home Depot.
Great idea! Simple and effective. Thank you for sharing this.
GENIUS! THANKS!!!!! GREAT SOLUTION!! THANK YOUU!!
simple yet brilliant. Solved a problem for my 1975 bike
You can get stainless steel bands intended specifically for this. They're not as easy to find these days though. Try going through vintage/retro bike people like Velo-Orange or Rivendell. They usually seek out these harder-to-find items.
Worked great, thanks!!
Dude! Genius solution, thanks!!
Thanks for the video. I have an old steel frame that I am hoping to resurrect into a rando bike. It doesn't have cage mounts so I wasn't sure whether it would be any good. Now I can go ahead and turn it into a useful bike afterall :)
Thank you. This method will work for my air bike.
It is realy helpfull...
I will do with my grand childs bikes....one of their bike does not have holes on the frame. Tq
Btw, I watch some of your videos they all realy inspiring...
You, sir, are a genius!
...and all this time I was using those dopey little straps that came
with the bottle/cage. Not once did I ever think of using hose clamps.
Durrrrr....
Schwinn! Thanks for an easy no drilling hack, already have all the parts.
Thanks for the video. I bought a Schwinn Mirada last year and it has the mounting screws but they are on the bottom tube facing the ground, next to the pedals and the chains. This would make your water bottle nasty and dirty if you would go through a puddle or mud.
I have seen bikes that have an extra mounting spot down there. Not the primary spot though.
You sir, are a genius. Thank you.
Would those claps rust?
Hi what is the silver thing used to hold the bottle cage called?
My bike has tubes that aren't circular/round. They're more of a oval shape. Will I be able to get the hose clamp to fit on tightly? (If it helps, my bike is a Next PX 6.0.)

Sorry if my english bad..
This is what you want for the bottle cage mount: ua-cam.com/video/qNLo2rIw5M8/v-deo.html
For the cables, you want clamp on cable guides.
Thank you, very helpful!
Excellent. Thank you 😊. Great idea.
Seems like our phones and TVs are smart these days and we are not.
Can u do same with sip ties
Handlebar mounts are available also. I prefer them because you don't have to look down and take your eyes off the road when retirieving a bottle.
Great idea! Thanks for posting this!
HI, nice tip, i think we can also use zip tie or velcro. this seem much sturdy though. i am concerned about these getting rusted though
I am guessing your bottle cage will slide all over the place. Good luck!
thanks to your video, now I can pick my bottle cage anywhere I ride
At Lowe’s buying clamps now. Thank you!
where should i put on my Monaco Explorer ? what is the metal bit (the ring) called ? this is a very good video!
Put it where you want it and where it will fit. The clamps are called hose clamps. You can find them at hardware or even auto part stores.
Thank you very much! Will it slide down from the electric tape?
kam ho Tsai No. The tape is just to keep the clamps from scratching the paint.

It is possible to remove the plastic ring from the metal structure of the bottle cage?
This is a good idea. Thank you for your suggestion.

really cool. easy on easy off makes no holes.
Cool video, going to give it a try on my ccm formula
awesome idea. thank you for sharing
Brilliant! Thank you!
WHERE EXATCLY DID YOU GET THIS ? I NEED ONE ASAP PLEASE !
Put the hose clamps UNDER the shift cable.
Wow! Brilliant!

Genius good sir ! 🫡✅

On my bicycle I put the bottle cage on the handlebar, like old school :D
Sorry.. I meant seat tube :D
Emmanuel Hidd I had no markings. Add more layers if you'd like.
hm ok, I see :D .. maybe I try it too!
Super neat! Thanks for sharing
Very cool homemade solution. Love it.
What is the name of the metal thing which you use
Hose clamp? Screw driver? Bottle cage?
You're a good man.
wow! Thanks for the info, rather use this than velcro straps.
Bro superb thank you
This is very useful. Thanks a million...
ok, but I have the braze-ons? so I need to figure it this way. Thanks bud. I think you just saved me from ruining my frame!
thank you, very helpful!
cable ties come in handy also for mud guards
Brilliant idea
From Indonesian thank ypu mr
Very smart idea
Exacto lo que buscaba 😊
Good idea

Get a cage like the one in the video.
Good idea with the electrical tape to protect the frame. Yucko on the hose clamps. There has GOT to be a better solution.
Great Idea, thanks for sharing.
good job !
Where did you get bottle?
Local bike shop.
Thanks man. Really useful.
hey man, do you thing this would work for mtb? I mean if that thing could keep standing up thanks
Yes, I originally did this to add a second bottle cage to one of my mountain bikes.
shyflirt1 thanks a lot! I'll try.
RJ The Bike Guy Any tips for a larger diameter frame? My downtube is square and thick, my initial idea was burly zipties, I don't wanna risk crushing it with the clamps.
You could possibly pre-bend the clamps to match the square frame. This other video might be of interest: ua-cam.com/video/qNLo2rIw5M8/v-deo.html
thanks for the idea
Excellent!
Good video. I'm going to use heavy duty zipties👍
You can try. I don't think they will be nearly as solid.
This will help me because my bike has braze-ons but the previous owner broke screws off inside them!

Thanks shyflirt1! Awesome!
Smart guy
thanks! great idea.
are you related to heath Robinson RJ ?
No. Don't even know who that is.
Perfect video!
helpful, thanks
