Nice work, I have a nice stash of second timbers myself and am eager on putting them to good use...
Did you factor in fuel in car to pick up pallet running cost of your power tools and how much money you have clawed back from the initial spend of your power tools to do these jobs.
Beautiful! You did great with recycled materials too! You are great for our Earth!😊❤️ Thank you!
What kind of planer is that man?
Favorite part of the video.
"That must be McKenzie"
"Definitely not a woman"
She came with you to protect your chastity. lol Cute interaction
I turned a 2300.00 desk into a palate once. I used a crowbar and I still have some community service hours to complete.
Funny guy. You write for guys that watch pallets videos and that’s ok

@@hak1985org thx!
I’m far more impressed by the fact you got $1200 for it than the build itself.
it's a video of him grifting an individual
This... who ever paid 1200 for that has more money then he knows what to do with it...
You market to people who is wealthy enough to think $1200 is small change. I bet he would have paid even more.

It’s a nice table for sure. But I’m more impressed that you found someone willing to hand over $1200 for it lol. I guess there really is “one” born every minute 😂
I mean, the man was obviously extremely wealthy so he probably didn’t care that much. Still absurd to think about that tho
😂😂😂
@@chase86903 wealthy people spend all their time making money and keeping their hands clean and end up being rather skillless and embarrassed, so they will pay for knowledgeable creativity and construction
There were many labor hours that went into it as well though
@@Lifecomesfromwithin Not $1,200 worth. Yes I know because I've been doing carpentry since the age of about seven or eight, so almost 30 years now. I cut down my own trees and process my own wood from the 300ish acres set I have that was passed down from my family to me and then I make all sorts of tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, jewelry & boxes. You name it, I make it and I wouldn't ever in a million years charge somebody $1,200 for this even if I could find somebody that is dumb enough to pay that much. I have a moral foundation in which I don't take advantage of people. This guy doesn't.
Making the desk is pretty easy; making a nice one, quickly DOES take some skill and expertise; HOWEVER, the REALLY amazing part of this is finding someone willing to pay $1200 dollars for it!
Yeah seriously 🤣
in my city this desk will sell for 120$ xD max
sucker born every day
No shot that guy payed 1200😂😭😭😭
He knows the guy and he's getting his pic in a UA-cam video. He's essentially paying for vanity.
Chuck it on eBay, without referencing the UA-cam video and without linking UA-cam videos to the auction, and see what the offers are. Id wager nobody puts in an offer higher than $200
as a furniture maker all i can say is "people no longer understand what quality is" you found a sucker when you sold it for that.
Lol really did. Not to take away from his work...
Those legs, and 20 minutes to attach them. Very cheap and hokey.
He should have made place matt's out of his own faeces and sold them with the table for an extra 100 bucks👌

$1200 😳 I have a nice oversized custom cherry wood desk that I had a carpenter build me and it only cost $750. It has 4 drawers, enclosed on 3 sides, and the tabletop is 4'×3'. I guess things really are worth whatever someone is willing to pay.
Yeah he could also say he sold it for whatever he wants he doesn't prove the price he got shows text messages that I could easily get someone to fake.... all for a few views that's where he's trying to make money he surely didn't really make that much off that table people are gullible
cad ? usd ? yeah still expensive, but it looks like they're in canada and its like 30% difference in currency
He under valued himself and you got a deal. Be grateful instead of bashing craftsman online.
@@hopefully2224 He's been a carpenter for 30 years, he knows the value of things and himself. He doesn't rip people off, that's for sure.
Blacktail Studios couldnt get $1200 for that, and he's massively in demand.
This is the cheapest looking $1200 table I've ever seen.
🤣🤣
Someone was willing to pay that for it, and apparently, that's what really counts, not some objectively calculated added value.
Keep supporting our current, hegemonic economic system, and this shit will never end.
you’re not only paying for the table you also pay to have an entire video made about the construction of your table
@@alexsmith5274 Thanks for agreeing with my premise while at the same time, correcting me on the specifics.
Yes, that's added value through the additional labor of recording the whole thing under high production standards, including post production editing and whatnot.
It's added labor value, there's no way around it, in fact, his addition of labor value with the video, has made me post comments, which in turn makes the algorithm work and make for the channel to reach further.
This comment is what made me decided to sub to the channel. The sheer diss 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
$1200! Mackenzie is a customer you want to keep 😅 Well done Morley - earning that from a pallet is no mean feat.
It's not hard to scam people
@@ML-sc3pt ?
@@ReclaimDesign This dude scammed Mackenzie. Straight up.
Way overpriced for a desk that doesn't have anything remotely different than what would count as a dining room table or coffee table.
There are $800 dining tables that have a built-in Leaf that has intricate gears, hand-laid inlay, and very tight tolerances.
The work this Morley did was maybe worth $400 tops and that is only because of how much time he put into it.
@@krisbright3227 A scam is when you lie or trick someone into doing something. Did he lie or trick her? Or did she just believe his work was worth more than you believe it was?
@@WillWilliams-vo4nkHe lied by saying that it was worth over a thousand dollars.
Actually quite happy you show how long it takes - I always underestimate my wood work projects, by a lot, and I don't really have a frame of reference 😅
I am still shocked that someone would pay $1200 for a small desk or any desk for that matter. Nice build though.
@Tee Hee That and "reclaimed wood". If you see "reclaimed wood", there's heavy mark-up. =S
I would pay no more than $150 for that
$130 ON AMAZON BABYYYYY
its just because he is a youtuber, otherwise no one would pay that much for it, it doesn't even look that great, I mean its not bad, but not remotely close to what you can buy with 1200$...
@@glub1381 well you really have to understand the time and effort into creating this.
The Hand crafted desk this man has created I guarantee is far more sturdy & rugged compared to any Ikea or other brands out there.
It’s scary knowing that when walking around Toronto, there may be people I walk past who are financially stable enough to buy a 1.2k desk
Dude I just spent $2k on a used toolbox in BC and I got a pretty stellar deal. Now if I wanted build my own work table, and that's build it my self. That's like $5k and I'm not counting my own labour. But on the other hand my $2k toolbox is a lot more functional than that bullshit joke of a pallet table.
Not only spent $1200....but spent $1200 on a $1000 asking price! :D
I throw away skids like these daily lmao
@Garnet Holman you're absolutely right! I've lived in Toronto all my life and you can walk down your neighboring street and your neighbor could be a coke head living in utter filth or they could be someone just moving in to the newly renovated line of town houses that are all 100%identical on a street across from a line of tiny dinky houses that look like tool sheds beside these 3 story mansions. Its Toronto; idk why they seemed surprised theres rich and poor living amongst eachother lol!
I'd rather fork that out for something natural then get one of these ikea saw dust products for $300. You could also DIY fo-fwee!
Here's a pro tip for you. Use wire snips to extract nails with no head on them. And staples and stuff. Squeeze hard enough to grab the nail but not too hard to cut the nail. It will work much better than pliers.
I usually just use another nail from the other side to whack it out ':)
Been working pretty well so far :D
Pallet made specially for him for this video lol
As a person who has never built anything other than legos and model cars growing up, this video (in which I stumbled upon), was so amazing for someone like myself that wants to start building this spring/summer - building a couple of toy chest for my little ones.
Awesome video!
The hardest part about this build was finding someone to pay out $1200 for that desk.
I'm a designer I buy desks at wholesale prices (my cost) that are more money, not as nice. It's a beautiful piece. Also his time as a carpenter is worth a lot. It's a skill.
Why are you so rotten Farmboy? You come across as jealous. Just stop.
I thought I was the only one. Yikes
Most if not all desks don't come with an edited video of how it was made.
@@hopefully2224 I have that skill, and I make stuff, day in, day out seven days a week.
That's the reason why I can say I would not pay more than $400 for that piece. Yes the quality is there but thats it. It's just a table top. He bought the legs so...you are saying the table top is worth $1000. Hmmmmm maybe you are in a different market than I am. Perhaps that's the answer.
This looks amazing and he put a lot of excellent work into it. But is it really worth $1200? I would think no more than $300
Well the type of wood, grain of wood, and it being handmade really helps the value. And as he said, he agreed on $1000 for the desk so it was really only a $1000 desk. It wouldn’t be worth as low as $300 just because of the wood and it being handmade.
Ofcourse, you are buying a story.
@@sappersilver7762 I've got a super nice L-shaped desk that an modern industrial look. I paid $1750 for it. I listed it for sale on craigslist for $350. It was in perfect condition like new. I couldn't even get $200 for it.
someone with a factory mass producing this exact table could cut the build time down 3 hours and sell the table for $300, and then when people come to your house they will say, “oh nice table I saw that at Costco”.
@@BrianHAviation your mistake for paying that much then. I don’t know anything about the table that you described, but you didn’t mention the type of wood, or whether it was handmade or not. Just because something looks good doesn’t mean it’s worth a lot. (Not saying that something that looks bad can be worth a lot though)
I guess it like folk paying a million dollars for a drop of paint on a canvas.
It is a work of art! One of a kind! In a hundred years they will use this video to value it on the Antiques Roadshow.

My friend worked at a plant that got material from overseas. The skids that arrived were made of teak wood. He quietly gathered skids for awhile and eventually disassembled them and made teak floors for he and his fathers' boats. (skids are another name for shipping pallets).

I usually turn pallets into camp fire wood, but this is a much more interesting option. Looks amazing!
a lot of pallets are treated with chemicals be careful to not breathe in the fumes.
Is it 1.2k worth though?
Id pay like 110 max
@@MusharnaMush he probably means like making it himself
i think we found a guy who'll pay you 1200 for a campfire..
I used to do this too! But I stopped, because pallet wood is usually treated with chemicals that are notttt good to inhale as smoke. It's not an immediate effect, but over time it might bring health issues. Take care man, and sculpt a beautiful desk!
Awesome work repurposing a old pallet. Marine varnish will last a lot longer but it off gasses a lot more because of high voc content. This is a great option I would probably choose it myself but if someone has allergies I would go with an Oil Modified waterborne like a bona finish and a satin or tongue oil hand rubbed or if you want to go European wood oil Woca makes some great products
Thanks bro for thos knowledge. Dream to DIY someday once have all the tools.
From floor refinishing experience: don’t over apply finish. 2 coats of gloss and 1 coat of satin is the best. More coats - higher chance of cracking.
sounds like it didnt dry enough before you added more coats.

I barely have the patience for 3 coats to begin with, so, now I have justification!
@@jessiejanson1528 Yeah, never too sure about that, either: I got impatient with some Rustoleum enamel spray paint on my bathroom's laundry chute flapper door & frame; there was some rust due to scratches; I did some good sanding work, and feathered it out pretty well, and first coat looked SUPER nice, but then, I noticed an area that didn't get fully coated; but I got impatient, and tried to 2nd coat it too soon, and it ~dissolved the first coat: it got all 'pruney', and started peeling off...so, had to clean off all the soft/loose stuff, let it 'cure' for a couple more days before I could sand it again, and then repaint...
It looks like a real amateur job (which, of course, it IS...), but I have a lot more work to do on that bathroom's walls, plumbing, so, maybe I'll go back at it, again, later.
At least there will be much less rusting until then: I prepped & painted inside & outside.
$1200?! I've been in the furniture industry for a decade. There's no way the value of that desk is $1200... unless you find a sucker.
Right? All he did was cut it down, sand/varnish, and buy legs off Amazon that were made in Taiwan. How that added up to 1200$ is beyond me
There's a sucker born every day, the real trick is spotting them.
its that internet clout. its not just a desk, its a desk other people on the internet wanted, but "you go it". From a modernly famous people on the internet.
It’s not just about the cost of materials; it took him 12hrs of labor. He only charged $1,000 for it. The customer basically tipped him $200. You can set your hourly rate at whatever you want when you work for yourself.
I’m guessing his hourly rate is $60.
$60 x 12hrs = $780
Plus $170 for materials = $950
And probably a $50 delivery and installation fee.
Makes sense to me.
@@aliveandwell3958 it works out mathematically but he simply ripped him off... if I bought a plain stainless steel kitchen knife from amazon for £20 then took 12 hours to put my maker's mark on it, give it a new handle, re temper it and resharpen it, no one is buying that knife for 1,200 because at the end of the day it was a £20 knife, at the absoloute max you could get £100 regardless of the fact I put 12 hours into it
That was really cool how you built that table, I think it was overpriced but get more power to you. Excellent
Not what it’s meant for but I’m using pallet wood to build cabinets and counter tops for my bus and this helped a lot gave me a lot of insight on how to get it looking great
What surprised me was how weathered and worn-looking the pallet looked. There was a store that gave me free brand new pallets for the asking that were stacked up behind the store.. Took the pallets and made shelving for my garage. I used a similar process that Morley used, but took half the time. $1200 was too much for a simple desk. He basically charged for the manhours involved, but the desk wasn't unique in design.
It was $1000 if you watched the whole video. Guy gave him a $200 tip. $85/hour with materials and delivery included for a one off handmade piece seems pretty decent honestly.....
@@nickadkins7765 yeah around here contractors charge $130 an hour just for their labor. Apprentices charge $85. It's insane.
@@nickadkins7765 yes, but for a higher level of skill. This is woodworking 101 skill.
@@ClassicCase you aren't grasping the big picture here. The guy that bought it probably has no woodworking skill OR tools. Can't have one without the other. Tools are expensive and woodworking takes time to learn. He is paying for a custom piece. The laborer is supplying his skill, time, tools, gas etc....the client is supplying a "yes i like that idea" and the agreed money to back it up. That's how a capitalistic system works. If people think someone is charging too much well they don't get paid and the business shuts down, or they make necessary changes to offer things at a more affordable price point.....regardless handmade and bespoke ANYTHING will demand a premium, not just woodworking. Hope that helps
I been to a shop that there work is high skills and I do believe that kind of table would be in that price
I think your channel size is perfect for me. Big enough to really do some cool stuff, but small enough where us common mortals can still interact with you directly. Keep this up man!
Love your content , love your enthusiasm and love of your craft. All the haters are just jealous. I’ve been working with pallets for a few years but you’ve definitely inspired me to get back at it. Keep creating and keep that smile my brother!
I use vice grips to get the short nails out, but some of them break anyway. Watching your work really gave me some ideas of how to better use the pallets I have collected.
Ive actually done this before. When i was 6-7 during my school holiday i went to a carpenter’s house that my dad knew and throughout that holiday i worked on that desk and im still using it to this day. The table top of the desk is make from a recycled pallet
I recently redid an old dresser and was super happy with the results of it. This inspired me to try out to make some kind of furniture with a pallet thank you!
Loved the video format, the table really does look amazing 😊
In order to crack apart pellets, I place a scissor car lift jack between the planks and insert a small piece of flat metal bar between the narrow side of the jack and the plank. This keeps the plank from splitting. The planks will unfold as you turn the jack. After that, you can either cut or remove the nails.
I think there’s certainly a bit of luck that comes into finding someone who is a fan of your work already and that same person sending an extra $200. You do amazing work! I’m glad it’s being recognized and that you’ve been building a demand for your brand
Don't be so gullible if you have ever built and sold furniture it doesn't sell for those prices unless you have fine quality wood like black walnut tiger maple ect i can have anyone send me a text saying they are paying this much and act like it all so I can get views on a a bunch of lies bc most people are extremely gullible when they don't know the furniture business I worked for duralee fine furniture and bernhardt in NC I'd know also why pay 1200 for a table when you can find anyone that builds furniture to do it for you for half the price Noone just overpays by that much unless it's a lie simply for UA-cam content which will make him money off the views

Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20
Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet
Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state.
“We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.)
Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)
Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894)
The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD.
Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed.
The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666
I got the high rated pallet buster with tilting feet from amazon for $53 and I gotta say... pallet boards are almost always spared from cracking and the teardown process went from like 30 minutes to 3 minutes. Seriously worth a try. Also, be sure to metal detect pallet wood after you de-nail because often times those nails were strung together with metal wire which stays imbedded in the pallet wood and can damage your blades. love the pallet videos. Subbed.
That's a good reason to tun Diablo steel blades in all your saws. If you don't hit any steel they last a long time.

+1 on the value of a metal detector for that work
I see all the “knothead” respondents claiming the desk isn’t worth the price McKenzie voluntarily paid for it. What McKenzie paid for worked out like this: $200 for materials, $1,000 for the carpenter’s experience of knowing “how” to do something, and more importantly, “why” it mattered.
You can only sand a knot so long before you must give up removing the knothead. You can’t fix stupid.
Beautiful work, great video, inspiring to say the least.
Keep up the fantastic thinking.
Great work I liked the video didn’t expect to watch it full through but glad I did awesome stuff hurt to see you break the little foothold at the bottom but it did give it some character, Blessings!
No way it sold for 1200, im a woodworker myself and I fully realise some projects just arent worth it because the time invested isn’t corresponding with the ultimate value.. that would be a 275-350 dollar desk tops
If you're a good woodworker then you devalue yourself. Your time is what is being paid for, not the product.
not even
@@OscarOliu bro this is novice level craftsmanship. Kids in shop class do more intricate work. Not worth even the 1000$ price tag.
First thing I thought after he spent 8hrs taking apart a pallet was why not save time by purchasing new wood and turn out twice as many finished products.
@@joelburke8757 I suspect the whole sales thing was a act. If this guy could turn these profits wouldn't he be driving around a new truck to move his products. This one job alone would cover the monthly payment.
Wow that time tracking is great. I wish every youtuber did that. I like to take a paint scraper to the excess glue seepage when it's slightly dry but before fully curing - much easier than sanding it all off.
now that is a useful and helpful and beautiful video.
very nice work dude
Amazing worg dude, i scrolled through youttube and found this video and i love the way you do your work and cut your videos. Normally i dont subscribed after the first video but yeah here we go i subscribed and have so much videos in future too watch. Greetings from Germany 🙂
I like that you're so happy with what you're doing there. In a world with all this stuff going on that's not so good it's good to see some happiness
I love that you’re time stamping everything. As someone who struggles with adult ADD, time management is one of the most difficult things to overcome when trying to learn a new skill. Every other creator except for some of AlmFabs videos does not really say how long they spend doing something, which is a bit misleading for someone about to try the same thing. Great video
THIS 🙌🤙
So your add literally means you pass on ALL things that require a time frame of large scales? im trying to understand how thats not just lazy, instead of actually ADD... fellow ADD person asking... because the option of redirection is a thing
Adult ADD huh? Grow up.
@@Bozwald you don't grow out of ADHD/ADD. It's literally a different wiring in your brain. Thats like telling autistic people to stop being autistic, because FYI ADHD/ADD is a neurodevelopmental condition, just like autism is. ADHD is behaviours and traits that are the result of a person's brain developing differently during the key stages of development before they were born or as a very young child. How about you just go change the literal function on your brain, big guy! Go back to school and take a science class.

This is a great channel. Thank you for posting videos. I really enjoy them. I should say this one. I haven’t watch the other ones yet but look forward to it. Have you thought about possibly adding a GFI or replacing an outlet with a GFI that way if you blow it you can reset it right there at the outlet you probably know about that anyway but thanks for your time.
Great work! The video is so lovely and the desk is amazing!
Beautiful work!
On cutting through the nail though - I have a story to tell. My father used to build a lot of furniture with reclaimed lumber. He’d put an ad in the paper as a “demolition man”, and offer to take down old barns, fences, etc. for free if he could keep the wood. When I was about 5 years old, he reached a similar point to where you got with one stubborn nail.
He decided to persevere, and cut through on his little Makita table saw. He put on his goggles, pushed the board forward, and the nail dislodged itself, and shot straight back at him, puncturing his glasses and his skull at the temple.
He proceeded to walk into the house, dazed, and my Mom freaked out. We got him to the ER, and the neurosurgeon there told him he was lucky to be alive. He told him that the only thing the surgeon could do was pull out the nail, and pray that nothing went wrong. He yanked out the nail with some pliers, and my father survived it, though he never recovered his sight properly in that eye.
Having seen this, I do not run boards with nails through any table saw. It’s simply not worth it.
Wow! Glad your dad was o.k. I have run some re-claimed boards through the table saw by mistake with pieces of nails I didn't see. Heard a chunk fly out at warp speed, thank goodness...
thank you for the story! very sorry for your dads incident but the story will help many others stay safe! much appreciated for effort you took to post.
I wouldn't even pay 300 for that lmao. I better get an entire oak corner desk for 1200

thank you so much for sharing this method with !
Fantastic! Gorgeous desk for a really incredible view! So nice the buyer gave you a tip☺️
It's fake, what desk has no drawers, it's just a giant chopping board
If you get a pallet where all you really want to salvage is the planks (more common with skids) you can use a reciprocating saw with a thin "demo" blade between the planks and beams and cut the nails; removing the wood you want very quickly. If you use a cordless version you can do it on site where you find the pallet and make the entire pallet take up less room in your vehicle. I punch the nails out from the cut side, with a springloaded center punch usually just one or two taps knock them out.
YES! The the absolute best way to do it. I used to struggle with a flat bar and hammer trying to break them down, then, I saw someone doing it the how you mentioned and was blown away. Such a time saver!
This may be one of the best comments I've read all year and I'll definitely come back and let you know if I utilise it in the next couple of months as I'm thinking of going into the reclaim world
This is the best/easiest way if you won't be using the center beams, just the planks. But if you do want to use the center beams, you'll want to use a different method, else you'll have to be very careful with any cutting or planing of them. This guy has a good vid on easy ways to do it.
ua-cam.com/video/jOXvrHeSLzs/v-deo.html
@@denverflatpackjedithornton Also, there are the rare pallets with screws instead of nails, get yourself a cordless impact driver and a cordless reciprocating saw and you can blast those pallets apart in minutes, also in my experience comes in handy if you want to say reclaim wood from a furniture piece someone has thrown away you can just take the pieces you want (ie a dining tabletop can be a great source for fairly decent hardwoods)
what a cool channel, love the work you put into your many crafts!
Loved the video, the idea, the effort; but I recommend putting things together onsite (1. It will fit better on your car, 2. Better chances of not hitting the walls.) Keep up the the great work! I learned a lot from your video.
The table looks great! It is amazing how much great wood ends up in pallets.
Must say very impressed with the table from that pallet and the breakdown of cost, its impressive what people can make with some knowledge and the ability to sell/market stuff (I personally don't have any luck in that department, yet i know people that i could give a table etc too that ive had up for months and be gone in a week doing nothing different lol)
Also cost breakdown is where it can then get complicated because if your running it as a business there is other overheads you have to factor into the cost power, equipment, insurance etc and if its a hobby/side hustle ever country and state has different laws retaining to how much you can earn without paying tax on income and also the sale of goods.
Keep at it, you seem like a genuine person so good luck with your adventure :)
suddenly everyone convert from a house flipper to a carpenter.
It's great when you meet a customer who not only likes the work of wood but also appreciates the craftsman's work. And that makes it worth $1200 in their eyes.
Stopped mid viewing to say that I love the fact that you started using push sticks :)
Looking forward to see the end product :)
PS: Really love your channel, so glad I discovered it!
Good video. First few coats in gloss and the final coat(s) in satin are right on for almost all satin type finishes. I do this with my guitar finishes. Thanks for the video!
The way you explain this is great
a lot of people are talking about 1200 being too much for this desk and I do agree, but I also want to mention that this is in Canadian dollars, $1200 CAD = roughly $915 USD. just keep that in mind.
Edit: also the guy added the 200 extra, so the price morley listed is closer to $750 USD. which in my opinion is quite worth it for a custom desk.
yeah if the custom desk didnt look like fresh shit
Thank you so much for counting time spent! It's nice to look at a DIY and know how much time it will actually take, and whether it's worth actually making instead of buying something new.
I instantly thought he was gonna hit that wall before it happened just by how he was carrying the table recklessly 😆
Awesome, you made and sold STORY not a desk. I love it!
This is literally the definition of "one man's trash is another man's treasure."
I never process used wood until I check it with my metal detector. Bought one on line like the TSA use. More than paid for it self, by not junking bandsaw blades or planer blades. I found that pallet makers use wire collated nails and you can easily miss the wire stuck in the board.
My thoughts exactly
I really appreciate the sincere honesty throughout. It makes the video special. So many other channels chooses to not say or show, what you say and show, especially in regards to money and time used.
if you have a nail that breaks into the wood and you can't get it off, get a plug cutting bit and cut a plug where the nail is stuck, the nail will come off with the plug, then simply plug the hole back with a dowel from a scrap piece. also when you use pallet wood for projects, get yourself a pin pointing metal detector and scan your wood for Embedded nails before you cut them on a table saw, planer or jointer, trust me it is worth it.
Great job man. Thanks for sharing.
I think people like the fact your taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary! Nice work and hope you continue to have great success!

Coming from someone in the woodworking industry, I give you kudos for using something that you admittedly don't have much experience in and turning it not only into a profit for the table but also with your UA-cam fans. 12 hours for this size desk is Ludacris in reality, but doing it as a side hustle for yourself is definitely impressive.
don’t know if I’d use epoxy or dust/glue mix . Big time loss . Also as far as I’m concerned there’s no need for a planer in this case , or machine edge beveling . ‘’popping the grain” procedure made me laugh . Hey , but $1200 ? good for him
Shout out to Ludacris
Ludicrous. Cracks me up when people spell it Ludacris not knowing the artist probably played on the word
this is very interesting. not even something super complex can make a good profit if done right. all the best to you in the future!

Did anyone else grimace when he knocked the leg into the wall? I saw it coming too. :(
Other then that....seriously, seriously impressed!! I was not expecting that pallet wood to come out looking as good as it did. You did an outstanding job with the tools available to you. That tells me you don't need thousands and thousands of dollars to make a beautiful piece from free pallet wood. You earned a new subscriber. I look forward to more like this. Keep up the great work!
Next time put a blanket in your car to protect. Don't leave home without !
carrying it like a beta will do that
Me too!
I cringed when he A) Didn't finish sand it along the grain with a sanding block to remove the swirls that orbitals leave, B) When he smacked the packs of varnish mix on the sanded surface which would leave scratches, C) Smacked the finished table down on an solid table top that could have had something on it that would mar the finish.
I thought dude should have been helping him carry it; then boom leg hit and knocked off
Great video. Everything well explained and documented. Shows how pallet wood isn't really "free." Love how the slab turned out. Mahalo for sharing! : )
How does it show how pallete wood isn’t free? Cuz u have to clean it up?
@@matthewmawson3378 Yeah, quite a lot of time just disassembling it due to the nails, and if you don't have a planer refinishing it would take hours. With a planer it just takes minutes to get to the good wood.
Duuuuude!!! Been following the woodworking community for ages. I have a woodworking business myself. Most channels follow the same boring progression: “I have three tools and you can do this if I can do it” --> “Here’s some builds that sell” -> “Wow guys amazing that you like my stuff” -> “I quit…my job ha ha gotcha” -> “so I have this free CNC machine” …then they just become what they always were and no one can relate. But this is a breath of fresh air! Keep doing you brother.
Cool video! I didn’t realize pallets could have hard wood- nice to know! :) Your pallet build turned out great! :)
You did a great job! I loved seeing the cheaper tools being used to create a really great product. Everyone has to start somewhere and it can be daunting if someone uses $10,000 of tools every time they make a video.
I work in a receiving department and I am always moving pallets around. This is so cool watching you recycle and repurpose pallets that would have otherwise been forgotten or used up til it was thrown away.
why would you throw away wood if you can use it for heating?

This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
The smell of cigarettes reminds me of my pal
A perfectionist with his furniture..and the finished product was stupendous!!..
A perfectionist would not have filled that large a gap in the glue line with sawdust and glue. A perfectionist would have recut that glue line to remove the gap and glued it back up again. Sawdust and glue absorb the finish at different rates than the surrounding wood making it obvious.
I have to say, you did a great job on this. The amount of work & construction design is worth every penny. I’ve seen particle board furniture sell for more. This being all solid wood and labor combined, worth it.
Just a note that if you use pallet wood, as I do allot, be aware that there are tiny pieces of wire remaining in the nail holes. These pieces of wire connect the nails together to feed the nails through the nail gun that assembles the pallets. These remaining wires will nick and damage the planer blades. I drill out all of my nail holes before I send them through my planers. Blades are not cheap when you damage them frequently. It will also leave raised lines in the planed wood, which of course can be sanded out. Nice table top BTW!
And the chemicals they put on the wood for the pallets...
Oh boy, I didn't even think of that. In the end, it's got to be a false economy to work with pallet wood. I've made pallet furniture out of them, but didn't need to take much apart, and the wood was just so dreadful.
